Our mock trial team performed like no other “rookie” team in their first Invitational Tournament on September 29 and 30, 2018 at the Yale University campus in New Haven, CT. The tournament's case layout was the most difficult case our team has ever broken down and the students performed like seasoned veterans. They swept their opponents on day one. Going into day two they were tied for first with two other teams that had won the National Tournament last May. Our team ended up in sixth place, out of 23 state champions who had been invited. Ultimately, our Mock Trial team did so well that everyone was commenting about them. Brooke Powell '19 (pictured at right) came in first on all of the judges’ ballots and won BEST WITNESS!

For the past few years our Activities Director, Jimmy Gleich '01 has been spending his breaks in Africa working to better the lives of children. Jimmy has made several trips to Africa to countries like Ghana, South Africa, and Kenya. In fact, he helps run and fund two schools/orphanages in rural Ghana with his partners. College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program Congratulations to the seven seniors named National Hispanic Scholars by the College Board program. This academic honor does not carry a scholarship with it but it can be included on college applications and many colleges use this program to identify academically exceptional Hispanic/Latino students. The College Board reaches out to students who rank in the top 2.9% on the PSAT test and earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of their junior year. Way to go GAELS!
Aaron Araujo Achieving Gold at this NAC propelled Ethan to a National ranking of 8th Place for Cadets in the U.S. In addition, this has earned him a solid top spot on the U.S. Team to compete internationally in Europe—Austria in October, Germany in November, and Slovakia in January. ONE DROP'S Walk for Water Imagine waking up and turning on the faucet to no water. Now imagine that instead of going to work or school you will spend the day walking to the nearest source, a polluted stream six miles away. Whatever you carry back has to provide for yourself and your family. This is the reality of thousands of people around the world. This year several Bishop Gorman students participated in and supported the Walk For Water. This annual event benefits the ONE DROP Foundation. ONE DROP impacts communities around the world and also in Southern Nevada through various local partnerships such as Springs Preserve, DISCOVERY Children's Museum and WaterStart. Pictured at left are: future Gael, Lauren Edgeworth, Caroline Edgeworth '22, Rebecca Anderson '22, Julie Murray '78, Carolyn Goodman (City of Las Vegas Mayor), Pierre Morton '21, Jake Young '21, Ryan Wolfson '21, and future Gael, Petra Morton.

Athletic News Early Signing Day Go Gaels! Wednesday, November 14, 2018 2:00pm, Gym Look for several of our Bishop Gorman senior athletes to ink their scholarships. Last year, we had 35 athletes who signed athletic papers or scholarships to participate at the next level in College.
Our fall sports teams are currently finishing up league play and are participating in the Desert Region and State Tournaments. Our men’s and women’s tennis teams both had successful seasons and sent several players to the doubles and singles Region Tournament. Angelique Friedrich '19 was the runner up in the Desert Region and qualified for the State Singles Tournament in Reno. Oliver Filipovic '21 and Max Wolfson '20 won the Desert Region Tournament and also qualified for the State Tournament in Reno.
Our women’s golf team won their league, placed 2nd in the Desert Regionals, and qualified as a team for the State Tournament in Dayton, NV. In the two-day State Tournament, the team battled and finished in 3rd place overall. With a young team, the Lady Gaels should be ready to make another State Tournament run next year. Our cross country team has successfully run their way through meets in Nevada, California and Oregon this year. Check back for playoff updates and individual finishes next month as the team competes in the Desert Region and State Meets. The men’s and women’s soccer teams are both having a strong season. The men’s team is near the top of their league and is heading into the playoffs with some momentum. The women’s team is currently 20-0 and ranked in the top 10 in the country by USA Today. The Gaels are the favorite heading into the Desert Region Tournament. The women’s volleyball team (currently ranked #1 in Nevada by all polls, #52 in the U. S. by Prepvolleyball.com and #87 in the U.S. by MaxPreps.com) are at the top of their league standings, and has a lot of momentum going into the upcoming playoffs. After a strong performance in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, the Gaels have the experience and confidence to be in contention for a State Title again. Bishop Gorman Football is again ranked as the top team in Nevada. After a tough start to the season against National competition, the team has found their way in league games. The playoffs will begin in a few weeks and the Gaels look like the team to beat again in Nevada as they chase their 10th straight State Championship. Way to go Gaels!

In October over 50 Bishop Gorman students volunteered at the inaugural Special Olympics of Nevada Health Fair hosted by Bishop Gorman. Our students paired up with Special Olympic athletes for a day filled with athletics, health, camaraderie and lots of fun. Way to go Gaels!
The impact these projects have had in their communities sometimes mean the difference between life and death.” Jimmy explains. His goal is to eventually have Gorman students and faculty come with him on trips and see the impact that a little kindness can make halfway around the globe.
and communities around the world. His work in Ghana has even caught the eye of the Ghanaian government, Jimmy has been in the newspaper, interviewed on the radio and even invited to dinner with members of the Ghanaian Parliament. On a recent trip he was given the honor of being named a Tribal Chief in his home village of Bethel. The global mission has been definitely Jimmy’s focus. With each passing trip a new project happens.

Our students were able to attend workshops hosted by the Yale law students on Case Theory, Character Development, Cross Examination, Direct Examination, and Opening/ Closing arguments. All of our students spoke very highly of the workshops and they cannot wait to implement the content they learned into this Spring's Regional, State, and National competition. Go Gaels!
