The winter sports season came to a close at the Orleans Arena on Friday, March 1. The men’s basketball team won its 8th straight Men’s Basketball State Championship by beating rival, Clark High School, for the 4th time this season and the 11th time in 3 years. The Lady Gaels lost in the finals of the State Championship to Centennial, but battled until the end, taking home the State Runner-Up trophy as Nevada’s 2nd Best Team of 2019.
During the men’s season, the team: • Won the prestigious Tarkanian Classic Tournament for the 2nd year in a row • Were undefeated in the Desert Southwest League • Won the Desert Regional Tournament; the Las Vegas City Championship; and finally, the State Championship The team also gained national attention and is currently ranked in the Top 25 in the country in almost every poll including 17th by Max Preps. The Gaels were led all year by starters Zaon Collins '21, Noah Taitz '20, Will McClendon '21, Chance Michels '19, and Isaiah Cottrell '20. They also got big contributions in the playoffs from Mwani Wilkinson '20 and Max Allen '22.

GaelBots Go To State The Robotics Club recently finished the 2018-2019 VEX Robotics Competition season. In the VEX Robotics Competition, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. The BGHS Robotics Club members fielded two robots, competed in 6 tournaments (winning one Judge’s Award), and attended the Nevada State VRC High School Championship recently held at Coronado High School.
