PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY SOLUTION

West River, SD- Are you experiencing numbness, tingling, or pain in the hands and feet? Are you finding it difficult to balance and have a fear of falling? It’s possible you have Peripheral Neuropathy which is caused by nerve damage.

Over time our nerves experience a loss of blood supply from constriction which leads to degeneration. A damaged nerve will start to send abnormal signals to the brain which will bring sensations of burning, tingling, and intense pain. Further, more serious progression of nerve damage will present as numbness. If the sensation loss is found in the feet, the serious risk of falling becomes more prevalent. Nerve damage in your hands could lead to weaken grip and dropping things.

Goals of Treatment:

1) Increase Blood Flow

2) Stimulate Nerve Fibers

3) Decrease Pain

Figure 1 provides a visual of what happens when the blood vessels that surround the nerve become constricted and shrivel up. This prevents the nerve from getting the blood supply and nutrients it needs to survive. As these nerves begin to degenerate it leads to Peripheral Neuropathy.

The problem is you may have been told your options are either to just live with it or take prescription drugs that may temporarily reduce your symptoms but come with uncomfortable and serious side effects.

Our treatments return blood flow and nutrients to the effected area to stimulate the growth and repair of blood vessels and peripheral nerves.

Now for some good news. There is a facility right here in Rapid City, SD that offers hope for relief without having to take drugs with harmful side effects.

Three Factors to Effectively Treat Neuropathy:

1) Find the Underlying Cause

2) Evaluate the amount of nerve damage

3) Determine the amount of treatment required

A new year is upon, as we see 2023 in the rear-view mirror and start making our plans for what 2024 has in store. Unfortunately for a lot of us, the winter months bring one particular season we could ALL do without, cold and flu season.

As the SD HBA health plan memberships nears 350 members enrolled, I want to take this brief time to remind all those members (and those of you still on the fence) of the benefits available to them to help combat the sick days and keep them out of the doctor’s office and on the job.

Along with including Preventative Services on all plan designs so members can get their annual checkups and immunizations, the Wellmark PPO benefit w/ the SD HBA also includes a telehealth appointment service called ‘Doctors on Demand’. In what amounts to a Facetime or video call, members are able to speak with a real Doctor or provider, 24/7, without ever having to leave the house or job site. From Urgent Care issues like cold/flu, coughs, UTIs, COVID, pink eye, to mental health treatments for anxiety, depression, stress, mood disorders, Doctors on Demand gives you the convenience of 24/7 care, without having to spend hours in waiting rooms or missing w ork.

So, whether you know what you’ve got and just need a prescription called into the Pharmacy to avoid that 10pm trip to the ER or need the convenience of professional medical help at the tips of your fingers, Doctors on Demand is yet another incredible benefit that makes our SD HBA health plan a cut above the rest
