The Bernards:

The Bernards: Meet A Family Centered Life

Larry and Sally Bernard have called Blackhawk home for 30 years. They love the small town ambiance and the family-centered environment it provides. Both Larry and Sally are blessed that their son and daughter, along with their 6 grandchildren also live in Danville. The couple have been married an admirable 50 years. They met on a blind date at a drive-in movie theater and have been together ever since.

Larry has lived in the East Bay his entire life and has seen vast changes and growth over the years. His interest and love of his local surroundings led him to a career as a real estate agent. “I love having the opportunity to assist people in finding homes where they will create cherished memories for years to come,” says Larry.

Sally was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States in the 1960s. “I came to the United States not knowing any English, but quickly gained a fondness for the language and American culture. I’m so appreciative to my wonderful teachers for their encouragement and patience while I learned to master the language,” says Sally. Her love of language led Sally to a career as an interpreter. As a SpanishEnglish interpreter, Sally helps people breakdown any communication barriers while ensuring they understand and communicate correctly.

Among their many passions, family and especially grandchildren top the list. “No doubt, the light of our lives are our six grandchildren. Asher (12), Graeme (11), Grey (11), January (10), Gannon (8) and Ireland (5). We enjoy spending time at the motocross track watching Asher, Graeme, and Grey race and compete. If not at the motocross tracks, you can find us cheering on Gannon at one of his soccer or baseball games. We also absolutely love watching our oldest granddaughter,

January, singing in local festivals and theater performances. January was recently given the great honor of singing the National Anthem at the Danville Vietnam Veterans Hall. We love volunteering in Ireland’s local co-op classroom, which gives us the opportunity to make a valuable and meaningful connection with our youngest grandchild,” says Sally.

In addition, Larry is a classic car enthusiast. You can spot Larry driving his classic yellow 1955 Chevy truck around the community.

Larry and Sally say they are incredibly grateful to be creating meaningful memories in Blackhawk, “The wonderful people, small town ambience, and family centered environment are what we cherish about living here.”

TrueNose: Redefining Rhinoplasty without Surgery

TrueNose is an innovative new rhinoplasty procedure that offers individuals an alternative to traditional surgical methods for reshaping and enhancing the nose. We are thrilled to announce that Blackhawk Plastic Surgery & MedSpa was recently approved as the only TrueNose provider in the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

TrueNose employs the use of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers to reshape and refine the nose. Unlike surgical rhinoplasty, TrueNose does not involve incisions, bone restructuring, or lengthy recovery periods. Instead, a physician or skilled aesthetic practitioner strategically injects the filler into specific areas of the nose to address concerns such as a dorsal hump, nasal asymmetry, or a drooping tip. The procedure allows for precise sculpting, resulting in a naturally balanced appearance. Additionally, TrueNose is a minimally invasive procedure and provides instant results.

One of the primary advantages of TrueNose is its non-surgical nature. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, requiring

only a short office visit. Another benefit is the ability to customize the results. The physician or skilled practitioner can precisely adjust the volume, shape, and contour of the nose to meet the patient’s unique preferences and facial features. TrueNose also allows for subtle enhancements, making it ideal for individuals seeking minor corrections or adjustments to their appearance.

The TrueNose procedure begins with a consultation where the patient’s concerns and desired outcomes are discussed. During the treatment, the practitioner will sometimes administer a local anesthetic to ensure a comfortable experience. Using precise injection techniques, dermal filler is strategically used to reshape and refine the nose. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete and patients can resume their regular activities immediately after.

While TrueNose offers numerous benefits, it is important to understand its limitations. The results of non-surgical rhinoplasty are temporary, lasting anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the individual and the amount of filler used. This means that maintenance treatments may be necessary to maintain the desired appearance over time. TrueNose is suitable for individuals seeking subtle enhancements but may not be appropriate for significant changes or restructuring. In such cases, traditional surgical rhinoplasty may be recommended.

TrueNose represents an exciting advancement in the field of rhinoplasty, offering individuals a non-surgical alternative to reshape and enhance their noses. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for TrueNose or other rhinoplasty procedures is to schedule a complimentary consultation where we can discuss the procedure and your desired outcome. If you are interested in learning more, please contact our office at 925.736.5757.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue Giving Them Another Chance

RUPERT GOT ADOPTED! HOORAY!

For those faithful readers who have seen Rupert in Tri-Valley Animal Rescue’s articles for the last couple of months, I am so happy to tell you that our darling boy finally got adopted. Rupert was a resident

of the East County Animal Shelter for 3 months and all the volunteers adored him. He entertained everyone with his tricks - including his SPINS that he does on command. He was getting a lot of love at the shelter - but the boy definitely needed his own home and his own family and we were getting nervous that Rupert was being overlooked time and time again -perhaps because of his age. And then he came down with Giardia - and we became even more concerned. And then he found the perfect home. We couldn’t have asked for a better family for our adorable boy. Rupert was adopted by Jared Shaffer and his three kids - Emilie, Will and Michael. Here is what the Shaffer family had to say about Rupert.

“Rupert is the perfect dog for our family. He instantly became comfortable around our family and house. Despite his young age of 10, he has the perfect amount of energy for our family. He loves his walks and chasing squirrels. He is friendly with everyone he meets. He still does his spin for treats.

My only area of training is that he doesn’t like car rides and turns into a 58 pound lap dog while I am driving! That was short lived, and now he is properly restrained. We are building him up for a 3 hour drive (with stops) as my kids and I love to camp near Ebbetts Pass off of Highway 4.”

And this is why TVAR does what we do -- finding amazing homes for these deserving animals. So please consider a rescue animal to add to your homes.

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) - Giving them Another Chance

TVAR is a locally based and volunteer run 501(c)3 animal rescue organization. With our foster dog and foster kitten programs and our Dog and Cat Shelter programs at the East County Animal Shelter, TVAR assists in saving hundreds and hundreds of animals yearly in the Tri-Valley and surrounding areas. We are celebrating 30 years of saving lives with over 250 local volunteers. At TVAR, we rely solely on Public Support to fund our life saving programs.

• ¼ teaspoon of each (sea salt and freshly ground black pepper) OR to taste

• 2 teaspoons raw honey

Salad:

• 1 head romaine young lettuce, shredded

• 2 small cucumbers, peeled, thinly sliced

• 1 avocado, sliced

• 1 medium heirloom tomato, peeled, thinly sliced

• 1 tablespoon red onion, chopped

• 1 teaspoon mild jalapeno, chopped

• 4 tablespoons cilantro, chopped

Garnish:

A few fresh lettuce leaves and mint leaves

Broil prawns and scallops 4-inch from heat (about 3-4 minutes) OR until prawns turn slightly pink. Remove from heat and cool.

Mix salad dressing ingredients (olive oil, lime juice, salt and pepper, and honey) to marinate prawns and scallops and chill.

In a serving salad bowl, place shredded lettuce on the bottom of bowl, add other ingredients (cucumber, avocado, tomato, onion, jalapeno, and cilantro) and toss.

Decorate with lettuce leaves and mint. Enjoy.

Note: Alternative to broiling prawns and scallops: In a medium pot bring 8 cups water and 1 teaspoon salt to a boil, add prawns and scallops. Reduce heat to simmer and gently cook for about 2-3 minutes. Drain prawns and scallops and chill.

Driving Passion: A Celebration of Super Cars and Community

OnJune 4, 2023, the Blackhawk Museum hosted Cara Gamble’s annual Super Cars car show. Cara, a realtor with The Agency in Alamo, combines her love of cars with her desire to connect with her community to create an automotive extravaganza that has become a fixture of the summer season. Cara says that “the car show is more than just a showcase of beautiful cars, but contributes to having a cohesive, happy, and prosperous community. I love bringing our community together for a great time!”

Enthusiasts from all over the region came to witness the aerodynamic designs, advanced technology and high-performance embodied in the masterpieces on display including sleek Ferraris and McLarens to powerful Lamborghinis and Porsches. It was a chance for people to see some of the most intimidating and fastest vehicles available, and to connect with those who share their passion. Whether you’re a casual fan or a true aficionado, Cara’s car show is an unforgettable experience.

Tom:

I have lived in Danville for 30 years. I retired from the corporate tax world and now pursue a variety of projects that interest me. I have always loved cars and look forward to sharing them with you.

HOX Swim Updates

TheAugust Newsletter for the HOX swim team is a bittersweet one to write. I get to reach out to the parents of our graduating seniors to highlight those swimmers. It’s so wonderful to hear the stories from the parents of how far these seniors have come with their swimming careers. The part that is hard is that these kids are moving on to bigger things in their lives, and we won’t get to see them on deck swimming for the HOX next year. Please take a moment to read about all that these seniors have accomplished and the great things that are ahead of them. GO HOX!

Anna Brodigan joined the HOX swim team at age 6 and immediately fell in love with swimming. She swam every summer for the HOX and experienced all the ups and downs of the sport and the dedication it takes. Eventually her hard work paid off, and she won first place in backstroke at the VSA league meet when she was 12 and again the following year! After that Anna decided she wanted to try year-round swimming. She joined the Crow Canyon Sharks team and swam with them for 2 years. During Covid her family moved to Utah temporarily and Anna was able to swim on the high school team there. She qualified for the State meet where she swam on the medley relay and in backstroke. She graduated from high school in Utah in 2022 and just finished her freshman year at the University of Utah. She luckily has a good swim birthday and was able to come back to the HOX this summer for one last season. She is excited to be back on the team where it all started for her! Anna will return to the University of Utah in the fall and pursue her degree in journalism.

Jack Christensen, July 16, 2011 was Jack’s first graduation… from Mini Hox! He was grinning ear to ear, proudly wearing his medal and feeling so accomplished for making it across the pool. His parents were equally relieved that they didn’t have to jump in to save him! Fast forward twelve years and he’s now an almost college freshman, but still grinning ear to ear this season when he earned his first County cap! His parents are so proud of Jack’s commitment and perseverance. When he was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2018, swimming became a bit more challenging as long work outs meant there needed to be a watchful eye on blood sugar levels. Sean and the entire coaching staff were incredibly supportive and helped Jack confidently continue, through both the ups and downs of diabetes as well as the Covid lockdown times.

On May 21, 2023, while Hox were at time trials, Jack delivered the Salutatorian graduation address at De La Salle High School where he talked about inclusion and gratitude, which certainly sum up his experience both at school and at the Hox pool. He’s off to the University of Notre Dame this August as a Mechanical Engineering major. Hopefully he can find some time to swim…in a nice indoor and warm Indiana pool! His parents are so thankful for these many years as part of the Hox and appreciate not only the great lessons in the pool but the examples of leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship that have been such a positive driver in Jack’s life. Go Hox and now Go Irish!

Remy Hepner will be attending Indiana University in the Political Science department. After swimming for Round Hill and briefly at Del Amigo, Remy chose HOX because he appreciated Sean’s coaching and the fun of the HOX 15-18 group.

Kayla Johnson started with mini-HOX when she was 4 and was excited to join the HOX team the following year after watching her two older siblings swim from the pool deck. She started junior coaching in Middle School and really enjoys working with the younger swimmers. In addition, she has made lifelong friends on the team. She graduated from Monte Vista High School and will be attending Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania in the fall.

Mathew Morimoto will head to UC Santa Cruz this fall and is interested in psychology. He is an only child, and his parents are happy that he’s close by. Matthew was born in Tokyo and spent the first 12 years of his life there. He attended the British School from nursery until he left for California in 2017. The photo of young Mathew is an event with his British School team competing against the American School when he was 8 years old. Being able to swim with and help coach the Hox has been very social for him as well as his parents.

Aubrey Simpson has been competing in recreational swim since she was 5 years old (on the HOX since she was 7). She has been an individual VSA champion and a proud contributor to the HOX multiple league championships during her tenure on the team. Aubrey first qualified for the County championship meet when she was 8 and has qualified for the event in all 5 swim strokes each of the last 8 years with multiple top 5 finishes. At the 2021 Springbrook Pentathlon she set the all-time cumulative time record for her age group. She recently graduated from Monte Vista High School where she was captain of the swim team, active in MV leadership and the Senior class secretary. In the Fall she will be starting her college journey at the University of Washington, studying Political Science.

Nine & DineAn Un-fore-gettable night

Niners and spouses enjoyed a beautiful Sunday evening playing the front nine followed by dinner and drinks on the19th hole at the Falls. Guys now understand the real reason women wear golf gloves on both hands…because we don’t want those uneven tan lines! Even though our husbands can drive farther than we can, some of us showed them that our short game and putting are pretty darn good.

Combining Print & Digital To Grow Your Local Business

Print and digital advertising both have compelling advantages that complement each other perfectly. While many business owners choose one method instead of the other, research has shown that pairing these two strategies together is one of the best ways to target an ideal local audience. Let’s take a look at how you can attract new customers by combining the power of print media with modern digital solutions:

THE PRINT & DIGITAL EXPERIENCE

Advertising campaigns can be up to three times more powerful when print and digital media components are combined in a marketing strategy.1 Each format creates a unique experience for every consumer who comes across your ad. Print media activates the senses of readers, such as sight, smell and touch. This creates a memorable experience and ultimately improves the chances of them stopping by or giving you a call. On the flip side, digital ad campaigns are a great way to reach more customers on multiple platforms, while keeping a targeted approach geared to local customers in your area. By mixing print and digital media in your marketing efforts, you’ll reach an impactful audience and stay top-of-mind in the community.

REPETITION IS KEY

Pairing print and digital advertising in your marketing campaign not only expands your audience, but it also increases the chances of consumers making a meaningful connection with your business.2 For example, a consumer may not act upon a print or digital ad alone, no matter how effective your messaging is, but if they see your brand online and in a local magazine, they’re more likely to become a paying customer in the future. Adding multiple touchpoints to your campaign adds validity and trust to your overall brand. This consistency and repetition boosts the audience’s memory capabilities and often leads to improved results throughout a marketing campaign.

Cache Creek

Recently,we had the pleasure of going back to Cache Creek. 15 years ago we were at the Grand Opening of this first class golf course. We have also been there a few other times.

From our home in Danville, it is an easy 1.5 hour ride to Brooks, Ca.

It offers a perfect getaway with golf, spa, great hotel, gambling, food, and world class entertainment. There are over 600 luxury rooms, 24-hour gaming, over 2000 slot machines, 150 game tables, 2 high stakes rooms, 28 table poker room, and state-of-the-art live entertainment venue.

We checked into our neatly appointed view room and began with golf at the Yoche Dehe Golf Club. The name translates to ‘home by the spring water’. It is a Brad Bell design that stretches to 7300 yards with tees matched to every skill level. The green fees include range balls and new carts with GPS. The first tee is perched high above this pristine property and is a great way to start your round.

Wine, Food, Golf & Fun

After golf, we enjoyed cocktails at the casino and dinner at Enso Sushi before going to see Smokey Robinson at their modern entertainment center with no bad seats and perfect acoustics.

William “Smokey” Robinson was the frontman of the Motown vocal group the Miracles. He was the chief songwriter and producer of the Miracles and well respected in the music business.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987 and awarded the Library Of Congress Gershwin prize for his contributions to popular music.

In 2022 Smokey was inducted into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk Of Fame.

We have seen him before and being originally from Detroit enjoyed all of his great music. His soothing voice is still amazing, entertaining fans for over 50 years. We plan to return soon to this 4 star Diamond Resort.

Push Present Gift Ideas

from the New Parent & Grandparents!

Mywife, Judy, and I welcomed our sixth grandchild, Aurora Reagan, into the world last month and, of course, new parents and babies have certainly been on the brain. When our son-in-law Andrew approached us for push-present ideas to gift to his wife, Alexis, we of course had lots of ideas!

What is a push present you ask? Simply put, it is a gift given as a token of celebration over the birth of a baby. The gift is just for the new mom. It is something that makes her feel special and appreciated after just going through one of the most challenging and most rewarding tasks in life. A push gift puts the focus back on the new mom. She deserves something special that makes her feel cherished. Jewelry offers a tangible reminder of the first few moments with her new child — and of your thoughtfulness — that she can wear every day. The new parent or the new grandparents can choose to present a push gift after the birth of the new addition to the family. No matter who gives the push gift, the goal is to make the new mom feel loved and appreciated.

Birthstone and Personalized Jewelry

Personalized jewelry offers a tailored touch to the push gift concept. It commemorates the birth month of the newest member of the family. Each time the new mom looks at the birthstone jewelry, she remembers the time when she became a mom. Birthstone options come in all categories of jewelry, including earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

Personalized jewelry also starts a tradition for future babies. Add to her collection of push present jewelry to represent all of her children. Like a birthstone, an initial or name plate adds a personalized touch that represents the new family member. If you already know the baby’s name, you can easily purchase a piece of jewelry with the first name or initial before the birth. If you want to symbolize the changing composition of your family, incorporate the initials of the parents.

Sparkling Diamond Earrings

Earrings work well as a push present because they are something the new mom can wear every day and regardless of ring or show size – diamond earrings always fit and make the wearer feel special. Diamond solitaire earrings offer a classic, versatile option, but push present earrings can be any style or shape. The earrings don’t need a special connection to the birth itself. Simply receiving the earrings on the day her child is born is enough to make them special. Each time she slips them into her ears, she’ll fondly remember your love and the birth of her child.

An Additional Band to Complement Her Wedding Ring

The wedding ring she wears every day represents your love and takes her back to your wedding day. It is a very important symbol to show your strength and commitment to one another. The birth of a child is just as monumental as getting married. With a new baby in the picture, that love you share continues to grow. Choose a band that fits beside her wedding ring, paying close attention to the style of the original band to ensure they look good together. We at Padis can provide suggestions for bands that will work well. Each time she gazes at her hand, she’ll not only remember her love for you but also the growing love your family has, thanks to the birth of your new baby.

A New Timepiece

Cell phones may be the go-to way to tell time, but an elegant designer watch is still a relevant and useful accessory in a new mom’s life. Not only will a new watch keep her on time for those pediatrician appointments and play dates; it also decorates her wrist with a sophisticated style. Choose a watch that fits her style and the way she might use it. Luminescent hands and easy-to-read numbers make the watch visible even in a dark nursery or under sleep-deprived conditions.

Whatever your role in the expectant mother’s life, make her baby’s birth special with a push gift. A thoughtful jewelry gift gives her a keepsake she’ll always cherish that reminds her of you and of the day that changed her life forever. Now that you know what a push present is, you’re ready to pick out the perfect gift! Head on over to any Padis Jewelry location and our consultants will be happy to help you pick out the perfect push present.

We treasure the generations of families who allow us to become a part of their most precious moments. Please feel to reach out if we can answer any questions and if we can be of assistance at concierge@padisjewelry.com
