I shook his hand And didn’t let it go Too soon.

Two other mornings Over the past few weeks Had met in the same place Congenial talks Liberal smiles Gave him lots of ear Now at the place Of name exchange.

“Doug” (pause) “Greg” (pause) Put my hand Firmly on his shoulder.

He looked sidewise At this encroachment “You seem to like that Laptop of yours, Bud. What’s with that?”

“Oh, I write things Poems, usually about Jesus.”

“No kidding?

Is it real Or just wishful thinking?”

The sun was coming through The glass now, and hard.

Squeegy guy had just washed it.

I opened my little portable Psalter And read the first Fourteen lines Psalm 103.

No use just letting Greg hear from me.

Divine appointment.

One more time And the talk just flowed Both ways.

He Overcame No easy ride, not then, no way The serving would be hard And Heaven missed His gracious mien Could He New Life impart?

Religion called Him ruffian And thrones just called Him weak.

But hurting ones might call Him King For those He came to seek.

Such goodness met the coarsest Power Convicting, His contrast.

The Heavens shown as full and free Religion’s weight got past.

So how came chain And whip and jeer?

Love pinioned to a Cross?

The Holy Spirit held up Hope That all would not be loss.

Our Master, Champion Bathed in prayer And true to Father’s Name Heart filled with Psalms Of hate proved false.

He overcame…OVERCAME.

Riverside saw Him early this morning riverside His night’s agenda unknown but praying for sure seems good as sleep don’t know how but now simple breakfast and adventures to follow. hurting ones gather

they cheer as if for royalty, for mercy for victory, for a Friend. whence comes His direction?

His energies His quiet dismissal of all doubts, cynicism?

He is Lord, Life and Liberty. this single Man riverside.

There is one mediator between God and man; the man Christ Jesus.

To Give Thanks Couldn’t think it possible So many pains in sight But here I am so thankful For blessings in this night.

The Adversary pokes and prods To find a dark way in He calls up those past stumblings The testiness, the sin.

But images of Passion Week And joy of Upper Room Restore this pilgrim’s hopefulness And take away the gloom.

So thankful Lord, yes thank you.

This love of ours so bright And I lie here astonished Yes transformed by thoughts right.
