Performing & Communicative Arts Are you interested in focusing on the performing and communicative arts? We offer courses in theatre, musical theatre, directing, technical theatre, vocal music, instrumental music, dance, speech and debate & broadcast media. Please see below for a schedule of performances by students participating in our Performing & Communicative Arts.

Marching Band Main Entrance Members of the Marching Band will be in uniform at the main entrance playing from their repertoire.

54 of our theatre students recently visited the Utah Shakespeare Festival and Tuacahn Amphitheater.

Speech & Debate Room 106 Students from our Speech and Debate Team will be presenting the following current tournament events: Impromptu Speaking, Original Oratory and Spontaneous Debate.

1:30 - 1:45 p.m. Theatre Gaels on Broadway Varsity & JV, Heart & Soul, and Directing Practicum, will present production numbers from their repertoire including Heart and Soul from Camp Rock 2; 96k from In the Heights; America from West Side Story with Worship Choir finale, America The Dream Goes On. 2:00 – 2:15 p.m.

Theatre Advanced Theatre 1, Advanced Theatre 2 & Theatre Practicum will present scenes from William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

2:40 – 2:50 p.m.

Theatre Gaels Theatre Guild presents their interactive mini musical revue, Aladdin.

Broadcast Media Black Box Theatre Visitors will have the opportunity to see how our students gain hands-on Broadcast Media experience producing all aspects of their own weekly television show, BGTV. Come and see where students learn to direct live multi-camera telecasts, as well as edit news packages and short films. 1:30, 2:00, 2:30 p.m.

String Orchestra Student Commons Visit with our Instrumental Music Director, Geoff Neuman, for information on our String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble & Tri-Music Honor Society.

INTERESTED IN WATCHING THE CREW OF GAELS THEATRE GUILD? Come to the Theatre in between scheduled performances and watch the technical transitions! Technical Theatre opportunities for students include design, management, lighting, video, audio, set, set decor, properties, painting, costumes, hair & makeup, house management, and production assistants.

Gaels Theatre Guild has been nationally recognized at the International Thespian Festival with National Championships in Acting, Musical Theatre and Technical Theatre as well as full length main stage productions of Godspell and Lost in Yonkers. Information regarding the International Thespian Academic Honor Society is available from Ms. Ferrante-Martin in the theatre.

Our Bi-annual art show will be set up in the Activity Foyer in between the Gym and the Theatre!

Whether you already love creating artwork or want to try something new, find out about our Visual Arts program. We offer Art 1(Intro to Art), Art 2(Drawing), Art Media 1 & 2, Advanced Ceramics, AP Art Studio: Drawing, AP Art Studio: 2D Design, AP Art Studio: 3D Design, Black & White Photo, Digital Photo, Computer Graphics, Computer Programming, Art Club, Ceramics Club, Jewelry Club, National Art Honor Society and Photography Club. Room 110 Students will be working on various projects during Open Studio. Visitors will be able to see the range of approaches, technical abilities, and artistic vision of our amazing visual art students! Members of National Art Honor Society and Art Club will be on hand to answer any questions about extra-curricular activities fueled by our creative energy.

Computer Graphics and Computer Programming Room 208 Students will be working on various Computer Graphics projects and coding for the Programming classes.

Black and White Photography Darkroom Visitors to the darkroom will have an opportunity to view student work, speak with students and instructors and learn about the photography program offered at Bishop Gorman.

Our Art and Science Departments recently participated in a

co-curricular field trip to Digital Photography Room 507 Digital Photo students will be working on current class projects, or their own self-driven photo Zion National Park projects. Students may currently be enrolled in Photo 2 (Introduction to Digital Photography), Photo 3 (Advanced Digital Photography), or a member of this year’s Photography Club. Please visit and enjoy the artwork we’re creating and see what photo processing techniques students are utilizing.

BGHS Information Media & Educational Technology (IMET) Library Center The Bishop Gorman IMET Library Center provides services and resources for our college-bound students.

Students have access to a broad and multi-faceted collection that includes some of the most reputable electronic databases and eReference libraries available, as well as numerous print and electronic fiction and high-interest nonfiction choices. Our Flipster digital magazines round out the collection.

While visiting, learn how our library staff teaches BGHS students proper source acknowledgment, and adherence to copyright and fair use policies in order to avoid plagiarism. Our librarian will be available to demonstrate and discuss various collections used by our faculty and students.

With media so readily available on the Internet, students often mistake ability to access such media for permission to use it.

Our summer Language Immersion program allows students to spend time experiencing the culture of Spain while earning academic credit

La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) and La Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society) offer tutoring to students in all levels of the languages.

Counseling Gym Our guidance counselors will be available to explain how they successfully guide BGHS students in finding their path. If you have questions regarding class placement, summer enrichment, testing or anything else pertaining to your child’s academic future, plan to stop by.

Our college counselor will also be available to answer questions regarding college planning as well as Naviance, a web-based program designed to help students navigate every aspect of the college admission process.

The Learning Center Room 301 This program offers services for students with diagnosed mild learning differences.

A variety of options for assistance is available to help students experience success in a college-preparatory curriculum. Stop by to meet the Learning Center staff.

Our full-time Wellness Counselor assists students with topics such as stress, balance, grief, family and other common issues that teenagers experience.

This fall, the former Associate Director of Admissions from Dartmouth College met with our junior and senior students to discuss the college application process and the college essay.
