BRING YOUR CHECKBOOK Many wedding vendors will offer a special discount during the show. Bridal shows draw in hundreds of brides and many with the same wedding date. Some dates fill up quickly so being able to place a deposit with a vendor you find that you want to book will allow you to secure those professionals.

Why Attend a Bridal Show? P
lanning a wedding can be one of the most stressful events in your life. But it doesn’t need to be! I started GonnaGetWed.com and the GonnaGetWed Bridal Showcases to help relieve stress from Brides! Attending a bridal show and creating a profile on GonnaGetWed. com can help every bride save time, meet with wedding industry experts, get ideas, and see the latest wedding trends and fashions. These tips will help you get the most out of the GonnaGetWed Bridal Show. PRE-REGISTER FOR THE SHOW Save time by registering before the show. Our lines are long, and pre-registration only takes a few minutes and will save you time in the check-in line. You still need to check into the show to get door prize registrations. BRING YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY Bringing your friends and family to the bridal show will help them feel involved and also give you a head-start on gathering help for your wedding preparations. Many brides bring their maids-of-honor and their bridesmaids to help them with decisions. Many others will bring their mothers or soon to be mothers-in-law especially since they may be the ones paying for it all. Finally, don’t forget the GROOM! He can register for prizes, too, and should get involved early in the planning.
BRING CONTACT RETURN LABELS Wedding vendors will often have drawings for prizes at their booths throughout the show. You will save a ton of time and energy by bringing return labels. We recommend including the following info: your name, address, phone number, wedding date, wedding city and email address. TAKE NOTES Or bring your tablet. Just be sure to take notes of vendors you talked to and try to rate them or keep some sort of record of who you liked best. You can also keep notes on ideas, thoughts, and dates of appointments made that day with vendors. TAKE PICTURES Many exhibitors have neat displays and you may get some new ideas. Be sure to get permission from the exhibitor before you take photos. It is also fun to get photos of you and your friends and family attending the show for your wedding album. SET A BUDGET Setting your wedding budget and discussing who will be covering the different costs will help you focus on what to look for at the show. Come prepared with lists of questions to help determine if a vendor is right for you and also fits into your budget.
PREPARE Bring your questions for the different industry professionals. Try to review the vendors ahead of time that will be at the show. This will allow you to seek out and spend time talking to those you are really interested in. REGISTER FOR PRIZES The GonnaGetWed bridal shows are known for offering the best prizes! These are given away throughout the day with bigger grand prize drawings at the end. Every bride and Every groom can register so attend the show together to double your chances. WEAR COMFY SHOES The bridal show is generally 3 hours long so making sure your feet don’t hurt so you can focus on the tasks at hand is important. So wear comf y shoes! STAY ALL DAY Come early and leave late. This will allow you to visit all the vendors and find everything you need. After all, if you tried to go and visit each of the exhibitor’s locations it would take weeks! So take advantage of having them all in one place for the day.

What really gives the wedding a vintage feel is the color scheme and flowers. The way to achieve this in the spring and summer is with faded pastels, a variety of white shades, and lots of natural colors used through leaves and wood. In the fall and winter, try darker jewel tones like maroon and emerald with accents of rose gold. No matter when the wedding is, have fun with colors and choose more than just one accent color.

Gone are the days of dramatic wedding cakes and multiple fondant accents. Wedding cakes in 2016 are all about simplicity with a rustic feel. The trend we love most is unfrosted cakes! These are decorated with flowers and/or fruit, and without the hours of intense labor, they are just as beautiful. Another trend is brush strokes of water-colors on fondant using edible paint. It creates an effortless yet whimsical feel that’s one of a kind.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Depending on the wedding traditions you want on your big day, many brides are opting out of saving the “first-look” for the ceremony. Having a photographer capture the soon-to-be husband’s first look at the beautiful bride is such a candid and heartfelt shot – this trend also allows for the majority of the photos to be taken before the ceremony starts. After the ceremony, a timeless photo is when the bride and groom take their first steps together as husband and wife. Depending on the venue and time, think about having the guests toss confetti, rice or even holding sparklers if it is a night setting. The interaction between the couple and the friends and family is not one to be missed.
INVITATIONS

Just like trends of dresses and color schemes, there is now a style trend of typography. Whether it’s your invitations, seating chart, or dessert menu, typography is now playing a huge part in weddings. It is an art form that can tie your whole wedding theme together. If you love the vintage feel, stick to cursive and flowing letters. Or, if the theme is along the lines of glamour such as “the Great Gatsby” having an art deco font is a great way to add more keen detail to your wedding.

There are two major trends emerging for 2016 wedding flowers – cascading bouquets and succulent accents. The cascade can be comprised of the dominant flower, creating a water-fall from the bride’s hands, or may be accents of greenery. Utilizing succulents in the centerpieces as well as the bride’s bouquet is a great way to add an earthy touch to even the more traditional of ceremonies.

2016 bridal gown trends are delicate details and soft shades. Ivory or champagne, blush or beige, wedding gowns come in a variety of colors! Soft sparkles lying just below layers of tulle and lace give gowns a subtle, delicate, feminine elegance. Brides are also choosing multiple gowns for their big day - a ball gown for the ceremony, an A-line for the reception, a cocktail for the dance. Gone are the days of hideous, wear-once bridesmaid dresses! Full length or knee bridesmaid gown in full sequins give your ladies an elegant Hollywood glamour!

Your wedding is all about the vows, but what people remember is the reception! Whether you went for traditional and soft, or modern and dramatic, your reception décor is where your theme truly comes to life. FLORAL DÉCOR You may opt for flower centerpieces on your tables. Many brides are setting a variety of floral arrangements on their tables, from tall on some to small and short on others. You may also look into having your flowers hanging above you! Not all centerpieces have to be flowers – old wine bottles, books, and succulents also create beautiful table displays. TABLESCAPES Be sure to incorporate your color scheme into your reception. Menu cards and table numbers are a great way to bring back the beauty of your invitations to your reception. Utilizing napkins, chargers and placemats with your colors is a beautiful way to make your reception really pop! LIGHTING Lighting gives your reception a true wow factor! Your DJ should be able to provide you with an uplighting package as well as DJ services. In some venues and themes, dramatic lighting is a great way to set your reception apart. Utilizing the dominant colors of your wedding, as well, is a great way to turn the blank palette of your venue into beautiful masterpiece!

Wedding Tips Things to bare in mind as the big day approaches!
• PICK YOUR DATE WISELY Choosing a day other than Saturday may be less expensive, but it may also require for your guests and wedding party to take more time off of work. Depending on the time of year, that may make it challenging for out-of-town guests to attend. Choose your date wisely!
• TO DRINK OR NOT TO DRINK Whether you like to party or not, having a cash bar isn’t very inviting to your guest. Having everyone getting tanked at an open bar isn’t great either. Try to find an option that will work, like offering a few drink tickets to people or offering free beer and wine. There is a way to find the happy medium between no drinks and free drinks.
• DON’T MAKE GUESTS WAIT You shouldn't have more than 2 hours between ceremony and reception. Plan something fun like a cocktail hour, a tour of downtown, or a wedding scavenger hunt for guests before the reception.
• ANTICIPATE THE NEEDS OF YOUR GUESTS Leave some extra parking spaces toward the front both at the ceremony and the reception for elderly guests. Make sure you have some extra comfortable chairs for people to sit on if need be.
• THINK THE MENU THROUGH Provide alternatives for people who have allergies, dietary restrictions, or are vegan/vegetarians. Having a kids menu is also a good idea! • THINK ABOUT THE WEATHER AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY You can look through the last 50 years of the farmers’ almanac tracking weather trends, but you never know what the weather will be like on your wedding day. If you are getting married outside, it could be hot, it could be cold, it could rain. Face it – it could snow! Make sure you have a back-up plan and that your wedding theme corresponds. • KEEP YOUR GUESTS BUDGETS IN MIND WHEN REGISTERING You and your groom are starting out and you probably need everything to furnish this new life. But your registry should have more than 1000 thread Egyptian cotton sheets, crystal glassware, and big screen TVs. Most likely, your friends and family have lives of their own they have to pay for and many of them may be traveling to your wedding. Your gift registry should have a variety of price points. Sure, your co-workers may team up to buy you something special. But your retired aunt and uncle who still have your cousin living in their basement may need to buy you something a little less expensive – everyone needs new towels!
• GREET EACH GUEST PERSONALLY The trend has been to greet everyone at the wedding either in a receiving line at the back of the ceremony location or to greet them as they are exiting their seats. Whichever way you choose to greet your guest, make sure you DO IT. They traveled here, they bought you a gift, they came for your special day – Say “Hello” & “Thank you”! • FEED THE PHOTOGRAPHER/DJ/BAND ETC. THEY WORK HARD. FEED THEM. ENOUGH SAID. • IT IS YOUR DAY. ENJOY IT AND DON’T FORGET TO HAVE FUN!

# hashtag your wedding The modern bride can have wedding planning at her finger tips. Every detail of your wedding can travel with you everywhere you go! There are a lot of online resources available to help organize your thoughts, attach pictures, write documents, create checklists and stay on top of ALL of the wedding details, but some sites are better than others! GONNAGETWED.COM – Okay, we are a bit partial, but we created GonnaGetWed.com for this exact purpose! There are a lot of details to keep track of and a lot of national websites you can use to organize. But, the national websites don’t connect you with local vendors . GonnaGetWed.com is your one-stop for wedding planning and connecting with the photographers, reception site, florist and more right next door. PINTEREST – Who doesn’t love Pinterest?! Pinterest is an infinite well of new trends, unique ideas, and traditional treasures. However… you don’t want your wedding day centerpieces to be an epic Pinterest FAIL worthy of Buzzfeed! Generate ideas, try them out, but be ready to shift your plans and hire a professional if you need to. INSTAGRAM – See something you love? Snap a pic and # it! Gather all of your ideas together with your #soontobemrs. Also, be sure to share your personal # at your wedding with your guests – you know they will be taking a ton of pictures! Have your guests tag them for double tapping later when you have time!
Planning a wedding is a big task – a really big task! Using a wedding planner (like Gonna Get Wed Planner) is a great way to stay on track. The internet can help you search for and find great ideas, but those “great ideas” may not be right for you or your budget. Connecting with local talent who can help you is going to be the best thing. Talk with local providers and connect with businesses you can rely on – that’s truly the key to a seamless wedding day.

Questions to ask your
WEDDING COORDINATOR QUESTIONS • How many weddings have you planned? • Will you be working on other weddings at the same time as mine? • Have you done other weddings at our site? • Are there specific professionals you recommend or like to use? • Are you willing to make decisions for us if we don’t feel up to the task? • What are some ideas you have for pulling off our vision? • What is the most unique or a favorite wedding you have planned? • What is your secret to staying calm under pressure? • What is a wedding mishap you have encountered and how did you handle it? • How often should we have meetings or communicate? • What happens if you are sick or unable to be there the day of the wedding?
For many, there seems to be not enough hours in a day to handle everything life throws at us. That’s why many find it very beneficial to hire a wedding planner for the big day. These experts can handle coordination, timing, orders, rentals, and, most importantly, your overall vision. Before meeting, make sure to know the vision you have as well as your head count. This will help them decide location, seating, and budget. There are many questions to ask such as if their availability, specialties and services they have, and how much of your wedding they will handle. But we created a list for some other important questions that aren’t asked as often.

DECORATING For Your Big Day
Decorating for your big day can be a stressful and daunting task. There are many questions a bride and groom must ask themselves when deciding how to approach the decorations for their wedding. • What is the theme and look we are trying to achieve with our wedding? • Do we want to rent or purchase our decorations? • If we purchase, what are we going to do with “all of it” after the wedding is over?
Hiring a planner helps to alleviate much of the stress that comes with getting married. They are able to point you in the direction you want for your decorations, make suggestions to complement your décor choices and help coach you throughout the entire process. Event planners are a resource to answer any questions you have. - ALLISON ZINS BLEYENBERG IT’S YOUR DAY EVENTS & RENTALS photos provided by It’s Your Day Events & Rentals
• When will we have time to decorate the reception venue and ceremony spot? • After the party is over, who is in charge of picking up and clearing away all the décor? For some, the answers to these questions are simple. Others may struggle with making these decisions. Many have found it beneficial to turn to a wedding coordinator or event planner for help with all aspects of the wedding and the events leading up to it. As the event planning industry grows, hiring someone has become an option for events of all budget levels.

I DO: THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL UNION The unknowns of stepping into this union called marriage far exceed the knowns for most couples. We “tie the knot” hoping that it doesn’t come loose before death parts us! And yet before long that relationship will begin to unravel without a clear understanding of what the foundation of that union is. The origin of marriage goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden, when God said, “It is not good for man to be alone; I will make him a companion” (Genesis 2:18). We know from the Scriptures that God formed woman from Adam’s side to be a help and be a blessing to him. God, who is Love, brought love to its fullness when he blessed Adam with his wife. And because God is Love (John 4:24), His love is the foundation and strength of the marriage union. The Apostle Paul gives us an awesome definition of the God kind of love. 1 Corinthians 13:48 says, “Love is very patient and kind, never
If both parties within the marriage union will practice this kind of love on a daily basis, what God has ordained will not fail!
jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. His love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him [and her] no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love [God’s love] goes on forever.” If both parties within the marriage union will practice this kind of love on a daily basis, what God has ordained will not fail! In the marriage vows, there are two words that we’re all familiar with: “I do”. In Luke 6:4, Jesus is telling the story of two men who built a house
[a family]. He called one of them wise, the other unwise. The wise man accepted his role of “I do” by taking the lead in exercising love within his household, and when the storms of life came against that union (and they will come), God’s love that never fails kept that house together. So as you make your vows and say “I do”, just remember that a blessed and healthy marriage union is really built on three things: faith, hope and love (Corinthians 13:13) but the greatest of the three, is love. - VICKY & MICHAEL BANG FAITH FAMILY CHURCH

Wedding Budget Figuring out how much to spend on your wedding can be tough – there are a lot of things to consider! How many guests? What type of venue for the reception? 3 Establish a solid budget 3 Determine the type of wedding you would like 3 Look for venues 3 Everything else can fall in line Be an educated consumer! Look for deals. Booking a venue during their off season may yield a discounted rate. Renting decorations may be more affordable than buying. Explore your options – there is always another option. Look at them and choose what is best for you and your groom. The most important thing to think about when planning a budget is the big picture! Yes – this is the most important day of your life, but the point to getting married is to build a life with your spouse. Starting out $20,000 in debt isn’t the best idea. Nor is spending your parent’s retirement savings!
Maybe your ideal wedding is a small personal affair with close friends and family. Or maybe you will invite everyone who follows you on Pinterest! Decide what type of wedding you will have before you start making purchases and paying deposits. Remember, this is his wedding also. Make sure you’re planning something you both will really love.

Vendor Questions QUESTIONS TO ASK VENDORS YOU HIRE
GENERAL CONTRACT GUIDELINES
• Do you have liability insurance?
• Look over the entire contract. If you don’t understand something, ask them! If you have an attorney, you may want them to review the larger contracts.
• Is there a deposit due and when? • When is the balance due? • What is the cancellation policy? • Do you accept credit cards? • How do you handle unforeseen issues? • Do you have a backup plan if something goes wrong on our wedding day?
GENERAL VENDOR HIRING HINTS • Ask friends and family to recommend service providers and venues that were satisfactory. • Talk to your friends who were recently married. They are an excellent source of knowledge. • The first question to ask potential service providers: Do you have my date open? This will save you time and energy if they do not.
• Make sure your contracts all have the date, time, location and a detailed description of all services and items to be provided by the vendor. • Make sure the contract includes ALL fees and how they apply: late fees, overtime charges, gratuities, open-ended charges, etc. Also make sure they include times, if time sensitive, and try to put a cap on prices if they could get out of control. • Contracts must stipulate the deposit amount, due date and all payments and amounts due. • Do not sign if you do not agree with any part of the contract. Instead, negotiate the details and have a new contract drafted that you feel comfortable signing. • Make sure you get a copy of the contract before you leave with both signatures and the date singed.
• Meet with several vendors in each category before you hire any particular one, even if you really loved the first one you met. • Be sure to conduct an interview with a potential vendor, regardless if you have several great referrals for him or her. Your personalities might clash, indicating a wrong fit for you. • Ask for a tour, samples, demos, previews, pictures and referrals from all your vendors before they are hired. Don’t just take their word for it. • Once you find a vendor you want… don’t wait, book them!

CARB CYCLING How does it work?
In order to lose weight, our bodies need the right combination of proteins, carbs, and healthy fats. PROTEIN
HEALTHY SNACKS
Protein builds and maintains muscles. Protein also breaks down more slowly than carbs and fat, which burns even more calories and helps you feel fuller longer.
1. Greek yogurt with fruit and granola
CARBS & STARCHES
2. Cheese sticks – part skim, low fat
Carbs and starches are the preferred fuel source for your muscles and organs, and they come in healthy versions (vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes), and not-so-healthy versions (cakes, cookies, soda, donuts, candy, and many processed foods). Healthy carbs are also crucial for burning calories, and since they break down more slowly than those not-so-healthy carbs, they keep your blood sugar and energy levels steady, and they also keep your calorie-burning furnace hot so it burns more calories!
3. Hard Boiled Eggs
HEALTHY FATS
Healthy fats (unsaturated fats) eaten in moderation help the development and function of your eyes and brain and help prevent heart disease, stroke, depression, and arthritis. Healthy fats also help keep your energy levels steady and keep you from feeling hungry. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
• It fits any lifestyle. • You’ll learn how to shed weight and body fat, and how to make smart lifestyle choices for the rest of your life. • This puts YOU in control. • You’ll feel better and have more energy. • You’ll eat the foods you love. • You’ll build lean, strong muscles. • You’ll be empowered physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. - CR RESULTS | NUTRITION & HEALTH
4. Unsalted almonds or nuts 5. Protein bars or protein shakes 6. Drink at least 64 oz of water for good hydration 7. Peppers, celery, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes – cutup and placed in zip-lock bags so they are easy to grab 8. Reduce coffee, soda, energy drinks with artificial sweeteners

FEATURE
Your wedding day is filled with countless photos and all eyes are on you, so it’s important to plan what kind of makeup you want to wear. These tips will help all your features look their best! BROWS They define your face and give a balanced look, so it is important that they are filled in with powder, pencil or tinted brow gel. Just remember to use a shade that matches. Brows can be a statement, but not on your wedding day. EYES Your eye makeup should be made up of natural tones and just like contouring your face, it is just as essential to contour your eyes. By using a darker shade in your crease, your eyes will appear much larger. Also, remember to use water-proof mascara on the big day. It will last longer and survive against any tears. CHEEKS We cannot stress enough to use bronzer and a little blush! This creates dimension in your face so you aren’t washed out in all of your beautiful wedding pictures. Another tip: avoid anything too shimmery, as this can make you appear greasy in photos. LIPS Don’t settle with just a little gloss! Choose a lipstick darker than your lips, or something bolder, depending on your eye makeup. But remember: either a bold lip or a bold eye, try to only choose one for your wedding day. P.S. avoid heavy amounts of gloss! With lots of kissing, dancing and eating, gloss will be a hassle! FINAL TIPS A good primer is key not only for your skin but for your eyes and even lips too! This will allow for less re-applying and more time for you to enjoy your night! A bright white smile is always a plus as well! Check out DIY’s, take home kits, or talk with your dentist about options!

Go Strapless! Exercise is a great way for brides to take out their stresses as they approach wedding day. For women looking to have their arms, back and shoulders to have that strong toned look by their BIG Day I suggest giving yourself six to eight weeks to tone up, the sooner the better. Be sure to follow a well rounded fitness plan that includes cardio and strength training with an added focus on the upper body. For your bicep and back muscles, focus on “pulling” exercises such as different types of curls, pull-ups and rowing. Your tricep will be engaged by many “pushing” type movements like presses and dips. Burn up your shoulders with various shoulder raise and “pressing” type movements. In general, perform 8-15 repetitions for 3-4 sets at least 3 times per week. Brides should also keep in mind they can’t out work poor nutrition. If you want that great body on your wedding day, you need to eat right AND work out! Put all these components together and you will be ready to go sleeveless, strapless or backless as you walk down the aisle. JAMES LEMKE | LEMKE FITNESS

Appointment etiquette for your morning at the salon.
Now that you’ve said “Yes” to that dress, say “I Do” to your bridal “Do”! Here are a few hair tips to help your wedding day run smoothly! We are confident that if you follow these simple steps your day will be less stressful and more enjoyable for everyone! When going into your hair appointment make sure to wear a button up or zip up top. You don’t want to ruin your just done hair when changing into your wedding gown! Be sure to book your appointment at least 6-8 weeks before your wedding day to ensure your spot is reserved. The Beauty Lounge will even reserve the entire salon for your bridal party and will serve champagne with chocolates during your services! Always schedule your appointments early in the day! It is never fun to be in a rush & being behind schedule on your wedding day is just too stressful! Instead book your appointment an hour or two early so that you may have an enjoyable time while at the salon! Relax a little, after all it’s YOUR day! Don’t forget to bring your veil! Whether it’s just a trial or the big day, it’s always best to bring your veil along. Your stylist needs to see where & how you would like your veil placed for photos. She can also help guide your maid of honor as to how the veil should be applied before your ceremony. Contrary to popular belief, clean, dry hair is best for your bridal Do! Dirty hair will look greasy even after the stylist has finished. So shampoo the night before so that you are ready to be beautified at the salon in the morning! -COURTNEY LYNDE | THE BEAUTY LOUNGE

Once you find the dress of your dreams, be sure you put forth the effort necessary to ensure you will look your very best in it. You will want to focus on and play up the assets that your dress will show off. In addition to your regular healthy diet and cardio program, try adding these specific exercises to your regimen. Each exercise should be done 3 times a week in sets of 10 reps and 4 sets per day. Halter, strapless and open back dresses will feature your upper back. Tone those muscles including lats, traps, rhomboids and deltoids by trying the dumbbell raise. Grasp the dumbbells with your arms in front of you, palms facing your body. Slowly raise the dumbbells up until your arms are straight out in front of your chin. Lower slowly and repeat. (Fig. 1) Gowns with straps or plunging or sweetheart necklines will draw attention to your chest. Those muscles include your pecs and deltoids. Try doing a dumbbell chest press. Lie flat on the floor with your arms forming an “L” shape. Extend arms upward until arms are straight over your head and elbows are straight. Then lower using a controlled motion. (Fig. 2) Spaghetti straps, halter and strapless dresses all feature the arms and shoulders, including your biceps and triceps. The dumbbell shoulder raise will allow you to tone those areas. (Fig. 3) Hold the dumbbells with your arms bent at a 90 degree angle and palms facing your body. Lift your arms over your head until fully extended. Lower and raise again.

Form-fitted, sheath, column, hourglass, mermaid and trumpet style dresses cling to the body, emphasizing the belly, butt and thighs. Your abs, obliques, quads, glutes and hamstrings are the focal points. (Fig. 4) The dumbbell lunge can work most of those areas. Holding the dumbbells straight at your sides, take a large step forward. Keep the back leg straight and bend the front leg as you descend as far as you can. Then step forward with the back foot now making this the front bent leg. For more exercise options, be sure to enlist the help of your local gym trainer and fitness experts. After all, if you are serious, nothing is better than having your very own bootie kicker coaching you all the way to your wedding day!

hairstyles for a
Happily Ever After Y
our wedding day will be the most important day of the year, and what’s the last thing you want? That’s right, a bad hair day. Your chosen locks should compliment, not compete, with the rest of your attire, so it’s important to do a trial and error with a stylist to determine the right “do” for when you say “I do.” First, like any other booking for the big day, do your research for the right hairstylist for you. Although you may love how your hair dresser colors your hair, they may not be an expert in bridal hairstyles. Come prepared with photos from Pinterest or magazines to show he or she to give them a sense of the idea you would
like. One tip we love is to wear white to your consultation to give you a better idea what you will look like on the big day. Next, time how long it will take to achieve your chosen style and add 30 minutes. Wedding days always have hidden dilemmas, so plan ahead. Try a few different styles, and photograph them at different angles to see if you truly love the hairstyle on you. And lastly, discuss with the hair stylist if they will come to you or if you will go to the salon on the big day. If they are able to come to your location, are they able to stay for touch ups throughout the day?
Keep in mind the neckline of your dress for your chosen hairstyle HIGH COLLAR top knot BATEAU NECKLINE low bun V-NECK loose curls ONE SHOULDER side swept bun/fishtail braid STRAPLESS almost anything but we love a loose low bun or chignon

Questions to Ask • Can we schedule a trial run?
•
What kind of space and lighting do you need?
•
Is there an additional cost for a trial run or is it part of the fee if I book your services?
•
Will you bring an assistant or additional help?
•
•
Will you travel? Are there additional fees?
Will you or your assistant style my attendants’ hair and do their makeup?
•
Will you stay to help me with my hair, veil, headpiece and make-up touch-ups after the ceremony? At what additional cost?
•
How many hair styles and makeup can you complete and how long do you need?
•
How long will it take and what is the fee?
•
How long will it take to have my hair and makeup done?
•
•
Do you bring your own equipment and hair products?
If you are not at the wedding, can you provide me with hair products and makeup for quick fixes?
Advice at a Glance •
Choose a hairstyle you are comfortable with. You want to look like yourself on your wedding day.
•
Plan a practice for your hair and makeup to make sure you like the style and colors. Once completed, take photos of the final look so you can refer to them on your day.
•
Don’t make drastic changes to your body right before your wedding. Don’t starve yourself or resort to crash dieting. Instead opt for a 4-6 month exercise routine.
•
Don’t get a brand new haircut before your wedding; just get a trim a few weeks before.
•
Prepare a reasonable weight loss plan and stick to it!
•
Don’t have a facial or any other skin treatments within two weeks of your wedding. You want to have time for your skin to recover and you don’t want red blotchy skin.
•
Ask friends to work out with you. This will keep you motivated and on track.
•
The morning of your wedding, wear a button-down shirt or a dress that can be slipped down over your hips. Do not wear clothing that you will have to pull over your head. You don’t want to mess up your hair and makeup.
•
Do not resort to drastic measures. Taking a dietary supplement may help you lose weight quickly but results will not be permanent.
•
Eat smaller portions and incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet to keep you satisfied.
•
Zit Zapper: use a concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone under foundation.
•
For sexy legs, soak in a bath for several minutes to soften hair. Then use a moisturizing shaving gel and shave in the opposite direction of hair growth.
•
If you are having your makeup professionally done, purchase or ask for samples so that you’ll be able to do touch ups throughout the day.
•
Carry a supply of blotting tissues so you can keep the shine off your nose and forehead.
•
Take it easy on the tan. Don’t try to cram in two months
TIPS FROM THE EXPERT THE BEAUTY LOUNGE
of tanning in one week. For spray on tanning have your last treatment at least one week prior to the wedding.
(A pound a week is the healthiest.)
Always ask your stylist for extra pins and hairspray for emergency touch ups at the ceremony or reception. Wind and rain can often make for little fly-aways that can easily be tamed with these two simple items. Have your maid of honor keep them in a small clutch so that help is just a step away! The Beauty Lounge has travel size hairspray perfect for the occasion!

PARTY GAMES
to tell your MOH about
photo by Greg & LaRae Photography
Your Bridal Showers and Bachelorette Parties are a great way for friends and family to get to know each other! Be sure to let your MOH know what kind of party you would like to have and what you’re hoping to get out of it – gifts or quality time! BRIDAL PARTY FIELD DAY What better way for your bridesmaids & groomsmen to meet than a field day! Channel your inner-child with a little fun competition with sack races, obstacle courses, and other fun contests. This will help any awkward first-time meetings and really bonds your wedding party. NEWLY-WED GAME Before the bridal shower, have the Maid of Honor ask the Groom a series of questions about your relationship, fun facts or interests. You could even record him answering to play back during the shower. Then during the shower, it’s the bride’s job to answer what she thinks her future-husband said!
BACHELORETTE SCAVENGER HUNT This may not be a new idea, but it’s a classic. Chances are, not all of your bridesmaids know each other so this is a perfect game to get everyone involved! Create a variety of tasks each team needs to complete throughout the night when going bar to bar. The team with the highest amount of points gets a prize! WISDOM TREE Although this isn’t a game, it’s a great way for everyone at your wedding to be involved. Many times guests are asked to leave advice, and we love the idea of writing the tips in a picture. Find a drawing of a tree and when the guests arrive they can write heartfelt or humorous advice in the ‘Wisdom Tree.’ When it’s complete we love the idea of having it framed for a beautiful and genuine art piece to hang in your home. WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT At your Bridal Shower, have your guests write words of encouragement to both the bride and
the groom. Seal their advice in an envelope and then gift it to the couple on their 1st Anniversary! HOBBIES SHOWER This is a great idea for a couples shower! If the Bride and Groom have a particular hobby or activity they like to do together, center the gift giving on their hobby. If the couple likes to go camping, the party theme and gifting can be focused on helping them gear up for their next trip! HOURS OF THE DAY SHOWER Guests can join in the fun for this shower theme! When you send out your invites, assign each guest a segment of the day ( 8am – 10 am, 10am – 12 pm, etc). Guests purchase gifts that tie into that particular segment of the day! Your bride will love to see the creativity of her guests’ gift giving and everyone at the party enjoys seeing everyone else’s ideas!

Advice at a Glance • Gifts for your bridesmaids may be presented at the bridesmaids’ luncheon, the rehearsal dinner or before the wedding as everyone is getting ready.
APPOINTMENTS
• The groom gives presents to his groomsmen at the bachelor party or rehearsal dinner. • Gifts for attendants may be the same or different. However, if they are all the same you might want to consider personalizing them. • Gifts for child attendants are either taken care of by the bride or given by the bride and groom as a couple. These gifts can either be given before the ceremony or at the rehearsal dinner. • Give your parents their gifts at a time when you are alone together so it is more personal and special. • If you and your groom wish to exchange gifts, you can do so the night before the wedding or on your wedding night. Consider doing this alone as it will feel more intimate. • The earlier you register, the better. Your close friends and family may want to purchase engagement gifts for you. Be sure to check your registry often for discontinued items. • Call before going to a store to register because some stores may require an appointment. • Give yourself plenty of time when registering because it can be time-consuming.

Gone are the days of sending and receiving the same old invitation in the mail. Today, the possibilities are endless when it comes to wedding stationery design. This includes more than the invitation, but all stationery details from the time you announce your wedding day. Schedule an appointment early with a stationery professional to discuss your wedding theme, colors, and important elements so that you incorporate your personality before, during and after the big day. A stationery professional can help you customize the design concept for all of your wedding papers from save-the-dates and invitations to the menus and seating chart at the reception. Selecting the appropriate paper elements, colors, fonts and printing method breathes life into your design, and helps guide and complement your many wedding details. Invitation etiquette
T
he guest list is set, but how exactly do you address the envelopes? Who comes first, and what is this “and guest” business? Follow these simple guidelines to get your invitations to the post office in no time.
• Check your guest list to ensure guest names and addresses are correct. • Be sure to use formal names; no nicknames or initials. Always spell out titles or degrees, like Doctor. • Always use Mr. and Mrs. for married couples with the same last name. If the married couple have different last names, then use Mr. and Ms. and place the names on the same line in alphabetical order • If a couple is not married but living together, use Mr. and Ms. and place the names in alphabetical order on separate lines. • Children's names should go on the inner envelope. If you're not using an inner envelope, be sure the children's names go on a separate line under the parents' names. (If children's names are left off of an invitation, it implies they are not invited.) Children over the age of 18 who are living with their parents should receive their own invitation. • Women who are widowed should be addressed using their late husband's name with Mrs. as the title. • When inviting single persons who are welcome to bring a guest, use Mr., Ms. or Miss, followed by their name and "and Guest" on the inner envelope. If you’re not using an inner envelope, put the guest on a separate line. If you know whom he or she will be bringing, feel free to include that person's name on a separate line on the envelope • All words in the address should be spelled out, including street names and other identifiers, like Apartment or Post Office Box. The names of the city and state should also be spelled out. • The return address should go on the back flap of the envelope. Much like the guest’s address, all words in the return address should be spelled out. - PAPERWERKS | SIOUX FALLS, SD

FONT PAIRINGS to talk to your designer about
Modern A mixture of Sans Serif typefaces are becoming a popular choice for modern looking invitations for their bold look and high contrast. This invitations uses a large x-height font thats size contrasts well with the same font at a much smaller point size. The range in sizes that this font is displayed in make it a successful invitation design.
Vintage Multiple decorative fonts are used in this invitation design. The contrast between the two is enough of a difference to distinguish hierarchy between the fonts. A condensed font and extended font are also used. These two are used sparingly and on a small scale. Without the use of such different font sizes for this invitation, these four fonts would definitely not go well together. But, by varying the use and size, enough contrast is created to make this invitation clear and communicate well.
photos by Engage Paperie
A detail that should not be overlooked, your wedding invitations are the very first impression to your guests of the style and tone of your wedding. A successful font pairing can communicate your theme and can be carried over through out all of your wedding stationery.
Traditional A script and serif font pairing are the classic choice when it comes to wedding invitations. Depending on which script you choose, most serif fonts make a good contrast to the curved edges of a script. Even though these typefaces are similar in weight, the contrast between their letter-forms make them pair well together.
Retro This retro-style invitation has a lot of characteristics of a clean, modern design, but uses a few more decorative fonts. A script is paired with a sans serif typeface that uses an outlined version and a regular version. The pairing of the outlined and filled in font is successful because they have such a contrast, and are used in different sizes. This invite is clear and easy to read because of the organization of the list of items. The same font is used for each heading as well as subhead, making it easy for the reader to quickly glance over it and understand the message.
INVITATIONS & STATIONERY | 53
WHAT DOESN’T WORK... With so many typeface options, it is easy to get carried away when designing your wedding invites. Remember to always stick to readable fonts that have a lot of contrast and communicate your wedding theme and style.
two scripts

Script fonts work great to add a flourish of elegance to your invitation, but don’t get carried away. The same script font can be used multiple times in your invite, just make sure it is the only script you are using. Many script fonts are similar, so if you use multiple scripts their will not be enough contrast between the two to communicate your message.
t00 many It is easy to get carried away with using too many typefaces in your invitation. Stick to two or three versatile fonts that can carry your wedding theme across all of your stationery. Multiple fonts that are very similar just create confusion and draw attention away from the information.
Too similar
These two serif font’s may seem similar enough to look the same, but their lack of contrast and similarity make them too alike to communicate well. Always make sure that their is a clear difference in each of the typefaces you are using.

Questions to Ask • What are our options regarding the different pieces that makeup the wedding invitation, and how do they affect the cost? • Can you print additional pieces to include with the invitations, such as maps/direction cards and accommodation cards? • What are our printing and paper options, and how do they affect the cost? • Can we see samples of different printing techniques, paper styles and type styles? • When do we need to place an order?
• Do we assemble the invitations and stuff envelopes ourselves? • What is the difference in cost, if any, between ordering extra invitations up front or after the initial order has been placed? • Will we be able to see a proof before any pieces are printed? Do you do calligraphy? If you don’t, do you work with someone who does? Does he/she give discounts to your customers? • If you do calligraphy: What are your fees? What do they include?
• When would the invitations be ready? • Is there an extra fee for addressing envelopes?
Advice at a Glance • Try to order all stationery items at the same time. • When ordering invitations, be sure to order extras for keepsakes, guests who get added to your list later and extra invitations needed because of mistakes made while addressing them. • If you will be inviting a friend or family member to bring a date but you do not know the date’s name, address the outer envelope to your friend only. On the inner envelope you can include the words “and Guest” after your friend’s or relatives name. • Registry information should be noted on the invitation or included in the envelope.
NOTES
• The words “request the honor of your presence” are traditionally reserved for religious ceremonies. Phrases like “request the pleasure of your company” or “would be delighted for you to attend” are typically used for a civil ceremony or reception. • If you are unsure about the proper etiquette on invitation wording, consult with your local invitation specialist for his/her recommendations, especially where divorced families apply.

How to
STYLE Your Body Type THE PEAR OR TRIANGLE – Wider at the hips than at the bust
THE RECTANGLE – Proportional through the bust
LOOKING FOR dress that de-emphasize lower half and brings width to your upper half. A portrait neckline helps widen your shoulders, as do capped, pouf, balloon, melon, or Juliet sleeves. You may also add a little more to your bodice with an applique, beading, or lace overlay. Look for a plain skirt with high waist line such as an empire waist.
LOOKING FOR dresses that will create curves for you! An A-Line skirt is a great option to accentuate a slender frame which will also give a gentle curve to your frame. A Bateau neckline coupled with a Ball Gown skirt will also help create the illusion of an hourglass shape.
AVOID dresses that will call attention to your
shape, such as the clingy sheath or mermaid styles, and necklines that cut inward such as halters. Also, steer clear of full skirts with heavy folds, ruffles, bows, beading, and bustles. FULL-FIGURED – You have a fuller bust, hips and waistline. LOOKING FOR dresses that create an elongating
silhouette with a high waistline and skirt that will give the body movement with each step down the aisle and dance floor! A-Lines with a heavy fabric and Ball Gowns with a natural waist should accent your shape beautifully! AVOID Mermaid, Sheath and Empire skirts. Pay attention also the material the skirt is made from. Lighter fabrics may be more clingy and unforgiving PETITE – Your short height is proportional to bust & hips LOOKING FOR dresses that show off the right
curves and elongate the body. A-line dresses look great on petite body types, as do Sheath dresses. Try on a Tea Length dress as well! These cute and unique dresses show off our legs and are great for a summer wedding with whimsy! AVOID Ball Gowns have such a full skirt that it may
make you look more short.
AVOID dresses which don’t create curves for you. A Trumpet or a Mermaid style will not give you a curve defining shape. THE INVERTED TRIANGLE – Full bust in relation to your hips LOOKING FOR dresses that will give you the illusion of an hourglass. Ball Gowns with either a natural or a drop waist, as well as the Mermaid and the Trumpet skirts will give your body a nice silhouette. A Sweetheart neckline or a Halter will give you accent your bust well. AVOID dresses that don’t create definition for
your lower half. An Empire or Sheath skirt will just hang without highlighting your curves along your hips and waistline. THE HOURGLASS – Full bust & hips with small waist LOOKING FOR styles which will accent your hour-
glass features. Mermaids, Trumpets and an Ball Gown with a drop waist nicely accent your curves. A Sweetheart neckline as well as a V will also nicely feature your full bust. AVOID skirts that DON’T accentuate your curves!
Avoid an empire waist line as well as embellishments which will draw attention to your neckline or hips.

DEFINE bridal YOURstyle EMPIRE WAIST
MERMAID
A-LINE
TRUMPET
BALL GOWN
The empire waistline sits just below the bust from which the dress cascades down to the floor. Usually made with a lighter fabric, the empire waist helps hide the lower half as well as enhance the bust. This style also helps elongate petite brides!
The Mermaid style is characterized by a fitted skirt through the hips with a dramatic flare at the knee. This style highlights natural curves and is ideal for curvy confident brides! The Mermaid can be very constricting, so if you’re looking for a fun night on the dance floor - a different dress may be better.
The A-Line is recognized by the narrow cut through the bodice with the skirt extending out along the body in the shape of an A. The A-Line is a classic style which fits many brides, but if you are looking for something a little more unique and attention getting, the A-Line may not be right for you.
The Trumpet, often confused with the Mermaid, is a flattering style for curvy brides looking for a little bit more movement in their dress. The Trumpet has more of an A line fit, with a slight flare at the knee through to the hem. It is less dramatic than the Mermaid, but offers brides a little more panache than the A-Line
The Ball Gown is one of the most traditional skirts for wedding dresses. The bodice is fitted with the ball gown skirt flowing from either the natural waist or a drop waist (aligned more with the hip bones). This skirt style is very forgiving of full hips and legs. Look out for the weight of the skirt - that may inhibit your dance moves at the reception!
ASYMMETRIC

STRAIGHT
V-NECK:
BATEAU:
Also know as the One-shoulder or the Grecian, the Asymmetrical neckline flatters a fuller figure. Styled with a ball gown or an A-Line skirt, the Asymmetrical neckline is very flattering.
Shaped like the top of a heart, the Sweetheart neckline is great for accenting a smaller bust and is very flattering for larger busts.
The Straight or Horizontal neckline is also available with straps. The strapless straight line is great for petite frames. The straight lines helps create length across the shoulders.
Also called the Off-theShoulder, the V-Neck is a classic wedding neckline style which sits just below the shoulder accenting the collarbone. Helps create an hourglass look for a pear or smaller bust.
Bateau follows the curve of the collarbone to the very tips of the shoulders. This neckline is flattering for smaller busts. The Bateau has a classic elegant style.

which cut
FITS YOU? Diamonds come in all shapes and sizes – Here are some important things to know about your diamond!
MARQUISE
CUSHION CUT
PRINCESS CUT
ROUND DIAMONDS
Marquise diamonds offer couples an opportunity to buy a smaller carat and have a more impressive looking ring. Because of the longer, oval shape a 1 carat marquise may end up looking larger than a 1 carat round. Turning the marquise on its side is also a popular trend.
Cushion cuts are also know as pillow-cut diamonds. These stones are more squared with rounded edges. Paring the cushion cut with a halo is a popular trend among 2016 engaged couples.
Princess Cut can refer to both the square and the rectangular shaped diamonds. As long as it has 4 corners, it’s a princess cut. The sharp corners, which characterize this shape, are more likely to be damaged as well as create snags on clothing.
Round is a very popular engagement ring style for 2016. Adding a halo around the center stone is a way to make a smaller carat look more impressive!
ACCENTS & WEDDING BANDS Brides and Grooms have been opting for a more symmetrical look with the Bride’s wedding band. Rather than buying one band, couples are buying two bands for either side of the ring or choosing a wrap or guard for the engagement ring. Very thin bands with diamonds may cause problems – the smaller the band, the less metal securing the diamonds in place. The thin bands look pretty, but you may end up losing some of your precious diamonds if you aren’t careful!

Let’s Talk Metal: The most practical side of ring shopping
E
verybody has heard the sayings “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” and “a diamond is forever,” but have you ever thought about the metal into which the diamonds are set? Or how the style of ring that is chosen may affect the lifespan of a ring? Often times, the practical side of choosing one’s “forever ring” is overlooked, resulting in recurring problems, costly repairs and dissatisfied customers. Just like in every industry, jewelry also goes through trends and fads. From the newest designer engagement rings and wedding bands to the hottest trends in colored
metals and colored diamond fashions, the possibilities seem almost endless! Knowing what styles you can see yourself wearing for a long time and the pros and cons of different metals can help to make your decision a little easier. The comparison chart below introduces some of the most commonly used metals and provides a comparison to consider when purchasing your ring. The latest trend in engagement rings has been a micropavé vintage design usually set in either platinum or white gold. Micropavé is a type of setting where several small diamonds are set close together and held in by several
small prongs. Though the look is exceptional, customers often fail to notice the future maintenance the ring is likely to need, which can become very costly. Though white gold still seems to be the favorite, yellow gold and two-tone combinations are making a huge comeback! The best advice – stick to what you like and feel most comfortable wearing, but be informed about your purchase and the possible maintenance the ring could require within the years to come. - THE DIAMOND ROOM | SIOUX FALLS, SD

KEEP YOUR RING
clean
Knowing the fundamentals of ring care is a great way to ensure ever-lasting beauty. SPARKLING AND SHINY scheduling maintenance appointments with your jeweler at least once a year is important to ensure the prongs are tight, the diamond isn’t loose and there are no hairline cracks in the shank. There is also usually a professional “shine-up” included too. In addition, always remove your ring when cleaning or touching harsh chemicals as bleach or other cleaning agents can dull the finish of a ring – which means less sparkle for you! SAFE AND SOUND Purchasing insurance is a necessity to protect your financial investment in the event that something gets lost, stolen or damaged. You may also strongly consider getting your jewelry appraised every five years as the cost of diamonds and precious metals go up. If you were to lose a ring that was appraised 10 years ago, the insured value would be far less than the actual replacement cost. Also, follow the rule to not remove your ring in public. Since washing your hands in a public restroom is a must, you will need to resist the temptation to remove your ring while you’re lathering up so you don’t have to worry about leaving it at the sink, or dropping it down the drain. CLEAN AND POLISHED Make sure to handle your diamond sparingly since your fingers provide enough oil from your skin to alter the way your diamond looks and always clean your diamond regularly. One simple way to easily clean your ring is to soak the diamond in an ammonia-based household cleaner overnight, once or twice weekly. In the morning, simply remove the diamond form the cleaner and brush it off with a soft, clean toothbrush to remove any leftover dirt. Finally, rinse the ring and diamond with water and wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth.

JEWELS FOR EVERYONE The bride isn’t the only one who will be wearing jewels at your wedding – don’t forget about your bridesmaids! When setting your girls up for their style, point them in the direction you would like. If you want the ‘Maids to wear a particular style of jewelry, it may be best to find them yourself and gift them to the girls during the Rehearsal Dinner. One popular trend in Bridesmaid jewelry is statement earrings - large teardrop jewel earrings in the wedding color palette are a great way to adorn your bridesmaids.
Another popular trend is delicate, asymmetrical necklaces. The length of the necklaces will vary based on the neckline of the dresses, but 2016 is showing trends of delicate metal strands with small pearl or gem pendants in any length. Choosing jewelry to show her how much she means to you is another popular trend for 2016! Simple bracelets and necklaces with the infinity symbol are also very popular amongst brides and their bridesmaids. - GUNDERSON’S | SIOUX FALLS, SD

Questions To Ask • How long does it take to order rings or do you have them ready to take home?
• Do you have loose diamonds to choose from?
• Can a ring be resized later or does the decoration on it prevent this?
• If so, what is the cost and how long does it take?
• Is there an additional charge to have a ring resized once it comes in?
• Do you engrave? • If not, can you recommend a jeweler who engraves? • How much is the item(s) we like?
• Once we’ve decided what we want, will you show us sample arrangements? • What are the prices of the bands? Hers?/His?
Advice at a Glance • Many couples choose to have their rings engraved on the inside with their initials, wedding date, a short phrase or something else that is meaningful to them. • Machine engraving is cheaper than hand engraving; however, the person that does the hand engraving makes a deeper cut which is a longer-lasting inscription. • Make sure to put in writing exactly what you want your inscription to say. Keep a copy for your records.
• Brides shouldn’t wear a ton of jewelry on their wedding day; less is often more! Items to choose from include bracelets, earrings, necklaces and other rings. At most, pair only two of these items along with your wedding rings. •
If you choose to wear a necklace, it should be small and discreet, no longer than 14-16 inches and never low enough to emphasize cleavage. In addition, pearls shouldn’t be larger than the largest pearl on the wedding dress.
TIPS FROM THE EXPERT gunderson’s There are a variety of metal choices available for your groom’s ring – How do you choose? TIMELESS PRECIOUS METALS Platinum or Gold of any karat are timeless precious metal types that groom’s wedding bands are constructed in. Precious metals have intrinsic value, offer a variety of colors including white, yellow and rose, can be sized for a lifetime of wear. While precious metals will scratch with wear, most are easily re-finished to remove scratches. If you are sentimental and always want to wear the ring that was blessed at your wedding, choose Precious Metal for your wedding band.
ALTERNATIVE NEW AGE METALS AND MATERIALS New metal trends for men come and go. Today we see wedding bands crafted in Steel, Cobalt Chrome, Tungsten, Titanium, Ceramic and Wood. While appealing due to durability claims and/or price, there are many drawbacks to consider. Alternative new age metals have no intrinsic value, are not able to be re-sized, cannot be re-finished as they scratch, and some can easily chip, dis-color, or break due to every day wear. While no single metal has all positive qualities or can be worn completely care free. You will be happiest with your band investment after researching all of the metals to find which one fits best with your lifestyle.

DESIGNING THE
PERFECT TABLESCAPE O
ne of my favorite things as a planner/designer is collaborating with couples on their wedding tablescapes. Not only do you want the tables to look appealing for your guest but, tablescapes should also help capture the overall feel of a wedding. Creating the perfect tablescape can be broke down into these few elements: COLOR Choosing neutrals such as taupe, white, or ivory work great to use as your base table linen color. Then, add in touches of your accent colors. Perhaps add your accent colors with a table runner or overlay. Or use these colors as accents in your flower arrangements. TEXTURE A luxurious table scape always has texture. Whether it be a satin tablecloth or a variety of different floral, make sure to use a variety of texture to add depth and intrigue to your tablescape. AMBIANCE Lighting can impact the feeling of your tablescape dramatically. Add a variety of candle light to set a softer tone for your tablescape. Or perhaps highlight your centerpieces with pin spotted lighting design for a more dramatic feel. No matter what your wedding concept, follow these few guidelines and you are sure to wow your guests with your tablescapes. LUCY HENGLEFELT | OWNER/LEAD DESIGNER REDEFINED DESIGNS & EVENTS

Deep Bolds WEDDING + COLOR Wedding Wisdom The color palette is more than just the flowers you choose or the color of your shoes – your palette should carry throughout your entire wedding! From the invitations to the table dÊcor, your color palette says a lot about you as a couple. Deep, bold colors like red and purple are great choices for weddings in the fall and winter. These bold colors also show a deep, passionate personality and the confidante air of an independent couple. Be sure to also incorporate a neutral or two into your palette.

Perfect Pastels WEDDING + COLOR Wedding Wisdom Pastels make for beautiful bouquets, dresses, and vintage details! Corals, pinks, peaches, and turquoise are popular colors for spring and summer weddings. These soft palettes compliment traditional, romantic ceremonies and receptions. When looking to pair your pastels, be sure to look at the color wheel. You want to pair colors that are opposite on the color wheel, like coral and turquoise. Include a neutral color as well, like gold, gray, or white to help round out your palette.

Navy Delight WEDDING + COLOR Wedding Wisdom Blue is a color just about everyone loves! A shade of blue can be paired with almost every color on the spectrum: pink, yellow, red, coral, gold, and green…even another shade of blue looks great with blue! We love the trend to use a dark navy or royal blue as your dominant color and use your palette to add in warmer touches throughout the wedding. Dark blue shoes under a white dress is to-die-for, table décor is delightful, and the bridesmaids’ dresses are dazzling – choose blue and you won’t be disappointed!

Gorgeous Greens WEDDING + COLOR Wedding Wisdom When selecting your colors, it's important to choose colors you know you love! No one wants to look at their wedding photos ten years from now and hate their colors. Open your closet – what colors do you tend to wear? What colors have you used to decorate your home? These are great places to start developing your unique palette. Greens can be a gorgeous color for your wedding day! Whether you choose a cool green color with shades of blue added in (like turquoise) or a more warm shade with hints of yellow (like sage), green can be a beautiful color to ground your palette. Fortunately, because almost every flower has green stems, many beautiful flowers pair well with green!

Personal MAKING IT
• You both need to be into it. If only one of you wants to write vows, maybe what you should do instead is write private letters to each other. That way you can still share your heart with each other.
Writing your own vows is a great opportunity to share your commitment to your future spouse with your friends and family during your ceremony. There are some things you need to take into consideration before the big day!
• Check with the officiant. Sometimes they can help you. Sometimes they aren’t allowed. Check first and you will be in the clear!
• Schedule the time to do it. Again… Do not even try to wing it! Your wedding day is a chaotic mess of love and flowers. Don’t leave something as important as writing our own vows to the last minute. Take the time to sit down weeks before hand and think about your relationship, what it means to you, and why you are making this commitment to each other.
• Plan early. You do not want to “wing it” – that only goes well in movies (where someone memorized the script pretending to wing it!)
• Practice OUT LOUD. You will feel silly. Do it while you’re driving. Everyone talks to themselves in the car. You’ll look like all the other crazies driving around.
• Create an outline. Every great speech begins with an outline.
• Don’t forgot to talk about your future together. Your vows are about you as a couple. You may be writing your own vows to back away from the traditional “in sickness and in health…” but remember, those vows are written for a life time.
• Keep it SHORT and sweet. Yes, we are all there for your big day. But please, keep it short, there is a party to get to. • Remember your audience. If you first met because he threw beads at you during Mardi Gras… that may not be the best story to recite during your vows. Saying you were at a parade and your eyes connected through a mass of people and you knew there was something special about him… a much better version of the same story.

HONORING
Loved Ones
photos by studiofotografie
At almost every wedding, there’s someone whom we wish could have joined in the celebration. Whether it’s a parent or grandparents, family or friends, there are some beautiful and heartfelt options of honoring the memory of loved ones who passed prior to your vows. PHOTO DISPLAY A photo display may be the easiest. Utilize some beautiful frames which compliment your theme and have them set up at both the reception and ceremony. Displaying pictures of your grandparents’ wedding, if you have them, is also a great way to honor family. Your extended family will love to see these old photos and there is something magi-
cal and timeless about wedding photos from previous generations! If you have the photos displayed at both the ceremony and reception, be sure to assign someone to deliver and set up the display between the ceremony and the reception! JEWELRY Wearing jewelry your grandmother gave you is another great way to honor the matriarchal women of your life. Pendants with family member’s photos or initials also photograph very well and may be a great memory for your wedding photo album for years to come! CANDLES Lighting candles at the altar to remember loved ones is a very common and traditional way to honor loved ones. Just make sure someone remembers to light them prior to the ceremony starting. CEREMONY PROGRAM A simple tribute in the ceremony program is a thoughtful way to acknowledge the loved ones lost in your life.
MOMENT OF SILENCE A moment of silence to remember loved ones is also a great way to incorporate their memory into your wedding, either during the ceremony or before the toasts at the reception. SAVE THEM A SEAT setting aside a chair is also a way to acknowledge the love you have for the person missing. When planning your tribute, be sure to consider the emotional impact it will have on you as well as your guests. If the loved one passing is very recent, emotions may still be sensitive to some of your guests. Be considerate – Honor your loved ones, but remember this day is a celebration of your love and new life together!

RENTAL DECOR As you set your budget for your big day, remember that renting rather than buying will lower costs and create less hassle (not to mention less cleaning!). In fact, you can often find all of the items you need - chairs, linens, dishes, decor and more - in one store. However the amount of choices may be overwhelming; so let us help you narrow them down.
Hottest Items of the Year FOOD VARIETY No more is the simple buffet line and cake cutting - rather brides are opting for food stations and candy bars. Specialty food features such as popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cone machines have replaced the basic appetizers and desserts. Elegant punch fountains or iced tea served in glass beverage dispensers put a unique spin on drink serving. SPECIALTY LINENS Brides want to make the head table "pop"! Although black, white, and ivory are always a popular choice for guest's tables, textured rosette linens, gold sequins, and bold stripe color runners can emphasize the head table, dessert table and guest book table perfectly. HANGING FOCUS What is more beautiful than a crystal chandelier sparkling above you for your first dance? Or bistro lights lighting the way to your head table? Whether it is a chandelier, sheer draping, or even lanterns, the focus of decor this year seems to be hanging from the ceiling. THE (CUP) CAKE STAND A cake? Not anymore! Budget minded brides have forgone a cake and instead chosen individual cupcakes or desserts for their guests. Envision things like a towering stand made to hold 150 perfectly frosted cupcakes; a layered display of wood slabs each holding a different delicious flavor of pie; or perhaps a shiny metallic stand that will hold brownie bites and cookies. Regardless of theme, a stand helps make your dessert table a work of art. photos provided by ABC Rentals

• Do you have liability insurance? • Can you provide a list of references who have had weddings here recently?
Choosing a reception venue is a critical step in the wedding planning process. This is true for several reasons. 1) It is the place where you and your loved ones will spend most of their time. 2) It is where many of the most important wedding traditions happen (first dance, speeches, cake cutting, etc.). 3) It is where the fun happens! You don’t want to leave anything to chance. You want to choose a venue that employs experienced experts who will help you every step of the way.

10 CATERING TIPS 1. Does price include delivery and setup? Some companies may have a delivery and/or mileage fee. 2. Can I try the food before I decide what I want to order? Most reputable caterers will invite you (and maybe a few guests) to “try” their foods. Be sure to find out - if there are food allergies or dietary restrictions - can the recipes be altered. 3. Are real plates and real silverware included in this price? If not, are they available or will the caterer at least provide disposables? 4. Who is responsible for clean up? Find out if you will need to provide volunteers or if the caterer will take care of bussing off the tables. 5. What kind of service (if any) is included? Will they just set up a self serve line or do they have staff that will actually help serve the meal? 6. Can the head table be served? Some companies may include this service at no extra fee. 7. What if there are more guests than what I paid for? What if there are less guests than what I paid for? Find out in advance if the caterer will have additional food available and how/when the charges will need to be taken care of. How much (if any) additional food might be available for that “just in case?”
photo provided by MarketPlace Catering
8. What about the “leftovers” (if any)? Be sure to ask how this is handled. Some caterers will and some will NOT leave food. Proper refrigeration must be available. (This is especially important if you have fewer guests than your estimate.) 9. What condiments are included in my price? Salt & Pepper, ketchup, butter, etc. 10. Has gratuity been included in my price quote or am I supposed to pay that separately? Caterers will expect either 15% or 18% as a standard gratuity amount. Some of the most common things that are missed by NOT confirming in advance are the following: • Punch cups. Do they come with the punch or are you responsible to provide ? • Disposables for the appetizers. Will caterer bring these or are you supposed to? • Cocktail napkins? • Plates and forks for the cake? • Will the caterer cut/plate the cake? - MARKETPLACE CATERING | SIOUX FALLS, SD

planning around dietary restrictions It is very likely you will have guests attend your weddings that are children, vegetarians or have dietary restrictions. The last thing you want to do is not have them feel welcome to eat at your reception. Here are some tips to help you plan your menu so everyone can enjoy your delicious dinner! • Talk to your caterer about different meals they can provide for you at the beginning of the reception planning. Knowing what your options are, and the associated costs, can help you plan accordingly. • Provide options on the RSVP card. This is the first and best opportunity your guests have for making special requests at your reception. If you are already presenting them with an entrée option, make sure to also include a line for children. Also add a line for dietary restrictions. If they are dairy or gluten free, or have if anyone has an allergy, your guests will be able to indicate that on the RSVP card. You can always call and follow up to make sure you know the extent of their restrictions.
• Have a separate serving station. If you are doing a buffet, have the gluten free or vegetarian buffet separate so no one mistakenly fills their plate from the wrong serving tray. Plan for extra as well – there will always be someone who didn’t indicate on their RSVP card they were gluten free who may prefer that option. If you are doing a plated dinner, make sure the servers have a copy of which tables need to receive the different meals. • Don’t let it get to you – if you have guests that choose not to eat, or have the servers bring them a meal different from one indicated on the RSVP card… just let it go. Don’t let this last minute change ruin your evening and fun! It is really hard to plan a meal for 50 – 350 people and have them all happy. Some people will love the food you choose – others won’t! Work with a caterer or venue that is prepared for the inevitable last minute menu changes.

TIPS FROM THE EXPERT hy-vee catering

As catering professionals, we offer 2 great tips to brides: 1. Eat on time. Your guests want to celebrate your day with you; not wait for you. It doesn’t matter what time you say; just ensure that is the time you are there. 2. Don’t forget about your guests. While you should pick a menu that suits you, remember that there are many other palates to satisfy. That being said, don’t be afraid to stray from the typical menu and make it a little bit “you”. - HY-VEE | SIOUX FALLS, SD

checklist Wedding cake
Not all cakes are created equal. They come in almost every size, shape, height, flavor and color imaginable, so it’s important to have a general idea and theme when meeting with your baker for the first time. When sitting down with the baker, bring items that correlate to the reception. An invitation, menu, location, or flower design, will all help the baker plan a cake that’s perfect for your big day. Then it is important to get every detail squared away so there is no confusion or last minute contract change. HERE ARE IMPORTANT THINGS TO COVER WITH YOUR BAKER: Detailed description of the cake you have agreed upon: • Cake flavor & fillings • Number of servings • Tier shape(s) • Number of tiers • Icing type & color • Decorations (flowers, fruit, sugar flowers) • Topper (who provides) • Cost of cake & number of slices (price per slice) • Sketch of cake • Delivery & setup fees (how, when, and which entrance to use at reception site) • Delivered items (cake stand, server, knife, if so, are there rental prices) • Take-home boxes for leftover cake or top-tier preservation • Total cost, including delivery • Deposit amount • Cancellation and refund policy • All signatures Many factors go into creating the perfect wedding cake, and it may seem daunting, but they are the experts and will give great insight and ideas.

LIMITING LIBATIONS Everyone has a different plan when it comes to whether to have alcohol served at your wedding reception & dance or not. Here are a few ways to tastefully incorporate drinking without going overboard. • Serve champagne during the toasts, but also offer sparking grape juice to those who prefer not to drink. This is also a great way to include the younger guests at your wedding. • Create signature drinks. Have the bride and groom each create a drink that goes with the color scheme and defines their drinking style. Then offer these master pieces in a non-alcoholic option. • Consider limiting the bar options. When beer is the only thing served the chances of too many guests over-consuming goes down. • Wait to serve the alcohol until later in the evening after kids and other guests such as grandparents have retired for the evening. • Assign designated drivers to bring people home at the end of the night. • Be sure you have a couple fun drinks for those not drinking. Consider a sparkling punch, sodas or lemonade. photo by studiofotografie
TIPS FROM THE EXPERT marketplace catering After months of planning your special day, sitting down to a great meal is one of the best ways to share the excitement with your family and friends. “Comfort” foods, such as melt in your mouth roast beef, baked chicken and charbroiled pork loin are satisfying and give your guests energy to dance through the night. If you wish to go a bit more non-traditional consider a menu of smokehouse products like beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs and chicken. One local company specializing in these is called Crazy Bob’s and is provided through MarketPlace Catering.
Often when you book a caterer all you get is the food! At MarketPlace Catering, you get so much more than that! Real plates and silverware are always included at NO extra cost, a staff of servers to set up the buffet and even bus off the tables when the meal is completed. If the venue that you select does not already offer linens and napkins, those can be provided as well, and with a possibility of no cost to you. MarketPlace Catering also offers a complimentary tasting session for up to 4 people. This is the perfect time to discuss any food allergies or special dietary requirements (like gluten free or vegetarian) so chef "Crazy Bob" Larsen can adjust the ingredients to meet your needs. With everything made from scratch your guests will have a delicious meal! - MARKETPLACE CATERING SIOUX FALLS, SD

Preserving your
Top tier Weddings bring many traditions, and one of our favorites is to save the top tier of your wedding cake for your first anniversary. To achieve a tasty cake a year from now, you want to preserve it right – so we created a list of steps for you to follow. 1. Remove any decorations or sugar flowers 2. If you have soft icing, you will want to chill the cake so it hardens and will be easier to wrap 3. Wrap the cake in layers of plastic wrap – not tin foil, as this can cause freezer burn 4. Seal the cake in an air tight bag or in an air tight container – we recommend a container so it does not get smashed in the freezer 5. Place in freezer Depending on the cake, some flavors have a longer shelf than others. Be sure to ask your baker their recommendations for preserving the cake or if you should share it after your honeymoon or on your three month anniversary instead.

TIPS FROM THE EXPERT hy-vee cakes
Brides should contact their cake designer and set up a consultation at least two months in advance; with a final order being placed at least one month in advance. If specific colors are needed on the cake a color sample left with the decorator is key. - HY-VEE | SIOUX FALLS, SD

Questions to Ask CATERERS
CAKE DESIGNER
• Do you offer all types of service: seated, buffet, station and cocktails?
• Do you have a portfolio from which we can select a style?
• Who will be the chef on duty on our wedding day?
• Have you worked with real flowers?
• Are there set menu packages or can one be custom-made?
• If I want fresh flowers on my cake, do you provide them? Will you coordinate it with my florist or am I responsible to get those to you?
• Do you offer special meals (kosher, low-fat, vegetarian)? • Will you/the chef prepare special family recipes? • Do you offer tastings to help your clients select the menu? Is there an additional charge? • Would the tastings be prepared by the same person doing the food for our wedding?
• Will you create a custom design based on our vision?
• Do you offer a cake tasting? • Is the cake prepared and then frozen or is it prepared fresh for the wedding day? • How are your cakes priced? By the slice?
• Is champagne for a toast included? If not, what is the charge?
• Do you have a list of cakes with their prices that I can have?
• What happens if additional guests show up who didn't RSVP?
• Is delivery and setup included? If not, what is the additional cost?
• Can you explain the bar fee?
• Do you provide items like cake toppers, stands, tiers, cake-cutters, etc?
• Is there a corkage fee? • Do you offer children’s meals at a lower price? • What is the server/guest ratio? • Do you provide the tables, chairs, linens, china, glassware, serving pieces, etc? • How are the setup and cleanup handled? • How are you licensed? • Can we see your health permit?
• Do you rent them? • What are the costs? • Will you create a smaller cake for display and prepare a less expensive sheet cake for serving? • Will you prepare a groom’s cake? If so, what are our choices and what is the fee? • How far in advance do we need to place our order? Is your health department licensing up to date? • Can we see your permit?
BEVERAGES • If you plan to serve alcohol, make sure to offer non-alcoholic beverages as well. • If you are having a tasting, be sure that the food will be prepared by the same chef who will cook on the day of your wedding. • It is a common courtesy to offer meals to service providers such as the officiant, musicians, the DJ, the photographer, the videographer as well as their assistants. • It is important to make sure you have an adequate amount of wait staff to serve your guests. If you are having a seated meal, it is best to have one server for every 8-10 person table. If you are having a buffet, it is best to have at least one server for every 25 people.
• It is smart to hire a caterer who carries liability insurance. • If a caterer will not show you an operating license or health permit, don’t hire him or her! • If you are having an outdoor wedding in warm weather, consult with your cake designer about what ingredients will be able to hold up in the heat. • If your cake is going to be topped with fresh fruit, find out when the fruit will be added. You want this to be done as close to the presentation time as possible for the cake to look its best. • Remember that any flowers on or near the cake must be nonpoisonous and free from pesticides.

Choreographed wedding dances We have all seen them lately on social media and the web, mother and son, the couple or the entire wedding party surprising the guests with a dance number! This trend has caught on because it is something out of the ordinary. A choreographed first dance between husband and wife can be ultra romantic! Or on the flip side, it can showcase their goofy side. That is just it, dance can be an expression of their personalities and will create a cherished video they can replay for years to come. If you plan to include a choreographed dance at your wedding do it right! Research videos online and decide what you want to do. Then setup times to get all those participating together to practice. If needed call a local dance studio for assistance. The more you practice the better the dance will turn out. Be sure to have one final practice following the rehearsal to make sure everyone is ready to dance. Biggest piece of advice, have fun with it. photo by studiofotografie

ENTERTAINING your guests
THE SHOE GAME QUESTIONS • Who wakes up first in the morning? • Who takes the longer shower? • Who spends the most time getting ready to go out? • Who is more into their looks? • Who is the biggest flirt? • Who is the more serious person?
YOUR DJ
• Who is more likely to get injured?
Reception entertainment, whether a live band or a DJ, can take your reception from a hum drum dinner into an evening everyone will remember! Some DJs will get out into the crowd and do a lot of the entertaining for you! Through songs, a group dance, or a break-dancing contest the DJ you hire can have a big impact on your reception’s success.
• Who made the first move?
THE SHOE GAME The “Shoe Game” is a great ice breaker, and gets a lot of laughs! Set two chairs back to back in the middle of the dance floor and ask the bride and groom to take a seat. Have the maid-of-honor remove both the groom’s shoes and the best man remove the bride’s; then give them each a shoe of theirs and one of their spouse. Then the DJ announces “This game is to show how much the new Mr./Mrs. John and Jane Doe really know about each other… I will ask you a question and you raise the shoe that you think best fits the answer to the question…his shoe for him and her shoe for her.” Sometimes the bride will put up her shoe, and the groom will put up his, and the guests will roar. This can also be done with parents of the bride or groom or other guests. The trick is, do not let the couple know the questions ahead of time.
• Who said “I LOVE YOU” first? • Who is the better cook? • Who has the wackiest family? • Who is the better driver? • Who spends more money? • Who is in control of the checkbook? • Who wears the pants in the family? • Who is always right? • Who is in charge of the remote? • Who is the better kisser? • Who is more likely to kill a spider in the house? • Who is better at keeping secrets? • Who is most likely to pass gas in front of the other first? • Now that you’re married, who will be the first to say… “not tonight”. • Who steals the cover’s more ?
WEDDING I SPY
• Who’s most likely to get lost?
This is a wonderful way to get extra photos from your wedding. Ask your guests to use their digital cameras for smartphones to capture the moments even the best photographers sometimes miss.
• Who’s the most likely to wake up grumpy in the morning ?
YARD GAMES
• And finally… Who do you love the most in the whole wide world?
For outdoor weddings consider a beanbag toss, ring toss, giant jenga, ladder golf, horseshoes, or croquet.
• Who’s most likely to be running late?

Questions to Ask VOCALISTS/MUSICIANS
DJ/BAND
• What instrument(s) do you and your co-performers play?
• Will you provide a song list to choose from?
• Will you learn new pieces?
• Will you take requests from us of songs to play and not to play?
• Can you suggest pieces that will fit our wedding styles?
• Will you take requests from guests?
• Do you know the religious songs we want played?
• What types of music do you usually play while the meal is being served and is it included in the fee?
• Have you performed at our site? If so, do you require any amplification? • If you’re not familiar with the site, will you visit to assess the acoustics? • If you or one of your co-performers are ill on our wedding day, do you have a backup?
• Will you be the master of ceremonies announcing the first dance, toasts, cake-cutting, etc.? • How many hours does this include? Of playing time? Of setting up and breaking down equipment? • How many breaks and what length do you require?
APPOINTMENTS
Advice at a Glance • Be sure to purchase the sheet music for the ceremony and have them delivered to the vocalists/musicians in plenty of time before the ceremony to practice!
• Contracts – You must have them! And they must be signed by both parties. This way everyone is on the same page and everyone is paid for their services.
• If you are having an outdoor wedding, be sure to place musicians in a shaded area!
• Ask for a sample CD or videotape of the prospective entertainment prior to signing any contract. This way you know exactly what you’re getting.
• Have the musicians arrive to set up at least one hour before the ceremony begins! • Always have one or two rehearsals with live musicians! • Consider your reception locale, music can sound completely different when heard on the beach than in a grand ballroom. Make sure you take this into consideration when choosing a band or DJ.
• If you think your reception will last longer than the standard 4 hours, simply hire the band or DJ for another hour. If you decide at the last minute to have your entertainment stay late, you are bound to incur overtime fees, which are much more expensive. • Plan ahead and equip the band/DJ with a do-not-play list, as well as all your favorite tracks.

Bouquets for your wedding day CASCADE Cascade bouquets are becoming more and more popular. This is one of the latest trends in wedding flowers. The cascade bouquet is anchored in a handheld base with the flowers and greenery spilling out in a waterfall of flowers. NOSEGAY A very traditional bouquet style, the nosegay s usually characterized as a small round cluster of flowers, all of similar color and length. HAND-TIED The hand-tied bouquet is ideal for an outdoor, rustic wedding. As the name implies, the flowers are gathered in “just-picked,” medium length stem. The stems are often wrapped with ribbon, lace, or burlap. photo by studiofotografie
PAGEANT The pageant style bouquet is comprised of long stemmed flowers, cradled in the bride’s arm. POMANDER The pomander bouquet is ideal for flower girls and attendants. The pomander is a perfectly round ball covered in flower blooms. This bouquet is typically suspended from a ribbon. OTHER WEDDING DAY FLOWERS BOUTONNIERES The men usually wear boutonnieres on their suit label. They usually follow the same flower design as the bride’s, but with one small bud.

CORSAGE A wrist corsage is a beautiful way for the women of the bride and grooms family to wear their flowers. They are usually larger than the boutonnieres, incorporate more of the flowers found in the bride’s bouquet, but smaller and fitted with a wrist band.

HUPPAHS & TRELLISES These are larger canopies and frames lined with greenery and flowers. Huppahs are integral in Jewish traditional ceremonies and trellises are typical for outdoor weddings.

Questions to Ask • Can we see photos of weddings you’ve done?
• What are the costs for the different elements we are interested in?
• Do you have one particular style or will you work with us to create arrangements that match our vision?
• Will the flowers we’re interested in be in season at the time of our wedding? If not, can you suggest some similar looking alternatives to save money?
• Have you done any events at our site? • Once we’ve decided what we want, will you show us sample arrangements?
• How do you feel about transforming pew arrangements from the ceremony into centerpieces for the reception to help ease our budget?
• Are arrangements made the day of or before? How are they stored?
• Are there delivery and setup fees?
• Will you be available on the wedding day to arrange and set up or will someone else be doing this? • Can you work with our cake designer if we want flowers on the cake? Are you familiar with the safety issues regarding edible flowers free from pesticides?
• Will you be working on any other events on our wedding day? • What time would the flowers be delivered and when would you (and your team) arrive to set up?
Advice at a Glance • Check to see if any bridesmaid or groomsmen have allergies to any particular flowers. If so, try to stay away from those types for bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres.
• See how long specific flowers stay fresh. You don’t want your bouquets or arrangements to start to wilt or turn brown halfway through your day.
• Don’t incorporate flowers that have a strong scent in your reception centerpieces.
• If the florist has more than one staff member working with you, make sure that they are all informed of the exact plans for your wedding day.
• Floral arrangements should be delivered as late as possible, or kept refrigerated for freshness. • Refrain from touching or allowing others to touch your flowers. Oils from your fingers will brown and sometimes crush delicate petals.
TIPS FROM THE EXPERT hy-vee floral
• Bring pictures of types of flowers and arrangements that you like to your floral interviews. In addition, bring pictures of the ceremony and reception sites, and swatches of your dress and your bridesmaids’ dresses to find coordinating flowers.
Come to your appointment with a list of who you are going to need flowers for. We can also help you with this to make sure no one is forgotten. It is also helpful to bring swatches of your wedding colors to ensure we get a good match.

Pose Perfect getting your engagement photos right!
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY | 131
C
hances are you’re having your engagement photos professionally done. This is great because they will know how to pose you, style you, and the perfect settings. Here are some tips for the poses you should definitely do, as well as some extra tips to make the moment is captured flawlessly. THE LIFT Channel your "Dirty Dancing" moves and have a shot of the soon to be husband lifting you off the ground. Don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be like the iconic dance move, even a foot off the ground gives a whimsical and fun feel to your shoot. Couples often make this shot fun and romantic, but no matter what, their personalities shine through. FOREHEAD KISS There is something so timeless about the signature "forehead kiss" picture. It really shows the love between the couple, and the reactions always seem the least posed with their true reaction coming through. THE GAZE This one can feel cheesy to do, but it’s a way to forget the camera is there. Sometimes staring at your photographer can feel uncomfortable, especially at first, but staring into the eyes of the person you want to spend the rest of your life with? Easy. CROPPED If you want to take a little more artistic approach, try having the photographer crop out the top of your head right below your eyes. Whether it’s a close up or standing next to each other at a farther distance, leaving something out leaves something to the imagination when others look at them. Some extra touches that will give your photos a variety: backlit photos give a glowing effect that is always beautiful. Having pictures taken in different seasons gives great variety. Also, shifting your weight and honoring the classic tip, “if it bends, then bend it.” Above all else, trust your photographer. They’re the professional, they do this all the time, and they know what looks good!

Boudoir
B E A U T I F U L LY
The hot (and we mean hot) new trend for brides is a boudoir photo shoot for pictures to give to her groom on their wedding day. Although very little is worn, the photos are still classy and are timeless for years to come. Many shy away from this idea because, let’s face it, taking provocative pictures with a photographer can be intimidating. Lucky for you we have some tips to help this experience run smoothly.
PINTEREST IT Anything and everything can be found on Pinterest, including boudoir poses. Do some internet surfing to find what you like so you have a general idea of what you would like to do. YOU DON’T NEED TO SPLURGE There’s no need to purchase expensive lingerie or shoes if you don’t want to. A simple bed sheet or your man’s button up works wonders. HIRE THE BEST A great photographer makes all the difference in the world. They are able to get all the best angles and, most importantly, make you feel comfortable. Some photographers will wrap this service into your wedding package.

FIND YOUR GLAM TEAM Some boudoir packages include hair and make-up. This will help you feel your best and provide excellent photos. However, if you want to do it all yourself, do a little extra - tease your hair a little more, where a little extra makeup, go a little bit more bold! This allows your features to pop more in the photos. LOOSEN UP When heading to the photo shoot avoid wearing a tight bra, socks, jeans, or anything that would leave an indentation on your skin. This detail can easily be overlooked, but is just as important (plus this allows you to be more comfortable!) OPTIONS, OPTIONS, OPTIONS Bring a variety of outfits, lingerie, robes, accessories, etc. Yes, you may not wear them all but your photographer will know what looks great on camera and you never know if something might rip. WARM UP TO IT Everyone has insecurities! Chances are it might feel uncomfortable at first but your photographer will help with this. If you don’t want to smile at first, or even look at the camera, then don’t. Do what you need to do to warm up, but we can promise you, in the end you’ll feel great about yourself!

Checklist WEDDING PHOTOS
Creating a checklist with your photographer is a great way to not only try to stay on task, but also to ensure you have all of the photos you want taken at your wedding. The last thing you want is to miss the opportunity to have that special picture because it was forgotten in the chaos. Professional wedding photographers know what photos they need to get and they will have suggestions and input regarding this list. It is common to have bridal party photos done at a different location than where the ceremony is held. If you do choose an off-site location, be sure to have photos taken of the Bride and Groom at both locations. The more traditional Bride/ Groom photos are timeless – you don’t want to forget about them! It may also help during the formal family photos if one of the attendants partners with the photographer to get the right people into the pictures! With lots of family running around, it will save everyone time (and stress!) if someone close to the family can help coordinate who needs to be where and when!

why you need a
videographer Yes, yes, everyone has an HD video camera these days, but that does not mean they can capture your wedding day in a meaningful way. There is so much more to a wedding video than just some footage. If you decide to save money and just have Uncle James shoot your wedding, be prepared to be disappointed! There are a few things to consider when deciding whether or not to hire a videographer or go it alone: • Pay the extra to have a second camera and cameraman! This allows for a better ability to get more footage and from different angels which will deliver a much more inclusive video. • Sound is essential! Have someone experienced in capturing the right sounds will make for a neat video. The couple will appreciate not only being able to see the ceremony but hear the vows they spoke that day! • Editing allows for a movie like feel! During the editing process things such as, special effects, highlight reels, etc., will create a smooth wedding video. Simple cuts here and there will take hours of video and create a sleek final video.
• Fun extras that can be added include: the "how-we-fell-love story", engagement story, and special stories from friends and family, which can really make the video a true treasure for the couple. Here are a few of the things an experienced videographer will do to prepare for shooting your wedding: • Research the Church and Reception venue to know ahead of the best placements of the cameras so they don’t miss anything. • Provide lapel mics that are wireless. • Be unobtrusive but still get the best shots. • Provide additional lighting if needed. • Interview guests. So while this article does not provide all the great reasons to hire a videographer, hopefully it has given you something to think about!

ENGAGEMENT
Fashions
Choosing outfits for you and your fiancé to wear during your engagement photos can be fun for some brides and torture for others. No worries, we’re here for you!
The first thing you are going to need to consider is the season in which your photos are going to be taken. It's important to plan your pictures at least six months before your wedding in order to use your photos for save-the-dates and wedding website. Every season has the opportunity to take beautiful pictures, but your outfits should correspond accordingly. Once the season is decided and booked with your photographer, the next step is to pick YOUR outfit. Here are some things to keep in mind: • Consider the season--This one's easy. If you're taking pictures in the fall, kneehigh boots, sweaters and warm colors will compliment your surroundings. Conversely, dresses in bright iced colors look beautiful paired with wedge sandals in the spring time. • Choose solids--By choosing to wear solid colors in your engagement pictures, you are ensuring the attention and camera focus will be on you and your fiancé the entire time. • Choose classic styles--You don't want to have to look back on your engagement pictures five years from now and think "What was I thinking?" By choosing classic styles for your outfits, you will be ensuring the longevity of your photos. • Choose two or three different outfit combinations. When you set your shoot with your photographer, there may be time or location limitations. If you have the opportunity, change into another outfit half way through. Then you have more options in photos to print! • Keep accessories simple--Besides your engagement ring, chose only one other accessory for each outfit. The next thing will be to chose your fiance's outfit. It's important that you use the rules above for him, too. Coordinate, but don't match! To make sure you and your fiance have the most perfect pictures, coordinate your style and formality. Lastly, but most importantly, be confident in yourselves!

Why you should hire a
Photography will be one of the first things you decide on when planning your wedding and once you start researching, you will be faced with one question: One photographer or two? A lot of Wedding Photographers these days will photograph solo or have an assistant. Keep in mind a second photographer is different then just a photographer with an assistant. A second photographer is there for more than just carrying bags and straightening dresses. A second photographer carries a camera and shoots along with the first. Being equal allows for a completely different experience for the bride and groom. Here are a few pros to consider and why two is better!
Two photographers can be in two places at once! This is a huge plus. When both photographers are capable of effectively capturing the day, you have the option to split things. This helps when both bride and groom are getting ready at the same time, when you find yourself in a time crunch, or when the bride is walking down the aisle. One
photographer can't capture both the front and back of the bride, but with two photographers carrying the appropriate equipment you can get both of those views. Two photographers means double the artistic views. It is so much easier to capture the little moments between a bride and groom if one photographer is able to stand back and shoot from a distance while the other shooter focuses on posing and the more formal shots. Splitting the work load can really make the day run more smoothly. When time is running out or if pictures are behind schedule, two can split the remaining shots to get them done much more quickly. Two photographers work like an insurance policy. Unfortunately things happen, but double the cameras, double the memory cards and double the back up of photos means if something were to happen chances are you will still come away with a lot of photos from your day.
When shooting together, one can take the lead depending on the situation. All photographers have strengths and weaknesses and working together allows them to fill the gaps that would otherwise be present. It is not at all uncommon for one to set up a couple, focusing on the more formal shots while the second will capture the more candid side of things. It is remarkable what they come up with when this option is available. When considering what will work best for your wedding, remember it isn't the size of your wedding that should determine how many photographers are there. The fact is simple: two photographers can capture more details, more angles, more expressions, more tears and laughs, and more moments that make up one of the best days of your life! – VAN DYKE & SHANK PHOTOGRAPHY SIOUX FALLS, SD

Avoid Guest
PHOTOGRAPHERS F
or many, it’s the day they have been waiting for their whole life. The dress is beautiful and the flowers are perfect, now it’s time for the money-shot…Until your Aunt Janice steps in the aisle and takes a picture instead. It may seem rude to tell your guests to put away their phones during the ceremony, but chances are you paid for a photographer to take the perfect pictures. There are no do-over’s during the ceremony and often photos (like walking down the aisle with your father) are ruined by
guests stepping in front of the professional photographer, or flashes that white out the picture. To avoid these photo blunders and bombs, many brides and grooms are opting for an ‘unplugged wedding.’ By having your family and friends put away their phones and cameras during the wedding, the photographer you hired is able to get beautiful shots, and your guests are able to focus on the ceremony instead of their phones.

Advice at a Glance • Scout out your ceremony and reception sites with your photographer before your wedding day to choose the best settings for your formal photographs. • Consider taking formal portraits before the ceremony so you and the wedding party can enjoy the cocktail hour. If you are superstitious and don’t want to take shots with your groom before the ceremony, just take all the formal shots that don’t include him ahead of time. • Serve non-alcoholic drinks and hors d’oeuvres to those who will be posing for pictures prior to arriving at the reception site to keep your bridal party lively for the pictures.Take any photos immediately upon arrival before party members begin drinking or are distracted. • Don’t forget to give the photographer and videographer any special instructions or restrictions by the officiant or the ceremony site ahead of time. • Have your photographer take candid pictures of your parents that you could possibly have framed as gifts for them.
• Ask your photographer for a sample album of an entire wedding he/she shot to get a realistic idea of their ability. • Make sure the photographer/videographer brings extra equipment in case something breaks or malfunctions so you're not left with important moments not photographed or recorded. • Without him knowing, say something special to the groom on tape so he is happily surprised when he sees it. Also consider a special 1 year anniversary message recorded separately for that special night. • The number of photos the photographer guarantees to shoot should be greater than the number you want to include in your album so you have the largest selection possible. • The photographer or videographer you hire should have experience shooting in conditions similar to yours. Be sure to view samples of work done in similar conditions. • The videographer should have a wireless microphone so guests won’t trip over cords.
• Figure out before the wedding day if you want the videographer to interview your guests.
Questions to Ask • Will you be the photographer the day of my wedding? - Some larger studios have multiple photographers that may vary in style and personality. • How would you describe your photography style? - Make sure you book a photographer that has a similar sense of style as you do. • Will you have a second shooter? - A second shooter will allow for multiple angles of the same scene.
• Will you provide a CD of high resolution images? - Not all photographers give out the copyright to their images on a CD.They all have different packages and some offer prints instead. • What do you do in case of camera malfunction or card corruption? - Technology is great, but is does fail. Make sure the photographer has back up plans.
• How long have you been shooting weddings? - Experience is always good, but mostly, their experience and price should go together.
• Can I see our work from a full wedding day? - The photographers website showcases their best work (which it should). You want to ask to see a wedding from start to finish, from getting ready to the reception.
• Do you edit your photos? - If you are concerned with blemishes being removed or any editing, make sure the photographer would be willing to do so.
• What is your rate per package? - It is always important to make sure your budget can handle what you are booking. • Lastly ask yourself, "do I like them?" - Your photographer will work with you closely all day. It is crucial that you get along with them and enjoy their personality

Accommodations GUEST
Footing the bill for out of town wedding guests overnight accommodations and flights isn't your responsibility, however you can make the stay more enjoyable for them. Taking the time to secure a discount on a block of rooms will do 2 things:
Here are a few questions to ask when deciding what hotel to recommend to your guests:
1. Saves your guests time money and stress. Booking a hotel in an unfamiliar city takes time to research and causes stress. Reserving a block or rooms with reduce anxiety and generally means your guests receive a discount from the standard price.
1. How far are you from my reception site?
2. Allows your friends and relatives to stay close to each other for the duration of the wedding. Weddings are a great chance to spend quality time with people you love and staying in the same hotels allows them to capitalize on every extra minute. Many couples prefer to stay in a hotel on their wedding night. Depending on how many guests book a room, often the couple gets the honeymoon suite at a discounted rate or for free! - HOMEWOOD SUITES | GUEST ACCOMMODATIONS
2. Do you offer any transpor tation ser vices? 3. Do you have any special accommodations? 4. Do you offer a honeymoon suite with the room block? In the end, your guests will appreciate your willingness to make their trip great!

TRANSPORTATION TIPS Now that your wedding and reception is all planned, let’s talk about transportation! Here are some helpful tips and things you should know when planning your ride. • How much can you spend? You’re likely to be charged by the hour, which can run around $50-$125 an hour, depending on what you choose. • Who will be riding? You must consider the number of people you want to transport from the wedding to the reception site. Several vehicles may be needed. In this case, you might be able to negotiate a better price for multiple vehicles. • Who should you ask to ride along? Really anyone you want. Arranging transportation for parents, grandparents etc. is a nice gesture.
• Don’t leave too many vehicles behind. Making arrangements for those riding in the reserved vehicles, to get their vehicle to the reception ahead of time, is a great idea. In addition for parents and grandparents, you could ask other family members to drive their cars from the wedding to the reception. • Since you have the vehicle rented, why not see what it would cost to drive home your guests after the reception. This is a great way to ensure that your guests get home safely after the dance. If you arrange this to cut down on costs you could book the transportation company to come back for a 2-3 hour window at the end of the night. Then be sure to let your guests know ahead of time. • Finally don’t forget to ask about gratuity. If it is not included in your rental, be sure to tip your driver!

when & where Just like your wedding, the honeymoon takes time and planning as well. The time of year, weather, cost, and activities you wish to do are all vital factors to take into consideration. For many, an allinclusive hotel has many pros. They are often cheaper, as restaurants and activities are all included, and offer shops to take gifts home to your loved ones. However, if you wish to venture out and explore, or easily reach boredom doing the same thing every day, look into a different location or be sure the hotel has transportation or countless options of things to try.
Also, consider hiring a travel agent. This will come in handy if you’re traveling to multiple areas; they know what’s best and can change arrangements faster, easier, and save the stress of doing so. Tropical locations don’t experience winter like the Midwest, however they often experience a rainy season. Here is a list of honeymoon destinations by time of year they experience the best weather. JANUARY – MARCH Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada (ski resort), Caribbean, Central & South Africa, Chile, Costa Rica, Maldives, Mexico, Morocco, & the Florida Keys APRIL – JUNE Belize, Brazil, Canada, Central & South Africa, Italy In June try warmer places like Fiji, France, Greece, Hawaii, Spain, & Thailand
Building Memories Together
JULY – SEPTEMBER Bermuda, Brazil, Britain, Canada, Central & South Africa, Czech Republic, France, French Polynesia, Ireland, Madagascar, & Thailand OCTOBER – DECEMBER Australia, Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Central & South Africa, Hawaii, Morocco, Mexico, Florida Keys & New Zealand

After the Big Day From Ms. To Mrs. Planning Your Will: The Tough Questions Can You Afford Your First Home?
photo by. Greg & LaRae Photography
156 | AFTER THE BIG DAY
From Ms. to Mrs.
Whether you decide to take your husband’s last name is up to you. If you do it, there are a lot of different places where you have to change it. This can be a long list and not everything has to be done at once. Many of these organizations can change your name over the phone. Others, Banks and Credit Unions for example, want to see a copy of the Marriage Certificate and your Driver's License before they will change the name on the account.
TO UPDATE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD: These are the items you will need to bring with you to the social security administration offices – allow yourself plenty of time, it could be a long wait. Mondays and Fridays are usually the busiest. • Driver's license • Marriage certificate
TO CHANGE YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE: • Birth Certificate • Your current Driver's License or state issued ID • Your Marriage License • Paystub with your name and address
• Fill out name change form
• New social security card • A piece of mail with your new address with your husband
• Social Security Card
After all of your materials are submitted you should receive your card in the mail in a couple of weeks.
• Driver's License
Local Offices:
• Auto Registration
• Sioux Falls Social Security office: 2400 W. 49th Street, Sioux Falls, SD
ACCOUNTS TO CHANGE:
• Credit Cards • Bank accounts • Utilities • Medical Organizations • Legal Documents (Will, Power of Attorney, etc) • Billed services (phone bill, insurance)
• Yankton Social Security office: 121 W. 3rd St., Yankton, SD • Aberdeen Social Security office: 115 4th Ave SE, Aberdeen, SD • Sioux City, IA Social Security office: 3555 Southern Hills Dr, Sioux City, IA
• Another piece of mail, a bill preferably, with your name and your new address. The most important thing to remember here is this – It may be challenging and it may be annoying, but all of these companies have hoops for you to jump through when changing your name to protect you! They want to make sure you really are who you say you are so that no one can take your identity and ruin your credit, steal your money, making the first part of your new life together awful.
AFTER THE BIG DAY | 157
PLANNING YOUR WILL: the tough questions Now that you are married, there are a few legal matters you should keep on your horizon, especially if you own property, have children or pets, or own a business. Get a will drawn up. There are a few options out there for getting a will prepared. You can hire a lawyer or fill out a will online. If you have children from a previous relationship, own a business or own multiple properties, hiring a lawyer to draw up your will may be best. If you are just starting out, an online option may be sufficient until you have major life events occur (like having children). The only people who can really give you true legal advice are lawyers – but we have compiled a list of things you and your spouse
should discuss prior to the appointment, so you both know what you would like to happen in the event you both pass.
• PETS – Who would you like to take care of your pets? Do you have life insurance money devoted to their care?
• PROPERTY – If you own a home or property, what do you want to happen to it in the event of your death? Do you want it to be sold? Kept in the family? If it is sold, do you have any person or charity you would want the proceeds to go to?
• SOCIAL MEDIA – It may seem strange to think about, but in all the years of getting MySpace, Facebook, Tumblr, Ello and the next latest and greatest social profile, there is a lot of information about you online. Keep a list of profiles and passwords, as well as, indicating who you would want to resolve those profiles (deactivate them, turn them into memorial pages, etc) in a secure place. This goes for email accounts, too.
• CHILDREN – If you have children, who would you want to care for them? How much life insurance money would you want to be set aside for the children? If they are underage at the time of your death, who would you want to be the trustee of the life insurance money until they are older?
These are important questions to chat over as a couple and decide how you would want a legal will to indicate your wishes.
