Hello Bixby Middle School Families!

I have already heard the countdown begin towards summer break! I am not sure where the time has gone April has had some beautiful weather but we could really do without the storms and the waves of pollen Our Middle School family continues to celebrate all the remarkable achievements and positive developments within our site April also represents not only nature's growth month, but also highlighting the results student dedication and resilience can create. This month's Great Expectations trait of loyalty highlights another value supporting our students' ability to help one another and foster trust and camaraderie. We believe fostering these traits can promote a positive culture beyond the classroom. Please join us in modeling aspects of loyalty in your own interactions especially as we instill their sense of belonging. Hoping you continue to celebrate the positive growth month of April with the Middle School!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG! WHILE SOME DECIDE TO DECLUTTER THEIR HOME, WHY NOT GIVE YOUR MENTAL WELLBEING A REFRESH TOO? JUST LIKE A GOOD OLD-FASHIONED SPRING CLEANING, TAKING CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH CAN LEAVE YOU FEELING LIGHTER, BRIGHTER, AND READY TO BLOOM!

DECLUTTER YOUR THOUGHTS:

IDENTIFY NEGATIVE SELF-TALK ARE YOU CONSTANTLY PUTTING YOURSELF DOWN? CHALLENGE THOSE THOUGHTS! SPEAK POSITIVELY ABOUT YOURSELF AND ADVOCATE FOR YOUR WELL-BEING

DEEP CLEAN YOUR HABITS:

BREAK FREE FROM UNHEALTHY PATTERNS IS SOCIAL MEDIA BRINGING YOU DOWN? TAKE A DETOX BREAK! CREATE SPACE FOR POSITIVE ROUTINES. START A GRATITUDE JOURNAL OR A RELAXING BEDTIME RITUAL.

ORGANIZE YOUR PRIORITIES:

IDENTIFY WHAT'S CAUSING YOU STRESS. FEELING OVERWHELMED? DELEGATE OR SAY NO TO EXTRA COMMITMENTS IT’S OKAY TO SAY NO AND FOCUS ON YOURSELF FOR A MINUTE!

SET REALISTIC GOALS FOR YOURSELF. BIG GOALS ARE GREAT, BUT BREAK THEM DOWN INTO SMALLER, ACHIEVABLE STEPS

DON'T FORGET TO REJUVENATE:

MAKE TIME FOR MINDFULNESS PRACTICES MEDITATION OR DEEP BREATHING CAN HELP CLEAR YOUR HEAD RECONNECT WITH LOVED ONES. SPENDING TIME WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE CAN BOOST YOUR MOOD

GET OUTSIDE AND SOAK UP THE SUNSHINE! VITAMIN D IS A NATURAL MOOD BOOSTER YOU’LL BE SURPRISED HOW GOOD YOU FEEL BY TAKING A SHORT WALK OUTSIDE OR PLAYING A GAME IN YOUR BACKYARD WITH FRIENDS

REMEMBER, SPRING CLEANING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION BE KIND TO YOURSELF, AND CELEBRATE YOUR PROGRESS!

FCCLA

Three Bixby Middle School FCCLA students spent time at the State-Level competition last week in Stillwater! All three placed in the TOP THREE in their respective events; we will find out their individual scores (and final placement - first, second, or third) at the state convention (attended by over 25,000 FCCLA students and advisers from all over the state) next week!!

Alivia Vogel placed top three in Level One state competition in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation STAR event; her focus was a rejuvenation and rebranding project for a local Tulsa area restaurant (Gyros by Ali).

Lily Turgeon placed top three in Level One state competition in the BRAND NEW Teaching Strategies STAR event (only offered this year as a pilot event in five states!); her focus was teaching The History of Games to a Kindergarten class at West elementary using 'Gamification' and 'Collaborative Learning' strategies.

Kim Tennell placed top three in Level One state competition in the Public Policy Advocacy STAR event; her focus was establishing a high school club focused on providing cultural connections, classroom translation, and support for students, especially those from immigrant and multicultural families. She will also be attending the 'Spartans Day at the Capital' later this month to discuss her advocacy plan with state and local lawmakers.

They've spent months researching, interviewing, and compiling their projects, and their hard work certainly paid off!!!
