Resourcefulness is undoubtedly one of the most valuable traits on any farm. Artisanal woodworkers and bladesmiths Jared and Kylee Thatcher, the Kentucky makers behind BootHill Blades, know this mentality well. The pair crafts knives, spoons and spreaders with an approach that wastes nothing and works relentlessly to elevate humble, traditional designs into remarkably artistic—yet still functional—kitchen tools. This resourceful spirit is reflected in their special edition Blackberry Farm wooden utensil series as well as their knife series. Handcrafted with hammered carbon steel and wood from storm-fallen trees on the Farm, the hand-forged knives are truly one of a kind. A fixture in our fields for years, sheep have long been part of Blackberry’s picturesque farm experience. As a working farm, though, these friendly animals have contributed much more than just a picture-perfect addition to our meadows. Their rich, pure milk has been transformed into award-winning cheeses, and now, our sheep’s soft, warm fleeces are being transformed too. Working with the talented craftspeople of Maine’s renowned Swans Island Company, a new range of blankets and throws has been crafted from our flock’s premium wool. Located in a 19th-Century farmhouse

in Maine, the Swans Island team shares the same ideals that distinguish Blackberry: respect for tradition and craft, dedication to quality and passion for thoughtful design. These shared commitments are apparent in the meticulously crafted, heirloom-quality textiles, all of which have been designed in an elegantly understated style by Proprietor Mary Celeste Beall. When people talk about ‘pairing,’ they often mean the magical synergy between what you eat and drink. There’s another opportunity for that palate-pleasing alignment: between your beverage and the glass it’s in.
Although commonly associated with wines, beer-specific glassware can be just as important in accentuating the distinct personalities of different beers. Few people know this better than Knoxville-based glassblower Matthew Cummings of Pretentious Glass Company. A long-time friend of the Blackberry Farm Brewery team, and a passionate brewer and connoisseur of craft beer, Cummings founded Pretentious to celebrate the relationship between well-crafted libations and well-crafted glassware. Inspired by the traditional glasses associated with various beer styles, but eager to push expectations and boundaries, Pretentious has quickly become known for its bold, artistic style. Roy Milner, Blackberry Farm Brewery’s Chief Fermentation Officer and resident beer expert, recently teamed up with Cummings to create three distinct, new designs. All are individually crafted, branded and available exclusively through Blackberry. Conceived to showcase the personalities of three different beer styles, each detail has been carefully considered—from glass height, to bowl shape, to the degree the outer wall tapers to the delicately rolled rim. One of the three designs in The Brewer Series even features an etched profile of the Great Smoky Mountains. The result is a truly rare pairing: one artistic expression that perfectly showcases another.

Blackberry has been active in the craft beer community for almost a decade. We’ve collaborated with acclaimed brewers and even partnered with culinary legends like Allan Benton of Benton’s Country Hams. Our latest collaboration may be our most artistic yet: handblown glassware with Pretentious Glass Company.

What we put on our tables becomes part of the stories we save and share. Potter Leanne Moe McQueen crafts vessels worthy of our tables and our lives. Her simple yet exquisite bowls and plates not only celebrate the art and heritage of Southern pottery, they also respect the powerful role everyday elements play in the meals and memories we make. Just as the chefs of Blackberry Farm look to the soil for culinary inspiration, McQueen’s process begins with humble clay, which she throws into striking shapes and forms. The result is a quiet canvas, a complement that never overpowers the food the vessels present. McQueen has worked with Blackberry’s team perfecting such a balance for years. This relationship is commemorated with an unexpected nod: the grey glaze finishing on many of the pieces is made with ash from The Barn’s fireplace. Guests have long appreciated this meaningful connection, reflected in the custom vessels used in our restaurants. Now, many guests weave the same artistic spirit into their own table traditions, incorporating pieces from our growing range of signature McQueen Pottery. ®
