What You’re Doing Wrong in Facebook Marketing Let’s say you have a business and you’re using Facebook to market your product? Of course you are, everyone’s doing it and it’s free if you don’t pay for the ads and other add-ons. You’ve created the page, you’ve uploaded a graphic with a catchy come on for your cover image and you’ve asked all your friends to like it. You’ve dutifully posted a lot of content to get those ‘likes’ and ‘shares’, but your network of friends hasn’t really grown. In fact, you’re finding it awfully hard to track which sales are coming in from your Facebook page. Or you might not be getting a lot of online attention at all? What are you doing wrong? Is Facebook marketing even worth it? Facebook is a gold mine for business marketing, and that’s the truth of it. It created an online community made up of billions of people who share their thoughts, their preferences, and pretty much their whole lifestyle. And with a few Facebook marketing tips, you can make the most out of this gold mine; but where do you even begin? Let’s start by tackling the common mistakes that business owners make with Facebook marketing. 1. Posting Too Much You’ve been bending over backwards to create as much relevant and informative content as possible and you’re posting multiple times a day. This may not be a good thing. A research study showed that people responded better with one post a day. Two posts a day is still okay but go for three and you’re hurting yourself. If you go to six posts a day, you’re actually turning people away. Be helpful but not too helpful. 2. Not Supplementing Facebook Facebook is essential for online marketing but you can’t survive with just Facebook alone. You need a separate website or a landing site where you can have room to manoeuvre – to actually sell, to make a pitch, and to list prices and products more prominently. More importantly, in Facebook, you can’t put in an opt-in form where you can ask for emails – and let’s not forget that building an email list is the heart and soul of any online marketing campaign. It might not strictly qualify as one of the Facebook marketing tips, but building a list is vital. 3. Not Tracking Analytics Facebook Insights is the platform’s free and built-in analytics and it can be your best friend. It monitors visits and demographics and all those information that you need to be an effective Facebook online marketer. They can also tell you who are being

engaged with the types of content you’re posting. Are they in their 20s or 50s? Which areas respond better? Knowing who your main audience is can also shape your content. If you’re hitting the early 20s market better than the older groups, it won’t hurt to be friendlier and maybe sprinkle in some funny photos every now and then (but nothing in excess). These are only a few Facebook marketing tips that can help you go the right direction.
