Gold Coast dazzles on the world stage as Commonwealth Games officially open
GOLDEN girl Sally Pearson played a starring role as the Gold Coast finally welcomed the world to its biggest ever party with a dazzling Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. The Olympic and world champion hurdler, who was overlooked for the flag-bearer role in favour of hockey veteran Mark Knowles, had the honour of handing the Queen’s Baton to Prince Charles as the Coast’s big moment finally arrived. The Glitter Strip dazzled on the world stage as stars, real and imagined, lit up Carrara Stadium for
Games opening ceremony. A ‘starfield’ of 7000 LED lights created a perfect night sky inside the stadium as stars including Pearson and pop princesses Delta Goodrem and Ricki-Lee Coulter and shone on an overcast and breezy evening. More than a decade after the State Government launched its bid for the Games, Queensland’s biggest-ever event finally began in front of a 35,000-strong crowd, including Prince Charles
and wife Camilla, and an estimated 1.5 billion television viewers worldwide. The 140-minute spectacular on a central sandy stage featured more than 2500 performers, 4500 athletes and almost 50 tonnes of special effects equipment. Aboriginal themes dominated the ceremony on a day when indigenous protesters blocked the Queen’s baton on the Southport Spit on its final

Street Parklands followed by Vishwa Shanti Maha Yagna at Rocklea Following on from Hindu New Year , we had the Ramnaumi , and once again with the auspicious event being organised at multiple venues , it was physically impossible for us to go to all the venues, we did try and get to as many as possible, I must say that I was very impressed with enthusiastic approach by all. I would like express my sincere gratitude the organisers of Linga Bhairavi puja at Gayatri Mandir in Boondall, was such an honour to light the lamp to begin the special puja. The organising committee must be commended for the very organised and timely conduct of the event. Congratulations to the team at Laxmi Narayn Mandir or a wonderful mata Ka Jagran , it was by far one of the largest gathering I have personally witnessed at a puja function. Well, the year is well and truly passing
us by, the Commonwealth games being the highlight of the month, first of all congratulations to Reena Augustine, Mohktiar Singh and others from Indian Community for being chosen as Queens’s baton bearers in 2018. Such an honour, you all have done Indian community proud. Many of my fellow multicultural community ambassadors for the games have been busy, attending briefings etc and had the honour of attending the dress rehearsals. A word of caution on heading out to the venue allow extra travelling time , public transport is by far the better option, with so many connection options available to us. Indian nationals and athletes have been in the news for wrong reasons, first there were the fake journalists who were detained at the airport, then the needles scandal at the athletes’ village which is still under investigation well, such is life. I will now shift focus to Fiji, once again our friendly neighbour Island nation of

Fiji has been hit with serious flooding, especially in the Western districts, and four people had been reported dead at the time of publication. Cyclone Josie was by no means a very strong cyclone but it brought with it heavy rain which resulted in flash flooding. Please support any fundraising activities that have been organised and obviously there will be direct support to the families and friends by their acquaintances. Congratulations to Nadananjali School of Dance for their exquisite presentation of Natya Samarpanam in aid of Brisbane Chapter Vedanta Centre Building. Under the tutelage of Smt Chitra Yogi Srikhanta the presentation was very profession and pleasing, by the function over fifteen thousand dollars was raised for the building centre in Springfield, the centre will have the inaugural ceremony of the first phase on 27th June, ceremonies will be conducted till 30th June. The completion of the first phase will be a milestone for Queensland Indian community. Sanatan Dharam, have acquired the land at Wembley Road while Arya Samaj Bhavan is taking shape, it’s exciting times for the very active Queensland Indian Community. Punjabi “Melas” are all attracting decent crowd and all are doing well. We are pleased to be supporting many community events, and we will continue to do so, to the event organisers I would say that, while Brisbane Indian Times and Australian Indian Radio have the Indian community covered, try and get media coverage from main stream and other Ethnic groups , events these days are attracting the wider community so we should reach out to them rather multiple media from one community only , on that note it time to say good bye, until next Month Happy Reading Umesh Chandra

Saraswati – The Goddess of Knowledge
SARASWATI is the goddess of knowledge in Indian mythology. Followers of all religions that originated in India, including Buddhism and Jainism, venerate Saraswati. They offer prayers to her, hoping to gain knowledge and to become skilful in music, art and learning. Saraswati is also traditionally worshipped in East and North Asian countries where Buddhism and Hinduism have a profound influence. For example, in Japan, she is worshipped as the goddess Benzaiten. In Tibet, she is known as Yang Chen Ma. The literal meaning of Saraswati is the water that purifies. In spiritual sense it relates to Vani or voice that emerged from Brahma’s mouth. Brahma’s voice is a sacred Mantra. The same Vani became the source for appearance of goddess Saraswati. In the Vedas, Saraswati refers to a sacred river and also to a deity. Saraswati has been described in many hymns of the Rigveda. In some hymns, she is described as the best of mothers, the best of goddesses and the best of rivers. The Vedic River Saraswati disappeared over time and its current location is ambiguous. Some scholars believe that the River Saraswati meets River

Ganga and Yamuna at their confluence, known as Triveni, in Prayag, Uttar Pradesh, India, although its physical existence is not visible. The Vedic deity Saraswati embraced attributes of flowing River Saraswati and became a composite deity. The Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Puranas added new dimensions to the attributes of Saraswati. Saraswati is known by many names, each describing her attributes. According to Pauranic legends, during the creation of the world, Saraswati appeared from the voice of Brahma, the creator. Other variations of Saraswati’s appearance are also cited in the Puranas. Having appeared from the voice of Brahma, Saraswati is considered to be a daughter of Brahma. However, in some legends she is described as a spouse of Brahma and is placed in parallel with the status of Laxmi and Parvati, the spouses of Vishnu and Shiva respectively. Artists, sculptors, painters and devotees have depicted Saraswati in a myriad of forms and postures. She is portrayed as a beautiful woman in a pure white sari and a crown on her head. Her white sari represents the importance of purity and simplicity in life. She is seated on a white lotus flower in a river or lake. Her vehicle is the swan, which is normally placed close to her. Sometimes, a peacock is seated near her, symbolising the glory of knowledge that contributes to a sparkling and colourful life in the world. Saraswati is depicted with two hands as well as with four hands. When shown with two hands, she holds a Veena, a stringed musical instrument, with both hands. When depicted with four hands, she holds a book representing the Vedas, a Mala or rosary signifying importance of meditation and the Veena demonstrating all forms of creativity. A number of well known Saraswati temples are located in South India such as Shringeri Sharadamba temple in Karnataka, Dakshina Mookambika Temple in Kerala, and Kaleswaram Maha Saraswati Temple in Telangana state. Most Hindu temples have an image or sculpture of Saraswati in their complex for worship. All libraries, educational institutions, art and music centres are considered to be the temples of
Saraswati. It is believed that Saraswati appeared on the day of Vasant Panchami, which falls on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the Magh Month of the Hindu calendar, January – February according to Gregorian calendar. This day symbolises the start of the spring season, which is associated with the creative power of nature. On this day, Saraswati is worshipped all over India. In eastern India, Saraswati Puja is very popular among students. In many families, a child starts learning on this day as it is considered very auspicious. Young students bring their books to a temple and place them in front of an image of Saraswati for blessing. The priest blesses the books and returns them back to students. In the ancient Gurukul system of education, it was a common practice to offer prayer to Saraswati before the start of daily lessons.
Ancient writers, poets and artists glorified Saraswati at the start of their creative endeavours. The tradition continues to date. Saraswati has also been entreated to alter the way of thinking and speaking of a person. In the Ramayana, upon request from deities, Saraswati agitated Manthara and Kakeyi to conspire the exile of Shree Ram. Saraswati influenced Kumbhakarana to ask Brahma for a long-lasting sleep as a boon. Numerous similar legends can be found elsewhere. The goddess Saraswati has special status in the Hindu community. Almost all sects of Hinduism have great regard for Saraswati for her abilities to offer intellect and power of speech, and musical and literal creativity. More information on Hinduism will follow in the next edition of BIT. Awadhesh Sharma
Commonwealth Games 2018 are officially open Continued from Page 1
relay journey to Carrara The ceremony featured a didgeridoo orchestra, dramatic performance by the acclaimed Bangarra dancers and a traditional smoking ceremony in which Prince Charles and his wife were ‘blessed’ Aboriginal-style inside the royal box. In a fun-filled contrast to the dramatic but deeply spiritual indigenous scenes, the centre of the stadium was transformed into a mock Surfers Paradise beach complete with umbrellas, deck chairs, beach toy-playing kids, a surf school, sunbathers, lifesavers and even beach showers. Countries were called into the stadium by lifeguards in a genuine Gold Coast patrol tower, and the athletes marched in to iconic anthems by Australian artists including INXS, Midnight Oil, John Farnham and Olivia-Newton John, performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Youth Orchestra. A huge roar from the crowd signalled the arrival of the Australian team to the strains of Evie, by 1970s Aussie rock legend Stevie Wright. In another moving moment, images of everyday Queenslanders singing the national anthem — including Great Barrier Reef divers, CWA ladies from Warwick, a new Brisbane mum with her newborn child and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary workers — were beamed onto the stadium’s big screens. The athletes were marshalled into position by hundreds of real surf lifesavers hamming it up with choreographed dance moves. State-of-the-art lighting effects created lifelike images of breaking waves, a frolicking white whale Migaloo, a Gold Coast theme park rollercoaster and a giant wedge-tail eagle soaring across the stadium above indigenous dancers. Lifesavers carried Coulter across the sand on a rescue board as she performed a song called technicolor Love, surrounded by towel-twirling dancers clad in colourful bikinis and board shorts. Ceremony music director Katie Noonan, former frontwoman for Brisbane band George, also had a starring role, performing a medley including I Still Call Australia Home and I Am Australia on a white piano, backed by the Gold Coast Choir. After its epic 388-day, 230,000km around-theworld journey involving 3800 bearers, the Games baton was finally delivered into Carrara Stadium in a kombi van — the same vehicle used to collect the baton from Buckingham Palace just over a year ago. The baton had been blockaded by about 50 indigenous activists on the Spit, delaying the final leg of the relay to Carrara by about an hour. In a golden moment before she goes for Games gold in the 100m hurdles next week, Pearson handed the baton to Prince Charles as the crowd erupted. Games chairman Peter Beattie gave the welcoming address on behalf of Queensland after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was controversially overlooked for a speaking role. Mr Beattie said Australians were a ‘warm and fun-loving people’ and had invited the world to the Games to experience ‘true Australian hospitality’. “Right now there are over a billion people from all over the world watching us and this moment

that connects us all, here in this beautiful meeting place on the Gold Coast,” he said. “Our promise to all of you is that over the next 11 days, we’ll be focused on making these Games special, leaving us all with fantastic memories of what happens when we come together with open hearts and the spirit of friendship.” Prince Charles, representing his 91-year-old mother, the Queen, at the ceremony, said it was fitting that the Commonwealth Games were known as the ‘Friendly Games ... as one of the world’s friendliest countries has invited us into their homes for this momentous sporting event’. “We will see the Gold Coast, Queensland and Australia make these Games their own, adding their distinctly warm and welcoming flair to the opening ceremony and the next 11 days of competition,” he said. As the show reached its crescendo, Goodrem — dressed in a dazzling blue sequin outfit — sashayed through the stadium performing a brand new song called Welcome to Earth written especially for the ceremony. A 30m translucent effigy of Migaloo floated high above the stadium in the ceremony’s grand finale as Ruel performed his hit Golden Years and fireworks exploded over Carrara.
Celebration of Indigenous Culture PRINCE Charles and Camilla were blessed Aboriginal-style in an ancient smoking ceremony in the royal box as indigenous culture took centre stage at last night’s opening spectacular. Local Yugambeh Aboriginal artist Luther Cora and his family performed the ceremony in the middle of the stadium before the smoking bundle of plants was taken to the box to ‘cleanse’ the Prince and Duchess of Cornwall. Striking indigenous themes dominated the ceremony which began with big screen images of 11-year-old Aboriginal girl Isabella Graham sitting in the crowd holding a mobile phone. Isabella, the niece of Coast Games medal designer Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, raised the phone displaying the message: ‘Welcome to the oldest living culture on earth’ It signalling a countdown to a dramatic burst of blue pyrotechnics representing planet earth’s creation. World-renowned didgeridoo player William Barton also starred, with images of him blowing his instrument atop Surfers Paradise super-tower Q1 before appearing in the stadium as part of the ‘Four Winds’ didgeridoo orchestra. Mau Power, the first hip-hop artist to emerge out of the Torres Strait, performed his upbeat rap remake of the Christine Anu hit before Anu herself joined him in the middle of the stadium. Daubed in ghostly paint and feathers and carrying smoking staffs, members of the acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre performed a totem ceremony which finished with a flyover by a giant wedge tail eagle created as part of a dazzling light show. The athletes paraded around the stadium on an 8m wide ribbon of indigenous artwork created by renowned Torres Strait artist Brian Robinson. A giant effigy of famed white whale Migaloo, lit up with images of Antarctica and the Great Barrier Reef painted by Cockatoo-Collins, floated across the stadium in a dramatic finale. Skilled Migragtion Program Changes to Subclass 186 and 187 from March 2018 We have been recently getting a lot of enquiries about the changes with the permanent visa subclasses 186 (ENS) and 187 (RSMS). The below points will give our readers a brief idea of what the changes are which will help them get an idea of their eligibility and the steps they need to take moving further. As everyone is already aware the government announced significant changes to the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa Subclass 186 and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa Subclass 187. These changes came into effect from 18th March 2018 and since there has been a lot of confusion and a lot of questions around it so let’s see what exactly has changed.
How will these migration program changes impact employees and employers? Age – Applicants must be under the maximum age requirement of 45 at the time of application. Occupation Lists – New occupation lists have already been implemented. The Medium and Longterm Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) now applies to the Direct Entry stream for both the ENS and the RSMS. Further occupations will be included for the RSMS to support regional employers. Minimum market salary rate – Employers must pay the Australian market salary rate and meet the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), currently $53,900. Al-Isra’ & Al-Mi^raj Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, the One Who exists without a place. To Him belong the endowments and proper commendations. May Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad and his kind Al and Companions and protect his nation from what he fears for them. May the Lord of Heavens and Earth grant us the sincere intentions and guide us to the acceptable deeds. Thereafter, Allah sent the prophets as a mercy to the slaves and supported them with miracles to indicate the truthfulness of their message. Of all the prophets, our Prophet, Muhammad, was blessed with the most miracles. Al-Isra’ and alMi^raj are among the many miracles of Prophet Muhammad. The miracle of Al-Isra’ is confirmed in the Qur’an. In Surat al-Isra’, Ayah 1, Allah said: which means: [Praise be to Allah Who enabled His slave, Muhammad, to make the journey at night from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, which is surrounded by a blessed land.] This journey is also confirmed in the sahih hadith. As such, there is scholarly consensus (ijma^) Prophet Muhammad journeyed in body and soul the night of al-Isra’ from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsain Jerusalem. Moreover, these scholars indicated the person who denies al-Isra’ is a blasphemer for belying the explicit text of the Qur’an. Before the Prophet took this night journey, the ceiling of the house in which he was staying was opened, and Jibril descended. He cut open the chest of Prophet Muhammad and washed that open area with Zamzam water. Then he emptied something from a container into the chest of the Prophet to increase his wisdom as well as the strength of his belief. This was done to prepare the Messenger of Allah for that which he had yet to see in the upper world from among the wonders of the creation of Allah.
Al-Isra’ After the Prophet performed the Evening Prayer (^Isha’), Jibril came to him with a white animal, slightly larger than a donkey yet smaller than a mule. This animal was the buraq,–one of the animals of Paradise. Jibril held the buraq by his ear and told the Prophet to mount it. When the buraq was mounted, the Prophet set forth. The buraq is a very fast animal; the length of the buraq’s stride is the farthest distance it’s eye can see. The Prophet and Jibril arrived to a land with palm trees. Jibril told the Prophet to dismount and pray, so the Prophet dismounted the buraq and prayed two rak^as. Jibril asked him, “Do you know where you prayed?” and the Prophet answered, “Allah knows best.” Jibril told him, “This is Yathrib; this is Taybah. “.” (These are two names for the city of al-Madinah.) Before the Prophet emigrated to al-Madinah, it was called Taybah and Yathrib. It earned the name al-Madinah after the Prophet emigrated to it. The buraq continued with the Prophet and Jibril until they reached another place. Again Jibril told the Prophet to get down and pray. The Prophet dismounted there and prayed two rak^as. Jibril informed the Prophet of the name of that place; it was Tur Sina’. Once again the buraq took off with the Prophet and Jibril. Once again it stopped, and the Prophet dismounted and prayed two rak^as. This was in Bayt Lahm, where Prophet ^Isa (Jesus) was born. Then the buraq continued with the Messenger of Allah until they entered the city of Jerusalem. There the Prophet went to Masjid al-Aqsa. Outside was a ring used by the Messengers of Allah to tie their animals. The Prophet tied his buraq to this ring. Then the Prophet entered the masjid where Allah assembled for him all the Prophets–from Adam to ^Isa. Prophet Muhammad moved forward and led them all in prayer. This is an indication the Prophet is higher in status than all the rest of the prophets and messengers. 1- On Prophet Muhammad’s journey from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa, Allah enabled him to see some of His wondrous creations. Allah enabled the Prophet to see the world (dunya) like an old woman. However, this old woman was wearing a great deal of jewelry, and in this there is an indication signifying the reality of the world. 2- Allah enabled the Prophet to see Iblis. The Prophet saw something on the side of the road which did not dare to stand in his way or speak to him. What the Prophet saw was Iblis. Originally, Iblis was a believer and lived with the angels in Paradise. When Allah ordered the angels to prostrate (sujud) to Prophet Adam, Iblis was ordered to prostrate to him as well. The angels prostrated to Adam in obedience to Allah, because angels do not disobey Allah. However, Iblis did not obey, and he objected to the order of Allah. He said, “You created me out of fire, and You created him out of clay. How do You order me to prostrate to him?” So this objection by Iblis to the order of 12 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, April, 2018

Allah was the first blasphemy he committed. 3- On his journey, the Prophet smelled a very nice odor. He asked Jibril about this pleasant scent and Jibril informed him this good smell was coming from the grave of the woman whose duty used to be to comb Pharaoh’s daughter’s hair. This woman was a good, pious believer. One day, as she was combing Pharaoh’s daughter’s hair, the comb fell from her hand. At this she said, “”Bismillah. “Pharaoh’s daughter asked her, “Do you have a god other than my father?” The woman said, “Yes. My Lord and the Lord of your father is Allah.” Pharaoh’s daughter told her father what had happened. Pharaoh demanded this woman blaspheme and leave Islam, but she refused. At that, Pharaoh threatened to kill her children. He brought a great pot of water and built a great fire under it. When the water boiled, Pharaoh brought her children and started to drop them into that pot one after the other. Throughout all this, the woman remained steadfast to Islam, even when Pharaoh reached her youngest child–a little boy still breast feeding–but she felt pity for him. At that, Allah enabled this child to speak. He said to his mother, “O Mother, be patient. The torture of the Hereafter is far more severe than the torture of this life, and do not be reluctant, because you are right.” At this the woman requested Pharaoh collect her bones and the bones of her children and bury them in the same grave. Pharaoh promised her that–then dropped her into that boiling water. She died as a martyr. The good odor the Prophet smelled coming from her grave is an indication of her high status. 4- During his trip, the Prophet saw people who were planting and reaping in two days. Jibril told the Prophet, “These were the people who fight for the sake of Allah (mujahidun). “).” 5- The Prophet also saw people whose lips and tongues were clipped with scissors made of fire. Jibril told the Prophet, “These are the speakers of sedition (fitna) who call people to misguidance.” 6- He also saw a bull which exited a very small outlet, then was trying in vain to return through that small outlet. Jibril told the Prophet, “This is the example of the bad word–once spoken, it cannot be returned.” 7- The Prophet saw people grazing like animals, with very little clothing on their private parts. Jibril told the Prophet, “These are the ones who refused to pay zakat. “.” 8- The Prophet saw angels smashing some people’s heads with rocks. These heads would return to the shape they had been, and then the angels would smash their heads again–and so on. Jibril told the Prophet, “These are the ones whose heads felt too heavy to perform prayer–the ones who used to sleep without praying.” 9- On his journey the Prophet saw people who were competing to eat some rotten meat–ignoring meat that was sliced and unspoiled. Jibril told the Prophet, “These are people from your nation who leave out that which is permissible (halal), and consume that which is forbidden ((haram). “This reference was to the fornicators, that is, the ones who left out the permissible (marriage) and committed sins (fornication). 10- Also, the Prophet saw people who were drinking from the fluid coming from the bodies of the fornicators, (water mixed with blood). Jibril indicated to the Prophet these were the ones who were drinking the alcohol which is prohibited in this world. 11- The Prophet saw people scratching their faces and chests with brass finger nails. Jibril said, “These are the examples of those who commit gossip ((ghibah). “).”
Al-Mi^raj 1- After the Prophet took this night journey from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa, he ascended to the upper heavens. The Prophet ascended to the heaven on stairs, called al-mirqat, in which one step is made of gold and the next of silver, and so on. These stairs are veiled from us. The Prophet ascended these stairs until he reached the first heaven. When the Prophet and Jibril arrived at the first heaven, Jibril requested the gate to be opened. The angel assigned to that gate asked Jibril, “Who is with you?” Jibril answered, “It is Muhammad.” The angel asked Jibril, “Was he dispatched? Is it time for him to ascend to the heaven?” Jibril said, “Yes.” So, the gate was opened for him, and Prophet Muhammad entered the first heaven. There, Prophet Muhammad saw Prophet Adam. To Adam’s right, the Prophet saw some bodies, and to Adam’s left, other bodies. If Adam would look to his right he would laugh, and if he would look to his left he would cry. Adam was seeing the souls of his descendants. Those on his right were his descendants who would die as believers and those on his left were his descendants who would die as non-believers.
Then the Prophet ascended to the second heaven. In this second heaven was where Prophet Muhammad saw Prophets ^Isa and Yahya. ^Isa and Yahya are cousins; their mothers were sisters. They welcomed the Prophet and made supplication (du^a’) for him for good things. The Prophet ascended to the third heaven, where he found Prophet Yusuf. Prophet Yusuf was extremely handsome. Allah bestowed half the beauty on Yusuf. Yusuf received the Prophet with a warm welcome and made supplication (du^a’) for him for good things. Then the Prophet ascended to the fourth heaven, where he found Prophet Idris. Idris welcomed the Prophet and made supplication (du^a’) for him for good things. In the fifth heaven, the Prophet encountered Harun, the brother of Prophet Musa. In the sixth heaven, he encountered Prophet Musa. Each of these Prophets received Prophet Muhammad with a warm welcome and made supplication (du^a’)’) for him for good things. Then the Prophet ascended to the seventh heaven, and that is where our Messenger saw Prophet Ibrahim. Prophet Ibrahim is the best of the prophets after our prophet, Muhammad. The Prophet saw Prophet Ibrahim with his back against al-Bayt al-Ma^mur. To the inhabitants of the skies, al-Bayt al-Ma^mur is like the Ka^bah is to us, the inhabitants of the earth. Every day 70,000 angels go there; then exit from it, and never return. The next day another 70,000 angels go, come out, and never return. This will continue until the Day of Judgment. In this, there is an indication as to the greatness of the numbers of the angels–their numbers are far more than the numbers of the humans and the jinns together. In the seventh heaven, Prophet Muhammad saw Sidrat al-Muntaha–a very big tree of sidr. Each of the fruits of this tree is as large as a big jar. The leaves of this tree are similar to the ears of the elephants. Sidrat al-Muntahais an extremely beautiful tree. It is visited by butterflies made of gold. When these butterflies gather on this tree, its beauty is beyond description. Then the Prophet ascended to what is beyond the seven skies; he entered Paradise. He saw examples of the inhabitants of Paradise and how their situation would be. He saw most of the inhabitants of Paradise are the poor people . The Prophet saw other things on the night of his ascension. He saw Malik, the angel in charge of the Hellfire. Malik did not smile at the Prophet when he saw him, and the Prophet asked why. In answer to the Prophet’s question, Jibril said, “Malik did not smile since the day Allah created him. Had he smiled for anyone, he would have smiled for you.” In Paradise, the Prophet saw some of the bounties Allah prepared for the inhabitants of Paradise. He saw the Hur ul-^In: females Allah created who are not humans or jinn. They are in Paradise and will be married to those men Allah willed them to marry. The Prophet saw the wildan ul-mukhalladun: creations of Allah who are not human, jinn, or angels. They are a very beautiful creation of Allah whose appearance is like laid-out pearls. They are servants of the inhabitants of Paradise. The least in status of the People of Paradise will have 10,000 wildan ul-mukhalladun to serve him. Each one of them would carry a tray of gold in one hand and a tray of silver in the other hand. The Prophet saw the Throne (^Arsh), which is the ceiling of Paradise. The Throne is the largest creation of Allah in size; Allah did not create anything bigger in size than it. The seven heavens and the earth in comparison to the Kursiyy, are like a ring thrown in a desert, and the Kursiyy in comparison to the Throne, is like a ring thrown in a desert. The seven heavens and the earth in comparison to the Throne are like a seed of mustard compared to the ocean. Allah created the Throne as a sign of His Power and He did not create the Throne to sit on it. Allah created the Throne to show His Power. It is carried by four angels, and on the Day of Judgment, it will be carried by eight. The Prophet said he was permitted to speak about one of these angels who carry the Throne. In describing this angel, the Prophet told us the distance between his ear lobe and shoulder is the distance a fast-flying bird would cover in 700 years. Then the Prophet ascended beyond Paradise. He reached a place where he heard the creaking of the pens used by the angels who are copying from the Preserved Tablet. It is at that location Prophet Muhammad heard the Kalam of Allah, which is an attribute of the Self of Allah. He heard the Kalam of Allah which does not resemble our speech–so it is not something that occurs bit after bit. It is not letter after letter or a word that comes after another word. Rather, it is an attribute of Allah which is eternal and everlasting. It does not resemble our attributes. The Kalam of Allah has neither silence nor interruptions. It is an attribute of Allah, and it

does not resemble the attributes of the creation. The Prophet understood several things from hearing this Kalam of Allah. He understood the obligation of the five Obligatory Prayers. At first, Allah obligated fifty prayers. When Prophet Muhammad encountered Musa, Musa told him to make supplication (du^a’) to his Lord to ease the obligation of fifty (50) prayers, because his nation could not handle that. Musa said, “I have experience with the people of Israel, and I know your nation cannot bear that.” So the Prophet asked his Lord to lessen these prayers for his people. Five prayers were eliminated. Once again, Musa told the Prophet to ask Allah to lessen the number of prayers. Allah did. Nine times the Prophet made supplication to Allah to lessen these prayers–until these prayers were lessened to five Obligatory Prayers. So Prophet Musa was a great benefit to us. Had we been obligated to pray fifty prayers a day, this would have been a difficult matter for us. From the Kalam of Allah, the Prophet also understood that a good deed would be written for the person who intends to do a good deed, even if he did not do it. Also, the good deed performed would be registered for he who performs it as at least ten good deeds–up to 700 good deeds. For some people, Allah would multiply the reward of their deeds more than that. Additionally, if one performs a bad deed, it is registered for him as one bad deed; yet for he who inclines towards committing a bad deed and then refrains from committing it, a good deed would be registered for him. Here one should note the difference between two matters. If a thought crossed a person’s mind about doing something sinful, and this person wavered in this thinking, i.e., considered whether he should do it or not, then he refrained from doing this for the sake of Allah, this is written as a good deed. However, if a person has the firm intention in his heart that he wants to commit a sin, it would be written for him as a sin, even if he does not do it.
The Prophet Returns to Makkah After all these matters took place with the Prophet, he returned to the city of Makkah. Some scholars said the Prophet’s journey took about onethird of the night, i.e., his journey from Makkah to Jerusalem, then to the heavens and what is above them, and then back to Makkah the next day the Prophet told the people what happened to him the previous night. The blasphemers belied the Prophet and mocked him, saying, “We need a month to get there and back, and you are claiming to have done all this in one night?” They said to Abu Bakr, “Look at what your companion is saying. He says he went to Jerusalem and came back in one night.” Abu Bakr told them, “If he said that, then he is truthful. I believe him concerning the news of the heavens–that an angel descends to him from the heavens. How could I not believe he went to Jerusalem and came back in a short period of time–when these are on earth?” At that, the Companion, Abu Bakr, was called “as-Siddiq”– because of how strongly he believed in all what the Prophet said. The blasphemous people questioned the Prophet: “If you are truthful, then describe to us Masjid al-Aqsa and its surroundings.” They asked this because they knew Prophet Muhammad had never been there before the previous night. Allah enabled the Messenger to see Masjid al-Aqsa, and he described the masjid and its surroundings in exact detail. Moreover, the Prophet said, “On my way back, I saw some of your shepherds grazing their animals in a particular location. They were searching for a camel they had lost.” The Prophet continued by giving the description of the camel. When these shepherds came back, they told their people what happened to them–precisely as the Prophet had already told them. These blasphemers admitted the Prophet’s description was exact. Despite that, they were still stubborn and rejected the faith. They did not accept Islam. Only those whom Allah willed to be guided, will be guided. The person whom Allah did not will to be guided, will not believe–regardless of how much explanation or how many proofs he is shown. The person whom Allah willed to be guided, surely he will be a believer. Many people witnessed miracles and still did not believe. Many people witnessed the miracle of the Prophet’s splitting of the moon. Those who refused to embrace Islam said, “This is magic. Muhammad played a magic trick on our eyes.” They even asked the people of a faraway land who witnessed the moon split in two. Despite this, they still did not believe. They said, “The magic of Muhammad is powerful; it even reached the faraway lands!” This was their response to witnessing a miracle– instead of believing and becoming Muslims. We ask Allah that we would all die as Muslims. We ask Allah to bestow on us the bounty of entering Paradise without torture. And Allah knows best. Call 07 3865 6533

THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, April, 2018 — 13
Good Friday and Great Sunday! Key Scripture:
Dear Reader, We are excited to bring you the greatest good news on this planet. Our theme simple and clear. It is to make God simple and personal. And to make God very real person so you can know and relate to Him. God is not an object or an image or imagination of human mind. God is a living and loving person. We find this amazing revelation in the pages of Holy Bible. Keep reading with an open heart and humble spirit. You will encounter your Creator today. You don’t need a thousand years for your Salvation (Mukti). You can receive your greatest miracle ‘Mukti’ today. This is the confidence you can have in Christ alone. We just celebrated the holidays for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. What does Good Friday mean to you? And what happened on following Sunday? These two are very important questions. We must seek a clear understand-ing and examine the implications to human history. Almost 2000 years ago, History has accurately recorded these events. God the almighty entered into human history to reconcile the fallen and sin infected humanity. Jesus Christ (Eternal God), took a human form to be-come an ultimate lamb of God. He suffered very deeply and was nailed on to the cross. He died on Friday, the Jewish day of
Listen, and I will tell you a divine mystery: not all of us will die, but we will all be transformed. It will happen in an instant—in the twinkling of his eye. For when the last trumpet is sounded, the dead will come back to life. We will be indestructible and we will be transformed. - 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 (Passion Translation) passover. His death was foretold almost 300 times by the prophets. He was laid in tomb, and tomb was sealed. Our debts of all sins and karma was paid in full by this supreme sacrifice. Imagine you and your family had debt of millions of dollars, which you could never paid in all generations. That debt of sin and karma was just got wiped out by the blood of Jesus. That is a very good news for all those who believe. The Story Jesus Christ did not end in the tomb. But it begins with great triumph over death and decay. Mankind has learnt to overcome gravity and fly like a bird, land on the moon. We also have learnt dive deep into the depths of sea and explore the hidden life. But no man has ever overcome the death and grip of the grave. ‘Death’ has the power to hold human body and soul in the grave. But this time spirit of death could not hold Je-sus down in the tomb. But this time ‘death’ has been defeated by the divine power of God. Therefore ‘Death’ is not an end of life if you believe in Je-sus. Jesus offers eternal life, and no fear of the natural death we face as we become old and die. Faith in Christ means no fear of death. It is written that death has been defeated once for all. Mankind can over-come all
the karma and grip of death and hell. That is why we can move from “Good Friday to Great Sunday”. This is a divine truth. When you be-lieve this truth, you will experience a divine peace. Open your heart and mind to understand this scriptures: “For we will discard our mortal “clothes” and slip into a body that is im-perishable. What is mortal now will be exchanged for immortality. And when that which is mortal puts on immortality, and what now decays is ex-changed for what will never decay, then the Scripture will be fulfilled that says: Death is swallowed up by a triumphant victory! So death, tell me, where is your victory? Tell me death, where is your sting? It is sin that gives death its sting and the law that gives sin its power. But we thank God for giving us the victory as conquerors through our Lord Je-sus, the Anointed One. 58 So now, beloved ones. 1 Cor. 15:53-56 (Passion) There is only one way to make your new year a good year. You need to know the true source of Good News and embrace it into your heart. If your past years were filled with pain and failure, don’t look
back. Look to the Good News, It is here and it is waiting for the humble and sincere seeker of God; Author of life has given you an unfailing invitation to a genuine rela-tionship. For I am absolutely convinced that finding and receiving God’s love is the most significant purpose of your life. No religion or tradition can give an unconditional love, and a supreme love offered by Jesus Christ. To know Jesus as The Lord, mean to know that He is the author of your life. And to walk in His ways mean, that journey through this life by faith in His Word and in His finished work on the Cross. He is the most loving person you will ever know on this planet. Therefore, we invite you to pray this with a sincere heart; “Dear Father God, today I thank you for your word that has touched my heart. I repent of my wrongs and I confess with my mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and I believe in my heart that Jesus died for my sins, God raised Jesus from the dead for my Mukti (Salvation). Now help me to know Jesus more and more so that I can grow in the knowledge of your grace and mercy. Teach me your ways so that I can be person who will learn to honour you and learn to love each other. Amen. Please email to us your encounter experience, so we can help you to grow in the understanding your Creator and Redeemer. nav-ig8grace@gmail.com
In pursuit of Eternal Bliss Vijay Gopal
PROMINENT local South Indian artists joined forces on 10th March 2018 at Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre to present ‘in pursuit of Eternal Bliss’ – a thematic production that featured exclusive displays of South Indian classical dances, carnatic vocals and instruments. The program was themed on Shanmatam, which means “Six Religions” from Vedic past. Through these six different religions and its manifestations namely; Shiva, Vishnu, Shakti, Ganesha, Surya and Skanda; Shanmatham advocates belief in the essential oneness of all deities through one divine power; the Brahman.Susmitha Ravi (Carnatic vocals), Murali Ramakrishnan (flute), Dr. Kiran Varma (Mridangam), Bindu Rajendren (Mohiniattam) and Sriranjani Chandramouli (Bharatanatyam) enticed the audience with classical performances that depicted the celestial charms of the Brahman through the depiction of the six different deities. Susmitha won the hearts of the audience by exhibiting her skills not only in raga, but also through her soulful rendition and in controlling the rhythmic aspects of the music and its conduct alongside the dancer. The program started with traditional worship of Lord Ganesha through a musical rendition of the famous Carnatic song Vathapi Ganapathim by Susmitha, Murali and Kiran. This was followed 14 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, April, 2018
by Mallari and Mudakaratha Modakam recital in Bharatanatyam by Sriranjani. In her Mellatur style, Sriranjani pulsated the audience with her pounding footwork that reverberated throughout the theatre, urbane hand gestures and scintillating facial expressions. She also performed for two other popular compositions namely Bho Shambho and Subramaniar Kauthuvam. Sriranjani’s dances were choreographed by her guru Nadanamamani Smt Revathi Ramachandran from Chennai, India. With her delicate footwork, swaying body movements and emotion-filled repertoires, Bindu clearly differentiated Mohiniattam style of dance from Bharathnatyam. She mesmerised the audience with her solo performances for traditional compositions of Devi Stuti, Shiva Stuti on Mahadeva Shiva Shambho and Jayadeva’s Ashtapathi, Chandana Charchitha. The solo choreographies presented by Bindu were guided and taught by her Guru Smt Tara Rajkumar OAM from Natya Sudha Dance Company, Melbourne. Murali and Kiran also performed solo items that were fascinating to the audience. Murali’s rendition of Samaja Varagamana on the flute was melodious and articulate leaving a trance like effect on the audience. Kiran’s thaniavarthanam on the mridangam displayed a subtle yet riveting display of rhythms that left the audience wanting more from this young artist. The piece de resistance was definitely the the grand finale, the Surya Stotram and a Thillana set to Poorvi Ragam that depicted the union of the soul with the one divine power; the Brahman that was performed by all the artistes. Bindu and Sriranjani’s performance in their respective styles turned out to be the act of the evening.

This dance was choreographed by Bindu and Sriranjani with guidance from their respective Gurus. The dance choreography depicted the clear disparity between the two dance styles in the first half of the performance, which then subtly unified to highlight a free flowing union.

At times it felt like the dancers were trying to outwit each other, symbolising the diversity in culture and yet the choreography concluded with analogous style symbolising unity beyond differences. Rama Navami
RAMA Navami is the day on which Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, incarnated in human form in the land of Ayodhya. He is the ardha ansh of Vishnu or has half the divinitive qualities of Lord Vishnu. The word “Rama” literally means one who is divinely blissful and who gives joy to others, and one in whom the sages rejoice. Ram Navami falls on the ninth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Chaitra and coincides with Vasant Navratri or Chait Durga Puja. Therefore in some regions, the festival is spread over nine days. This day, marking the birthday of Lord Rama, is also observed as the marriage day of Rama and Sita and thus also referred to as Kalyanotsavam.
Background Bhagwan Rama exemplified the perfect person (maryada purushottam). He was the embodiment of compassion, gentleness, kindness, righteousness and integrity. Although he had all the power in the world, he still was peaceful and gentle. His reign in Ayodha is referred to as Ramarajya, the epitome of perfect governance. Ayodhya was the capital founded by the king-rishi Manu. During the reign of King Dasharath, Ayodhya reached a period of great prosperity. But Dasharath had one problem - he had no children. Therefore he decided to perform the ashvamedh sacrifice. Elaborate and difficult rituals had to be observed. Rishi Rishyashring presided over the yagya. The performance of this sacrifice was a great event in Ayodhya. At the end, Rishyashring recited a Mantra and made an offering to the fire. Then the gods, gandharvas, siddhas, and rishis present around began to pray to Brahma. During that time Ravana, the king
of Lanka, was terrorizing the people, and they were longing for liberation from his menace. Ravana had acquired great power because he had obtained from God Brahma the boon that he would never die at the hands of gods, or gandharvas, or yakshas (demigods) or demons. As he was not afraid of men, he did not care to include men in the list of his potential slayers. So Brahmadev declared that Ravana would die at the hands of a man. Then the gods went to Vishnu for help and requested him that since Dasharath was a glorious

king, that He take birth in the wombs of his three queens in four different incarnations of His divinity. When Dasharath’s sacrifice came to an end, a shining figure appeared over the sacrificial kund, and offered the king a divine beverage called “payasam”, which was to be given to his queens Kausalya, Kaikayi, and Sumitra. In due time, Kausalya gave birth to Rama, Kaikayi to Bharat and Sumitra to Laxman and Shatrugna. The Sun is considered to be the progenitor of Rama’s dynasty, which is called the Solar Dynasty (Raghukula or Raghuvamsa – Raghu means Sun and Kula or Vamsa mean
familial descendant). Rama is also known as Raghunatha, Raghupati, Raghavendra etc. That all these names begin with the prefix Raghu is also suggestive of some link with Sun-worship. The hour chosen for the observance of the Lord’s birth is that when the Sun is overhead and is at its

maximum brilliance. In some Hindu sects, prayers on Ramnavami day start not with an invocation to Rama but to Surya (Sun). Again the syllable Ra is used in the word to describe the Sun and brilliance in many languages. In Sanskrit, Ravi and Ravindra both mean “Sun”. In Brisbane the
Ramnaumi was observed at multiple locations and all the locations had good attendance, indeed it is getting very well known and observed, it is a very popular and very important festival of Hindus worldwide. In many Diaspora countries, Ram Naumi has a very high spiritual and religious value. Call 07 3865 6533

Dr Sophie McIntyre’s book launch was presented in the form of panel discussion by Professor Chwei-Liang CHIOU and Dr Mei-Fen KUO of University of Queensland, and moderated by Edward Lin. The talk was held at Queensland Taiwan Centre on 3rd March. Dr McIntyre’s research experience focuses on contemporary Asian arts. The topic of the discussion was about her newly published book “Imagining Taiwan:
The Role of Art in Taiwan’s Quest for Identity”. Audience and media were fascinated by how grass-rooted artists express their thoughts about localised Taiwan cultural consciousness and awareness. Changhua Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra from Taiwan entertained the guests of the Official Reception on 8th March for the STORIES Multi-national Painting Exhibition at Queensland Parliament House. Through their artworks, the artists tell their stories, feelings and experiences from theirs lives in Taiwan, France, Japan and Australia. In honour of Director CHI, Po-LIN and a salute to all environmental workers, the last event of 2018 Brisbane International Arts Festival was a movie screening of the award winning environmental documentary
“Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above” at SunPAC, Sunnybank on 17th March. It was an artistic, informative and entertaining weekend activity. Audience were fascinated by the beautiful natural scene of Taiwan and overwhelmed by how human economic activities could damage the environment. The movie also presented a bright optimism showing how some people have been working on resolutions. At the end of the movie, Edward Lin announced the remaining and completed Festival programs. He also offered a Vote of Thanks to all the participating artists, panellists, sponsors, community organisations, volunteers, media and audience. Many audience stayed after the movie and took photos to mark their memory of 2018 BIAF. This Festival is supported by Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Indian Times, Australian Indian Radio, Vivace Music along with many other local businesses, media, and community organisations. See you next year!
Why are we so troubled? Sadhguru, Isha Foundation
TODAY, ninety percent of the people are in different states of mental sickness. It is just that the level of sickness is sometimes manageable, sometimes unmanageable. Once in a while, they flare up for some time and then they settle down again. They are managing, but the madness is very much there. Whatever problem you have – anxiety, fear, psychosis or anything – according to that, they put you into the corresponding category and they have a treatment for that – and what kind of treatment it is! They somehow adjust the whole situation and make you manageably mad, not sane. Nobody can make you sane, please know this. From unmanageable madness, they can bring you down to manageable madness. Everybody has learned the trick to manage the madness. 20 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, April, 2018
All the psychologists and psychiatrists have only studied sick people. People like Freud never found a meditator or a Buddha to study. He would have studied only those people who are in different states of mental sickness, either manageably mad or unmanageably mad, whichever way. They only studied mad people, and the one who does the studying is also equally mad – it is not that he has transcended his limitations. On the spiritual path, the way of treating madness is very different. Generally, if somebody goes really mad, especially with psychological problems, what they do is take him to the master at a monastery or an ashram. If this person had remained in the family, they would have tried to attend to him too much and do everything for him. If they take him to the hospital or the asylum, there also people will attend to him, guard
him and do many things. If they take him to a Buddhist monastery for example, there, they will just leave him and ignore him completely. He shouts, raves, throws stones, whatever he does, nobody reacts. Everybody just goes about doing their own work, not reacting to any madness. Within a few days this person will settle down and become peaceful because without attention, his madness cannot go on. Madness is simply an overflowing of your ego. So they would just ignore the man, put him in a corner and not bother about him. They don’t even call him for food. If the fellow is really hungry he will come and eat. Otherwise, he will just work out his madness and become okay. The atmosphere is right, the energy is high. Slowly, that man will settle down and then he will come and say, “Teach me meditation.” Ignore the madness and it will die by itself.

Cyclone Josie: Four dead, major flooding as tropical storm batters Fiji FIJI is reeling from the impact of a tropical cyclone that has killed at least four people and caused major flooding, according to local media. While Cyclone Josie was a relatively weak category one when it passed to the country's south-west over the weekend, it brought heavy flooding to the main island of Viti Levu. According to the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC), authorities have urged people to take precautions after four people were confirmed dead in the floodwaters. The deceased include Veer Goundar, 57, and his daughter Shinal Mudaliar, 25, who were on their way to the Nadi airport when their vehicle was washed off the Tabarua Bridge, the FBC said. Authorities are still searching for a 19-yearold man who was believed to have been washed away on Sunday, according to FBC. The tourist town of Nadi was inundated with rain, and Fiji Airways cancelled several flights across the weekend. Melbourne man Tafazul Akhtar had been in Nadi for a week and said the rain burst the banks of rivers in the town. "There wasn't much damage by the wind itself, but there is substantial damage to
crops, to animals, livestock, the roads are still flooded … it's going to be a really touchy couple of weeks," he said. The National Disaster Management Office said 35 evacuation centres across Viti Levu would house nearly 2,000 evacuees. Ba, in the north of the main island, was one of the worst hit areas. Local Ba resident and publisher of MaiLife magazine Naziah Ali said the community was shocked by the speed and damage of the floodwaters. "It was raining quite a lot for a number of days before the floods hit yesterday … so we were kind of aware that the floodwaters might come, but we did not know how quickly it would come," Ms Ali told the ABC. Fiji was devastated by Cyclone Winston in 2016, a category five storm that killed more than 40 people and destroyed thousands of homes. "I think we're almost constantly in recovery mode, always trying to rebuild ourselves," Ms Ali said. Though making landfall as a much lower category storm, the immense rainfall accompanying Cyclone Josie caused more devastation than many locals expected.
"During Winston we had strong winds but less rain, but this time basically we had little wind but a lot of rainfall," President of the Ba Mission Hospital and local businessman Jay Dayal said. Local resident Pauline Kostatino said the floodwaters had receded but were blocking
roads across the island, with locals assisting motorists trying to make their way across low-lying bridges "Most of the homes along the way from Sigatoka to Navua were already flooded and taking in water," she said.
Man dies in a road accident Fijian weightlifter screams with delight as she smashes out along Nalovo in Nadi gold medal lift for her country
By Dhanjay Deo
A MAN died in a road accident along Nalovo in Nadi this afternoon. The victim was a passenger
in a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man who is alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol. Another passenger is
currently admitted in the Lautoka Hospital as investigations continue. The driver is currently being questioned at the Nadi Police Station.

WEIGHTLIFTER Eileen Cikamatana was just two years old last time Fiji won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. It's been a long time between drinks for the Pacific nation, a drought that was ended in spectacular fashion on the Gold Coast today, after she triumphed in the women's 90kg event today. Her total of 233kg was only one ahead of her Aussie rival, but failed to reflect the dominance the 18-year-old showed. In fact, her final two lifts in the clean and jerk were simply academic, having secured first place with her first effort at 130kg. "Feel overwhelmed, excited, I feel very happy," she said after collecting Fiji's first gold medal in any event since Manchester in 2002.

All towns in the Western Division have been cleared including Ba town and
Lautoka City that are currently closed. Police have confirmed that officers were out in towns earlier helping close up businesses.

They have also confirmed that there have been no reports of major flooding and major road closures as yet.
"My first Commonwealth Games, good experience, I was pretty nervous but I was here for just one thing - gold." She left home at 16 to train under Paul Coffa in New Caledonia, leaving her friends and family in Fiji. They were in the stands to cheer her on, the first time they've seen her lift in international competition. She paid tribute to Coffa and Joe Vueti, and their families, who looked after her when she was living away from home. "It means a lot to me, they've done so much, I just want to thank them for everything." She refused to get carried away, however, saying she would be getting back to training shortly with more events looming. "This is not the end, just the start."

DJJS organises Vishwa Shanti MahaYagna
ON THE auspicious occasion of Bharatiya Navwarsh (Hindu New Year) Diva Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan ( DJJS) Brisbane organised Vishwa Shanti Maha Yagna. The Hindu New Year is Vikram Samvat 2075, DJJS has been in the forefront of organising Bharaiya Navwarsh for the couple of years, and have now come up with the Maha Yagna concept which aligns with the Hindu values. Rather than a festival mode it has rightfully taken the spiritual and religious mode, as it is an auspicious moment with such religious significance. Vikram Samvat is the historical Hindu calendar of India and Nepal. It uses lunar months and solar sidereal year for Vedic time keeping. It is used as the official calendar in Nepal. The Vikram Samvat has two alternative systems. It started in 56 BCE in southern (purnimanta) and 57–56 BCE in northern (amanta) systems of Hindu calendar. The Shukla Paksha in both systems coincides, most festivals occur in the Shukla Paksha. The era is named after King Vikramaditya of India. The lunisolar Vikram Samvat calendar is 56.7 years ahead (in count) of the solar Gregorian calendar. For example, the year 2074 VS began in 2017 CE and will ended in 2018 CE. The Rana rulers of Nepal made Vikram Samvat the official Hindu calendar in 1901 CE, which started as Samvat 1958. In Nepal, the New Year begins with the first day of the month of Baishakh, which usually falls within the months of April–May in the Gregorian calendar. The first day of the new year is passionately celebrated in a historical carnival that takes place every year in Bhaktapur, called biska Jatra. As before, from 2007 AD Nepal Sambat is recognized as the national
calendar. In India, the reformulated Saka Calendar is officially used (although not for computing the dates of the traditional festivals), although in the Hindi version of the Preamble of the Constitution of India, the date of adoption of the constitution, 26 November 1949, is presented in Vikram Samvat (Margsheersh Shukla Saptami Samvat 2006). There have been calls for the Vikram Samvat to replace Saka as India’s official calendar. The Vishwa Shanti (World peace) Maha Yagna was organised on the eve 17th March and the New Year day 18th March. The celebrations began with a historic Kalash Yatra in the city from Radacliff Square to Roma Street Parklands via King George square. The sounds of blowing conchs and mantras filled Radacliff Square as the Kalash Yatra began, the honour of leading the Yatra was given to Umesh Chandra and Salik Ram Sharma, the main participants of the Kalash Yatra was the ladies who would be taking part in the Maha Yagna. Kalash Yatra is an Indian tradition which signifies the advent of auspicious religious ceremony. It is believed that the Tridevas Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva dwell in the holy Kalash and bless their devotees. Shubh Aarambh of Vishwa Shanti Mahayagya witnessed holding of “Kalash” by the women devotees’ on their heads and proceeding towards Mahatma Gandhi Statue in Roma Street Parkland. It was really a spectacular sight when multitudes of devotees took part in this procession chanting out “Jai Shree Ram” to pay obeisance to Lord Shree Ram ji for this Nav Warsh.
30 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, April, 2018
After the Kalsh Yatra, everyone headed for the specially prepared marquees in Darnley Street Rocklea for the Maha Yagna ceremony. The Yagna Bhumi was prepared in a vacant lot with special Marquees, rows of Hawan Kunds ( fire pits) were set and a stage was specially made for the occasion. It was pleasing to note that not only Hindus but followers of other religions also took part in the Hawan, Councillor Angela Owen and her staff from her office took part in the hawan. Dressed in the sarees, they really looked the part, Councillor Angela Owen, had assisted DJJS with the organisation of Maha Yagna. During her recent visit to India she made a point of meeting DJJS officials in Delhi. Shan Ju Lin from the Taiwanese community also attended the function. Umesh Chandra as the Mc handled the program for the two days. Other organisation such as Hindu Society of Queensland, Laxmi Narayan Mandir, All World Gayatri Pariwar, GOPIO Queensland etc joined in to support the Maha Yagna project. Sanjeev Sharma and his entire team of DJJS Members did a wonderful job of organising the two day event, They were inspired by their revered Guru Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, The program
was spiritually guided by theSadhvi BhavnaNigam Bharti and Sadhvi Sailasha Bharti. Bhajans were sung by very talented Swami Hitendra Anandji. The hawan was formally officiated by two priests specially brought in from India for the occasion; they recited the mantras in perfect harmony and made sure that all the vidhis were observed. Prasad and lunch was served to everyone on both days, DJJS team have already began planning for next year’s Nav Warsh Vishawa Shanti Maha Yagna

Despite many hardships and atrocities committed on the Girmitiyas (Pioneers of indenture labour in Fiji) by overseas Colonial Sugar Refining Company (CSR) of Australia and lack of education and other facilities, they made great sacrifices and with hard work they made significant contributions towards education, maintaining their culture and traditions, building schools, Temples, Mosque, etc., for
their future generations in Fiji. It is for such a vision that today’s third generations are professionals and skilled people in Fiji and who are spread around the world. The celebration will be a token of appreciation to all the pioneers for their sacrifices and achievements which they made towards building a bright future for their generations to come, at the same time working with the local and other communities in building Fiji a multicultural society and have now become a big community of contributors to multicultural country Australia. This festival is about recognising and acknowledging their contributions and commemorating them for their work for their community and the state. The festival will be an extravaganza with stalls, stage shows and children rides. Fiji Senior Citizens Association of Queensland Inc invites all the diverse communities to join the celebration with a slogan ‘Let us honour them, Let us remember them and Let us thank them’

HAPPY EASTER As Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, it is my pleasure to send my warmest wishes to all Australians celebrating Easter. Easter is a time when Christians from all around the world celebrate the resurrection of Christ. It is a time to celebrate new beginnings with traditional church services filled to capacity in the lead up to Easter. According to the 2016 Census more than half of all Australians identify as belonging to a Christian faith tradition. For many Australians it is a welcome time to spend with family and friends but importantly for many it is a time to reflect and participate in the deeply moving and solemn religious traditions and customs which have been handed down for over 2000 years. Across the nation, Easter Sunday is filled with a variety of events bringing together people from all backgrounds and truly showcasing the harmony and goodwill of Australia’s diverse cultures and what it means to be Australian. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and blessed Easter.

Jitu Rai wins gold, Mehuli Ghosh silver; updates
IT WAS a brilliant day for India at Gold Coast last Monday as the country’s medal tally doubled from the previous day in Commonwealth Games 2018. The weightlifting winning streak continued, with Pardeep Singh bagging a silver in the men's 105kg category. Shooter Jitu Rai won gold after defeating Australia's Kerry Bell, while Om Mitharwal bagged bronze medal for India in men's 10m air pistol event. India's overall medal tally stands at 15th at the CWG 2018. A day before, women formed the core of India's stupendous day at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Golad Coast, Australia, where a 16-year-old Manu Bhaker delivered a recordshattering shooting gold medal. The table tennis team, meanwhile, stunned the fancied defending champions Singapore to clinch the top honours for the first time at the event. M C Mary Kom advanced to the medal rounds in her first and probably last appearance at the Games. India held on to their fourth position in the medals tally, having claimed seven gold, two silver and three bronze medals so far. A distant silver-medallist in the event also happened to be a woman — Heena Sidhu for shooting. In weightlifting, again, Punam Yadav (69kg) pulled off a personal best of 222kg to improve the bronze she had won in the 2014 edition, in the process adding another gold to India's haul. In hockey, Indian eves stunned
Olympic champions England in its third pool match for a 2-1 victory, which took them closer to a semifinal berth. India's basketball teams, however, suffered their third consecutive groupstage match loss to exit the 21st commonwealth Games without a win on Sunday. The Indian men lost to Scotland 81-96 while the women lost their third group-stage match to New Zealand 5590 at the Cairns Convention Centre. The women's table tennis team of Manika Batra, Madhurika Patkar and Mouma Das beat Singapore 3-1 for a historic maiden gold. In badminton, Saina Nehwal remained in good form and guided India to a 3-1 triumph over Singapore in the mixed team event. In track-and-field events, shot-putter Tejinder Singh made it to the finals, while Mohammed Anas Yahiya topped his 400m heat to book a slot in the semifinals.
Here are the top 10 developments around Commonwealth Games 2018, India's performance, and schedule for the CWG events: 1. Weightlifting: Pardeep Singh bagged silver in men's 105kg weightlifting. This is India's 13th medal overall at the Games. 2. Shooting: Mehuli Ghosh won silver medal for the Women's 10m Air Rifle Final. Compatriot Apurvi Chandela bagged bronze. The 25-year-old broke her own Games qualification
record of 415.6 she set in Glasgow in 2014. 3. Athletics: Tejaswin Shankar clears 2.21m in his second attempt in Men's High Jump Qualifying Round (Group A) 4. Jitu Rai, Om bag gold and bronze respectively in 10m Air Pistol final: Jitu Rai bagged Gold for India and shooter Om Mitharval equalled the Commonwealth Games (CWG) record on his way to qualifying for the final of the men's 10m Air Pistol event on Monday. Om shot 584 in the qualifying round to equal the meet record set by fellow Indian Samaresh Jung at the 2006 CWG in Melbourne. 5. Gold Coast CWG medal tally after Day 4 competitions: Top-10 positions in the medal tally after Day 4 of the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Sunday. The list is in the order of rank, nation, gold medal, silver medal, bronze medal and total medals. 6. SV Sunil shines as Indian men's hockey team beat Wales: SV Sunil ensured India's victory in the 59th minute and beat Wales 4-3 in a dramatic encounter at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on Sunday. It was a must-win game for India, having drawn 1-1 to Pakistan and losing 0-3 to Malaysia in the previous two Pool B matches. Dilpreet Singh (16), Mandeep Singh (28'), Harmanpreet Singh (57') were the other goal scorers for India. For Wales, Gareth

The family members of the victims had been seeking these details ever since conflicting reports on whether the men were dead or alive had started appearing. President Kovind, PM Modi laud Indians for CWG victory: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday lauded the Indian women's table tennis team for their victory. "Congratulations to the Golden Girls - Manika Batra, Madhurika Patkar, and Mouma Das - for bagging India's first ever Women's Table Tennis Team GOLD at Commonwealth Games. Stupendous achievement," he tweeted. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his "delight" on the achievement. Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said, "A well deserved and historic Gold for the Indian women's Table Tennis team! Congratulations to the team. Delighted at this accomplishment." The Indian women table tennis team staged a winning show on Day 4 of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as they defeated defending champions Singapore 3-1 to claim gold. This is India's first ever gold at the multi-sport event. They had earlier appeared in the finals at the home edition of the Games in 2010, and finished fourth in the Glasgow Games. 8. Mary Kom assured of medal at CWG: On her debut at the Commonwealth Games, World champion M.C. Mary Kom (48kg) booked India a medal in boxing after defeating Scotland's Megan Gordon and advancing to the semifinal at the Gold coast on Sunday. Olympic medallist Mary Kom registered a comfortable 5-0 win over her 18-year-old opponent in the women's 48 kg category at the Oxenford Boxing studios. She will next face Sri Lanka's Anusha Dilrukshi in the last four on April 11. 9. Winless Indian basketball teams exit: India's basketball teams suffered their third consecutive group stage match losses to exit the 21st commonwealth Games without a win on Sunday. The Indian men lost to Scotland 81-96 while the women lost their third group stage match to New Zealand 55-90 at the Cairns Convention Centre. In the boys category, India failed to match the quality and pace of Scotland and got bowed out of the meet. Aravind Annadurai (27 baskets) and Amjyot Gill (26) were the major contributors for India. 10. Sajan fails to qualify for men's 100 butterfly final:

Beauty Tips for Brides To Be Beautiful for the Dream Big Day Nimisha Modi
Hetvi Hair & Beauty 0412 350 013
HEY GIRLY, every bride cherishes a wish to look beautiful and best on the day of her wedding. Wedding outfits, jewellery, makeup and hair must be such that they accentuate the bride’s natural beauty. It is very important for a bride to look pretty and radiant. On the day of wedding, bride is the centre of attraction so she has to put in all efforts to look “The Best”. Not all women are gifted with glowing skin and silky long hair. To them there are bridal beauty treatments that aim at improving the quality of the bride’s skin and hair and involve regular facials and hair treatments. Beauty treatments, for helping the bride look like a dream princess, should start at least 8 weeks before the day of the wedding. Before starting with any beauty care treatment, a cosmetologist should be consulted first to get the complete analysis regarding
present skin conditions that includes acne, any skin problems like skin rashes, blemishes, black heads, moles etc.
Skin and Hair Care Tips for the Bride to be:
Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to stay hydrated. To nourish skin from within, have at least 2 glasses of mint-carrotbeet- tomato juice every day. Avoid very oily food and switch to a regular cleansing- toning and moisturising routine before going to bed. If you are using soap to wash your face, switch over to a face wash which has cold cream content. Sign up with a beauty parlour for a weekly head massage and hair spa treatment. Though costly, this treatment is worthwhile as it is a major de-stressor. It has been seen quite often that brides with short hair attempt to grow their hair before the wedding. If that is the case, do not forget to go in for regular trims to maintain the shape of the hair. Stick to the regular hair and
skin products, including makeup, which you are used to. Try to avoid experimenting with new brands of hair and skin products, just before the crucial day. If you colour your hair, ensure to complete the hair colouring treatment at least a week before the date of the wedding. Before going out in the sun, apply SPF 15 or higher half an hour before to avoid sun damage to the skin. You can increase the consumption of vitamin rich food to add a natural glow to your skin as they helps in warding off the damage causing free radicals from the body. Also you can take fresh oranges or lime water.
Beauty package for wouldbe-bride:
An ideal beauty package includes body cleansers, facial peels, and various hair therapies. Take care of the following tips before starting with any beauty package: Go for deep hair conditioning once a week. Here the beautician will give you a protein hair mask
that you have to apply for half an hour along with oil massage. This helps in in-depth conditioning of your hair. Don’t forget your hands and feet. Go for regular professional manicure and pedicure. Go for body polishing every 10 days. 3 days pre-wedding go for final facial, scrubbing, waxing and body massage. Most important to note is that don’t experiment anything new on the skin. This can lead to disastrous results.
Skin and hair tips for the actual wedding day:
Finish off with your exfoliation and waxing sessions at least 3 days before the wedding. Oil and shampoo your hair, just a day before the wedding. Ensure to condition your hair, to avoid fly away strands. Try out your hair do, after donning your bridal outfit well before the wedding date to avoid last minute harassment. In case of traditional Indian
weddings, the bride wears flowers and ornaments in her hair. Ensure that your wedding make up kit contains plenty of U Pins and clips to keep the hair ornaments and flowers pinned in place throughout the ceremony. The hair do for the after wedding reception should complement the outfit. Keep the hair do simple and easy to manage, particularly if the outfit and jewellery are ornate and heavy. Modern brides aim for a natural, glowing look with makeup. Traditional heavy layered make up in bold colours has given way to light, sheer make up shades. Use of a bronzer instead of blusher lends a natural, glowing look to the makeup. If your wedding is planned in summers, then go for water proof make-up. Red shades of lipstick look good with traditional Indian wedding outfits besides making the teeth look whiter. Hope this helps to bride and to all off us. Have a nice time. See you soon.
Endometriosis explained–what is it?
By Dr Graham Tronc, Specialist at City Fertility Centre Brisbane. (Member of the Endometriosis Care Centre of Australia-ECCA)
ENDOMETRIOSIS is a common female health condition affecting 1 in 10 women worldwide. It occurs when tissue from inside the uterus (womb) called the endometrium, grows outside the uterus. The cause is not absolutely clear, but one of the most likely causes is retrograde menstruation. That is, the – backward flow of menstrual blood (including some of the endometrial cells), through the tubes and into the pelvis. Although this happens in all women, in 10% of the population, (those that get Endometriosis), when those endometrial cells implant on the inside skin, called the peritoneum, and continue to grow, this is called Endometriosis. The ovaries and other abdominal organs, including the bowel can be affected. Researchers, including Professor Grant 40 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, April, 2018
Montgomery from Brisbane, have already discovered several genes that are involved and we frequently see several family members with the condition. Below I will attempt to answer three questions about Endometriosis that my patients commonly ask me.
investigation. Importantly an ultrasound scan is generally not helpful. This is a fact that most GP’s and the general public often fail to understand.
How can I Tell if I Have Endometriosis?
Unfortunately, the presence of severe Endometriosis can result in distortion of pelvic anatomy. This occurs particularly between the tubes and the ovaries and the tubes may become blocked or the actual function of the fallopian tubes may become compromised. In some cases, Endometriosis impacts on a woman’s chances of falling pregnant due to altered egg quality or even ovulation itself. The blood supply to the endometrium may be disrupted and specifically the spiral arteries that supply the endometrium may be narrowed. The effect on fallopian tubes and in turn the transport of the fertilised egg to the uterine cavity from the tube maybe be compromised as well. Obviously some women still fall pregnant without intervention and I guess they are the lucky ones.
At the outset, may I say that the average delay in the diagnosis of Endometriosis worldwide is eight years. Despite the old literature that is still regurgitated, Endometriosis often starts in adolescence. Symptoms may include; but are not limited to:• painful heavy menstrual periods • painful intercourse • period pain generally • pain with ovulation • lower-back pain or pain down the legs • painful bowel movements or pain with urination or frequency at the time of the period • infertility An important fact I always ask about is whether or not the women, when younger, actually had to take time off school or time off work. The very fact that a woman is having trouble falling pregnant may even point to the diagnosis of Endometriosis, if it has not already been found. Although the overall incidence is 10%, in the general population, it is up to 40% in the infertile population. Interestingly, some women who have Endometriosis have no symptoms, and Endometriosis is only diagnosed for the first time at Laparoscopy, performed as one of the diagnostic tools, used for fertility
How can Endometriosis Impact on fertility?
What can be Done About it? Endometriosis can be treated in several ways. How we treat it, depends on the severity of the condition, and whether the primary goal is to treat pain, maximise fertility or indeed both. Surgical Treatment: in my opinion, a Laparoscopy should be the first line of investigation undertaken if the patient presents with symptoms suggestive of Endometriosis. As outlined above an ultrasound scan is of very little if any help. At laparoscopy, modern surgeons no longer burn, zap, or
www.indiantimes.com
“treat” Endometriosis without actually excising (surgically cutting) it. That is to say an area of normal tissue, including the abnormal tissue, must be removed or excised in order to fully remove the abnormal areas of Endometriosis. Failure to do so on the first Laparoscopy will lead to a recurrence of the disease and symptoms. Medical Treatments: Once Endometriosis is excised, medical treatment is then undertaken to supress the periods in order to conserve fertility in women with Endometriosis. I use a group of drugs called GnRH analogues (Zoladex / Synarel) which may be needed up to six months to supress the Endometriosis prior to starting IVF treatment. There are also numerous hormonal medications including Provera, Primolut and the (progesterone impregnated) Mirena IUD. Assisted Reproductive Technology: Sometimes surgical treatment may be enough to allow a couple to conceive, but if that does not help, then initially Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) may be considered and if that fails, then after a few cycles, IVF should be discussed with the patient. Furthermore if the fallopian tubes have been damaged beyond repair or if there is a Hydrosalpinx, (the tubes swollen and filled with fluid) then IUI will not help and IVF is the only course of action.

Property resales continue to show profit despite slower conditions DESPITE a slowing property market, the vast majority of home sales (nine out of 10) in Australia are still turning a profit for their vendors. Across the nation, 91.1% of all properties that resold in the December quarter went for a price above their previous purchase price. The quarterly CoreLogic Pain & Gain report www.corelogic. com.au/paingain tracks home sales across Australia and reveals the proportion of sales being sold at a profit versus those being sold at a loss. Over the three months to December 2017, 91.1% of all properties that resold transacted at, or above, their previous purchase price. The 91.1% figure was up slightly from 90.9% at the end of the third quarter of 2017 but slightly lower than the 91.3% over the final quarter of 2016. CoreLogic recorded a reasonable gap between the proportions of houses reselling for a gross profit; 92.3% of all resales, while 88.2% of all unit resales were at a profit. According to research analyst Cameron Kusher “With property values continuing to increase over the final quarter of 2017, albeit at a more
moderate pace, the proportion of properties resold at a profit has continued to climb.” Profits earned from property resales over this period totalled $17.832 billion. By comparison the resale losses amounted to just $442.0 million in realised losses. The analysis found that the vast majority of the $17.832 billion in profit was generated by Sydney and Melbourne and accounted for 33.1% and 29.4% of total profits respectively. As a comparison, these two cities accounted for just 11.3% and 6.6% of the total value of losses nationally over the quarter. Across the nation, a higher proportion of houses are resold at a profit than units. According to Mr Kusher, this trend was also replicated across the combined capital city and combined regional markets. Sydney was the only region to record a greater proportion of units resold for a profit over the quarter than houses, although Hobart had an equivalent share for houses and units. (refer breakdown in attached report) “Over recent years, value growth for units has
substantially underperformed that of houses, as a result in most regions of the country a higher proportion of houses resold for a profit than units,” Mr Kusher said. In Melbourne, units were almost 10 times more likely to resell at a loss than houses while in Brisbane units were almost 9 times more likely to resell at a loss than houses. In Canberra units were 7.4 times more likely to resell at a loss than houses. For the capital cities, the proportion of houses reselling at a gross profit was higher over the quarter in Brisbane, Adelaide and Darwin but lower elsewhere. For units, there was a higher proportion of resales at a profit over the quarter in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and Canberra. Regional Markets - for the regional housing markets, the proportion of houses reselling for a profit increased over the quarter in Regional NSW, Regional Vic, Regional WA and Regional Tas. For units, profit-making resales increased over the quarter in all regions except for Regional NT.
Property prices on the rise: Report PROPERTY prices ended 2017 on a high with the weighted average median price of the eight capital cities up 1.0 per cent to $769,501, according to the latest research from the Real Estate Institute of Australia. REIA Real Estate Market Facts for the December quarter 2017 showed prices increasing in all capital cities except for Canberra down 2.7 per cent. “The weighted average median price for other dwellings increased 0.6 per cent $590,455 over the quarter, with prices increasing in all capital cities except for Sydney down 0.4 per cent and Darwin sliding 7.4 per cent,” REIA President Malcolm Gunning said. “Hobart had the largest increase in the median price for both houses at 5.2 per cent and for other dwellings at 4.8 per cent,” he said. Over the quarter, median rents for three-bedroom

THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, April, 2018 — 45
Astrology Aries (21st March to 20th April): This month has its own share of ups and downs, confusions and frustrations. However, an urge to do something extraordinary shall provide you positivity and the will to move ahead. This is mainly due to Venus entering Taurus, and now active in your 2nd House. At the same time, it is foreseen that Saturn and Exalted Mars are in your 10th House. This alignment is indicative of a busy schedule at the work front. Career-oriented and job holders will have to work overtime, putting in extra efforts to meet the looming deadlines. If you are a businessman, chalking out plans for business expansion may be on your priority list. As the month progresses, Moon is in the Earth Sign Capricorn, which will bring it to the fore your down-to-earth attitude. You shall feel highly encouraged and confident at this juncture and are willing to give your best shot to any activity/situation that comes by. You may be in the limelight for some or other reason; enjoy while it lasts. Both Sun and Mercury are in your Sign around midmonth; the alignment assures prosperous times. One intelligent decision from your side may fetch you a good amount of money, making you financially stable. As the Moon meets Rahu in the 5th House from your Sign, there is a possibility that you may be tempted to try every possible way to earn money; at times, even the unethical ones. However, such ways may seem easy, but they always bring unhappiness in the end. Moreover, Jupiter, the ruler of your 9th House of luck and fortune, is moving in the retrograde direction. Besides, Saturn is also retrograde currently. There is no point in taking any kind of risk, as of now. Personally, you will be going great guns on the relationship front. Also, your calendar of social-dos is likely to be full, this month. Here, you will get a chance to meet and greet the high and mighty of the society. If you are single, and of a marriageable age, you are likely to face social pressure to ‘hurry up and settle down’, mainly from your parents. Give it a thought; there are chances that you may find someone like-minded to share your joys and sorrows with. Take care of your health; a minor fall or injury is quite likely. Taurus (21st April to 21st May): The month shall begin on an optimistic note, relieving you from miscellaneous stress and tensions. All thanks to the Venus, your Sign ruler, which entered its own House over the last weekend. You shall start working at a good pace and continue throughout the week. However, the onset of the second week, you are likely to be in a belligerent mood. Ganesha uses a word of caution here for the Bulls, especially if you are into business. Mercury is in retrogression, so, if you are planning to sign a new deal or launch a new product line, postpone it temporarily. And signing on the dotted line is a strict no-no as of now. A strong possibility of technical or power failure is foreseen here. The situation for the job-holders and professionals shall be as they are. Let your creativity speak volumes about your work; put in ideas and efforts in your work to get noticed at the workplace. There may be times when you shall be restless, eager to take risks and want to make it big. But, Saturn makes you aware of ground realities and aid in being practical here. As the month progresses, domestic, familial and personal matters become the focus. You may not want to miss a chance to lend support to your near and dear ones. At the same time, self-esteem and self-worth shall be extremely important. If there is animosity brewing between you and your spouse, which is a high probability, try to break the ice and resolve the matter. The ruler of your Sign Venus shifts to the dualnatured, airy Sign Gemini – your 2nd House. This implies positive bearings in areas related to finances and family. A retail therapy and shopping are on the cards too; no wonder your material possessions are likely to increase. This development will have no adverse impact on your wallet; you shall be able to manage the expenses smoothly. Singles may grab a chance to spend some time with the special one and enjoy cosy moments. On the health front, watch each step carefully; a small injury due to fall or accident is quite likely here. Gemini (22nd May to 21st June): Many times, things don’t go the way we want them to. But, we cling on to the hope of a better tomorrow. Don’t get restless if you encounter something similar this month. As two planets having dissimilar influences are moving through the 8th House, luck may be far from favouring you now – health is the most demanding aspect. Minor issues may turn into major ailments if neglected. The overall situation and sudden turn of events may give you sleepless nights. But, it’s important to vent out your stress through exercise or meditation or it may further deteriorate your health. Communication is the key to happy relationships, but the lack of it can cause misunderstandings. If you are married, make sure to share your

thoughts and feelings - good or bad – with your partner. In case of disputes, take a lead and iron out the issues for your own good. You need to be really cautious with your words and actions as disputes and dissatisfactions is likely to continue all through the month. Try to divert your mind to keep away negative thoughts. If you are single, you are so dedicated and committed to your work that you hardly have any time to think about your soul-mate. People in new relationships may be tempted to spend quality time and enjoy physical intimacy. If you are an employee/jobholder, you are likely to be a star performer this month, handling responsibilities quite well at the work front. For businessmen, no fortune-changing event are foreseen, this month. But, small incomes/profits shall keep your business going. However, expect things to change as the month progresses as you will be better placed financially. Sun, which moved into Taurus recently, will now pass through the 12th House from your Sign - along with Venus. This confluence might compel you to spend mindlessly just to match up to those in your social circle. Keep a tab on your expenses, warns Ganesha. Going overboard with spending monies may prove risky in future. Healthwise, you are likely to be in a good shape. Cancer (22nd June to 22nd July): You will kick-start the month with the thought of doing something new and exciting. This feeling is mainly the result of Moon joining retrograde Jupiter in your 5th House. However, be ready to face challenges and hurdles on the path you take up. The fact is, these cannot be avoided. However, the way to deal with such obstacles depends on us. Being calm, composed and optimistic is highly crucial at this juncture. Moreover, Saturn’s retrograde movement around mid-month shall hamper your daily routine – indicating a technical snag, a power-cut or a car breakdown. Take them in your stride as you are bound to overcome them, assures Ganesha. For businessmen, negotiating and roping in valuable customers shall take up most of the time thing month. Deal carefully with your partner in business; avoid getting into arguments on petty issues. Mutual agreement is the best solution in times of dilemma. As an employee of a company, you feel, you are not being made part of the family, which may eventually make you feel uncomfortable and upset. This may prod you to earn money through various other sources. However, refrain from taking up unethical ways. Instead, focus more on familial expenditures which are bound to increase this month. Struggles are foreseen on the personal front too as Saturn and exalted Mars are posited in the 7th House. Complaints and commotion on the home front shall keep the environment disturbed. Try to take the matter in your hand to resolve it amicably. Singles will not have any chance to experience the change in status. Couples eager to become parents may soon hear good news! And if you are a parent already, kids are sure to lift up your spirits. Don’t worry about their academic progress… slow and steady wins the race?! Health may play a spoilsport, if not given required attention. Watch everything that’s on your plate before eating it. That extra dollop of calories can affect your health in the long run. Exercise regularly to stay fit. Leo (23rd July to 22nd August): The month may look tough and challenging as it begins but gradually shall become easy to handle. There is some trouble brewing on the personal front for quite some time now. And you are being blamed of neglecting the family matters. Pay heed before it gets too late. Listen to your loved ones and attend to their needs and requirements at this juncture. Being the core family member, you are the one expected to lend maximum emotional support. And troughs and crests at the home front shall continue for the rest of the month, but you, being a Lion can surely take care of it, provided you put your royal ego aside and give importance to the relationship. Sun, the ruler of your Sign is exalted and is transiting through the 9th House with retrograde Mercury for the company. On the other hand, Venus is in Taurus in the 10th House. Both these planetary positions spell success for businessmen. You may a lucrative business opportunity, but as Mercury is retrograde, you may not be able to clinch it. However, don’t lose heart. Minor gains are indicated in the weeks to come. If you are in a job, you shall have to put in extra hours at work to prove your worth. Don’t give up; keep trying. You may be the next contender for the ongoing promotion or increment cycle, you never know! As of now, the financial front look quite rewarding. Mercury is just out of retrogression, which will aid in filling your coffers at great speed. If you are a single and have a crush on your colleague, you may get lucky this month. Your feelings may be reciprocated in the like manner. Grab your chance to love and get loved; go on long drives, candle-lit dinners and enjoy this phase to the fullest. Ganesha gives green signal to those who are planning to

tie the knot soon. Health, however, needs to be taken care of. Watch your diet and sleeping schedules to avoid complications. Virgo (23rd August to 22nd September): You not only want to improve your financial position but also wish to provide the best facilities and luxuries to your family. In turn, you may be anxious about various ways through which you can enjoy a huge, stagnant inflow of money. However, Mercury in retrogression may be obstructing you from all the rewards and recognition that you deserve. And, you are in no mood to take risks, even though luck is on your side. So, the best thing here is to wait for the right time to strike back. Around mid-month, business and trade are all set to flourish as your expect prosperous times in the weeks to come. For professionals, finally, it seems to be the end of wait and promotion and increment is on the cards. This eventually may lead to increase in work load and over time. Although it is good to keep yourself busy to push ahead your career prospects, don’t let it affect your health – food intake and sleep cycle, to be precise. Things are likely to go awry on the relationship front. Something may seem to be bothering you – your partner’s rude behaviour, negligence, uncooperativeness or lack of commitment. It’s better to pour your heart out and talk with an open mind rather than let the relationship die a silent death. Being a good communicator, you have the art of resolving issues amicably; try it. Happy times are likely to return during the midmonth as you have this strong desire to enjoy the life to the fullest. A short trip to the beach or a picnic over the weekend sounds a good idea! In short, this is just an excuse to spend time and bond with your family; don’t miss it. Love birds may be brimming with affection and dreaming about their D-day! Moon meets Rahu in your 12th House – and both of them get influenced by Mars. This astral picture will make you see things larger than they are. Here, you will go on a shopping spree, and may even over-spend to give your wardrobe a classy makeover. However, keep a check on your purse/wallet. Excess of everything is bad, warn Ganesha. Save some money for health disorders in future as middle-aged are likely to suffer from ailments; be careful. Libra (23rd September to 22nd October): According to the Scales’ typical trait, you try to strike a perfect balance between personal and professional front. As Moon meets Jupiter during the first week of the month, you will be brimming with hope and positivity. But, as Jupiter and Mercury both are retrograde, not much forward movement is foreseen here. That shall not deter you from planning for a happy future. However, it is important to understand that things will be slow-paced initially; be patient. Also, Ganesha advises you to refrain from written or verbal commitments. Going forward, Venus, your Sign ruler, now transits through your 8th House. This movement shall prod you to move out of your comfort zone and take risks. Independent professionals, freelancer or businessman work shall keep you on toes. It’s a good time to travel, explore and take an out-station experience. For businessmen, it’s time to be very cautious. An affair/personal involvement with a colleague is likely to tarnish your image. Blame it on your rival and enemies, who may add fuel to the fire. This too shall pass. Overall, you shall be financially stable. However, don’t give in to the temptation to earn money the unethical way, or you be may be answerable for the adversities that arise. Singles will get a chance to get into a long-term relationship; cash on it before it goes away. In fact, it is a good time to propose your loved one. Those in a committed relationship may be eager to consolidate their relationship and ring the wedding bells. Couples eager to become parents will get a go ahead as planets appear to be more than favourable. In close relationships or friendships, misunderstandings are quite possible at the juncture. Give the other person a benefit of doubt and let go. After all, relationships are more important than anything else. On the health front, middle aged and the ones suffering from chronic diseases must remain careful. With Sun in your 8th House – you must also take care of your safety and well-being. Scorpio (23rd October to 22nd November): You shall enjoy the new-found positivity as the month begins, and you may go all out to achieve your goal – personal as well as professional. This is mainly possible due to Moon, the ruler of your 9th House of luck and fortune, which is transiting through your Sign; it meets Jupiter, which also is in your Sign. However, as both the planets are in the retrograde mode, Ganesha advises you to set realistic goals, rather than build castles in the air, which may just vanish with a poof! Things on the relationship front look quite comfortable and content, especially for the lovers. Love is in the air and soon shall be

transferred on to the wedding cards… Yes! Tying the knot is in the offing. For those who are married, disputes in the family shall take up most of your time and energy. Here, instead of resolving the matter, you choose to stay away from it due to the discomfort you experience – a typical Scorpion trait comes to the fore. Couples who are planning to have a baby may need to visit a gynaecologist for advice. In a neck-deep work and already committed to their office, singles will have no inclination about a new relationship. On the business front, it’s a good time to plan an outstation or overseas trip to rope in new clients and expand the business. However, be vigilant about the steps you take; keep your eyes and ears open. As the month progresses, you may come across some good news about your business prospering with leaps and bounce. In a job, keep a low profile and focus on your work and career prospects. Hone your skills or try to take up some activity that will add to your job profile. Towards the end of the month, Venus transits to Gemini - the 8th House from your Sign. This planetary movement shall prod you to take it easy. On the health front, digestive troubles like acidity shall give you sleepless night; include fibre-rich food like fruits in your diet for a speedy recovery. Sagittarius (23rd November to 21st December): Enthusiasm will be at its peak as the month sets in. A social function or an auspicious ceremony is scheduled here, and hence the cheerfulness. Although expenses are likely to rise, the savings play a big role here, and you will be able to manage it with aplomb. However, refrain from taking any major decision related to finance as of now. If you do not pay heed to this advice now, the taskmaster Saturn is all set to teach you some important lessons on how to handle your money wisely, in the weeks to come. At the workplace, you need to be vigilant about things going around you. Concentrate on your work despite adversaries. Mercury’s retrogression indicates miscommunication; ensure that whatever you say is not misunderstood. Let the time just pass by; things are likely to ease out as the month progresses and you may feel more relaxed. You may feel pride in handling one of the most important tasks at this juncture. This shall slowly, but surely boost your career prospects. In business, make all the transactions and clauses crystal clear to rule out any possibility of misunderstanding. While you are on a lookout for a deal or two that will uplift your business, planets indicate that it is a period of no gains-no loss. So, hang in there. Saturn is placed in Capricorn and moves along with exalted Mars - in your 2nd House of finances and family. There may arise a need to handle the matters maturely and delicately. If you think problems are brewing and taking an ugly turn, discuss with your partner and sort it out. Don’t let the emotional turmoil bog your down. Singles may not be in a mood to either mingle or commit; they may seem to be happy and content with their singlehood, concentrating on a career. For love birds, this shall prove to be a remarkable phase as they may take a major decision to getting married and convincing their parents. On the health front, a chronic illness may relapse at this juncture. Also, those suffering from diabetes and lifestyle diseases shall abide by doctor’s prescription to feel better. Professionals too may have a stressful time at the workplace. The planetary alignment indicates that you may have to face many challenges and hurdle before you successfully complete your latest assignment. Given the planetary position, you may even lose focus on your goals for the time being. However, you will be your usual, ambitious self once the planets regain a favourable position. Capricorn (22nd December to 20th January): To begin with, you are a family person and feel happy and content on seeing your near and dear ones around you. The onset of the month may see a flurry of activities with you indulging in some constructive activities along with your friends, colleagues and family. How ideal! Moreover, Venus has shifted to Taurus, your 5th House, indicating a steep rise in creative activities like painting, writing, dancing and singing. As you enjoy a good financial position at this juncture, you may feel a strong desire to enjoy the pleasures of life, these activities may take up your time, money and energy. Business and trade will require your attention during the mid-week. Think twice before you sign a deal or make any new commitments. The discomfort and impatience are likely to last until the month end. Be shrewd and use your persuasion skills to the maximum while dealing with a tricky person; come what may don’t give in easily. Although work is likely to keep you busy most of the time, you may feel stagnancy creeping in slowly. At times, this feeling may leave you agitated and irritable. On the personal front, things are likely to go awry. Disharmony in personal relations may disturb you. This may not only pollute the home environment but also puncture the
routine. Don’t let the ill-feeling further damage the familial equations; try to make amends with your partner. Find ways to channelize your energy; spending time with kids will bring you happiness. Around 20th, Venus moves into Gemini, the 6th House from your Sign. This indicates love, friendship or heightened social activity specifically on the job front. If you are single, you may get a chance to express your feelings and begin an affair or a new relationship. However, this happens only if you are willing to. Overall, you may be in the pink of health. Don’t let stress and tension take a toll on your health. Relaxation and meditation are the best remedies to soothe your nerves. Aquarius (21st January to 18th February): Entrepreneurs and businessmen may be in for a surprise right at the beginning of the month. Moon is debilitated in your 10th House (of occupation) along with retrograde Jupiter – as the week opens. Venus transits through Taurus - 4th House from your Sign and is in direct opposition to planets in the 10th House. The planetary alignment indicates lucrative returns on the business front. Professional activities too shall get a boost. However, Jupiter and Mercury both are retrograde – so it may take some time before you start enjoying the benefits. Small or big, gains are in the offing all through the month. Take a business trip, if you think, it would do value addition to your business. Meanwhile, at home, you will be eager to give your abode a makeover – redoing and redesigning the interiors. However, you need to plan your finances well in advance as Saturn and exalted Mars in the 12th House may cause some strain on your pockets due to unexpected expenses, which are most likely during the midmonth. Make provision to avoid confusion and borrowing money at the last moment. Money-wise, things may only get difficult as the month progresses. On the personal front, you are likely to be unhappy and grumpy due to strained relations with someone close. Be nice and helpful to them rather than criticising them. Don’t let your anger and ego ruin a beautiful relationship. Your equation with your beloved may be another reason of distress for you. The difference of opinion may cause arguments and friction between you two, towards the end of the month. But, don’t let the disharmony create distance. Be compassionate and considerate, and try to iron out the issues at the earliest. At this juncture, don’t take your health for granted; pay heed to minor troubles or symptoms and listen to your body. See your doctor before it gets too late. An injury due to fall is quite likely; be cautious. Pisces (19th February to 20th March): Social life is likely to take a centre-stage as the month begins. Social functions, get-togethers and soirees may dominate your calendar as of now. Here, it seems to be a good opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. In fact, you may even start networking here, which eventually may prove beneficial for your professional portfolio. Being an entrepreneur, business expansion has been on your mind since long. Take that much-needed business trip that you have been planning for as the planets are now supportive of your endeavours. Go ahead, explore new avenues and rope in new clients; even though it may cause a little strain on your pocket, it may be worth it. On the job front, you may be among the star employees and performers who shall be chosen for a new, important assignment. Hone your skills and make optimum use of the internet to update yourself regarding new information about the subject. As the month progresses, you will focus more on your career and will be seen chalking out plans for the future, sincerely. Encouraging monetary gains may zap you, bringing a smile on your face. However, refrain from taking a major financial decision for now – investing in shares or property may not be a good idea. On the personal front, friends, families and social dos shall keep you occupied. However, equations with your partner will leave you disturbed. Aggressive as you may be, you are likely to belittle their efforts and gestures for you. Watch your temper and words; criticising them too much may hurt them to no extent. Appreciate their deeds for you as they are done out of love and affection. Singles, who are in love, but are shy to confess will have a change of time this month. This seems to be an ideal time to propose your love interest. Finally, you dream of buying a new car or a big house may come true towards the end of the month, as stars are now favouring you. However, doublecheck all the documents before signing any papers. Health though seems to be fine, be careful while taking a stroll or jogging in a park; a fall or minor injury like sprain is a high probability.

Young Sanyasis dedicate life to Service of humanity
By Soma Nair
YOG guru Baba Ramdev Ji created history in Vedic Sanyas ritual by awarding Sanyas and showering his blessings on 92 young men and women who decided to renunciate the worldly routine life in pursuit of Anand and service of mankind. 92 disciples took Sanyasis oath on the auspicious day of Ram Navami on 25th March, 2018. All these young disciples have fulfilled the requistes and have been given full training in the way of life of a hermit/ sanyasi. Patanjali yogpeeth at Bhadrabad,Haridwar has become synonym with service and Baba Ramdev ji has spread Yoga all over the world. All these budding sanyasis have come from different states of India and have different family
backgrounds. The one thing common in them is their desire to serve the humanity. The young Sanyasis are IT graduates and engineers. One young disciple said that she had been studying at yog gram for the past five years. “ I was so impressed by Swami Ram Dev ji’s simple and noble life that I decided to follow him. The call had come from with in.” ‘It may be the karmas of previous lives,’told another. “I could get married, have kids, but what next.? I have a wider and bigger family now” The two had been fasting for 21 days with Baba Ramdev Ji. Yajna was performed and all the vedas were recited from 20th March till 25th March .The ceremony was completed on the day of Ram Navami at Har Ki Paudi ,VIP Ghat, Haridwar. Ram Navami is the day when Yog Guru Baba
Ram Dev took Sanyas, 23 years ago. All 92 young Brahmcharis took a dip in holy Ganges. The heads of young male Brahmacharis had already been shaved. Only symbolic mundan was carried out at the ghat. Baba ji wanted to maintain the dignity of ‘ clean Ganga movement’ Acharya Bal Krishan ji said ,”Sanyas is the beginning of the revival of Indian Culture of service of mankind” Sadhvi Ritambhra and Swami Satyamitranand ,Jagadguru of Sutur math of Karnataka and Swami Prem Vivekanand were also present at the ceremony. It was very touching to see parents and siblings of the Sanyasis who wilfully give away their young daughters and sons for the service of mankind. The young sanyasis changed into saffron clothes the likes
of which they will wear for the rest of their lives. Parents had tears in their eyes. It was not easy for them to imagine that their sons and daughters will not come back to them henceforth. They were worried about the hardships that they might face in their chosen lives. Parents had seen the huts in which their beloved daughters and sons had been living to become familiar with the hardships of life. The bidding Sanyasis had bults the huts themselves and had survived on very simple vegetarian diet It is commendable that their Guru Swami Baba Ramdev ji also lived in a similar hut to be one with them. He also observed the fast with them. Yog Guru Baba Ramdev ji announced that he has a dream of preparing 1000 more sanyasis. It was my utmost pleasure to witness the whole ceremony.

BOLLYWOOD & ENTERTAINMENT Bollywood star Salman Khan granted bail after poaching conviction

THE Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been granted bail by a Rajasthan court on a poaching conviction that led the superstar to be sentenced to five years in prison this week. Khan, 52, was convicted on Thursday of illegally hunting two blackbucks, a protected species of Indian antelope, while shooting a film in Jodhpur city in 1998. The veteran actor, who earned $37m last year, spent Thursday and Friday night in Jodhpur central jail awaiting a bail hearing after lodging an appeal against the conviction. The release was granted on Saturday afternoon with a 500,000-rupee (£546) bond and the same amount as surety, and Khan was taken by police escort to Jodhpur airport. Some of the actor’s often-obsessive fans celebrated the bail decision outside the court with firecrackers, while a crowd gathered outside his home in Mumbai’s Bandra neighbourhood to await his return. The poaching allegations have dogged Khan for two decades since a complaint was lodged against him by members of the Bishnoi community – a Hindu sect that worships blackbucks as the reincarnation of the 14th-century guru. A member of the community alleged that on the outskirts of Jodhpur in September 1998 he saw headlights and heard gunshots near his home. When he went to investigate he saw car fleeing the scene and two dead

blackbucks. He wrote down the registration, which police allege belonged to a car driven by Khan. Four other actors who were also allegedly in the vehicle were acquitted of the poaching charges on Thursday for lack of evidence. Khan was convicted of the same crime in 2006, but the sentence was suspended a year later and the charges relaid in 2008. He has long maintained he did not kill the animals and in fact had helped to feed them. He argued there was no evidence they hd died of unnatural causes and that he had been framed by forestry officials “for publicity”. Controversy has dogged the actor throughout his career. In 2002 his former partner, Aishwarya Rai, accused Khan of verbal and physical abuse – accusations he has denied. The same year he was arrested in a hitand-run case in which a homeless person died but was acquitted in 2015. An appeal to his acquittal is being heard in the supreme court. Khan’s legal troubles may have contributed to a lull in his career in the mid-2000s, but industry experts say his bad-boy image is a key factor in the devotion he commands from his largely young male fan base. The next hearing in the poaching case is 7 May when Khan will ask for the sentence to be formally suspended.
Meera stage production “Diversity and inclusion, which are the real grounds for creativity, must remain at the center of what we do.” ~Marco Bizzarri 15th march and 18th march 2018, we witnessed a beautiful congregation of some of the very hard working community members from the Gold Coast and Brisbane region at events that were sponsored by very generous Mr Shridhar Penny, owner of Saffron Indian Gourmet Restaurants in Broadbeach, Gold Coast and Coorparoo, Brisbane in support for our ambitious and exciting stage production MEERA, which is to be premiered on the 4th November 2018 at the HOTA ( The Arts Centre), Gold Coast. Love, encouragement and support that team MEERA received was a very heart-warming experience. “Art, freedom and creativity will change society faster than politics.” ~ Victor Pinchuk The strength of togetherness and oneness, the power of creativity and passion, the intensity of clear vision and energy of persistent focussed actions were very evidently felt, captured and enjoyed on 25th March 2018 at our grand event of Photo shoot and Video shoot for the entire performing cast – crew from MEERA. It all started on a Sunday morning at 5am with a makeup team of 16 hardworking, talented makeup artists. Along with skilful, proficient photographers. Brilliant, adroit, consummate team of videographers (Film and TV crew from the Bond University) along with erudite, diligent, untiring team from Bond University Transformer

department. All supported and smoothly executed by a sea of generous, gracious art loving volunteers. It sounds unreal, but 100 performers, makeup, costumes, photos, videos, interviews all happened that morning with a big smile on each one’s face. That is what I call it as power of creativity and art. As Elizabeth Gilbert eloquently explained, “Creativity itself doesn’t care at all about results - the only thing it craves is the process. Learn to love the process and let whatever happens next happen, without fussing too much about it. Work like a monk, or a mule, or some other representative metaphor for diligence. Love the work. Destiny will do what it wants with you, regardless.” We experienced the magic of William Pollard strong words, “Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable” on 26th March 2018, when we released our early bird tickets for production MEERA, and within 3 hours all the first release of premium tickets was SOLD. “Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen... yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.” Bradley Whitford Aarti Bajaj, CEO, Wild dreamer Productions
