Leadership Orientation Leadership Orientation

I would like to provide an overview of my recent trip to Washington, DC for the NAHB Leadership Orientation at the end of March As I embarked on this journey, I was unsure of what to expect from this program, but I can confidently say that it exceeded my expectations.

The orientation began with a comprehensive overview of the various departments within NAHB, where we had the opportunity to hear from the respective teams about their roles and responsibilities within the organization. It became evident that utilizing the resources provided by NAHB is crucial for enhancing our local organization. The NAHB team demonstrated their willingness to support and assist us, and with the convenience of modern technology, they are easily accessible for any inquiries or guidance

Later in the day, we divided into two groups: Executive Officers and Member Leaders. In the Member Leaders sessions, we were privileged to listen to esteemed individuals such as the NAHB Chairman of the Board, Carl Harris, and the Immediate Past Chairman of the Board, Alicia Huey. Both Carl and Alicia shared their personal journeys through the leadership ladder within NAHB, emphasizing the importance of local involvement and how it led to their recruitment to the Board. Furthermore, Donna Franza from HBA Advisory Services delivered a presentation on strategic planning, underscoring the attainability of a vision and the significance of keeping it on the right track.

On the following day, we visited the Department of Labor and received a presentation from OSHA, providing us with a comprehensive understanding of their mission and the reasons behind their focus on safety. Back at the NAHB office, Karl Eckhart, the Vice President of State & Local Government Affairs, enlightened us on effective advocacy for our HBAs and encouraged active participation in local government affairs. I am fortunate to be part of the exceptional Government Affairs Committee at BHHB, which aligns perfectly with Karl's insights.

The orientation concluded with a tour of the NAHB offices, showcasing their commitment to accommodating our needs and providing assistance whenever required. It was a testament to their dedication to supporting our growth and success.

My trip to Washington, DC for the NAHB Leadership Orientation was an enriching and transformative experience. The knowledge gained, the valuable connections made, and the exposure to industry leaders have all contributed to my personal and professional growth. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to applying these insights to further enhance our local organization.

At the beginning of this month, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Washington, DC as one of the select few in the Federation's new EO 20 club Being chosen as one of the nine Executive Officers from different HBAS was such an honor. Our main goal was to strategize and exchange ideas about our homebuilders associations, and I was beyond excited to be a part of this prestigious group.

Throughout our time together, I was truly inspired by the passion and expertise of my fellow executive officers We shared invaluable insights, innovative strategies, and creative approaches to strengthen our individual associations. The atmosphere was electric, filled with collaborative discussions and thought-provoking conversations.

I must say, the ideas and strategies that I absorbed during this trip were mind-blowing I am excited to implement them within our association this year. The knowledge gained from this experience will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our association's growth and success.

Overall, this trip to DC has been an absolute game-changer for me. The opportunity to be a part of the EO 20 club and collaborate with other dedicated professionals in the industry has left me feeling energized and motivated. I am deeply grateful for this experience and can't wait to witness the positive transformations that will unfold in the coming years.

Dear Home Builder Members,

I wanted to talk to you about recruiting for the Homebuilders Association and the amazing benefits that come with being a Spike (named sponsor of a new member)!

As a Spike, your role is crucial in helping our association grow and thrive By recruiting and retaining new members, you not only contribute to the expansion of our organization but also earn Spike credits and achieve different levels of recognition. It's a win-win situation!

One of the fantastic perks of being a Spike is the opportunity to attend the Builders' Show Closing Concert at the International Builders' Show (IBS). If you have recruited at least one new builder or associate member, you will receive two complimentary tickets to the Closing Spike Concert. And if you have recruited at least five new members, you'll be invited to the exclusive Spike VIP section at the concert. In the VIP section, you'll be treated to complimentary food and drinks throughout the show, allowing you to celebrate the end of the week in style

Now, let's talk about how you can become a Spike. To earn this prestigious recognition, you need to accumulate at least six credits. The easiest way to earn credits is by recruiting new members to the Association. For each new builder or associate member you recruit, you will receive one credit Additionally, on the first anniversary of each new member you recruited, you will earn one credit, followed by ½ credit for each subsequent anniversary Furthermore, if you recruit council members to their local association, you will receive ½ credit for each one. Once you reach six Spike credits, you officially become a Spike and a member of the Spike Club, a nationwide network of Spikes dedicated to the growth of their associations. As you continue to accrue credits, your status within the Spike Club will rise

To view your Spike credits and information about the members you have recruited, you can now access nahb.org. Simply log in to your profile and click on the top right-hand corner of the screen to find "My profile." Under the "Memberships" tab, you'll be able to view your Spike credits, and under "Spike Referrals," you can find information on the members you have recruited

If you're interested in becoming a Spike or have any further questions, I encourage you to reach out to us! We will provide you with more information on how to get started and support you throughout your recruiting journey

Thank you for your dedication to our Homebuilders Association and for your contribution to its growth. Your efforts in helping to recruit and retain members are truly appreciated!

Night! Toss like a boss!!

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE

We have exciting news to share, especially if you are involved in the construction industry or have ever dreamed of building your own home in Pennington County

The Black Hills Homebuilders Association's Government Affairs Committee has been tirelessly working alongside Pennington County to address a pressing issue that has been affecting builders and potential homebuilders in our community We recognized the need to reevaluate the pricing of building permits, specifically those including finished basements Through extensive research and collaboration, we have successfully achieved a favorable outcome.

After submitting numerous bids that accurately reflected the true cost of finishing a basement, we engaged in productive discussions with the county authorities I am delighted to inform you that we have reached an agreement to significantly lower the cost per square foot for a finished basement Previously set at a staggering $165 per square foot, we have successfully negotiated to reduce it to $45 per square foot. This achievement is nothing short of extraordinary and undoubtedly a game-changer for builders throughout Pennington County. By slashing the costs permits on finished basements, we have effectively saved our builders and in turn homeowners, a substantial amount of money Whether you are an experienced builder or someone considering building their dream home, this new pricing structure will undoubtedly be a significant advantage.

I'd like to take a moment to express my utmost gratitude to the dedicated members of our Government Affairs Committee They have worked diligently, advocating for the needs of builders in our community and potential homebuilders alike Their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts have made this remarkable win possible As we move forward, please rest assured that the Black Hills Homebuilders Association's Government Affairs Committee remains fully committed to supporting and fighting for the needs of our builders We are dedicated to making our community a place where builders and potential homebuilders thrive. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding this matter or any other issue within our industry, please do not hesitate to reach out to us We are always here to lend a helping hand and provide the best guidance possible.

Best Regard
