The Quiet Man on M ​ ay 22, 2009

He came to do his Father’s will, This quiet man of Nazareth; At thirty years he pondered still The mission that would mean his death.

A carpenter of low estate, The quiet man lay down his tools And turned to his appointed fate To ransom sinners Satan rules.

The quiet man at Jordan’s flow, Approached the holy prophet John For baptism, ere God would show The Lamb the Dove would rest upon.

In wilderness, fasting in prayer, The quiet man withstood the test Of Satan’s smooth seductions there, Convinced this world was not God’s best.

In Galilee he met the cries Of every pressing human need; And healed their hurts, their hearts and eyes.

This quiet man of bless’ed creed.

On holy mount with God’s envoys, Enwrapped in glory from above, The quiet man chose servant’s joys, Descending to the vale in love.

Descending, condescending, yes, To save and heal the sin-possessed; To preach a Kingdom truly blessed, This quiet man of God obsessed.

The quiet man, a prey to powers, With sweat like blood through all his pores, Prayed strengthening in dark night hours: “Oh Father, not my will but yours.”

Mid jeering crowds as nail wounds screamed, The quiet man hung from a cross As sin, dismissed from God he seemed, Yet faithful, would not suffer loss.

Into the very bowels of hell Where Satan ruled with cruel delight; The quiet man heard death’s death-knell As God pronounced him just and right.

Descending, condescending, done!

For sin he bled and did atone.

For life he battled death alone, This quiet man sent from God’s throne.

His body rested in the tomb Until the Easter morning light, When slipping off the sheets of doom, The quiet man arose from night.

Upon the Mount of Olivet, Alive again, by saints adored, And pledging Spirit comfort yet; The quiet man ascended Lord.

Oh there is yet another morn Which angels will announce with pride, With trumpet calls for those twice-born; The quiet man shall claim His Bride!

Aroma of the King

A sweetness that I can’t define

Just seems to happen by

It may be in a happy day

Or when I’m near to cry

And someone offers up a smile

And lifts a wholesome word

As if he had some fix on me

Or was it all the Lord?

Aroma…that’s the best of phrase

For what I sense so clear

And time again I have the joy

When this dear soul comes near.

Not pushy with the words of writ

Not out to win some game.

But gentleness, the grace of it

Must draw to Jesus’ name.

It’s hard for words to tell the depths

Of what has just transpired.

I want this peace

I want release

I’m doubtful and so tired.

But could I really pass the test

And rise to saintly ways?

I reckon what he has is best.

Brave Jesus all his days.

He doesn’t strain

He doesn’t sweat

He just leans on the Lord.

Thanks for the flag, saints.

You ran once with Him.

Touched His clothes.

Placed hands of camaraderie Upon those shoulders.

Saw the lame walk, The outcast relieved, The fretful calmed, The dead raised, The deaf ears opened.

To His message of love And of Father's Constant reaching.

Of the prize in Absorbing the blow; Going two miles; Listening with grace; Facing the grave.

Proclaiming at hand-off, 'Him, Risen Indeed!'

To other keen runners, In different times, In different struggles, In different climes.

But all with The Spirit and Joy reinforced, To herald the message And finish their course.

The flag still clean.

And true to its purpose.

No never gone stale, Nor broken, nor bested, Nor picayune, nor pale.

Maintaining rich colour, Its drapery white, And crimson its message, 'Begone dreadful night Of death and despairing.

Our Lord makes things right!'

So carry the standard When passed on to you.

Its olive-wood handle So straight and so true.

And look for new runners Who reverence God's Son,

Who range to the by-ways As you just have done.

Carry it high, saints.

For soon He will come.

CONSTANCY​ ​POETRY​ W ​ ITNESSING

Prayer:​ Oh Heavenly Father, to be like Jesus and to know the opportunities of Grace, and to have the stamina and compassion to follow through. Can this be accomplished? Jesus prayed on that last night that members of the Kingdom might enter into the very Love and Light which had operated within the Trinity always and forever. I trust that His prayer gets answered and gets answered in me for the simple asking. Amen
