Do You Need to Pay for Ads to Make Money on Facebook? Everyone’s got a Facebook page for their business, whether it’s a huge corporation or a small mom and pop shop, because it gives you exposure, traffic, and it’s a good way to engage new customers. Did you notice that I didn’t say it’s so great because it’s free? That’s because more and more online marketing professionals are encouraging people to buy into Facebook Ads, a far cry from what they were telling everyone a mere two or three years ago. The question is, what has changed about Facebook that the people who market online for a living are telling us to pay instead of just enjoying all the free marketing? The whole Facebook marketing scene changed when Facebook sent a message telling everyone “We expect organic distribution of an individual page’s posts to gradually decline over time.” A lot of people noticed that their Facebook business page traffic dropped to 20% - a very significant drop. This is terrible news for people who are managing fan pages and offering free information. Why would they pay for sharing information when they’re not even trying to sell anything? But for people who are managing business pages, there’s a silver lining that can still help them make money Facebook. Here’s the dark side – to effectively market on Facebook, you might have to take that huge step of paying for ads, just as many others have. The good news is that you don’t actually have to pay that much to get significant reach. Most businesses have chosen to only spend $1 a day for Facebook marketing, a budget that doesn’t exactly break the bank but is still effective in getting people’s attention. Facebook has the lowest average cost per 1 000 impressions (compared to other online marketing platforms and traditional marketing) at $0.25. With one dollar, you can get 4 000 impressions. That’s 4 000 ahead of your competition. Can you actually control your budget for ads on Facebook per day? Yes you can by adjusting the Ad Set Budget. According to Facebook, your ads will automatically stop showing once your ad set has been met for the day. Is it better than free? No, but it’s still manageable and it can work to your advantage. The idea behind paying for your ads is you have to be spending less than your revenue brought in by the ads to make money Facebook. If you’re spending $1 a day or $30 a month, it’s highly unlikely that you’re spending more than you’re making. And as most online marketers have pointed out, if you can’t afford $30 for online marketing, you probably shouldn’t have started a business in the first place. That being said, should you rely solely on Facebook for marketing your business online? Absolutely not. As an online marketer, you should always be building an email list which is the heart and soul of any real online marketing campaign. You also shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket. Explore your options because there are plenty out there and most won’t cost you a lot if they’re not free.
