This booklet serves as a guide to all of the activities that will be taking place. Please make time to visit the Gym where clubs, organizations and sports teams are located. The Athletic Training Center offers strength conditioning for our student-athletes, a fitness center for all of our students and faculty, trainer’s room, lecture hall, nutrition bar, offices and locker rooms. This facility also boasts a fully-equipped reception center for use by the Bishop Gorman community. Tours of the ATC will be available from 2:30 – 3:00. Please meet in the Activity Foyer (between the gym and theatre).
Parents and students are invited to come and see the BGTV studio. Visitors will have the opportunity to see how our students gain hands-on experience in producing film and TV programs as producer, camera operator, director, lighting designer, editor, on-air talent and more.

The Learning Center offers services for students with a diagnosed mild learning difference due to a learning disability, ADHD, medical conditions, etc. A variety of assistance is available to help students experience success in a college-preparatory curriculum. Applications for the Learning Center will also be available.

See how traditional and digitized resources combine to provide students with a large and diverse local and virtual library collection, designed to enhance and enrich our students’ learning experiences and meet their curricular goals, while ensuring that they become informed digital citizens as they prepare for college. Visit the BGHS Library, part of the Information Media & Technology (IMET) Center, and see a friendly environment in which students can collaborate, research, learn and study. Redesigned and highly upgraded with 28 new computers in the summer of 2011, the IMET Center Library now houses 10 state-of-the-art HP TouchSmart 610 all-in-one desktop computers with nextgeneration touch applications; eight HP 3200 Elite desktop computers; and 10 HP ProBook laptop computers. With this updated computing hardware, our new web-based, Follett Destiny library catalog and advanced digital resources, our IMET Center Library provides our students with a complete 21st-century research and learning experience. In order to provide quality and varied materials for student information and research needs, the BGHS IMET Center Library houses print media in addition to affording access to a variety of electronic information media via subscriptions to five database services. Through these services, students have access to more than 35 databases through several highly-regarded secondary and college-level collections. Also, the library’s virtual collection consists of specialized reference resources for ondemand multidisciplinary research. Through all of these online resources, students have access to materials not available to them on the “open web” through search engines such as Google and Bing, as well as numerous web resources that have been evaluated for content appropriate to our students’ coursework. The Math Department will have a PowerPoint presentation outlining the math curriculum and describing the three levels of math: College Prep, Honors and Scholars/Advanced Placement. The presentation will include the projected math path for students, including how a student is placed in a math class initially, monitored throughout the year and progresses during their four years at Bishop Gorman.
The Math Honor Society will have videos and demonstrations highlighting projects that students have made to explain math concepts. Examples will include using volume formulas to predict the amount of candy in a jar.
Parents and students will have an opportunity to come and find out how the Math Department incorporates technology into their daily lessons. We will present the use of e-texts within our math curriculum.

Honors students will put together a skeleton from a pile of bones and they would appreciate your input in reconstructing the skeleton and naming all of the parts. Visitors will also have an opportunity to test their reflexes with the help of some of our students. Activities will take place every 30 minutes beginning at 1:15.
Students and parents will have the opportunity to explore how using technology can increase the analysis of lab experiments. Students in our AP Biology and Scholars Biology courses will demonstrate the use of the Lab Quest and the probes.
Chemistry Is All Around Us Paper Chromatography - Do you enjoy watching shows based on forensics? Do you wonder about the techniques that scientists use to separate and identify different molecules, such as DNA? Stop by room 316 to learn about paper chromatography. You will attempt to separate the different molecules found in markers and pens, and possibly create a work of art. Experiments will be conducted at 1:30, 2:00 and 2:30.
The Magic of Physics – Students and parents will have the opportunity to participate in several activities and then understand the physics behind them. Get a Charge - Come and find out about electric fields and charges. See what happens when we fire up the Van De Graaff generator and create an electric charge on a metal sphere and cause it to jump to another metal sphere. Experiments will be conducted at 1:30 and 2:30.
