MALTA WELCOMES EUROPRIDE 2023

For the first time ever, the annual EuroPride festival is taking place in Malta. This much vaunted multiday gala of diversity is usually assigned to large cities on the continent, so it is quite a feather in Malta's boa that Valletta was chosen as host for 2023's bonanza, with a whole host of celebratory events that will bring an influx of jovial visitors to the islands this September. Rather surprising to people from other countries unfamiliar with the openmindedness of Maltese society, is the fact that Malta is a world leader in LGBTQIA+ rights. The International Lesbian And Gay Association ranks 49 European countries on its quality of life for LGBTQIA+ people, Malta's position on the list? Number 1.

While parties and other merriment are the climax of any EuroPride, there is actually a wide range of engaging activities on the calendar encompassing a variety of topics related to the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond. The grand opening will take place on the 7th of September, initiating ten days of art exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and lectures to complement the parties, dance performances, film nights, and drag shows filling the evening hours. Among the highlights is the EuroPride march and concert on the 16th of September, preceding the end of the festival the following day, when a harbour cruise will showcase Valletta's beauty from the water. Although special events are taking place not only in the lovely ‘triq ’ (Maltese for streets) of Valletta; the Gozo Pride march and concert are being held on the 9th of September, enticing visitors to experience the dramatic scenery and local charms of the sister island, while immersed in an extra-special ambience of conviviality. www.europride2023.mt
