Getting Started on Making Money Selling eBooks Did you know that a lot of people are making thousands of dollars by writing about what they love and selling them as eBooks online? These days, it’s not that hard to believe, considering that you, me, and everyone we know probably has at least one electronic book in a tablet or laptop or even a mobile phone. We have reached a time when eBooks are wildly outselling paperback copies which means that it’s also the perfect time for self-publishing. What all this means is that you can write a book, tweak it for the more popular eReader platforms, and sell it for as little as 99 cents – and actually make a good deal of cash out of it. A lot of people make money selling eBooks online and these books can be about anything that the writer is genuinely interested in writing about. Say you’re a gear head and you like cars; then you can write about maintaining a car and doing simple tasks like an oil change. Or you can write about how to take care of your dogs and train them to do simple tricks. If you love to travel, you can write about visiting Hong Kong and the best places to get real Chinese food. Just like selling any other product, all you need to do is pick a niche and target that particular audience. But selling an eBook online doesn’t stop at actually writing the book. To make money selling eBooks, you’ll also have to write an interesting description and have a catchy cover image to grab your potential readers’ attention. And when it comes to actually selling the book, websites like Ebay and Amazon are your friends. You can also sell your book on Lulu, Pay dot com, and Smashwords. But even with these already existing websites, I would still strongly suggest that you put up your own website with your own host and domain and sell your eBooks there. And yes, I would also suggest that you write and sell more than one eBook because when you produce more eBooks, they will help give you exposure. When it comes to pricing your eBooks, it gets a bit tricky. A lot of eBooks out there are being sold for 99 cents. It might not seem like much but think of selling your book to a thousand people and suddenly the profit margin is substantial; but that doesn’t mean you should stick to the same price too. Your considerations should include the royalty that you will be paid which changes with the price. Amazon usually pays a royalty of 35% for books priced between $0.99 and $2.99 and pays 70% in royalties for books priced between $2.99 and $9.99. Some writers base their prices on length or word count but let’s not forget the actual quality of the book. These days, to make money selling eBooks, you’ll often have to make use of a few tricks like offering a part of it for free or using one eBook as a prize for a contest to help sell other volumes. To get the right balance of readers and profit, you’ll have to try what works for you and your genre. And when you find that right genre and niche, you’ll be well on your way to making thousands of extra dollars online! Want to find out more on how to make money selling eBooks?
