The Publisher Sarah Lyons Glabman
These articles! This process! The entire magazine just makes me so happy. I’m back to writing my letter from the publisher at the very end of the ‘putting-themagazine-together’ phase. Don’t you love how our super designer Raj puts it all together for US? I do! And I truly can’t believe that this is our 16th issue! Did you know that by the end of this year, we will have created 18 amazing issues of BodyScape Magazine?! 18! That’s a huge number for BodyScape just being born in 2018! I’m proud of us. All of us. I’m extra super proud of our beautiful cover model Ekaterina too! (I call her ‘Ekat’ for short, because Ekaterina has a lot of syllables) Ekat has shown (and proven) that she lives by a no excuses policy that we can all learn from. Her amazing life experiences, good, bad, happy and sad, have brought her to where is she is today…and, isn’t that God’s plan anyways? Ekat is a true role model for not only her peers, but also for her kids. And quite honestly, she is for me, too. When our celebrity profile writer Kerrie Lee Brown released her cover model feature on Ekat for me to review, I was smiling the entire time I was reading it. Why? You truly have to spend some time with Ekat to really ‘get it’, but I will tell you that she is one of the funniest people on the planet. She makes everyone around her smile, she is a master at her craft, and just brings all around joy to those that are blessed enough to encounter HER. As you’ll read in her article, I began photographing her six years ago. Even from our first shoot, she was this same exact way. In my eyes, as close to perfect as a model can be. I’m so grateful to Ekat for making the LONG 18 hour journey from her home country of Georgia to come visit with me (AND the entire Epic Destination Shoot team) in Miami this past spring. What a great way to wind down the biggest photo shoot of 2021. And it’s my pleasure to introduce her to the entire world on this gorgeous cover! Jessica Rifkin has just come on board as one of our brilliant contributing writers. As I was reviewing her article I could feel where she was in her heart. Although I do not have human kids of my own, I know Jessica well, and I can sense this maturity in her that could ONLY come from her life’s experiences. I’m honored to have you on board Jess, and I look forward to so many future articles form you for BodyScape Magazine! Our team wouldn’t be what it is without our readers. So, if you know anyone that might be interested in submitting an article or two for BodyScape, let me know! You can always read an issue for free on BodyScapeMag.com, but even better, you can see all of this gorgeous work that Raj puts together for us in print! So order a hard copy magazine and feel what it is we are putting out there to you. Keep your eyes open in the beginning of 2022 also! I will be launching a brand new publication! I won’t leak all the details now, but I will reveal all in the October 2021 issue! Next up…is Epic Sedona! You can join Monica and I on one of our Epic Destination Shoots by visiting EpicDestinationShoot.com We hope to see you in front of my lenses soon!

As the summer is starting to fade here in Texas, this beautiful cover and feature story of Ekaterina drops in my email, surprising me, because normally Sarah shares her initial ideas for covers with me ahead of time. However, this time it was a complete surprise for me, even down to which look Sarah felt represented Ekat best for cover. Without a doubt I am in awe of our gorgeous, talented, ‘Ekat’, and of course not to mention the colors and layout of this cover is just stunning! It’s a perfect way to bring summer 2021 to a close and move into the fall. Earlier this year, as the last shoot during the Epic Miami location emerged, Sarah asked me to head downstairs and welcome Ekat with her, as she just arrived at our hotel. I’d never met Ekat beforehand, and Sarah was excited to see her friend again. This would be the first chance I had to spend time with her and get to know her better since she has worked with Sarah for many years. As we stepped out of the elevator we were greeted by a beautiful, vivacious human! Ekat was all hugs and smiles, this was her shoot time, and she was full of energy- READY! We got her settled upstairs, and our celebrity glam artist Lisa Opie started her work. It wasn’t long and Ekat was ready to TANGO with Sarah’s lens and I stepped into my position to provide personal posing coaching – but she honestly did not need me so much. She is already a master at movement and when you read her heartfelt feature included in this issue, you will learn why she is extremely capable of creating perfect poses for Sarah to capture. I greatly enjoyed working alongside Sarah with this soulful woman, and as I read her story and reviewed all the gorgeous images, the time we spent together in Miami came back to life. It was our last shoot during this Epic Miami shoot, and it was a perfect way to end the very full days we worked. Ekat is warm, tender, and strong. Her smile lights up the room and her energy is contagious. We accomplished so many looks with her because she is fast and efficient in front of the camera. We were all on the same page too, enjoying our time together. At the end of the shoot, we were able to capture a few minutes together just resting together and sharing some heartfelt words of encouragement. What a perfect way to end a perfect day together. As I finished reading Ekat’s tremendous life story, this special message for me and Sarah was at the end, and it just warmed my heart so much. I love you too, beautiful Ekaterina! I cannot wait to see you again next time God allows our paths to cross in person. Thank you for all you shared with our readers, and may God bless all you are doing both here in the USA and in your country, Georgia! EM: “I really want to say a big THANK YOU to my outstanding photographer and most importantly, my friend Sarah Lyons Glabman. I just love her work so much—and adore her! I also want to thank Monica Brant for helping me with posing, outfits, and pretty much everything else at the shoot. She transmits such a warm and loving feeling to everyone on set—and my heart is full when I am around her. Thank you, Monica. I love you.”
As always, Stay Fit, Love Life and God Bless you! Monica Brant

Kerrie’s Corner ~ Wellness inside and out.
HOW TO BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND By Kerrie Lee Brown BodyScape Magazine Celebrity Profile Writer Most entrepreneurs struggle while trying to figure out how to build a brand. Even the most accomplished boss-babes find themselves in a conundrum when their clients aren’t knocking on their door—especially amid the pandemic when a lot of small businesses couldn’t survive without in-person interactions. But, I’m here to say that you CAN brand yourself successfully, no matter what. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an aspiring model, life coach, personal trainer, writer, make-up artist, nutritionist, or healer looking for clients—you’re not going to further your career in this competitive landscape if you don’t promote yourself or your endeavors online. Over the years, many aspiring business owners have asked me how to stay ‘top of mind’ when everyone is selling the same services. After all, everyone with a computer is an “expert” these days—claiming their professional writer, author, designer, or social media manager status. In fact, as you read this, your competition is tweeting, posting, blogging, and uploading stuff you already know right now! So, what are you waiting for? When I was the editor of Oxygen Women’s Fitness magazine, I worked with a lot of models who wanted to get published. But since then, the world has changed. I too find it difficult to keep up sometimes, but it’s crucial to stay curious about how you can further your knowledge in order to become the best at what you do. Here are a few tips to help you get started.
1. GET EXPOSURE The more you pop up on Google searches and social networking sites—the more your name will get traction in people’s feeds—and the more memorable you’ll remain. In fact, I just spoke to a colleague in the mainstream modeling world, who now urges potential clients to check out his talent’s profiles and pictures online instead of waiting to see traditional composite (comp) cards at auditions. The same goes for creative agencies that hire designers, writers, web developers, content specialists, production, art directors etc. They all insist on seeing online portfolios and landing pages before they even consider you.
2. BE VISIBLE If you don’t have clear and consistent personal branding in place including a recognizable website, blog, and social media feed, you may also be overlooked. If you aren’t a creative person and don’t know the first thing about design or creating a brand that best represents you, hire a professional web designer. If you can’t afford one; offer to trade for services. It’s important to create and promote a look and feel that resonates with your clients and will keep them coming back.
3. STAY ACTIVE Don’t be shy! Social media hotspots such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest, among others, are important tools for marketing your product or services. If you’re not on at least two or three of these sites, you’re going to be out of luck. Of course, word of mouth still works in some industries; however if you want to expand your clientele and make more money—you need to be “out there” posting informative, inspirational, and/or amazing portfolio pieces at least once a day.
16
Tip: Praise from clients is also crucial. Always ask for a testimonial or review for your product or service with each new happy client. Also, make sure your official bio is up-to-date on your website and offer a “media bio” if necessary in your industry. If your business changes focus or you implement a new direction—make sure you tell your clients and fan base online.
4. FIND A MENTOR Like anything, allowing yourself to become vulnerable in your personal or professional life can actually improve your situation. It may seem like taking two steps forward, and three back, but it is monumental in the bigger picture. I often reminisce about my own business journey and all of the ups and downs—even a move to a new country—and sometimes feel overwhelmed. Especially when I decided to branch out and officially develop my own publishing and consulting business after freelancing for years! When I started my RedLily® lifestyle brand, I had no team, no consultants, and no one to lean on at 2 a.m. when I was confused about how to do something on the back-end of my website (yes I still do all my website updates myself). I also decided to self-publish my book with no agent and no manager—and I’ve gotten all my press to date myself. But it’s tough. I still worry every day that my lucky streak will run out or there’s someone else out there who will come along and take my clients or potential clients. But don’t fret, these thoughts are very normal. Remember, it’s smart to know how to manage these aspects of your own business from day one. Don’t just delegate, because this is your brand and your passion, so you should be in control. Find a mentor or someone you look up to in your area of expertise who works in the industry you are hoping to break into. Most people will be open-minded to share their experience. And if they’re not, do you really want to be like them? A good mentor will be there for you through the trials and tribulations and hopefully long after you’ve made your first million bucks. I hope this motivates you to stay on top of your business goals and go after your dreams. If you have any questions about how I can mentor you in these or any other area, such as in the area of writing, editorial consulting, book editing, or personal branding, contact me at info@kerrieleebrown.com. **Note: Watch out for my next column in BodyScape Magazine where I talk about the importance of AMAZING PHOTOS for personal branding. Hint, hint… THIS MAGAZINE is the best place to start! Until next time,

Ladies, If This Is You, You’re Not Alone By BodyScape Magazine Contributing Writer
Jessica Rifkin

Let’s start from the beginning. What is autonomy, independence, and who are we? I, like many women found the answer to all the above throughout my life participating in athletics, and through fitness and wellness. Being an athlete was who I was, and how I gained my independence, Written BodyScape and I had by autonomy in knowing Magazine that I was playing for myself and for my reasons. Cover Hair & Makeup Artist - Allison
makeupaz.com When the time came for athletics to end, I was looking for the next best thing. I was looking for a sense of community, belonging, a competitive element, and most importantly, I was looking for my identity outside of sports. Enter fitness and fitness competitions. Day in and day out, I prepared my meals, completed my workouts, and I felt great about the path I was on. The morning workouts and daily cardio sessions became so routine that I could complete all things fitness and diet related with my eyes closed, no problem. The gym was my happy place. During my several-year-stint of competing, doing photoshoots, eating on time, working out, and sleeping, my husband and I got married. Everything seemed to be going exactly how I had envisioned and wanted. Never had I dreamed that I couldn’t do it all. Then came the life changing news we had been hoping to hear- we were going to have a baby! At age 32, I gave birth to our first son. My body, mind, and hormones had just gone through what felt like the longest journey I had ever been on. My son was finally here, I could now begin what I had spent the last nine months preparing for, I could finally have the honor of calling myself a mother! After all, I’d heard nothing but glorification of the newborn baby smell, cuddly kisses, bonding while breast feeding, and every other beautiful moment you will experience with your little one. But what about the spit up, the blowout diapers, the pumping on one side, while feeding on the other? What about your baby’s inability to sleep unless you are holding them? All the stuff no one tells you, that was the biggest shock for me.
In those moments, the biggest question I kept asking and thinking about over and over was, “how do I get my body back after baby”? As someone who never thought she had an issue with balance or juggling more than one thing, I was about to embark on a whole new journey that didn’t come with an instruction manual! The journey of motherhood, fitness, and holding onto my identity. Pynn Could I have a family and keep up the status quo? After the sleepless nights started to subside, the cracked nipples from breastfeeding were finally healing, the six week ‘no-exercise policy’ was coming to an end, and the pain from the c-section became less and less intense, I decided it was time to contact my current fitness coach and discuss losing the baby weight. I kept very active during my pregnancy and I was very proud of the progress I had made during pregnancy, but my mind was made up. I was ready to get rid of any sign that I had just carried a baby. Logic would strike some to ask a series of questions. Questions like, was my body ready to train four to five days a week with cardio, eating right, and weekly checking in again? My body told me to wait, rest, and take my time. However, my mind and old habits convinced me that no matter what my body said, I was doing this my way! A way that led to almost daily reservations at the gym’s childcare center for my son, and plans that this process would be a quick and easy one- no doubt.
33
I recall asking friends and family who had been where I had, and what their take on getting back to “normal” was. The responses I received were, “you’ll bounce back no problem”, and “you’ll be exactly where you were before baby”! All of those affirmations, guarantees, and words of encouragement I had been secretly dying to hear. At about four or five months postpartum I was contacted to do a photo shoot, and this was the push or motivation that I needed to really achieve my goal. What other reason to be in the best shape than for a photoshoot? Months and months at the gym, caring for my son, eating right, and mixing in a little quality time with my husband, that seemed to be the order. Then came the mom guilt! Am I being selfish, am I neglecting my new responsibility as a mother, am I rushing this whole process? Am I this, am I that?? I went back and forth with the the photoshoot quickly approaching, and it didn’t matter how I felt. I made a commitment, and there was no way I wasn’t showing up for this shoot. The shoot day finally came. I looked exactly how I thought I needed to look and feel, until the proofs came. I remember being mortified. I sat at my computer looking, staring, and worst of all, crying! How could I think I looked so great, but really, I didn’t? Why did I have cellulite, why didn’t I have
the best package possible for this shoot? Why can’t I look like I did before baby? Why, why, why? At this point, I was 7 months postpartum, which is not long after having a baby at all. Where was my grace for myself, where was the empathy, where was the logic that my body just did an amazing thing? No positive affirmations could be found and after I stopped crying, I emailed the photographer, and we picked the pictures that would be published. I vowed right then and there that I’d push harder to get in shape and keep myself that way, period! The feature was published a few weeks later and of course it was stunning! I couldn’t have been happier with how everything turned out, and all the stress I had been feeling was gone. However, that feeling of it not being enough kept tugging at my soul. The innate desire of wanting to achieve ‘my definition’ of what perfection was, kept my mind occupied, almost as an obsession. I went to the gym, I took my son on long walks, and I gave myself no room for error. After all, this was the approach I needed to take if I wanted to achieve my goals, correct? 2017 saw the birth of my son, and before I knew it, it was 2019 and My husband and I celebrated our son’s second birthday. One month later I found out I was pregnant with our second son, Due in December!
34
I felt very reluctant to go through a pregnancy once again, along with tremendous guilt. Guilt of not feeling in shape, guilt of not wanting another baby, and guilt of the unknown. After many long conversations and a lot of undying support from my husband, I told myself I CAN do this. It was just one more step in the plan, and I could always come back from this pregnancy just like I did with the first one. Bring it on second pregnancy! Have any of you ever felt that the moment you are making great strides, or feel like you have life by the horns, the universe sends a big middle finger to you and says “wait-not so fast!”? The universe was speaking, and I was not listening. My second pregnancy was nothing like I imagined. I had the worst morning sickness, exhaustion, I was trying to keep up with a two-year-old, you name it, it happened. I remember several days of only being able to stomach donuts and red jolly ranchers. {Don’t ask me why red, but that is what the baby wanted, as they say}. Nine months came and went, and we welcomed our second sweet baby boy. We made the decision, or I made the decision that we were done. Two is good, and now I can FINALLY get myself back in shape. Maybe I’ll start researching that mommy makeover I’ve talked about, and maybe I can finally be myself again. Seems to be the go-to trend and mindset. Again, the universe threw me another middle finger and reminded me that I was not in control. Our new little bundle of joy was less than joyous and had a few ailments that were more than stressful. He had reflux, bronchiolitis, low oxygen, and nonstop fussiness. And to add insult to injury, Covid-19 was the ultimate derailment to my grand plan. I was angry, sad, exhausted and I just wanted some “me” time. After sitting and reflecting on the last few months and all I had embarked on, I was starting feel that maybe this wasn’t a derailment, but maybe this was the redirection I absolutely needed.
During the Covid crisis, my mental health as a postpartum mother began to suffer. I experienced a slight case of postpartum depression, and I was forced to look in the mirror and reflect on what was driving this shift in my happiness. What was missing? Here comes that word again, BALANCE. As time went on, I found myself coming back to the beginning. Back to who I was and I asking myself why? Why was I so married to the idea that I HAD to be one way? Why couldn’t I evolve? After all, I was not in the same space as I was before kids, or even in the same space I was in my 20’s. Life was changing all around me and I just chose to see it through the lens that fit my narrative. The narrative of what I thought would make me happy. I’ve known all along that my family is the best thing
35
to happen to me and I’d like to believe I have given them the focus and love they deserved, with a few sides of self-guilt every now and again. Honestly, who doesn’t feel guilty? I believe that even the best of us feels guilty, it is just part of being a parent. In my reflection, I came to the realization that, to be happy, I needed to have fitness and wellness as my center piece, and there wasn’t much room for more. But isn’t it possible to have room in your center for just a little bit of everything, a little bit of balance? Fast forward to current day, my boys are four and almost two and they make my heart explode. I couldn’t imagine life without them! As I sit here on my front porch, I reflect on the evolution of my center. I reflect on my fitness and wellness journey, and here are some of the methods I use to incorporate daily balance. 1. I see fitness as a tool! A healthy tool that makes me feel great. I no longer exercise to out train a bad diet, or as punishment for the bad meal I ate. Some weeks I work out five days a week, some days it’s only two. Whatever the amount, exercise is my medicine. 2. Good, whole, organic food is my fuel. You wouldn’t run a car without gas, so why would you attempt to neglect your body of amazing nutrients? Healthy food was one of my constants during my postpartum depression. I eat four to five times a day and I am very mindful of what I am eating. 3. I am consistently incorporating my children in my daily activity. From walks, to running around at the park, and yoga, I always keep in mind that children mirror what they see and I want my children to be proud of me. In addition to my children, I plan an hour, four to five days a week for my own personal exercise time. It helps me keep my sanity. 4. I don’t miss out on family dinner, BBQ’s, dinner with friends, or running through the slip and slide with my boys. There are so many beautiful memories to be made, I don’t want to look back on my life and wish I had been more present.
5. I offer myself grace, empathy and understanding. Get rid of the mom guilt and realize that self care will make you a better mom, partner, and person in the long run. There is no such thing as perfect, and we will spend forever trying to achieve the impossible! 6. Finally, daily words of affirmation. I tell myself two to three positive things about myself. Positive affirmation starts within, you cannot look to anyone else to fill that void.
36
I can proudly say I no longer wish for life to be how it once was, as I no longer wish to be who I once was. I have evolved, and my life has changed for the better. I have created space for living, loving, and growing. I have realized that yes, you can have a family and still be successful in fitness, as a fitness model or an influencer. You can be successful in every aspect you choose to direct your focus. I have created space for balance, and more importantly, I have started to reassume my identity. The identity of a happy, healthy, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, partner, and everything in between. I can make room for all the above without forgetting about who I am and without feeling guilty for taking care of myself. As mothers and as women, we tend to forget our needs and feel guilty for wanting to work on ourselves. As a result, we put our all into our family and our kids, not preparing for the identity crisis that inevitably awaits on the other side. But, what if we could have it all? And here’s a crazy thought, what if we could be the best versions of ourselves if we just had a little BALANCE. @Jessicaraerifkin

Ekaterina Meishvili BodyScape Magazine Cover Model Feature
A MAGNIFICENT
MUSE
This is not a story about sorrow. This is a profile about strength, vitality, and resilience. By BodyScape Magazine Celebrity Profile Writer
Kerrie Lee Brown When you think of everything that women go through in a lifetime, we seldom envision the physical heartbreak and incredible courage it takes to move passed trauma. After all, who wants to dwell on negativity? We certainly don’t. It’s no secret that during the trying times, we set our own needs aside, so the world doesn’t have to see us cry. In this regard, women are brilliant and incredibly strong in every situation even, the incredibly tragic. We manage to cover up the sadness and showcase a brave face so that the rest of the world believes we have it all together. As a result, women become even more resilient and beautiful. This is one of the main reasons why BodyScape Magazine is the perfect publication to highlight profound and moving stories from women who have overcome struggle and blossomed in the aftermath.
41
INTRODUCING OUR COVER MODEL As a loving mom, wife, and global fitness inspiration, Ekaterina Meishvili has shown nothing but strength and grace after her beloved husband Brian passed away three years ago. During our heartfelt interview—which we conducted over video because of a ten-hour time difference—this issue’s cover model shares her inspirational story of how she is eloquently dealing with grief in her own way. Despite some unfortunate naysayers who will never understand where her inner strength comes from, Ekaterina has recently become a muse to many women going through their own trauma around the world. Ekaterina is absolutely stunning on the outside, but once you get to know her and hear her charming Georgian accent, you realize that she is extraordinary on the inside as well. With a heart of gold and a natural inclination to stay positive despite the odds, this striking blonde bombshell has undoubtedly risen from the ashes like a phoenix with a newfound passion and drive to help others along the way. Definition: “Rising from the ashes” To emerge as new from something that has been destroyed. This expression alludes to the legendary phoenix, a bird that supposedly rose from the ashes of its funeral pyre with renewed youth.
This BodyScape Magazine photoshoot, and all of the others that I was a part of, have meant so much to me. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to grace a spectacular cover!

MOVING MOUNTAINS Today, Ekaterina is passionate about helping others in the fitness industry in her home country of Georgia, where she is currently spending time in Tbilisi building her business and leaning on the support of her family. However, she plans to move back to California once she establishes her fitness business and charity overseas.
WORLDWIDE FITNESS LEADER Ekaterina Meishvili is a pillar of strength for all of those around her—whether she’s at home in her country of Georgia, where she’s making an impact in the fitness landscape, or supporting her personal training clients in California who have also been there for her since day one. Ekaterina was planning on returning to the United States after a couple of months in Georgia but then the pandemic struck. So, she has decided to stay for a year to help the fitness industry in a country where fitness is not as established as in America. “I want to pursue an international fitness certification program.” As an elite personal trainer at Equinox, you get to meet a lot of different people. Ekaterina’s clients have become her extended family—and she wants to do everything she can to remain an important part of their lives.

47
FEELING CONNECTED HUMBLE BEGINNINGS Ekaterina loves being with her family in Georgia, especially her mom and brother. “If I’m not feeling well and need them to help with the twins, they do so, no questions asked. I am very fortunate because they are my heart and will always have my back.” She is a single mom of ten year-old twins Niko and Bella, a boy and a girl.
With no money growing up, Ekaterina has had to work her whole life to get to where she is today. That’s why providing a safe and happy life for her kids is her priority. “If I can show my kids that there is goodness out there in people, I will. It’s my goal to set an example for them so they look at what I’ve overcome and will do the same one day.”
However, she wasn’t so lucky in California. After her husband passed, Ekaterina soon realized who her true friends were. “Some people doubted me and some just left,” she says. “But my [personal training] clients never swayed from their friendship with me during the difficult times. It’s tough when people judge you, and they don’t even know what you’re going through.”
Now, she is an elite personal trainer who is making waves in the international fitness world. “I spent 24 years in Georgia [growing up] and then moved to the U.S. when I was 24 years old; and was there for 20 years so it feels like I’m half Georgian and half American. I love both places equally.”
But that hasn’t stopped her. As a five-time national rhythmic gymnast champion and former fitness competitor, who has participated in numerous photo shoots over the years, she knows what needs to be done. “I have goals. High goals. I want to help promote fitness and athletics wherever I can, as well as encourage children to be active who aren’t aware of the benefits of health and wellness. It’s a process that I’m willing to take step by step.” Everything she has wanted to achieve she has. Fitness will always be with me in some form or another,” she says. “It’s who I am.” Ekaterina also has a daughter who lives in Spain who is a professional tennis player. So, the apple definitely doesn’t fall far from the tree.
If I can get others to say that ‘because of her I didn’t give up myself’ then it’s all been worth it. I just have to believe in positivity and goodness in others.

HER NEXT STEPS This is not the first time our cover model has been photographed by BodyScape Magazine publisher and lens master Sarah Lyons. “I have shot with Sarah four or five times. It’s amazing. You don’t feel like you’re in front of a camera or on a stage—you just feel like you’re with your best friend. We have a special relationship and I just adore her. She is like a sister to me, and I will be forever grateful for our special bond both personally and professionally.” At the end of the day, this brave and beautiful woman says she is grateful ‘shit happens’. “I feel like I am the luckiest woman alive. I get to meet amazing people and do what I love. I get to inspire and be with my children. And, most of all, I get to dance.” **Now that you’ve heard a little bit about this amazing woman and cover model. Here are some more insights on what she’s been through and how she continues to inspire others…

Q&A On the record with Ekaterina: KB: What makes you get up in the morning? EM: “Hope! I get up in the morning because I hope that every day I get up and take a breath, and that means God gave me another chance to be better. And most importantly, I hope that in some small way, I can touch someone’s life and hopefully change it for the better. I also want to be someone’s hope in life when they read my story— someone who may have gone through something similar to what I went through. Someone who has gone through tragedy and overcome obstacles. I want them to see me getting up every morning, and I keep going no matter what.”
KB: What inspires you the most? EM: “Dancing inspires me, Creating something special inspires me, helping people inspires me. People who create something meaningful inspires me. And people who have gone through major pain and suffering and make something very beautiful out of their life lessons inspires me. My kids inspire me.”
I believe no matter what you go through in life, you should never become bitter. Learn from your experiences and become kinder.

KB: What are some of the obstacles you’ve had to overcome or are still working through? EM: “Omg, I don’t know where to start. My first biggest obstacle was leaving my country and my family behind in search of a better, happier future for myself and my family. I moved to America from [the country] Georgia twenty years ago; and worked in any job I could to support my family back home. I started with nothing. $100 dollars in my pocket- that’s it, and a suitcase. And today, I have a life that many people dream of. I think I’m here because I never gave up and I had my family by my side.”
KB: What else has had a huge impact on your life? EM: “The second biggest obstacle for me was my husband’s death three years ago. He was the love of my life—I never, ever loved anyone like I loved him. He was my heart and my soul, literally. We spent twelve beautiful years together, and we have two beautiful kids... they are the proof of our love. He was the most amazing, kind, and loving man in the world. I could never imagine taking one single breath without him.”
Publisher and photographer of BodyScape Magazine, Sarah Lyons Glabman makes you feel so confident in front of the camera- even if you’re not. I can’t explain with words, but you just have to get in front of her camera, and you will know instantly what I am talking about.

KB: I’m so sorry to hear this. How KB: It sounds like you may have are you coping? found out who your real friends are. EM: “In one split second my life changed completely. My rock, my soulmate was gone, and I had to bear all the pain on my own. I remember the days I was afraid to open my eyes and face reality that he was really gone—and that my life had changed forever. I couldn’t believe it was really happening, but it did. And I had to keep going without him, on my own again. It was the most excruciating pain I had ever felt, and I felt sick for my children who lost their father.”
EM: “Yes, because of all that suffering, I realized who my real friends are. Even strangers who understood my pain and always stood by me. They are my true angels. All of my [personal training] clients and some new people who barely knew me stood by me and backed me up like best friends are supposed to do.”
KB: What is one overarching KB: I’m sure you have the best message that has stood out to memories. you? EM: “Yes, definitely. Not many can say that they had or will ever have the love story that I had with Brian. If I knew he would leave me so fast, and I had to go through this pain again, I would do it a million times more without hesitation.”
EM: “You never know what’s going to happen in our journey called life. So, don’t judge others, ever. It’s a very dangerous road to take and could eventually return to you in some way. I do believe in what goes around comes around, but I always try and stay positive—even about those who have hurt us.”
KB: What have you learned from your experience? KB: What made you decide to EM: “I want to tell people who read this that I learned shoot for BodyScape Magazine? a lot from this tragedy. I learned a lot about me, about life, about pain, and about making mistakes. But no matter what, I learned that you still have to be kind and stay open hearted in the worst times. I learned not to lose hope and not to become bitter for what happened because even though many of my good friends left me in my time of need—and bad mouthed me and betrayed me—I still believe people are inherently good.”
EM: “This particular photo shoot is not my first time shooting with the amazingly talented Sarah Lyons Glabman. I was in issue #3 and issue #6 as well. But how I got lucky enough to make the cover this time around, I’m not really sure. I am really happy and excited that it has become a reality for me.”
KB: Is this cover feature a turning point for you in your life? EM: “Yes, it really is. I am so grateful. It represents how far I’ve come and where I want to go in the future.”

KB: How did you meet the KB: What are your plans to raise publisher of BodyScape money for the cause? Magazine Sarah Lyons Glabman? EM: “[The charity] will be called ‘Tango / Dance EM: “First of all, let me tell you how much of a beautiful soul she is. I met Sarah six years ago at the Miami Fitness Universe Competition, and that’s where she photographed me for the first time. I was amazed at how easy and comfortable it was working with her. She just makes you feel so free and beautiful on set and her way of pulling the best out of you is just something very magical,”
KB: What are you currently working on that you would like to share? EM: “I will be starting my business after visiting California again this fall. I am going to be opening up a personal training school overseas after I get my international certifications—so I can teach and coach upcoming trainers in my home country, Georgia. I really want to help them become knowledgeable trainers like we have in America; and I want to give them the opportunity to make a living, be healthy, and help their clients in an authentic way. Right now, the fitness industry and education for trainers is not very good here [in Georgia]. I would like to partake in this business and help them be great at what they do.”
Movement in Georgia’ for people in need. We will perform and even do dance lessons; and every donation that comes from the performances or events will go toward helping others. I will be doing this project with Iakof Shonsky from the Tango Academy of Georgia.”
KB: What is something you truly believe in? EM: “I truly believe that what you give is what you get back! I believe in God and that we are all destined to do great things in life. It’s just a matter of being kind at all times and if we are willing to search and work hard for our true calling. I believe that my calling is to help people. It’s just that simple.”
KB: What message do you want to tell other women reading this magazine? EM: “I want to tell other women: don’t be afraid. Don’t be afraid to show who you truly are. Some people will love you some will not, but at the end of the day, you have to believe in yourself and who you are. Because you are brave enough to say, ‘here I am, I am real, and I don’t pretend, so love me or leave me.’”
KB: I heard you also want to participate in charity work to help others. KB: What do you say to those who EM: “Yes, I really want to help children and those are scared to show their truth? in need here in Georgia—those without homes or safe places like churches to go to. So, I am also starting a non-profit which definitely could use some help to keep growing; especially for single moms like me.”
EM: “I say fear is the number one stopper for everything we want to accomplish in life. I want people to go for it no matter what! So, what if you fall a hundred times? You just have to get up and keep going!”
61
KB: Why is it important for women to be self-confident in life? EM: “I believe it’s important for women to be themselves their entire lives because expressing yourself gives you self-confidence. In other words, don’t listen to other people. Not seeing yourself through other people’s eyes and opinions also makes you a stronger person.”
KB: How do you push through when everything feels like it’s falling apart? EM: “To express yourself in any way means you believe in yourself regardless of what others may think of you; and that gives you self-confidence from within as well. There are days where I still struggle with self-confidence; and yet I’ve won a bunch of fitness competitions. What I mean by this is that it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve been through—everyone has a story to tell, and everyone has experienced hardships. I am one of those people. Nothing gave me more confidence than inner work and soul searching. Finding out who I am.”
KB: How do you do this? EM: “I ask myself: Why am I here? What is my purpose? And when you can get to the point where you can answer these questions then you will be unbeatable. You will know what you are here for and how great you truly are!”
Forget fear. I really mean it! Just imagine how proud you will be of yourself and your accomplishments when you reach everything you ever dreamed of. My advice is to go with that feeling rather than fear.”

KB: Is there anything else you’d KB: What did you think of the glam like to share with readers? for your shoot? EM: “I would like to add that this particular photoshoot for BodyScape Magazine was extra special because I was not only doing fitness modeling poses, but we did a Tango shoot as well. I love to dance, and we took beautiful photos with my dance partner and Maestro Iakof Shonsky. He is one of the best Tango dancers in the world.”
KB: Where can we find him? EM: “Professional dancer Iakof Shonsky runs a very successful Tango school in the country of Georgia and New York. He is the reason that I started dancing Tango and fell in love with movement. Tango is my therapy. It has definitely helped me overcome some huge things in my life when I needed it the most. I will forever be grateful for Iakof and his ability to make people feel good through what he does.”
KB: Is there anyone specific you’d like to thank? EM: “I really want to say a big THANK YOU to my outstanding photographer and most importantly, my friend Sarah Lyons Glabman. I just love her work so much—and adore her! I also want to thank Monica Brant for helping me with posing, outfits, and pretty much everything else at the shoot. She transmits such a warm and loving feeling to everyone on set—and my heart is full when I am around her. Thank you, Monica. I love you.”
EM: “Oh my gosh, I’d like to say thank you for my amazing makeup and hair by Lisa Opie. Without question she is the best makeup artist I have ever worked with. Her loving and fun personality on top of it was like a cherry on the cake.”
KB: What about your videos? You share a bunch of them on your social media channels and they really help with your branding. EM: “Absolutely! Lastly, but certainly not least, I want to thank Kona for the great videos he took of me on set and for always being so creative and fun!”
During my hard journey, so many of my [socalled] friends were judging me. It’s really eyeopening to find out who your good friends are when tragedy happens. I think judging other people is just wrong on so many levels. Only God can judge us.

Travel Healthy My Friends By BodyScape Magazine’s “Fitness Connection” Karen Mullarkey @Karenmullarkey I recently traveled to beautiful Telluride, Colorado with some AMAZING friends to get a break from the Arizona heat. We had the luxury of flying directly into “T-Ride”, so once we arrived we made a trip to the grocery store. Having a room with a kitchen is a great way to eat more healthy while on vacation. It is also a great way to save money so you are not eating out for each meal. (I have a tape worm and get hungry every 2-3 hours:), all of those meals and snacks really start to add up financially.
72
When we do go out to eat, I try and pick lighter dishes like fish and shellfish instead of heavy pasta and meat dishes. I also do my best to steer clear of ordering dessert after dinner. I would rather enjoy a glass of wine for my dessert. If I order alcohol, I try and stick with wine or vodka and soda water. Tequila and soda water is another smart choice. Be careful having alcohol at high altitude because hydration is key! Have one glass of water after one alcoholic beverage. Stay active on vacation! Yes, I do feel the need to relax and recharge, but I can only sit still for so long. We enjoyed a golf day and then followed it up with a lazy pool day. We rented mountain bikes for a day (what an adrenaline rush) and then took a short leisurely walk the next day. The last day we picked a beautiful trail to hike, ad if you’re in the Telluride area, I would highly recommend the Jud Wiebe Memorial Trail for some great cardio and gorgeous views. Enjoy your down time, but take the time to be active as well. A healthy lifestyle is all about balance and moderation. The reason I do my best to stay in shape and to make healthy food choices is so I can remain active on vacations and do the activities that I love to do. Visiting Colorado in the summer and winter allows me to keep moving while I also recharge and spend quality time with my family and friends. It’s trips like these that make the best memories.

Whole Body Wellness Part III By BodyScape Magazine contributing writer
Dr. Sean Drake athletechiropractic.com
Whether you are rising from the ashes, or balancing being a mom, there are a few things that everyone should do if they want to reach WHOLE Body Wellness. The word WELLNESS gets thrown around in so many circles today; from the next diet fad, super supplement, spiritual retreat, mindfulness, or that new workout. However, part of whole body wellness is being healthy enough to ask yourself some deep difficult questions and ask what you want instead of living in brain fog and fatigue wondering around throughout the day. Keeping our body optimal isn’t just about our muscles and joints or how you look physically. The key is brain health and mental clarity about who we are and where we are going. Being able to have the energy to go after the bigger picture; the things that scare us. This is what empowers WHOLE Body Wellness. It allows us to express the potential meant for us and more importantly for the world. The journey to go after WHOLE body wellness is below. I want you to set your timer to write and reflect for 20 minutes. Start with writing your NEEDS rather than your wants. There is a big difference here, because when we often see coaches or people talking about writing things down, they go to what they want. I want you to get clear on the necessities for your optimal life. What are your boundaries to make sure you can thrive? When you are finished I hope you see how much space and potential is there. I hope that clarity arrives and shows you beyond what was distracting you. The next part is one of the hardest and like the Phoenix rising from ashes this is where you are reborn. TRAUMA. Sometimes we need to look at our past to find the cycle blocking the future we need. Being vulnerable is POWERFUL. Go after your traumas; feel, work through them, heal them. Again, this opens you up for space. Next, serve others! Take a look at your life; what are you passionate about that you can step up and serve in? And please don’t think about a leadership position or promotion. Find something in that passion and give back. Start a project if it isn’t there and serve those whose lives you can change with your talents.
74
After serving others comes serving ourselves. One I often struggle with is LOVING myself. I just wasn’t shown that it is important. We can get so involved in life that we forget to give ourselves a pat on the back, a nod of approval. By taking time to love ourselves we open that space again. Lastly, I say, explore your dreams. Be a pioneer and risk the impossible, go after the rewards. You are truly only one decision from having space to have WHOLE Body wellness. Go on the trip, buy the dress, dance to your favorite music, love on your family, and go after that one thing that scares you! Wellness can only be felt here and now, in the present moment. When you can see your goals written, clear the trauma, serve above yourself, truly LOVE yourself, and trust that feeling to go after your dreams. THAT IS WHOLE BODY WELLNESS.
This month work on these 5 things. I am excited for the world for those of you who do. Whole Body Wellness W – Write down what you need; not what you want H – Heal from Trauma O – Offer Service to Others L – LOVE (Yourself) E – Explore your Dreams

ALOE VERA: Herbal Medicine Chest for Skin and Body Wellness By Karen Masterson Koch, CN President of Aloe Life
Herbal remedies really work! Traditionally, the most remarkable herbal plant of all time is Aloe Vera. It is great to apply to the skin and also to optimize health, when taken internally as an elixir. The ancients wrote about their use of the entire plant, including the whole leaf, inner gel and especially the yellow sap, without fear of harm. Aloe Vera was viewed as a “Gift from Nature” to use for any ailment, and for many it was taken daily with honey for regularity and as a preventative health measure (1).
How Does Aloe Vera Work? Its popularity is unmatched today. A variety of quality products in juice, tablets, spray or gel form support, first aid, troubled skin and is a great addition to any beauty or health protocol for better results*. Over 200 Scientific Research Papers Highlight: ● Anti-inflammatory action ● Anti-bacterial action ● Anti-viral action
The plant contains valuable food nutrients, plus over 100 active constituents called phytonutrients. Together, they topically soothe, balance skin pH (4.5 – 5.7) and stimulate new cell growth in record time. Hundreds of repeatable research papers confirm Aloe Vera’s many actions (2).
80
● Calming injured, red and inflamed skin is a critical first step with salicylic acid, campesterol, B-sitosterol and lupeol. Next, the growth factor gibberellin is allowed to signal the repair of collagen. ● Immunity is also heightened on the skin as well. Polysaccharides support UV protection to minimize sun damage while heightening infection fighting. ● Transport plant actives work as carriers both topically and internally to infuse oils, herbs and nutrients much deeper into the cells. Great support for the body; evening skin tones, softening damage and even resolving injured tissue faster – almost miracle-like at times (3)! ● Internally, Aloe Vera (not over-processed) is classified as an herbal bitter. Human studies have shown it to increase digestion, especially of proteins and absorption up to 300% of important vitamins including C, E and B12. It is best to take the juice or tablet form before meals (or anytime), to support daily digestion, energy, immunity, allergies, and soothe inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Research even supports collagen production for reducing allergies and youthful skin naturally (4).
Stronger Is Better! Most Aloe Vera products can soothe the skin a bit. However, to address deep itching, abrasions, burns, sunburns, scrapes, boils, ulcers, scars, broken skin, and severe acne, a stronger Aloe Vera product made from the whole leaf juice, a concentrated variety if possible, including its dark yellow sap works best. Stronger aloe is also more effective for support of chronic issues like diabetic ulcers, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, hemorrhoids, gums, mouth and scalp issues. Many people also find ingesting a quality Aloe Vera daily, plus applying one topically, to be a winning catalyst of support for healthy & vibrant skin, along with body wellness (5).

Getting Started With Aloe Vera Look for quality products like Aloe Life because there are hundreds on the market, all made differently. This is why I encourage consumers to read labels. Use your own plant or look for products that are not over processed, still containing the dark golden yellow color, and stating “No Water Added.” You will then experience what the ancients discovered from this medicinal plant for kids, adults and even pets - Herbs Really Work! *Caution: Apply a small amount on skin first or call companies for sensitive individuals.
