Wayne Swan delivers budget

FAMILIES will benefit from a surprise package of boosts to handouts and welfare payments that will help cushion household budgets in the lead-up to the 2013 election. The Treasurer has risked the wrath of businesses by shelving cuts to company tax funded by the mining tax but attempted to shift the blame to Tony Abbott for refusing

to support the measures in Parliament. Mr Swan has vowed to spread the benefits of the mining boom by funnelling cash into low and middle-income earners to give them "a stake in that prosperity". As Julia Gillard comes under pressure to turn around the ongoing slump in Labor's support, her Government has turned to its

traditional base with a series of handouts aimed at parents, jobseekers and students. The election year handouts will come on top of promised tax cuts and welfare boosts designed to limit the impact of the carbon tax. Continued page 6

From the Publisher MAY madness that is an under statement for things around here, and it only the beginning. Well first of all I would like to thank Trudi Tarres for all her efforts in putting Umesh Chandra together The Commonwealth Bank and Brisbane Indian Times Multicultural Business and Community Awards night 2012. Please refer to separate article on the awards night for the full acknowledgement of all who were involved. We are a bit short staffed in the office at the moment and Trudi has worked tirelessly under pressure to deliver an outstanding result. Now a bit on the political scene, with all the elections out of the way the newly elected representatives are settling in their new roles, there are quite a few challenges ahead on the Federal level, the Carbon Tax, the mining resources Tax, Peter Slipper and Craig Thomson scandals, the move towards budget surplus, Asylum seekers and many more. State government is facing challenges in the Health payroll debacle, the unused Train line costing millions of taxpayer’s dollars. The local government has been told that the airport link will now open to public in August and not end of June as had been originally planned, residents are furious over the delay and are sick and tired with the noise and dust. Internationally Europe is posing a major threat to world financial markets, Greek, Paris and Moscow trouble everywhere, job losses continue, business across the board from small to large are all suffering and

Inside

feeling the cash flow financial pressures, so not only is the government looking at providing a budget surplus by cutting costs, so are the business, who are cutting costs to remain in business, one would argue that cutting staff is not the way forward, the reality is that in many businesses the labour component is the highest cost. It all boils down to affordability. Banks have become very tight with their lending, and many people who would have previously qualified for a home loan are being rejected, mortgagee in possession sales are increasing, when a household has two income earners contributing towards a mortgage, things are generally ok, trouble starts when one loses a job. I just briefly wanted to touch on the above subjects, obviously they are pretty broad based covering a wide variety of situations, the message is that tough economic times are here for a long stay, they are not going anywhere in a hurry, so plan ahead and spend wisely or should I say miserly . Congratulations to many event organisers who have put on great events, many of the reports are featured in this issue, special congratulations to Dipak Amratlal and his Soni Samaj Brisbane committee for a wonderful “Sneh Milan” in Brisbane, a job well done. It is no secret that I attend a lot of functions and I have noticed that the standards of most of function have improved significantly. As always we have welcomed submissions from all community organisations for their events, individuals are also welcome to submit newsworthy articles within our editorial guidelines. Until Next month Happy Reading Umesh Chandra

Ensure Mum gets the break she deserves this Mother’s Day THIS Mother’s Day as we approach the peak mid-year travel period, Smartraveller is urging Australians to put the safety of their loved ones first and make smarter travel decisions, no matter if they’re travelling for leisure or to visit friends and family overseas. The number of Australians encountering unexpected strife overseas continues to climb, with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) fielding 201,660 requests for consular assistance in 20102011, up from 186,235 the year before. This includes over 1200 hospitalisations, 1142 deaths and 28 medical evacuations of Australians to another location. “DFAT urges Australians to make Smartraveller an integral part of planning and booking trips overseas,” said Paula Ganly, Assistant Secretary for Consular Policy. “Mother’s Day is a good reminder to make the necessary preparations to protect those we love in the lead-up to the peak mid-year travel period. “No-one wants to become a burden on their families if they get into difficulty overseas and have not taken adequate precautions,

like insurance.” To ensure holiday makers have a safe and enjoyable mid-year break, Smartraveller recommends registering travel itineraries on www.smartraveller.gov.au, subscribing to travel advice updates and taking out appropriate travel insurance. “Travel insurance is crucial to protect yourself and your family while overseas, especially where medical expenses are concerned,” Ms Ganly said. “In the scheme of things, travel insurance is a small additional holiday expense when compared to the potential costs of an accident.” According to Smartraveller, hospital costs in Southeast Asia regularly exceed $800 a day, the return from Europe of remains of family members who have passed away can be in excess of $10,000, and medical evacuations from the United States range from $75,000 to $95,000, and sometimes reach as high as $300,000. The Department has even handled medical evacuations from Bali where costs have exceeded $60,000. For more information about Smartraveller and DFAT’s consular role, visit www.smartraveller.gov.au.

Recent news about Australian Migration Regulations GSM Update: Onshore SC885/886/487 Applications Open until 31/12/12 Important Dates to Remember: * Introduction of SkillSelect and new points tested skilled migration visas will be from 1 July 2012, applicants both in and outside Australia may lodge an EOI through SkillSelect for Subclasses 189, 190 or 489. * From 1 July 2012, points tested skilled migration visas granted outside Australia (Subclasses 175, 176 and 475) will be closed for new applications; and * From 1 January 2013, points tested skilled migration visas granted in Australia (Subclasses 885, 886 and 487) will be closed for new applications. Applicants will still have until 31 December 2012 to lodge onshore applications under these categories (hence skills select for onshore applicants will not commence until 1 January 2013) This information “is a guide only and is subject to a legislative change process. More information will be available closer to 1 July 2012.” New Skilled Migration Subclasses The main subclasses will be as follows: * Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa: This is a permanent visa replacing the Skilled - Independent Subclass 175 and 885 visas. * Skilled - Nominated (Subclass 190) Visa: A permanent visa replacing the Skilled - Sponsored Subclass 175 and 886 visas. This option requires nomination by a State or Territory Government. * Skilled - Nominated or Sponsored (Provisional) (Subclass 489) Visa: A 3year provisional visa replacing the Skilled - Regional Sponsored Subclass 475 and 487 visas. It requires sponsor-

ship by a relative living in a Designated Area or by a State or Territory Government. SkillSelect Only Visas The new visas can only be applied for through the SkillSelect system. DIAC will then select people from the EOI pool and invite them to apply for a skilled visa. Under the current system, it is possible to apply directly for General Skilled visas. This has advantages for applicants such as: * Immediate access to bridging visas for onshore lodgement * Higher degree of certainty of receiving a visa once passing skills assessment and meeting English and work experience requirements Skilled Occupations List A new Skilled Occupations List for Skilled - Independent visas will be released on 1 July 2012 however at this point we do not anticipate significant changes. The same list will most likely apply where sponsored by a relative for Skilled - Nominated or Sponsored (Provisional) Subclass 489 visas. The occupations list for applications nominated by a State or Territory Government will be changed from 1 July 2012. The list will be the same as the list for Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) and 457 visas and will be referred to as the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL). It is likely that this list will include a wide range of ANZSCO occupations at skill levels 1 to 3, and this may result in more opportunities for state-nominated applicants. Recent Work Experience/Study in Australia Under the current model, to be eligible for skilled migration applications are required to satisfy either: * Show that they have worked in skilled employment for at least 12 of the last 24 months; or * Have completed 2 years of study in

Australia within the 6 months prior to application Under the new subclasses applicants will not be required to satisfy any of these because applicants may be in the SkillSelect system for up to 2 years before receiving an invitation to apply for skilled migration. Points Test No further information has been received from DIAC about the proposed points test changes from 1 July 2012. To receive an invitation, applicants must meet the pass mark for the skilled migration points test. Quotas will apply for each occupational category, the mark required to receive an invitation may be higher or lower depending on the occupation. Onshore/Offshore Lodgement Under the new skilled model, the new visa subclasses can either be lodged onshore or offshore, and there is only one subclass for each visa type (eg for Skilled - Independent we have subclass 189 which can either be lodged onshore or offshore). In order to lodge onshore under the new system, you must hold either a substantive visa (eg student visa, 457, visitor visa) or a Bridging A or B visa. This will advantage many applicants who can lodge onshore - in particular, students may be able to lodge their applications ahead of completion of their studies, and 457 visa holders can apply onshore for general skilled visas for the first time. If you are able to lodge onshore then you would receive a bridging visa allowing you to remain in Australia during processing of your application. Including Family Members after Lodgement For the current General Skilled Subclasses, it is only possible to include family members after lodgement in certain circumstances. Continued page 6

Wayne Swan delivers budget Continued from front page The election year handouts will come on top of promised tax cuts and welfare boosts designed to limit the impact of the carbon tax. More than 1.5 million households will be given boosts of up to $600 a year to their Family Tax Benefit A payments, which come on top of new upfront payments of up to $820 a year for those with children in high school. Commentators say that there is no guarantee that this hand out will actually be used for school fees by the recipients. Welfare recipients will benefit from boosts of $350 for couples and $210 for singles from 2013. "We understand the pressures Australians face, paying for electricity, housing, groceries, petrol or even a simple family outing," Mr Swan said last night (May 8). Dumping the company tax cuts will save $4.7 billion over the next four years. This has been highly criticised by Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The only new measure for struggling businesses is the ability to

"carry back" losses and claim deductions against taxes paid the previous year. This measure will only benefit those businesses that make a loss and will cost a fraction of the amount saved by dumping the company tax cuts - $714 million over the next four years. Mr Swan said he had gone to "exhaustive lengths" to convince the Opposition to back the cuts. Mr Swan denied he was taking promised funds off businesses to buy back votes from Labor's heartland. The National Broad Band has been left off the budget; this would have had a significant overall effect Budget in a nutshell Basics * $1.5 billion surplus in 2012/13 * GDP growth of 3.25 per cent in 2012/13 * Net debt to peak at 9.6 per cent of GDP * Unemployment forecast for 5.5 per cents * Tax-free threshold tripled from $6000 to $18,200 from July 1 * $3.6 billion from mining tax

redirected to families and small businesses Families * Up to $600 a year extra for those receiving Family Tax Benefit A * Supplement of up to $210 a year for single students, jobseekers, parents with young children and those on income support. Couples to receive an additional $350. * Up to $820 a year for high school students and $410 for primary school students direct to families Business * Business able to offset tax losses of up to $1 million against tax paid in previous years * Small business allowed to immediately write-off every eligible asset they buy for less than $6500 Health and disabilities * $1 billion over four years for the National Disability Insurance Scheme NDIS to cover 10,000 people from 2013/14 and 20,000 from 2014/15 * $515 million for immediate public dental care * $346 million over three years

Recent news about Australian Migration Regulations Continued from page 4 FOR instance, it is not possible to include partners if lodging for onshore visa subclasses such as 885. However, the new visa subclasses allow family members to be included after lodgement - even for onshore applications. Processing of Priority Group 5 General Skilled Migration Applications Most General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa applications are subject to a Ministerial Direction which determines the priority in which they are considered. Applications are allocated to a case officer for processing based on the priority of an application according to the Direction. Each week the two GSM processing centres (Adelaide and Brisbane) allocate the highest priority applications on hand before the next highest, until there are sufficient applications allocated in each of the visa categories to meet the planning levels set by government in the 2011-12 Migration Program. Each week approximately 1000 priority affected cases are allocated to case officers. Cases are allocated based on their priority group and whether they were lodged in or outside Australia. From 1 July 2011, processing priorities

(with highest priority listed first) are: 1. applications from people who are employer sponsored under the RSMS program or who have applied for a Skilled – Regional (subclass 887) visa 2. applications from people who are applying under the ENS program 3. applications from people who are nominated by a state or territory government agency for an occupation specified on that agency's state migration plan 4. applications from people who have nominated an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) – Schedule 1 in effect from 1 July 2011 5. all other applications In Australia (Onshore Applications) Allocation of applications lodged in Australia is currently made up of all available applications from Priority Groups 1, 3 and 4. If there are any remaining places available, then Priority Group 5 cases will be allocated. There are no GSM applications in Priority Group 2. The department commenced allocating Priority Group 5 applications lodged in Australia in November 2011. As at 13 April 2012, all clients who lodged their application before 5 January 2009 have been contacted by their case officer. A

further 21,471 Priority Group 5 cases are awaiting allocation. Outside Australia (offshore Applications) Allocation of applications lodged outside Australia is currently made up of all available applications from Priority Groups 1 and 3. If there are any remaining places available, then generally Priority Group 4 cases will be allocated. There are no GSM applications in Priority Group 2. As at 13 April 2012 there were approximately 1840 Priority Group 4 cases lodged outside Australia awaiting allocation. A further 14 914 Priority Group 5 cases are also awaiting allocation. Processing arrangements for Priority Group 5 Allocation of Priority Group 5 applications lodged outside Australia has commenced with applications in state sponsored GSM visa subclasses currently being allocated in the order they were received. Allocation of state sponsored cases ahead of the remaining Priority Group 4 applications lodged outside Australia is due to there being a lower than anticipated number of applications lodged this program year under a State Migration Plan (Priority Group 3). This allocation includes applications in visa subclass 495 which, was not affected by the Minister’s Cap and Cease arrangements, unlike other GSM applications lodged out-

www.indiantimes.com.au

side Australia prior to 1 September 2007. GSM has also limited the allocation of Skilled Australian Sponsored cases lodged in and outside Australia due to there being a low number of available visa places remaining this program year. Skilled Australian Sponsored applicants in both Priority Groups 4 and 5, whose applications are yet to be allocated to a case officer will be affected. The allocation of Priority Group 5 applications lodged outside Australia is expected to continue in general date of lodgement order throughout the 2012-13 Migration Program year in line with available Migration Program places in the specific GSM visa categories. The overall number of Priority Group 5 applications processed in any program year will ultimately depend on the number of higher priority applications received, and other factors, including the size of the Migration Program and its composition, and any variation of the Processing Direction. Many Priority Group 5 applicants still face a considerable wait until their application is allocated to a case officer for processing and may want to consider other options available. Skilled American workers to fill labour shortages The Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Bowen MP, and the United States Ambassador to Australia, Jeffrey Bleich, have announced priority measures to assist linking Australian employers with skilled workers in the US to fill skill shortages in key sectors. Demand for skilled construction workers will peak over the next three to five years as a number of resource projects are due to commence there is significant potential to match the demand with the potential supply of workers in the US. This will allow workers from the US in licensed occupations, such as electricians and plumbers, to be granted immediate access to provisional Australian licenses on arrival (i.e. skills assessment process will assure Australian employers how the skills of US workers align with their needs). Under the current regulations, such workers need to be assessed onshore which can require applicants waiting months between entry and starting work. Under the new skills assessment process, US workers will be assessed against Australian regulatory requirements before entering Australia, providing certainty to applicants and employers.

The spirit of ANZAC Day 2012 By Peter Lane Rai Photographs by Joanne Lane Rai ANZAC Day, April 25th, is considered by many Australians as the most important day of the year. It is the time when the nation stops to remember not only the first ANZACs who landed at Gallipoli in 1915 but all Australian soldiers who have given their lives or served in the endless conflicts across the world and those currently on military service in Afghanistan, Iraq, PNG or the Solomon Islands. The ANZAC Day parade at Toowong RSL Memorial Park Sylvan Road was lead by 13 veterans of World War 2 and other conflicts, followed by the Queensland University Regiment and finally local cubs and scouts. The parade arrived at the park to the applause of the crowd the singing of birds

and the noise of passing trains and planes. For the approximately 300 people, including myself ,who had come to the 45 minute ANZAC Day service and parade, it was a time of quiet self reflection to; * Remember those who sacrificed their lives in the cause of freedom. * Be reminded that since ANZAC Day 2011, 12 more Australian soldiers have died in conflicts. * Recognize that many returned soldiers are still both psychologically traumatized or

physically damaged by their war time experiences. As well, their loved ones have been badly affected. It was amazing that many of the crowd of men, women and young children, who had arrived by car, on foot or cycle with possibly no spiritual beliefs or rarely attend reli-

gious meetings participated in prayer, songs and a Bible reading in the service lead by the Regiments' Chaplain. This was a fitting tribute to honour the spirit of the ANZAC - that of sacrifice and mateship. May it live on.

Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Qld - VED Prachaar 2012 By Jitendra Deo President VED Prachaar programme in Queensland was organised by Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Queensland from March 30th to April 5th 2012. Girmit Night a huge success - Mother of compassion Australian tour A despite heavy rain By Sarat Maharaj MANAGEMENT of International Congress for Fiji Inc (ICFI) were a little concerned that their Live Musical Stage Show held on Saturday 28 April 2012 may not have a good attendance. But, the generous public braved heavy rain and attended “Girmit Night 2012” in full force. We are indeed thankful to everyone who made the effort, and also those people who donated their ticket money. Outside it was a bit wet, but the atmosphere inside the hall was very different. It was nice and cosy, especially after a sumptuous meal which many went back for seconds, and even thirds. Delicious food and entertaining music are always a good attraction for our ardent supporters to commemorate the essence of ‘Girmit’, that is, to provide much-needed education for the poor. Music lovers of all ages were glued to their seats, as our singers and musicians presented numbers ranging from the oldies of 1960s to the fast numbers of today. With the introduction of modern technology, Live Indian Music is a rare treat. This is one annual event people don’t want to miss. For our remote audience, Radio Brisvaani 1701AM did a direct broadcast. Why all the hard work throughout the year for just one evening of entertainment? Funds raised from this Annual Girmit Night

are used to pay school fees for needy students in high schools across Fiji. International Congress for Fiji Inc has been providing cash funding to students in year 11, 12, & 13, Vocational, and Diploma Level in Fiji National University for the past none years. So far, we have funded 7,500 students in the amount of $840,000.00. Last year alone, we funded 1,400 students in the amount of $145,000.00. To celebrate our 10th Anniversary, this year we are targeting to reach One Million Dollars - $1,000,000.00 worth of school fees for needy students. This sort of money is as a result of most musicians donating their time and effort for free, and providing professional sound equipment. Donations from Business Houses, Individuals, Community Organisations, and from Members of International Congress for Fiji Inc contribute to these large sums of money. There is no administration cost taken out of money raised from the general public. All travel costs and other overheads are paid by individual members of ICFI. Because of severe flooding in Fiji earlier this year, we will need a lot more money to help these students. Many have lost their income-generating farms, schools have been inundated, and students’ houses destroyed. We request people to please continue to donate cash toward this project. For information on how to donate please send an email to regmaharaj@gmail.com.

ustralia was most fortunate to have prominent spiritual and humanitarian leader Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (or commonly known as “Amma”) visit Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast from April 12th to the 24th. There were a number of free public programs and two paid retreats. All events were a great success with many thousands attending all of the events. The Brisbane free public programs took place at the RNA Auditorium in Fortitude Valley and the Gold Coast retreat took place at the Outrigger Hotel at Surfer’s Paradise which was also followed by a free public program. Amma gave her exceptional insight through a public address followed by devotional singing and provided spiritual comfort by way of individual blessing and embrace to attendees. Amma has shared her life in this way with over 30 million people around the world - bringing joy and relief into many lives. The charitable world has also benefitted greatly from Amma’s compassion, with significant financial disaster relief contributions exceeding $50 million US. Her charitable contributions include disaster relief to the 2004 Asian Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina

and recently the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Her charitable organization, ‘Embracing the World’ operates orphanages in Haiti, Kenya and India, and conducts many ongoing free healthcare, education and community service projects around the world. In 2005, the United Nations (UN) recognized Amma’s humanitarian contributions by granting her Special Consultative Status for economic and social council and coordination. They also awarded her the Gandhi-King Award for Non-Violence in 2002. Amma has been a keynote speaker at many global events including the Parliament of World Religions, United Nations General Assembly World Peace Summit and Interfaith Summit of the Global Initiative of Women. Amma was welcomed at the Brisbane program by the Mrs Archana Singh, Honorary consul of India for Queensland (pictured bottom right) and Mr Umesh Chandra, President of Queensland Multicultural Council. Minister Bowen visits India and Sri Lanka THE Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Bowen MP, departed from Australia on 30 April for a visit to India and Sri Lanka to enhance cooperation on border management activities and promote recent changes to Australia’s skilled migration program. “I look forward to deepening Australia’s relationship with both India and Sri Lanka through beneficial discussions on a range of issues of importance to our countries,” Mr Bowen said. Mr Bowen visited New Delhi from 30 April to 2 May, where he discussed migration arrangements and reaffirmed the importance Australia places on its longstanding bilateral relationship with India. “India is now one of Australia’s largest and growing sources of general skilled migrants and students,” Mr Bowen said. “This visit is particularly timely, given the implementation of the Knight Review of student visas and India’s place as the second largest source of international students in Australia.” The minister then visited Sri Lanka from 2 May to 4 May to conduct talks on irregular migration and migration

reforms. “Australia will continue working closely with Sri Lanka on issues relating to people smuggling, including preventing and disrupting people smuggling ventures by air and sea,” Mr Bowen said. “We appreciate Sri Lanka’s ongoing cooperation in the area of people smuggling, in particular its new people

smuggling legislation which will work to promote regular migration avenues for Sri Lankan nationals.” The visit also provided an opportunity for the minister to outline changes to the general skilled migration program and the completion of the Knight Review with his Indian and Sri Lankan counterparts.

Local members lend a helping hand THE welfare shop run by Janeth Deen stopped trading on 31st January. Since that time Janeth Deen has been packing goods for containers for flood ravaged Fiji. She has had to retain the shop to carry out this work which is now coming to an end. Very little help came her way until Monday 30th April when members of the Liberal Party turned up at her shop with a team of volunteers. Kim Marx, the newly elected member of the Quirk Team, Brisbane City Council member for Stretton and her husband Derek and her team manager Heidi were accompanied by Freya Ostapovitch, the State

Member of Stretton and her husband Don. All came to help clean up the shop and take rubbish to the dump. Janeth Deen was overwhelmed by the generosity of these two women who have worked so hard to gain election and commented, "if this is any indication of the effort they are willing to employ to let the community know they are keen to put the maximum effort into their electorate, they are sure to hold their heads up high and gain respect and support. It must be noted also that the welfare shop is situated in Logan, so they also went out of their way to help a charity who helped Queenslanders."

• Janeth Deen, Kim Marx, Freya Ostapovitch and Heather Robinson.

The Queensland Muslim Welfare Association Inc. has now closed its doors and Janeth Deen will still work in the welfare field through her Trusteeship of the Muslim Charitable Foundation who is now the major Muslim Welfare Association in

Queensland. The welfare shop was under the wing of MCF and is no longer necessary due to the establishment of the Muslim Charitable Foundation who are active in their welfare role.

USS Halsey visits Brisbane

By Umesh Chandra IT'S not often one is granted access to look inside a working naval vessel - especially one that doesn't belong to us. But that's what we got to do on Friday 4th of May, not only did we enjoy a cordial reception we got the first hand experience of good spirited American hospitality. I attended the reception with and by the kind courtesy of, Janeth Deen. USS Halsey is paying a visit to Brisbane for the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Coral Sea. Sailors assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG 97), stood in ranks during a ceremony in honour of the men and women who served during the Battle of Coral Sea in World War II. U.S. Sailors were in attendance at the ceremony in honour of the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Coral Sea at Port of Brisbane, Fisherman’s Islands in Brisbane Australia. Newly elected Queensland Treasurer, Tim Nicholls, Councillor Angela Owen Taylor, State Leader of opposition Annastacia Palaszczuk, many historians and Museum curators etc were in attendance. It was hard to believe that the ship housed two helicopters, we delightfully took up the offer of a guided tour, this was an eye opener, it was overwhelming for me to see first the sophisticated equipment, what got me was how everything was stacked away neatly from floor to ceiling, no a single inch of space was wasted. Walkways were narrow and many areas cramped. I toured with Treasurer Tim Nicholls and Councillor Angela Owen Taylor. The food was tastefully and artistically displayed and served, though no direct orders were given everything worked to military precision during the reception. The service delivery with a smile, the neatly dressed sailors in their white suits, the ambiance, the food and the drinks made the overall experience memorable. This is one side of military personell I had not experienced before, though I have been on battle ships before. A special cake was cut by Mascot “Bull” to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of

ATO warns investors about Muslim Charitable Foundation continue to send relief to Fiji tax avoidance schemes Courtesy Sudesh Aggarwal THE ATO today (May 1, 2012) warned taxpayers to steer clear of tax avoidance schemes as they prepare to lodge their 2012 tax returns. "It is at this time of year we see an increase in the number of tax avoidance schemes being promoted," Tax Commissioner Michael D'Ascenzo said. “Modern tax schemes can be very sophisticated and may masquerade as complex investments or other arrangements that can appeal even to experienced investors.” Just like genuine investments, these schemes might promise you 'wealth creation' or financial security. Others can exploit your social or environmental conscience by promising you large up-front tax deductions for donations to charity or 'green initiatives'. Many are marketed via social media or glossy promotional brochures, with offers of exclusivity and the stamp of approval from so-called 'experts'. "As appealing as an investment opportunity may sound, sometimes the promised tax benefits might not be available under the law," Mr D'Ascenzo explained. If you're considering entering into an arrangement that will affect your tax liabilities, it's important to carefully investigate and understand the tax consequences before

making your investment decision. Not getting the right information and advice can lead to a large tax debt, including substantial penalties and interest. "Doing your research and seeking independent financial and tax advice from someone not involved with the arrangement before investing is your best protection against promoters of tax avoidance schemes, or alternatively you can make an enquiry with the ATO," Mr D'Ascenzo advised. To help taxpayers, the ATO has partnered with Paul Clitheroe, Chairman of the Federal Government’s Consumer and Financial Literacy Taskforce and respected financial commentator, to produce a YouTube video which highlights the pitfalls of getting caught in a tax avoidance scheme and provides some helpful tips for taxpayers. The ATO website also has information about some of the more common tax schemes and emerging arrangements in easy-to-understand language. It also provides information on what people can do if they've been caught up in a scheme. "Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is," Mr D'Ascenzo said. Kuraby Mosque and one from the Gold Coast Mosque. Two containers were sent to Latouka and one to Suva. The goods were donated by the community through the Mosques and the welfare shop. Food and clothing were major contents of the containers as well as books for the schools and household items. All thanks must be extended to all those who so generously donated, money, goods and time to help MCF carry out this most urgent work to relieve the suffering of those affected by the floods. MCF is still in need of funds to help the local community as many people are feeling the rising cost of renting houses, electricity and other living expense. Chilean analysts see higher Telstra Safe Social gives parents copper prices in 2012 control of kids’ online safety ™

SANTIAGO, May 4 (IANS/EFE) The average price of copper in 2012 will come in at $3.84 per pound, according to a score of analysts surveyed by the Chilean Copper Commission, or Cochilco. That forecasted price is up by $0.22 relative to a November 2011 poll, the agency said in a statement Wednesday 2 May. Copper output in Chile, the world's leading producer of the red metal, totaled 5.6 million tonnes last year. Copper accounts for 60 percent of the total value of the South American country's exports, which in 2011 amounted to $81.4 billion. Cochilco's head of studies and public policy, Maria Cristina Betancour, said experts incorporated into their forecasts "the expectation of a mild recession in the eurozone, a

lower probability of a global financial crisis and a soft landing for the Chinese economy". China is the biggest buyer of Chilean copper. The analysts expect the price of copper to average $3.86 per pound in the second half of 2012 before falling to an average of $3.77 per pound in 2013. The experts, who are forecasting a downward trend over the medium and long term, predict a price of $3.05 per pound in 2017. Cochilco said copper prices are useful in predicting various economic variables, including Chile's gross domestic product growth, the peso exchange rate and tax revenues.

Facebook plans to go public to raise $87bn By Arun Kumar WASHINGTON, May 4 (IANS) Facebook will go public with a stock price of $28 to $35 to set the popular social network's valuation as high as $86.6 billion, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. At the midpoint of the initial range, $31.50, the initial sale of more than 337 million shares of Facebook stock would net more than $10.6 billion, with about $5.6 billion of that going to the company. The rest will go to existing stockholders who are selling their shares, including CEO and cofounder Mark Zuckerberg (pictured) and venture capital investors such as Palo Alto-based Accel Partners. The company's valuation at the midpoint of the suggested range would be about $78 billion, short of many projections that Facebook would shoot for a valuation of up to $100 billion. Initially established in a Harvard dormitory by Zuckerberg and some friends as college-specific social networks closed off to interested outsiders, Facebook eventually opened up to the world and became the most popular social network in history, with more than 900 million monthly active users. However, Facebook's profits dipped in the

first three months of 2012 when compared with the same quarter in 2011. While sales hit $1.06 billion in the first quarter, up 45 percent from the year-ago quarter, thanks to a 37 percent increase in advertising revenue, Facebook's total profit dropped to $205 million, from $233 million a year ago. Facebook's most anticipated stock debut for Silicon Valley in several years is expected to set records for funds raised and valuation for an Internet company. Google's IPO in 2004, which set the company's value at $23 billion and reaped $1.9 billion for the Mountain View search giant, is the largest for now.

More family places in budget THE Australian Government has increased family places from 58,600 to 60,185 in this year’s Federal Budget, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Bowen MP, said. “We recognise the important social benefits of close family reunion, which is why there has been a modest increase of 1,585 places to the family stream of the 2012-13 migration program,” Mr Bowen said. “These places will be particularly directed towards child and partner visa categories. “Many migrants to Australia leave their families behind and I am pleased the Government is able to reunite many families through this program.” Mr Bowen said there was growing demand for people wanting to live with family

members and such people could be important contributors to the nation’s productivity. The Government also announced 5,000 additional skilled migration places – from 185,000 to 190,000 – to help fill skills shortages in parts of the Australian economy. “This is a great opportunity for people who have the skills Australia needs to come here and enjoy all Australia has to offer while contributing to our nation’s productivity,” Mr Bowen said. The 2012-13 migration program includes a skills stream of 129,250 places, 60,185 family places and a special eligibility stream of 565 places.

Tata Coffee net up 43 percent in 2011-12 ASIA'S largest integrated coffee plantation firm Tata Coffee Ltd Tuesday (8 May) reported a Rs.79 crore net profit for 2011-12, posting a 43 percent increase year-on-year (YoY) from Rs.55 crore in 2010-11. In a regulatory filing, the Tata group company said total income from operations for the fiscal rose 27 percent YoY to Rs.509 crore from Rs.401 crore a year ago. For the fourth quarter of the fiscal, net profit zoomed 100 percent YoY to Rs.28 crore from Rs.14 crore in same period year ago and total income 33 percent YoY to Rs.133 crore from Rs.100 crore a year ago. "Focus on the premium segment for speciality and certified coffees resulted in 28 percent increase in volumes sold YoY. We also targeted the US market for its Robusta coffee and saw a manifold increase in volumes," Tata Coffee managing director Hameed Huq said in a statement later here. The instant coffee division has also turned around following process-centric busi-

ness transformation for consolidation and growth. Customer - focused approach, quality improvements, engaged work force and focus on a safe working environment have propelled the division's sustained performance. The triple certifications of Rainforest, UTZ and SA8000 helped the company capitalise on its focus on quality, people, environment and community by enabling its thrust into the premium market for differentiated coffees. "As domestic coffee consumption has been growing steadily over the years due to double-digit growth in the instant coffee category and out-of-home consumption, we are gearing up to supply coffee beans to cafes and the tie-up with Starbucks will propel this growth in the coming years," Haq said. The company's Eight O' Clock coffee in the US continued to be the number one whole bean coffee brand in the grocery segment (Nielsen) and the fourth in the overall branded segment. The brand has entered

20 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, May, 2012

into the fast growth single serve coffee segment in the US, which augurs well for its future. "Globally there has been a switch of consumers from national brands to private labels looking for high quality, tempting flavours brewed from the finest ingredients. We have been able to cater to the needs of such consumers with innovation of products and technology," Haq said. As the country's largest coffee producer and second largest exporter ofinstant coffee, the company ships the beans to countries in Europe, Asia and North America. The company had put in place various climate change initiatives and greeninitiatives to reduce the carbon footprint. The company is a carbon sink of 1.6 lakh thousand tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent sequestered and is the largest carbon sink in the Tata group. This is primarily from the 1.1 million trees which are the shade for the coffee crops.

Indians start to see less corruption: Gallup poll By Arun Kumar WASHINGTON, May 8 (IANS) Indians continue to see corruption as widespread in their country's government and business, but are less likely to feel that way this year, according to a new Gallup poll. This may reflect rising optimism about the government and citizen's efforts to fight the country's corruption problems, the Gallup organisation, noted for its opinion polls, said while releasing the survey Tuesday, 8 May. In early 2012, some 73 percent Indians surveyed said corruption was pervasive in their government and 67 percent said it is widespread in business, the survey noted. Perceptions of widespread corruption within the business community are particularly high among current business owners (72 percent) and those who plan to start a business within the next 12 months (80 percent). This likely puts a serious roadblock in the path of investment and business development, Gallup said. Although Indians are less likely this year to see corruption as widespread in their government, their confidence in the country's leadership remains lower than it was a few years ago, it said. Sixty percent currently say they are confident of their national government, down

from 70 percent in 2009. Residents likely became more frustrated when government ministers spent valuable legislative time addressing political scandals instead of the country's deteriorating economic conditions, it said. The beginning of 2012 shows signs of what could be the start of a positive turnaround in Indians' perceptions of corruption. If the trend continues, it may signal a more favorable business climate for investment and economic growth, Gallup said. Further, a substantial boost in the economy and living standards - particularly for the nearly one in three Indians who rate their lives poorly enough to be considered "suffering" - may help raise Indians' confidence in their government, it said. The survey results are based on face-toface interviews with 5,000 people aged 15 and older conducted Jan 29-March 8 in India. Gallup attributed Indians changing feeling about corruption to among other things, arrest of A. Raja, who stepped down as telecommunications minister in the wake of the 2G scam, the Supreme Court revoking the illegally awarded telecom licenses and social activist Anna Hazare's crusade for anti-corruption legislation.

BJP legislator's son shot dead in UP LUCKNOW, May 8 (IANS) The son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district Tuesday after a spat with the guard of a nursing home over parking a car, police said. The incident took place near the R.N. Pandey Nursing Home in Gonda, 120 km from Lucknow, police said, adding the guard, Suresh Kumar Pandey, is absconding. A home department spokesman told IANS that the deceased has been identified as Gaurav Singh, son of Bawan Singh, BJP legislator from the Katra assembly constituency. Gaurav, after the guard asked the legislator's son not to park the car at a certain spot. When Gaurav did not pay heed and the verbal duel turned into a fight, Pandey fired at Gaurav, injuring him critically. Gaurav was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility where doctors referred him to Lucknow but he died on the way to the capital due to profuse bleeding. Police said there was tension in the area after the killing and adequate police force had been deployed to control any untoward incident. Police officials told IANS that legal proceedings were on and that the cops were on the look out for the assailant who fled the scene soon after opening fire. Call Trudi on 07 3356 0102

Incentives increase film and wedding traffic to Fiji By Rama Gaind THE natural lusciously green panorama of Fiji, together with tempting inducements, has finally resulted in the South Pacific nation’s first major break into Bollywood. Indian movie-makers have been drawn by the country’s attractive tax incentives for the film industry. Entertainment giant Eros International was among the first to take up the enticement with producer Vikram Rajani announcing that three films would be shot in Suva and along the Coral Coast. According to Fiji’s Attorney-General and Minister for Tourism Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum, this would be a great boost to the local tourism industry along with a production spend of an estimated FJ$21 million for the three movies in total. “We believe this is the beginning of Bollywood coming to Fiji and we are looking at Bollywood showcasing Fiji to India and, indeed, to the rest of the world,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said. Director Prem Raj was also lured to film ‘Bombay Mumbai’, ‘Kia’ and ‘Let's Talk Love’ in Fiji. Proactive action While the Fiji government has been targeting the Indian market—so has the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa on Denarau Island. Its general manager Adam Laker (pictured left) says his property is one of several that has proactively pursued India. “We have a dedicated sales and marketing strategy in place to secure new business for 2012, as India is an increasingly important source market for Fiji,” Mr Laker said. “There is outstanding potential for growth and segmentation over the next 18 months, especially given that Fiji is more accessible than ever before with one-stop routes via Hong Kong proving popular.” Fiji has recorded a huge 30 per cent growth in tourist arrivals from India for last year alone. “Of course, the fact we have our own chapel is also beneficial in increasing our wedding traffic from India, and because of

this feature we’ve been able to build on our reputation as a destination wedding location for those who have Indo-Fijian friends and family already living in Fiji.” To better attract the India market, the resort has further tailored its restaurant offerings to cater to Indian guests using local and organic produce to produce its own southern Indian-style cuisine. Sofitel’s Lagoon restaurant features an Indian buffet night once a week, while its casual beachside restaurant Salt boasts the destination’s only authentic tandoor oven for Indian specialty items featured on the menu. We were able to sample some of these delicious treats—along with the warm hospitality of the local community—when my husband and I stayed at the resort to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Captivated by its long, lazy beachfront location, swaying palm trees and romantic sunsets, the resort has the island’s largest lagoon swimming pool and 26-acres of lush gardens with tantalising views extending across Nadi Bay. Catch the wonderful Bula bus to see the many island hotspots, take day trips to Mala Mala Island, Sigatoka, do the Rover Safari to meet local village to partake in a kava ceremony or travel down to Nadi and meet the local Indian community.

Faith in the Lord Submitted by Sundar Gopal Das SATURDA 5 May was the appearance of Lord Nrsimhadeva, to save Prahlad from Prahlad’s demon father Hiranyakasipu. The life and teachings of Prahlad are very important for those who want to progress in spiritual life and is described in detail in Seventh Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. Prahlad at that time was only five years old but his faith in the Lord was unparalleled. Hiranyakasipu was a demon king and could not tolerate that his son was a devotee of the Lord, his arch enemy. He tried to kill his son in many ways but Prahlad was always absorbed in the Lord and was always protected by the Lord. An analogy is given. If one who is not good at swimming and goes to the beach, soon the waves will become overpowering and never ending leaving him breathless. However if one is a good surfer and swimmer, he will relish as the waves gets larger. Similarly if one is totally absorbed in material life, the problems will become overwhelming and seem never ending. Whereas one who is god-centred, he will not be bothered by any of the problems, placing his faith in the Lord. Queen Kunti prayed to the Lord to give her more problems so she would always remember the Lord and the Lord would come and protect her. One of the symptoms of a surrender person is that he has deep faith that the Lord will always protect him and Prahlad was the ideal example for this. Prahlad was placed in so many difficulties but he tolerated everything having deep faith that the Lord will always protect him as mentioned by Sri Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita “I envy no

one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him. O Arjuna, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes.” Prahlad never blamed anyone for his difficulties. He never saw his father as his enemy. Similarly we may be faced with many difficulties and we must learn to tolerate like Prahlad and have deep faith in the Lord. Sri Brahma prays to Lord Krishna “My dear Lord, one who earnestly waits for You to bestow Your causeless mercy upon him, all the while patiently suffering the reactions of his past misdeeds and offering You respectful obeisance's with his heart, words and body, is surely eligible for liberation, for it has become his rightful claim.” This type of tolerance is only possible for those who are God-centred and not looking for happiness from this material world. And only he can be always happy. Sri Krishna mentions to his friend Uddhava “Those who fix their consciousness on Me, giving up all material desires, share with Me a happiness that cannot possibly be experienced by those engaged in sense gratification. One who does not desire anything within this world, who has achieved peace by controlling his senses, whose consciousness is equal in all conditions and whose mind is completely satisfied in Me finds only happiness wherever he goes.” So understanding that this material world is temporary and remembering the Lord in all our activities, we can be happy and tolerate everything. Any comments or questions, please contact us on bhaktibrisbane2010@gmail.com. We regularly gather together for sat-sanga so please contact us if you are interested.

A breakthrough in Alzhemier's or Parkinson's treatment? INJECTING a protein into the brain could protect its nerve cells from prion disease, a condition which causes the brain to wither away, says a new study. Because the process by which prion disease affects mice brains is similar to some degenerative brain conditions in humans, scientists are hoping that the findings could be a breakthrough in the treatment of Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. In each case, brain cell death is linked to the build-up of misshapen proteins, forming plaques in the brains of Alzheimer's sufferers and lewy bodies in the nerve cells of those with Parkinson's, the journal Nature reports. In the mice with prion disease, researchers found that when the faulty proteins begin to accumulate, their cells activated a defence mechanism which halted the production of such proteins, according to the Telegraph. The halt ought to be temporary, but in the diseased mice the production of proteins, crucial to cell survival, did not start

up again. Scientists found that by injecting a different protein which prevents the supply from being "switched off", they could protect the mice's brain cells for longer and extend their lives. Giovanna Mallucci, professor at Leicester University, who led the research, said that it could provide a "way forward in how we treat other disorders." Roger Morris, professor at the School of Biomedical Sciences at King's College London, described the findings as a "major breakthrough" and said there were "good reasons" for thinking it could also apply to Alzheimer's. But Eric Karran, of Alzheimer's Research UK, warned that the research on the prion protein was in its "early stages" and added: "We would need to see the same results confirmed in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's to really strengthen the evidence." GODS favour DEAR reader it is our joy to bring you the Word of God. Matthew 7v7&8 reads "Ask, and it Pastor Joseph will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. "Do you realise that Gods favour is available for us every day and do you go about each day expecting and looking for it. Many of us wake up and just believe to make it through the day, while God has so much available for us. Matthew 6v31-33 tells us that God knows what we need each day and instead of worrying about our needs we are to look for Gods favour every day. His favour includes our daily needs, employment we looking for, bills that need to be paid, new opportunities, breakthroughs, promotion etc. That means what God has laid for us in the future is far more than we can imagine, what He has arranged for your loved ones is more than you have ever dreamed of. If we are to walk in Gods favour then we have to raise our expectation. The level of favour we receive depends on our level of expectation. Proverbs 23v7 says "As one thinks in their heart so shall they be." If our expectation is the size of a cup then that is what we going to receive but if our expectation is the size of the ocean then that

www.indiantimes.com.au

is what we going to get. If we are going to walk in Gods favour then we have to believe for it. Dass One time 2 blind men cried out to Jesus, to have mercy on them. Jesus said to them "Do you believe that I am able to heal you". They said to Him "Yes Lord." Then He touched their eyes saying, "According to your faith let it be to you." That means we can tap into Gods favour by believing that God is (exists) and He rewards us as we seek Him. If we are going to walk in Gods favour then we are to confess Gods favour for ourselves. Equality of Man and Woman Prepared by Imam Aslam ALL Praises is due to Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, Peace and Blessings be upon the most perfect of creations, His Beloved Habeeb, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam his noble Family and the illustrious Sahaba Ridwanullahi Ta'ala Alaihim Ajma'een and all the pious servants of Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala. The religion of Islam gave women an honourable status and true dignity. Before the advent of Islam, women had no rights of any kind, or an independent identity in any form. The great importance of the Muslim woman’s role – whether as wife, sister, or daughter, and the rights that are due to her and the rights that are due from her – have been explained in the Glorious Qur'an, and further details of this have been explained in the Sunnah. The Holy Qur'an makes no distinction between man and woman as regards to the fundamental human rights. Here we may specifically state that woman, like man, is the possessor of free personality, and enjoys equality with man.

Her spiritual and moral status:

i.e. in matters of spiritual grace both, man and woman, enjoy equal status and are independent of one another. A woman’s responsibility in faith is exactly the same as that of a man. Women are to pray, fast, give charity, perform the pilgrimage and perform other forms of Ibadah. A woman is rewarded for this just like a man. In surah Nahl it mentions that whichever man and woman does righteous deeds, we will give them the peaceful life and they will get a better reward better than they have done in this world. A woman must believe in the Oneness of Almighty Allah, the Books of Almighty Allah , the Angels of Almighty Allah, the Prophets of Almighty, the Day of Resurrection, the Day of Judgment and Heaven and Hell, and Predestination.

Her legal rights:

Islam ensured a dignified life to the fair sex, which was hitherto treated in an unfair manner. Woman became the mistress of the household. Man was not allowed to beat or manhandle them nor deprive them of their share in the property. Islam gave woman rights even in inheritance. As Quran mentions in surah Nisa.

Her right for gaining the Knowledge:

Islam has made it a duty on every Muslim male and female to gain knowledge, which is considered to be a superior act of worship in Islam. In Islam, therefore both men and women are credited with the capacity for learning, understanding and teaching. Knowledge is not only limited to the religious knowledge but includes all forms of knowledge. Acquiring knowledge will enable Muslim women and men to get a better perception and understanding of the world around them and make them more conscious of Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala.

Her economic rights:

In Islam a woman enjoys the economic right like man. If she works and earns this is for her and she is the owner as Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala said in the holy Quran.

Conclusion:

The status of Muslim women as defined in Islam is very important because women make up half of society and they are responsible for nurturing, guidance and reformation of the subsequent generations of men and women. It is the female who imbues principles and faith into the souls of the nation. Indeed, the Muslim woman is the initial teacher in building a righteous society. Islam brought a new lease of life to women. Islam elevated the status of women to great heights so high that she stood Call Trudi on 07 3356 0102

shoulder to shoulder with man. In the Islamic family, the role of men and women is complementary rather than competitive. Their duties are described as equal in importance but not identical in substance. Now, the issue of feminism in Islam is meaningless. The coming of Islam has brightened the life and future of women, in which Islam has lifted up their level. Islam upholds women to the highest and most respected position. I hope my effort will be appreciated and my sisters in faith will surely remember me in their prayers for peace and prosperity, health and happiness and Allah’s SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala Mercy and Favour. May Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, through the Waseela of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam accept this humble effort; and may He SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala give us the Toufeeq and Hidayah to restore the true rights to our Muslim women as dictated by Islam. Aameen!!

Eleven Signs of Love for the Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam Someone who claims that he/she loves another will prefer that person to all others, he will also prefer what they like, if it were otherwise then he would be acting and his love would not be sincere. The following signs will be apparent in those who truly love the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam: First: The first sign of love for the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, is that he/she will follow his example, apply his prophetic way in words, deeds, obedience to his commands, avoidance of whatever he prohibited and adopt his manner in times of ease, hardship, joy and disappointment. Allah says, "Say (Prophet Muhammad, 'If you love Allah, follow me and Allah will love you."[Aal Imran : 31]

Second: The second sign is that he/she will set aside his own desires and appetite in preference to the law established and encouraged by the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam. Allah says, "Those before them who had made their dwelling in the abode (City of Medina), and because of their belief love those who have emigrated to them; they do not find any (envy) in their chests for what they have been given and prefer them above themselves, even though they themselves have a need." [al Hashr : 9] Third: The third sign is that a person's

anger of others is only for the sake of seeking the pleasure of Allah. Anas, Malik's son was told by the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, "My son, if you can refrain from holding a grudge in your heart from morning to evening, then do so." He then added, "My son, that is part of my prophetic way. Whosoever revives my way has loved me, and whosoever loves me is with me in the Garden." [Sunan Tirmidh, Kitab al-Ilm, Vol 4, Page 151] If a person possesses this fine quality, then he/she has perfect love for Allah and His Messenger. If he is found to be slightly lacking in this quality then his love is imperfect, but not devoid of it. The proof of this is found in the saying of the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, when a person faced punishment for imbibing. As the person was about to receive his punishment a man cursed the offender, whereupon the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said, "Do not curse him. He loves Allah and His Messenger." [Sahih Bukhari, Kitab al-Hudood, Vol 3, Page 133]

Fourth: The fourth sign is that one men-

tions the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, in abundance – whosoever loves something, it is constantly upon his

tongue. [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq alMustafa, Vol 2, Page 32]

Fifth: The fifth sign is yearning to meet the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam. Every lover yearns to be with their beloved. When the tribe of Ash'arites approached Medina, they were heard chanting, "Tomorrow, we will be with those we love, Muhammad and his Companions!" [Dalail an-Nabuwwah lil Bayhaqi, Vol 5, Page 351] Sixth: The sixth sign is that as well as the

remembrance of the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, someone who loves him will be found praising and respecting him whenever he is mentioned and display humility, and lower himself when he hears his name. We are told by Isaac At -Tujibi that after the passing of the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, whenever the Companions heard his name they became humble, their skin trembled and they wept. As for the other followers of the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, some experienced the same out of love and yearning for him, whereas others did so out of respect and esteem. [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq alMustafa, Vol 2, Page 33]

Seventh: The seventh sign is the love

expressed for the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, and the People of his House, and his Companions – the Emigrants (Muhajirun) and the Helpers (Ansar) alike for his sake. A person with this sign will be found hostile to those who hate them. Of Al Hasan and Al Hussain, may Allah be pleased with them, the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said, "O Allah, I love them, so please love them." Sahih Bukhari, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol 5, Page 23 Sahih Muslim, Kitab al Fadhail, Vol 4, Page 1883 Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol 5, Page 327 Al-Hasan said that the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, also said, "O Allah, I love him, so love the one who loves him." Of his two grandsons, the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, also said, "Whosoever loves them, loves me." Then he said. Whosoever loves me, loves Allah. Whosoever hates them hates me and whosoever hates me hates Allah." Muqaddam Sunan Ibn Maja, Vol 1, Page 51 Majma' az-Zawaid, Vol 9, Page 180 The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said, "Do not make my companions targets after me! Whosoever loves them loves them it is because they love me, and whosoever hates them it is through their hatred of me. Whosoever harms them, harms me. Whosoever does something to hurt me does it is as if it is hurtful to Allah. Whosoever does something that appears to be hurtful to Allah is about to be seized." Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol 5, Page 358 Musnad Ahmad, Vol 5, Page 54 Of his family, the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, said referring to Hadrat Fatima, may Allah be pleased with her, "She is part of me, whosoever hates her hates me." Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol 5, Page 24 Sahih Muslim, Kitab Fadhail as-Sahaba, Vol 4, Page 1903 The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, spoke of the Helpers (Ansar) saying, "The sign of certain faith is love for the Ansar, whereas the sign of hypocrisy is hatred for them." Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al Manaqib, Vol 5, Page 27 Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al Iman, Vol 1, Page 9 Sahih Muslim, Kitab al Iman, Vol, Page 85 The fact is when someone loves another, he loves everything that person loves, and this was indeed the case with the Companions. When Anas saw the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, eating a piece

of pumpkin, he said, "From that day I loved pumpkins." [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq alMustafa, Vol 2, Page 34] Al-Hasan, the grandson of the Prophet, may the peace of Allah be upon them, went with Jafar to Salma and asked her to prepare some food the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, used to eat. [Shamail Tirmidhi, Page 155] Omar once saw the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, wearing a pair of yellow coloured sandals, so he too wore a pair of the same colour. Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al-Libas, Vol 7, Page 132 Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Hajj, Vol 2, Page 844

Eighth: This is also the sign of prophets love to show respect for his belongings.

Ninth: The ninth sign is found in those

who love the Qur'an which the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, brought, by which the Prophet and they were guided. When asked about the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, Hadrat Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, said, "His character was that of the Qur'an." Part of the love of the Qur'an is listening to its recitation, acting according to it, understanding it, keeping within its bounds and the love of Prophet Muhammad's way. [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq al-Mustafa, Vol 2, Page 35] Sahl, Abdullah's son spoke of this sign saying, "The sign of loving Allah is love of the Qur'an. The sign of loving the Qur'an is the love of the Prophet. The sign of loving the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, is love of his prophetic way. The sign of loving the prophetic way is the love of the Hereafter. The sign of loving the Hereafter is hatred for this world. The sign of hatred for this world is that you do not amass any of it except for provisions and what you need to arrive safely within the Hereafter." [Al Shifa bi Ta'reefi Huqooq alMustafa, Vol 2, Page 35] Masood's son said, "No one needs to ask himself about anything other than the Qur'an, if he loves the Qur'an then he loves Allah and His Messenger" praise and peace be upon him. [Bayhaqi fil Aadaab, Page 522]

Tenth: The tenth sign of love for the

Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, is to have mercy on his nation by advising them well, striving for the betterment of their interest and removing anything that is harmful from them in the same way that the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, was "gentle and merciful to the believers." [al-Taubah : 128]

Eleventh: The eleventh sign of perfect

love is found in whosoever restricts himself through self-denial, preferring poverty to the attractions of the world. The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, told Abu Sa'id Al Khudri, "Poverty for those of you who love me flows quicker than a flood from a mountain's peak to its base." [Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab az-Zuhd, Vol 4, Page 7] A man came to the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I love you." The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, warned, "Be careful of what you say." The man repeat his love for him thrice, whereupon the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam told him, "If you love me prepare yourself quickly for poverty." [Sunan Tirmidhi, Kitab az-Zuhd, Vol 4, Page 7]

Health Beauty Wellbeing Researchers measure addiction to Facebook ARE you a social media enthusiast or simply a Facebook addict? Researchers from Norway have developed a new tool to measure this phenomenon -- the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale (BFAS). In January 2011, 227 women and 196 men participated in BFAS tests. The scale can facilitate clinical assessment and can be used for the estimation of Facebook addiction prevalence in the general population worldwide. "We are dealing with a subdivision of Internet addiction connected to social media," says Cecilie Schou Andreassen from the University of Bergen, who led the first of its kind study anywhere, reports the journal Psychological Reports. Andreassen's study shows that the symptoms of Facebook addiction resemble those

of drug addiction, alcohol addiction and chemical substance addiction, according to Bergen statement. She said Facebook dependency occurs more regularly among younger than older users. People who are anxious and socially insecure were also found to use Facebook more frequently, probably because they find it easier to communicate via social media than face-to-face, Andreassen adds. "Our research also indicates that women are more at risk of developing Facebook addiction, probably due to the social nature of Facebook," Andreassen says. Andreassen's study shows that scoring "often" or "always" on at least four of the seven items on Bergen scale may suggest that you are addicted to Facebook. IANS

"Prevalence and costs of AD (Alzheimer disease) and other dementia are projected to rise dramatically during the next 40 years unless a prevention or a cure can be found," write researchers from University of California, San Francisco. Barnes also examined depressive symptoms assessed in midlife (1964-73) and in late life (1994-2000) and risks of developing dementia. Depressive symptoms were present in 14.1 percent of study participants in midlife, 9.2 percent in late life and 4.2 percent in both. During six years of follow-up, 22.5 percent of patients were diagnosed with dementia and 5.5 percent with Alzheimer disease. IANS

SYDNEY, May 8 (IANS) Lupus patients may develop more severe symptoms if their vitamin D levels are low, says an Australian study. Known as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), lupus is an autoimmune disease, which prompts an attack on tissues of the body by its own immune system, affecting more than five million people worldwide. It can also lead to kidney disease. Although its cause is unknown, the results can be disastrous as the body stops producing normal antibodies, which becomes instrumental in an attack on healthy tissues. Eric Morand, professor and head of the Monash lupus clinic, who led the study, said although avoiding the sun is important for lupus patients, as sunlight can aggravate the condition, but this can also lead to vita-

min D deficiency and contribute to its severity, according to a Monash statement. "Instances of vitamin D deficiency can be seen in cultural groups where clothing covers the body, in people with dark skin tone who have lower absorption, and those who practice sun avoidance" Morand said. "Although it's too soon to draw conclusions about the long-term safety and effectiveness of vitamin D supplements in lupus, a clinical trial is the next step proving that supplementing vitamin D makes lupus better," added Morand. The findings will be presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian Rheumatology Association in Canberra from May 11-15 , coinciding with the observance of World Lupus Day on May 10.

Scientists close to finding meningococcal B shot SYDNEY, May 8 (IANS) Researchers are close to finding a shot that protects against many strains of meningococcal B, the most prevalent cause of a rare but serious infection affecting brain and spinal cord membranes. The disease can become fatal or cause great harm if you are not treated right away. Symptoms are red spots, a rundown feeling, sudden high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea or vomiting, discomfort in bright lights, drowsiness or difficulty in awakening, joint pain, etc. The trials of the potential vaccine had found it to be safe and stimulating an effective immune response, the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases reports. "Meningococcal B can cause meningitis and blood poisoning and can progress very quickly with devastating effects," said Peter Richmond, from the University of Western Australia (UWA), who led the study. Children between the ages of one month and one year are most at risk from

meningococcal with a second peak in adolescents, he added, according to an UWA statement. "The development of a vaccine to protect against multiple strains of meningococcal B is particularly important in Western Australia and in many regions of Europe and North America where this particular type of meningococcal disease is most prevalent," added Richmond, associate professor from UWA School of Paediatrics and Child Health. Richmond said the trial data showed that the potential vaccine produced protective antibodies against 90 percent of the invasive meningococcus serogroup B strains tested. This phase two trial enrolled 539 healthy adolescents from 25 sites across Australia, Poland and Spain to test the safety and immune response of the lipoprotein 2086 vaccine. The bug's B strains account for more than 90 percent percent of meningococcal cases in Western Australia.

Minimising fat with more exercise easy way to shed weight EATING less fat and doing more exercise is the simplest and the straightest way to slimming, says a new study that vindicates a common sense approach to weight loss. Scientists at Harvard Medical School, Boston surveyed 4,000 obese adults and found those who followed the common sense advice were much more likely to lose weight than those who adopted fad slimming regimes, went on liquid diets or bought costly weight-loss supplements. Christina Wee, who helped compile the study at Harvard, said: "There are lots of fad diets out there as well as expensive over-the-counter medications that have not necessarily been proven to be effective. So it's very encouraging to find that most of the weight-loss methods associated with success are accessible and inexpensive." Researchers found 41 percent of those who

cut their fat intake were more likely to have shed five percent of their body weight in under a year than those who went on liquid diets, used non-prescription dieting supplements or followed popular slimming regimes, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine reported. And if they exercised more than usual, they were almost 30 percent more likely to lose the weight. Although five percent weight loss may not sound significant, experts say it is enough to delay the onset of diabetes in an obese person, according to the Daily Mail. And the 'Not Rocket Science' diet helped many volunteers shed more weight, with 37 percent of those who cut down on fat more likely to lose a tenth of their body weight, while exercising boosted their chances by 6 percent. British lab growing human body parts BRITISH experts are growing human body parts like nose and ears in laboratory, Daily Mail reported Sunday 6 May. "This is a nose we're growing for a patient next month," professor Alexander Seifalian says matter-of-factly, plucking a petri dish from the bench beside him. Inside is an utterly lifelike appendage, swimming in red goo. Alongside it is another dish containing an ear. "It's a world first," he says smiling. His lab is little more than a series of worn wooden desktops strewn with beakers, solutions, taps, medical jars, tubing and looks like a school chemistry lab. But it's from here that Seifalian leads University College London's Department of 30 — THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, May, 2012

Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine. When the nose is transferred to the patient, it doesn't go directly onto the face but will be placed inside a balloon inserted beneath the skin on their arm. After four weeks, during which time skin and blood vessels can grow, the nose can be monitored, then it can be transplanted to the face. At the cutting edge of modern medicine, Seifalian and his team are focusing on growing replacement organs and body parts to order using a patient's own cells. There will be no more waiting for donors - just a quick swap, the newspaper added. IANS Call Trudi on 07 3356 0102

Health Beauty Wellbeing Eye colour linked to severity Celebrating over 15 years of excellence in cosmetic medicine, of skin conditions EYE colour can tell whether you're at risk of serious skin conditions. The blue eyed are less likely to have vitiligo, while the brown eyed may have lower risk of melanoma, says a new study. Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disease in which pigment loss results in irregular white patches of skin and hair. Melanoma is the most dangerous kind of skin cancer. The study, led by the University of Colorado School of Medicine (UCSM), looked at almost 3,000 people with vitiligo of Non-Hispanic European ancestry, identifying 13 new genes predisposed to vitiligo, the journal Nature Genetics reports. "Genetically, in some ways vitiligo and melanoma are polar opposites. Some of the same genetic variations that make one more likely to have vitiligo make one less likely to have melanoma, and vice-versa," said Richard Spritz, director of the Human Medical Genetics and Genomics Program at the UCSM.

"Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease, in which a person's immune system attacks their normal pigment cells. We think that vitiligo represents overactivity of a normal process by which one's immune system searches out and destroys early cancerous melanoma cells," added Spritz, according to a Colorado statement. People with vitiligo are at higher risk of various other autoimmune diseases, such as thyroid disease, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Their kin are also at higher risk for these same diseases, even if they don't have vitiligo. Spritz said this means there must be some genes that push towards these autoimmune diseases in general, while other genes and environmental triggers determine which autoimmune disease occurs and when. So, as scientists learn about the genetics of vitiligo, they are also learning about the genetics of these other autoimmune diseases. IANS

Alcohol more harmful for women By Nikhil Walia NEW DELHI, May 7 (IANS) Alcohol in any amount can be dangerous to anyone but it affects women more than men, with increased health risks like liver and heart diseases and infertility for them, according to experts. According to Monika Jain, a senior hepatologist with Fortis Hospital, "the female physiology is such that it allows for greater toxicity with lesser amounts of alcohol and in lesser time, as compared to males." "A woman's body doesn't break down the alcohol as quickly as a man's body does. This results in greater levels of alcohol in blood, resulting in greater toxicity," Jain told IANS. "The enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) which breaks down the alcohol in stomach is produced in smaller quantities in women resulting in slower action as compared to men," Jain added. According to a publication by the US National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism(NIAAA), women who drink heavily face greater health risks than men who drink heavily, with women alcoholics being more prone to liver disease, heart damage and brain damage. Amongst the other problems, the report claims, chronic heavy drinking can lead to menstrual problems, infertility, and early menopause while drinking during

adolescence can interfere with puberty, growth, and bone health. But the most vulnerable are the pregnant women who drink because in their case, even the unborn child is at risk from alcohol, which is a teratogen, a substance that can harm a foetus. "Alcohol consumption by pregnant women can induce problems like Fetal Alcohol Disorder(FAD) and Abruption," Shivani Gour, a gynecologist and director of Isis hospital, told IANS. "FAD is a major problem with ill-effects ranging from mental retardation to delayed physical growth. Any amount of alcohol consumed by an expecting mother is enough to harm the unborn child. And then there is abruption, which means premature detachment of the placenta," she added. "The women are more vulnerable to alcohol because of increased percentage of fat as well as estrogen, which delays alcohol breakdown and increases alcohol toxicity in women," said Gour. However, the damage is not just physical.

Brookwater diversifies luxury housing products to meet new demand THE desire for housing diversity coupled with an exclusive golf lifestyle is driving demand for the latest release in Brookwater, which was officially launched earlier in April. The latest stage in Brookwater’s The Crest release is an exciting collection of 31 home and land packages. The new range features a series of four-bedroom luxury terrace homes, lifestyle homes and traditional homes all set amongst native Australian bushland. This new product will appeal to existing residents, families looking to downsize and investors. Homesites range from 401 square metres to 814 square metres, with home and land packages priced from $495,000. Brookwater Residential General Manager Terry Honan said the latest range of home and land packages was a result of an increasing demand for new – and diverse – luxury housing options. “There has been a tremendous amount of growth in the area which has driven the need for a diversity of housing options to suit a variety of lifestyles,” Mr Honan said. “While this is the first time Brookwater have offered housing products of this size, quality has not been compromised with the new architecturallydesigned homes including luxury interior finishes.” A recent study conducted by the Council of Mayors’ (SEQ) – the Livable Compact Cities Project (2011)* – found that residents within south-east Queensland want to see a diversity of housing options within their local community to enable them to choose different housing types as they enter each new life stage. “Research has indicated that more people in southeast Queensland want a diversity of housing options in the one community to allow them to age-in-place as they move from one life-stage to the next,” Mr Honan said. “A key theme of the Council of Mayors’ (SEQ) research was the importance of community, with more people wanting to both up-size and down-size within their preferred locality. “For example, some of our existing residents who have been here for almost ten years are looking at down-sizing their home to suit their lifestyle, but don’t want to compromise on quality or lifestyle. “Brookwater’s new range of home and land packages will allow people to choose from a much wider choice of housing options – from luxury terrace homes to traditional homes complete with media rooms and extra entertaining space – which will better suit their changing lifestyle and needs,” Mr Honan said. Mr Honan said Brookwater’s exclusive lifestyle was continuing to attract new residents and investors to the awardwinning community. “Brookwater residents have access to our premier community facilities – including the Greg Norman-designed golf 0 15.0 15.

Real Estate News REIA meets with new Housing Minister THE REIA President Pamela Bennett and CEO Amanda Lynch met with the new Minister for Housing, Homelessness and Small Business, Brendan O’Connor (pictured), in Canberra on April 16. The meetng took place at the Minister’s request only weeks afer his appointment on March 5, 2012. Ms Bennett elcomed Mr O’Connor to the role and said she was pleased that the Housing portolio was represented in Cabinet, something that REIA had been advocatng for some tme. At the meetng the REIA President raised a number of issues outlined in REIA’s PreBudget Submission: • The retenton of the

First Home Owners Grant • The need for creatve solutons to assist frst home buyers such as access to superannuaton for the purpose of raising a deposit for a frst home • Taxaton reform, including the need to abolish stamp duty Ms Bennett ad Ms Lynch discussed natonal licensing with the Minister and the REIA’s concerns over the erosion of standards in the profession if the recommendatons of the Natonal

Occupatonal Licensing System Task Force are implemented. The concerns focus on four main areas: the level of qualifcaton for a licensed agent – Cert IV rather than Diploma level; no compulsory professional development; no licensing of commercial property agents, and; the qualifcaton for an agent’s representatve was considered

inadequate. Mr O’Connor said he would look into the issues raised by REIA and ategorically

ruled out any changes to the current arrangements for negatve gearing and the capital gains tax exempton on the family home. REIA called for the development of a comprehensive housing policy to be developed by the Commonwealth. “Increased migraton, changes in household formaton rates, an ageing populaton and the consequent implicatons on the type of housing requirements and diferences in state/regional growth rates, are challenges that need to be met through collaboraton between industry and all levels of government, Ms Bennett aid. RIEA

Government shifts responsibility for housing affordability to RBA REAL Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) CEO, Ms Amanda Lynch says the Government has failed to introduce any new initiatives to address housing affordability in this year’s Budget and has instead passed all responsibility onto the Reserve Bank. “The good news is the Budget retains conditions where further rate cuts are possible. But as we have seen last week, there is no guarantee cuts will find their way to borrowers, Ms Lynch said. The Government has said returning the budget to surplus sends a very clear signal to the world about our strong economic fundamentals, and gives the Reserve Bank flexibility to cut interest rates further if it thinks that is needed. Since peaking in the early nineties, home loan affordability has been trending downwards to alarming levels. Ms Lynch says first home buyers have been very cautious in early 2012, with the number

of first home buyers as a percentage of total owner occupied housing commitments decreasing to 17.2 per cent in February, down considerably from the long-term average of 20.2 per cent. “We had hoped the Government would recognise the need to directly intervene and not leave housing affordability dependent solely on the whim of the banks, Ms Lynch said. “One of the most effective housing policy instruments in assisting first home buyers is the First Home Owners Grant, but it has been allowed to lose more than half its value relative to purchase prices since it was introduced in 2000, Ms Lynch added. “The Budget might fund new cost of living relief for Australian families but it fails to address what most Australians see as a priority – housing affordability, Ms Lynch concluded. Real Estate News Methods of selling Continued from last issue uctioneers today are highly trained in A their field having attended courses and completed written and practical professional examinations with the REIQ. Furthermore, they must hold current registration under the Property Agents and Motor Dealers Act 2000. When your auctioneer is a member of the REIQ you have the additional benefit of dealing with an auctioneer who is bound by the high ethical standards of the Institute. Click here to find an auctioneer from a REIQ accredited agency. Agreement: Legislation requires that a written agreement must be signed between the seller and the auctioneer. Commonly, this appointment is covered by the PAMD Form 22A that the seller has signed with their listing agent. In this, the agent or auctioneer will require an exclusive agency for a specified period, which cannot exceed 60 days but by mutual agreement can be renewed for a further period. Promotion: This is considered by many to be the key to a successful auction. There is a legal obligation to clearly explain to the seller where and how monies will be spent, and show examples of the marketing mix. At this stage, the seller's input is very important to help identify the probable target market. Arriving at a reserve price: It is the seller’s right to set the reserve price, if any. The agent should be consulted when setting the reserve price, as they will be familiar with recent sales of similar property in the area. Sellers need to remember to be realistic when making their decision, bearing in mind supply and demand in the area as well as other general market considerations. Selling before the day of the auction: It is not uncommon for interested buyers to make offers on properties prior to auction

day. Some will be on fishing expeditions of course, to try and find out the reserve. However, most will be genuine. In such cases, the agent will discuss the offer with the seller, and a decision can be made to either consider the offer, or continue with the auction program as planned. If a seller decides to sell the property prior to going to auction, the agent will generally (on the seller's instructions) invite all potential buyers to also make an offer. The seller then accepts the most appropriate offer and contracts are signed prior to the auction date. Auction day: On auction day, buyers will be held to the conditions of sale by public auction. In the course of conducting an auction, there are a number of possible outcomes: * Should the highest bidder reach or exceed the reserve price, the property is sold and the auctioneer will complete a binding contract between the buyer and seller. The auctioneer may sign the contract on behalf of either or both parties if instructed to do so; * In the event that the highest bid falls short of the reserve price, the auctioneer will usually ask for the seller's instructions before passing the property in. This means the seller has the opportunity to accept the last bid, by placing the property "on the market" so that it may definitely be sold "under the hammer". This factor often creates more excitement, which can encourage further bidding, and a better price may be achieved; * It can be that the highest bid does not reach the reserve price and the property is passed in. The highest bidder is generally informed of the reserve price and may be given an opportunity to buy. Failing this, the property is placed on the market for sale by private treaty, at which time anyone may negotiate with the agent. REIQ

Astrology Aries “The Ram” “The Go-Getter” March 21 - April 20 You will have to give priority to domestic matters this month, which means you will have to put professional issues on hold. Don't expect any dramatic changes. Your life will flow smoothly, health and finances will not pose any problem and your mind will be at peace. In the latter part of the month, though, with some planets going retrograde, things may slow down. And, you may even see a negative impact on your job and love life, but not on finances. Ganesha assures you that it is going to be nothing serious. However, you must avoid taking important decisions during this time. You may also be in a double mind about your love relationships. Take the down time as the breather that may actually reinforce your bonding. Steer clear of speculation. Rather, take to spirituality to calm down. The important dates this month are 16, 17, 26, 27. Taurus “The Bull” “The Builder” April 21 - May 22 A mixed bag of fortune awaits you. There will be a strange amalgamation of independence and dependence in you. You are likely to kick-start new ventures confidently, but will soon tend to develop cold feet, and will have to turn to others for assistance. Ganesha says this is the best time for introspection and planning, not action, so that you can make your moves when the time is right. You may feel that you are out of luck in your love life too, as the recent misgivings in your relationship may aggravate. Instead of playing the blame game, Ganesha advises you to show some maturity and take it upon yourself to iron out the wrinkles. The second week of the month will be good for you financially, so you may pay off your loans, if any. The dates to watch out for any important tasks this month are 19, 20, 28. Gemini “The Twins” “The Magician” May 23 - June 21 This month will be good for you on a personal level, but professionally things may not be equally great. Personally, your happiness will be at its highest level, and while you will indulge in the heady pleasures of life, you will also possess peace of mind. Health consciousness is a new for you, and you shall stick to it, come what may. You will eat wisely, and shall take care to exercise and meditate to stay fit. Certain spiritual practices can help you realise your weaknesses, points Ganesha. Professionally, your life will be in a constant state of flux, which actually may be a reflection of the state of your organisation. For singles, this is a good time to commit for the long term, while married people need to keep marital discords at bay, or else they may cause irreparable damage to their relationship. The dates to watch out for any important tasks this month are 11, 23, 25, 30. Cancer “The Crab” “The Caterer” June 22 - July 22 This month the cosmic forces exert a tremendous spiritual pull on you, and you find yourself totally preoccupied with the higher aspects of life. You will touch the very zenith of spirituality through meditation, and it will have a powerful bearing on your practical life too. The best part is that you will be able to synchronise your spiritual inclination with your worldly responsibilities, which is no mean feat, says Ganesha. You may also hold religious congregations and prayers in your home. Consider yourself lucky that you have a family which supports you unquestioningly in your spiritual and religious quest. You need to pay more attention to your health, though. This is a good time to take stock of the past and prepare for the future. The important for any crucial tasks this month are 13, 14, 23, 25. Leo “The Lion” “The Boss” July 23 - August 22 The cosmic configuration this month, particularly the solar eclipse on the 20th, suggests there will be major changes in all spheres of your life. The changes shall not be all negative, though, assures Ganesha. In your

career, particularly, you may see quick progress. But it is not the right time to think of changing jobs, even though there may be extensive restructuring taking place in your company. Just make the best of what you have. You will concentrate on improving your relationships with friends, socialising, as well as expanding your knowledge of latest technologies to keep pace with the fast-changing technical world. Your health will need careful monitoring, and you may need to undergo an operation. Or worse, a member of your family may have a dangerous encounter. Take care! he dates to watch out for any important tasks this month are 16, 17, 26, 27. Virgo “The Virgin” “The Accountant” August 23 - Sept 22 This month your career will take an upward turn, foresees Ganesha. But it will not be a smooth ride; there will be many impediments. The top brass of your company may be overhauled, making your own position unstable, and you will have to be careful about your rapport with peers. However, the prospects of your finding a more lucrative job in a renowned company with a promise of better work environment are very bright. So keep sending out those job applications! You may also be drawn towards altruistic causes, which will raise your social esteem. This is a good month for studies, for both students and others involved in higher education and research work. Admissions, scholarships and education loans will be easy to obtain. Be careful about your health, though. The dates to watch out this month are 19, 28, 29. Libra “The Scales”“The Councellor” September 23 - October 22 Your stars are very powerful now, and you may simply be raring to go. You will be so full of energy and self-belief that goals, you would normally have considered unachievable, will now appear to be within your reach. Among the plethora of events that are on the cards, is foreign travel. You know that you don't have sufficient cash to undertake a foreign tour that beckons, but Ganesha assures you that you will manage to raise the required funds. On another level, certain aspects in your charts indicate that you may have to examine your convictions afresh, as some of them don't match up with facts and the ground reality. Put them through the sieve and retain only those that still matter. Go with the flow on the career front. The dates to watch out for any important tasks this month are 12, 23, 25, 30. Scorpio “The Hydra” “The Psycho Analyst” Oct 23 - Nov 21 This month you need to be subdued in everything you say or do. The current planetary configurations are not much in your favour, so put off any major decision-making for later. For now, just ponder, plan for the future and relax yourself, especially your mind, as chances of it being rather foggy are high. Ganesha advises you not to take any risks with health, career, relationships and finances. Let the status-quo prevail at least until you gain some mental clarity, which should happen once the effects of the solar eclipse wear off by the end of the month. You may notice some psychological changes taking place, just watch them silently, do nothing either to perpetuate them or get rid of them. They will turn out to be beneficial eventually. The important dates this month are 13, 15, 23, 24. Sagittarius “The Archer” “The Teacher” Nov 22 - Dec 22 This month the stars shall have a powerful impact on your family and relationships. More than your family members, it is

you who will have to manage any untoward situation. You will have to display great maturity in times of any family crisis, by assuaging the temperamental nature of some of the members of your family. This month holds the potential to be disruptive for married people, as the dark side of your spouses may be revealed. You may even have to take the difficult decision of whether to carry on or part ways in a particular relationship. However, singles are likely to find the right person to settle down with. If you happen to be embroiled in litigation, be prepared for some dramatic developments. The dates to watch out for any important tasks this month are 16, 17, 26, 27. Capricorn “The Goat” “The Mayor” Dec 23 - January 30 Your optimism and high confidence levels will keep you happy this month. This will have a direct and positive bearing on your health, which will improve dramatically after a recent bout of illness. Ganesha advises you to take up some sort of physical activity, whether it is yoga, aerobics or simply jogging, to maintain optimum health, especially if you are prone to falling sick often. Another area where you need to exercise extra caution is your communications, lest they adversely affect your relationships or career. This also applies when your are signing any partnership deals or new projects. The workforce turnover in your company may be rapidly increasing, and though you may be spared in the restructuring process, new incumbents may irritate you no end. The important dates this month include 18, 20, 28. Aquarius “The Water Bearer” “The Innovator” Jan 21 - Feb 19 There is little in which the stars may support you this month. But one such favourable area is your relations with your parents. They may feel lost and disoriented, and may expect you to help them overcome their predicaments. Ganesha says this is a wonderful opportunity, as you will not only earn their blessings, but it will also help you patch up with them on certain long-standing disputes. On other fronts, you will be over-burdened with work and there may be no mental or emotional clarity – some of these effects are certainly caused by the occurrence of the solar eclipse. Domestic affairs need to be sorted out before the solar eclipse on 20th. Monetary matters could be a bone of contention between you and your spouse, with whom you otherwise enjoy a cordial relationship. The dates to watch out for any important tasks this month are 12, 24, 25, 30.

A complete guide to Hindu rituals and routines... Cont’d from last issue - Courtesy Dhavl Vyas, India 18. Why do we blow the conch? When the conch is blown, the primordial sound of Om emanates. Om is an auspicious sound that was chanted by the Lord before creating the world. It represents the world and the Truth behind it. As the story goes, the demon Shankhaasura defeated devas, the Vedas and went to the bottom of the ocean. The devas appealed to Lord Vishnu for help. He incarnated as Matsya Avataara - the "fish incarnation" and killed Shankhaasura. The Lord blew the conch-shaped bone of his ear and head. The Om sound emanated, from which emerged the Vedas. All knowledge enshrined in the Vedas is an elaboration of Om. The conch therefore is known as shankha after Shankaasua. The conch blown by the Lord is called Paanchajanya. He carries it at all times in one of His four hands. It represents dharma or righteousness that is one of the four goals (purushaarthas) of life. The sound of the conch is thus also the victory call of good over evil. Another well-known purpose of blowing the conch and 36 - THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, May, 2012

the instruments, known traditionally to produce auspicious sounds is to drown or mask negative comments or noises that may disturb or upset the atmosphere or the minds of worshippers. Ancient India lived in her villages. Each village was presided over by a primary temple and several small ones. During the aarati performed after all-important poojas and on sacred occasions, the conch used to be blown. Since villages were generally small, the sound of the conch would be heard all over the village. People who could not make it to the temple were reminded to stop whatever they were doing, at least for a few seconds, and mentally bow to the Lord. The conch sound served to briefly elevate people's minds to a prayerful attitude even in the middle of their busy daily routine. The conch is placed at the altar in temples and homes next to the Lord as a symbol of Naada Brahma (Truth), the Vedas, Om, dharma, victory and auspiciousness. It is often used to offer devotees thirtha (sanctified water) to raise their minds to the highest Truth. It is worshipped with the following verse. Continued next issue... www.indiantimes.com.au

Bollywood & Entertainment Movie review - Trishna Vidya Balan receives National Award for The Dirty Picture

By Umesh Chandra Director: Michael Winterbottom Starring: Freida Pinto, Riz Ahmed, Roshan Seth, Meeta Vasisht, Harish Khanna Running Time: 113 mins Rating: 4/5 TRISHNA is not your everyday movie, having my roots in Rajasthan; I could relate to many scenarios, the Marawri language, the house, and the situations, all I could relate to. Having made so many trips to Rajasthan and our village in Khetri, I was moved and touched by the movie; the scenes are all too vivid. The story touches on the harsh realities of life, many known but untold facts of today’s society. Based on Thomas Hardy's classic novel Tess of the D'Urbervilles, 'Trishna' tells the story of one woman whose life is destroyed by a combination of love and circumstances. Set in contemporary Rajasthan, Trishna (Freida Pinto) meets a wealthy young British businessman Jay Singh (Riz Ahmed) who has come to India to work in his father's hotel business. After an accident destroys her father's Jeep, Trishna goes to work for Jay, and they fall in love. But despite their feelings for each other, they cannot escape the conflicting pressures of a rural society which is changing rapidly through industrialisation, urbanisation and, above all, education. Trishna's tragedy is that she is torn between the traditions of her family life and the dreams and ambitions that her education has given her. For this review I am not going to go too deeply into the story line but focus of the aspects of the whole production. Frieda and Riz play their parts brilliantly well. The movie has 3 distinct phases and each aims to explore a different phase of the relationship between the two. Beautifully shot, the camera captures the real mood of the scenes. The movie touches on sexual desires and somewhat highlights the imbalance between the two sexes. These dramatic facts of life are shown in the movie where by the male tends to gain sexual pleasure even when the partner is unwilling. The reality of poverty, girls working in what ever industry that would employ them to pay for the bills of the family. The pains

that they go through silently, they don’t have anyone to complain to, as the parents know about the agony. The movie is well made, the direction is excellent the acting superb, both actors have done justice to the roles they play. Freida Pinto in my opinion played her role extremely well, a very good and fitting choice for the role, she just fitted into the role as a glove to a hand. The sound is good, the storyline is thought provoking and keeps one thinking about it long after viewing. This is the third movie of its kind that I am reviewing before it official release, the first one was Slum Dog Millionaire starring Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, I actually interviewed Dev Patel after the pre release viewing. The second one was The best Exotic Marigold resort starring Dev Patel, and now Trishna starring Freida Pinto. Slum Dog Millionaire showed a different view of TV shows and Slums of Mumbai, my predication of the movie during my interview with Dev Patel turned out correct. The Best Exotic Marigold resort took a rather humorous angle, while Trishna touches on the emotions and struggles of rural village communities of India. I would go as far as putting Aamir Khans Peepli Live in comparison. So Trishna is a must watch movie highly recommended, at the time of viewing the classification had not been allocated so I am not sure what viewing rating the Movie might get, having sexual references, I feel it will fall within the R category. Khan in his programme "Satyamev Jayate" aired Sunday 6 May, had highlighted the story of a sting operation done seven years back by two journalists to expose increasing female foeticide cases in four states - Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Following the expose, the Rajasthan government had come down heavily on doctors who were involved in sex determination tests and abortions and started a probe against them. However, the doctors since then have either been promoted or have been cleared of the charges. Aamir said in his show that he would appeal to the Rajasthan chief minister to get 40 - THE BRISBANE INDIAN TIMES, May, 2012

the cases against the doctors clubbed together and tried in a fast track court and appealed to viewers to support his signature campaign. "Aamir has expressed his desire to meet the chief minister on May 9. The chief minister's office is looking at the CM's schedule on that day. Chances are high that he (Gehlot) would meet him," said a senior official in the chief minister's office. Rajasthan has been in the news for increasing cases of female foeticide and female infanticide. According to Census 2011, Rajasthan has 883 girls between the age of 0-6 for every 1,000 boys. The child sex ratio in 2001 was 909. Alarmed over the state's skewed sex ratio, the state government recently announced steps to curb pre-natal sex determination tests at ultrasound clinics.

Now Honey Singh set to Dev helped me handle fame: Freida Pinto conquer Bollywood PUNJABI rapper, music producer and now celluloid hero 'Yo Yo' Honey Singh is heading to B-Town with a song "Mujhe neat pilade sajna", his first in Hindi. The song will feature in Naseeruddin Shah-starrer gangster flick "Mastaan". "Mastaan", produced by Sunil Bohra, will see Naseeruddin sharing screen space with his son Vivaan. Singh, whose latest album "International Village" has fetched immense success, recently made his acting debut with "Mirza: The Untold Story". Singh says he decided to saunter into Bollywood with a song on a friend's insistence. "I'm happy where I am. But when my friend Sunil Bohra heard and liked my first Hindi song and said he wanted to use it in his Hindi film, I said, 'Take it! It's all yours'. He came to Delhi, heard my entire cata-

logue and liked at least 190 of my songs," said the singer. Unknown to Bollywood, the 25-year-old is especially popular among Punjabis in India and Britain. "I started my career as a music producer in 2005. In 2006, my single went to be number one in the BBC world charts. I used to sing in English. "Then on the audiences' request, I began to rap and sing in Punjabi. I was in Britain for nine years. But now for the last three years, I've been creating my music in Punjabi," he said. And now Singh is extending his reach into Hindi cinema. "Bollywood will be a bonus. But I will head to Bollywood only when the offers come with respect for my art. I am not here to sell myself," he added. IANS

ACTRESS Freida Pinto says her beau Dev Patel came to her rescue when fame became too much to handle post their Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire". She says Dev, her co-star in the film, was the only person who truly understood what she was going through, reports contactmusic.com. "If I needed to talk to someone about what happened, he was the only one who knew what was going on. It was nice to have those moments and that experience together," said Freida. The former model, whose life changed after the film, says the fame was overwhelming. "It took a while to accept what had happened. As much as I was happy with what was going on, it was almost too much to take in for somebody who'd never experienced any of that before," said the 27-year-old. "Surrounding myself with good people such as family and close friends helped me keep my head on my shoulders," she added. IANS

Believe in good story, not stars: Vidhu Vinod Chopra MUMBAI, May 8 (IANS) There is no lead actress in "Ferrari Ki Sawaari", but producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra is confident about the film's box office performance and says he believes in telling good stories, and not in lead actors or actresses. "We don't make movies for leading men, leading women, item numbers. We don't believe in that. We believe in a good story well told," Chopra told reporters Monday here when asked would absence of a female lead affect the film's success. "When 'Parinda' was released, a Punjab distributor told me that the film would flop because Jackie Shroff doesn't have a heroine, but the movie did well. We make good cinema," he added. Chopra was talking at the release of the film's first song "Mara re sixer, mare re 4". First time director Rajesh Mapuskar has wielded the megaphone for the film, which is co-written by Mapuskar and Chopra. The film's star cast includes Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani. Apart from content, other highlights of the film are that it was at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London, the child artist and of course, Vidya Balan's item song. "This is the first time that any film has been shot at the Lord's Cricket Ground. They said no to us too. Then we sent our script; they saw our storyboard. Finally, they allowed us to use one room. But when they saw the commitment of the crew, they not only gave us the long room, which is Call Trudi on 07 3356 0102

historical, but also gave us the cricket ground, which was unbelievable. It was such an emotional moment for us," said Chopra. Talking about the child artist, whose name he is keeping under wraps, the filmmaker said: "It is almost impossible to miss the child in the movie." "The kid is one of the best performers. I told Sharman and Boman that now you have a natural performer. He has not even seen the film. His innocence is being preserved. He has no idea how he has done. We tried almost 10,000 kids and then found him," he said. Vidya had played female lead in Chopra's super hit film "Lage Raho Munna Bhai" and in this film she would be seen doing her first ever item song. The film is releasing June 15. "I don't like the word, item number. Item number means, our film is not good, so we got an item girl and that's why you watched it," said Chopra and added that it's a lavani dance. "The director went to Pune to look for dancers. He messaged me from Pune and recommended Vidya, but I told him to leave it. He told me again to ask her and I sent Vidya a message. She said that she had been dying to do a lavani for 15 years. She rehearsed for 15 days and shot the scene. "The rest of the dancers are authentic lavani professionals. The scene is a part of a wedding which Sharman attends in the film," said Chopra.

No player in the history of the Spanish league has ever reached the 50-goal mark, with the previous record held by Cristiano Ronaldo, who last season netted 43 goals, Xinhua reported. Butt is lonely and depressed: Asif KARACHI, May 7 (IANS) Pakistan's banned fast bowler Mohammad Asif, who was released from British jail Friday 4 May, said former captain Salman Butt (pictured), with whom he shared a cell, was lonely and depressed and eagerly waiting to end his prison term. "Salman and I were sharing the same room for three months in the prison and he wished me good luck on the day of my release. But he (Salman) is a lonely man and looked very depressed on the day of my release from jail. He has been quite miserable at times and is anxiously awaiting his release," Dawn quoted Asif as saying. Asif and Butt shared a cell at the Canterbury Prison in Kent. The duo, along with their other team mate Mohammad Aamer and their agent Mazhar Majeed, were sentenced by London's Southwark Crown Court to 30, 12, 6 and 32 months in jail respectively. The court found them guilty of conspiring to cheat and accept corrupt payments over bowling deliberate no-balls bowled during the Lord's Test against England in August 2010. Asif said there were very few Muslims in the prision and they were given a option

He then added another from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute, before outsprinting the Espanyol defence to net a third

Having a nonmuslim room partner could have made life difficult for both me and Salman," he said. Asked if he had an ill feelings against Butt, Asif said: "No, there were no ill-feelings between us. In fact, we were like two brothers in the prison. Both of us were made gym in-charge where we played badminton and football." Asif said that the bond between the two grew stronger in prison. Asif said he remained in touch with his family in Pakistan over telephone while Butt's family members visited him in the prison. "Every month in the jail, Salman's wife (Gul), his elder son and mother paid a visit there. But his younger son has been denied a visa again and therefore could not see him," he said. Asif said now he wants to clear his name. "My strong legal team is preparing a case and hopefully I will be able to clear my name," he said.

The North Coast Raiders president, Craig Vallipuram, said the club was shocked at the death of Lizzie. "We're very devastated about what's happened and we're all coming to terms with it at the moment. People are just really just trying to digest what's happened ... playing a game of hockey," he said. Forty-year-old Pellegrino spent six successful seasons as a player at Valencia after moving to Spain to join Barcelona. When he retired he joined the backroom staff at the club, before joining Liverpool where he worked as assistant to Rafael Benitez, with whom he won two league titles and the UEFA Cup. He moved with Benitez to Inter Milan in the summer of 2010 and left the club with the Spaniard when Benitez was sacked in December of the same year. The former Argentinean international faces a difficult job in following Emery, given that Valencia have had to sell key players, such as David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata in recent years to help clear their large debt, while the club is known for having some of the most demanding fans in Spain.

Sharath-led Indian TT team leaves for final Olympic qualifier NEW DELHI, May 8 (IANS) A four-member Indian table tennis team comprising Sharath Kamal left for Doha to give it a last shot at qualifying for the London Olympics. Rajasthan thrash Pune to keep playoff hopes alive PUNE, May 8 (IANS) Rajasthan Royals cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Pune Warriors to stay on course for a playoff berth in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After restricting Pune to a meagre 125 for six courtesy pacer Shaun Tait's three wickets, Rajasthan cantered home as Australian all-rounder Shane Watson (pictured) smashed an unbeaten 90 off 51 balls at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium. The visitors overhauled the Pune score with 22 balls to spare and the victory catapulted them into fourth position in the IPL table. Rajasthan's top run-getter Ajinkya Rahane (0) had a rare failure, but captain Rahul Dravid and Watson steadied the ship playing some delightful shots. Dravid, who in eight consecutive previous innings

had recorded scores of 25 plus, was foxed by a slower ball from South African pacer Wayne Parnell and was caught in the covers by Michael Clarke for 14. Watson continued in his merry making ways as he smashed a hapless Pune attack all around the park. Young Ashok Menaria (18) played a smart innings, giving the Australian all-rounder as much strike as possible before being caught by Mithun Manhas in the deep. Watson, who reached his fifty off 27 balls, hit four sixes and 10 fours in his knock as Rajasthan got to 126 for three. Earlier, Pune's problems with the top order continued as captain Sourav Ganguly (14) decided to open the innings. The decision had an adverse effect on the run rate as his partner Clarke, too, got bogged

down. Ganguly in a bid to improve the run-rate fell to a bouncer from Tait while Clarke followed him to the pavilion, trapped in front by Stuart Binny in the very next over. Bengal batsman Anustup Majumdar, playing his first match in the tournament, gave the Pune innings a much needed impetus scoring 30 off 20 balls. However, spinner Johan Botha castled him after which the innings fell apart. Robin Uthappa's (13) poor run with the bat continued as he became Tait's second victim and Sri Lankan Angelo Mathews (11) was run out by Owais Shah. Australian Steven Smith, who had bailed out Pune on quite a few occasions, could only manage 18 today 22 balls.

Pieters to miss Euro 2012 due to foot injury THE HAGUE, May 8 (IANS) The Netherlands will be without Erik Pieters at Euro 2012 after the PSV Eindhoven leftback received bad news on his foot injury. Just three hours before the withdrawal of Pieters Monday (7 May), Dutch head coach Bert van Marwijk announced a provisional Euro 2012 squad of 36 players, including Pieters. As a replacement Van Marwijk called up 23-year-old Alexander Buttner of Vitesse Arnhem later. Pieters (23) was the regular defender of the Dutch team after Giovanni van Bronckhorst retired post the 2010 World Cup final. The 14-time international injured his right foot in April during PSV's league match against RKC Waalwijk. Examination Monday showed he would not recover in time, after which he informed Van Marwijk. The Dutch squad includes FC Barcelona's Ibrahim Afellay, who just returned from a lengthy injury layoff. Star players like Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar have all made Van Marwijk's provisional squad, too. Call Trudi on 07 3356 0102

Van Marwijk named several youngsters without any caps, such as Stefan de Vrij (20), Jetro Willems (18), Nick Viergever (22), Adam Maher (18), Erwin Mulder (23) and Jasper Cilissen (23). Cilissen is second goalkeeper of Ajax, while first choice Kenneth Vermeer is not selected. "Within the technical staff we closely discussed to achieve a group as balanced as possible," Van Marwijk was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "In this phase of the preparation we have to deal with the Dutch playoffs, foreign leagues and cup finals and the final of the Champions League." "Furthermore, there are players coming back from injuries. That's partly the reason why I called up some talented players that we have been following for a while for this two-day training session. It's a great opportunity for these players to show themselves," he said. The first squad meeting is May 14 and 15

in Hoenderloo where a group of players from the Dutch and German leagues without club obligations will gather. The group will be cut down to around 27 players when the Dutch team moves to Switzerland May 17 for another preparation camp. The definite group of 20 field players and 3 goalkeepers has to be announced before May 29. The Netherlands have scheduled friendly games against Bayern Munich, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Northern Ireland before the start of Euro 2012. The Dutch start the tournament with the group match against Denmark June 9, before taking on Germany and Portugal.
