With Him in the Mix Images of Jesus Offered by Doug Blair, Waterloo ON, 2020
The Concerted Search This thing never ends
And I have a responsibility.
Waking in this hotel room
1
Well into days of business.
The dream was filled with awe
And forewarning.
A place without shafts of sunlight
Without singing of birds
Or laughter of very small children
All pink and perfect.
Undercurrents of grief
2
Of abandonment
On a road irreversible.
Hopelessness beyond words
Or circumstance.
And not about to end.
No babies. No new Life.
No happy families.
The manger Child
3
Came into view.
And the bowing of all
Eastern wisdom before Him.
The happy noises
Of the carpenter shop
And a Father’s focused coaching.
The wanderings of hillside
And meadow and marketplace.
4
Heaven’s touch constantly
Brought to His mind.
The browsing of sacred scrolls
And emergence of the Mission.
Seeking, hurting people
Relieved at side of Lake
By His simple touch or message.
Power figures
5
Recoiling and hissing.
Their bankruptcy exposed
And games of sin manipulation.
(Sunday school images all.)
The rest followed quickly:
The debates, the treachery,
The cowardly arrest
The ridiculous trials
6
And postures.
And a crowd turned animal
As if a single unit
Beneath the bleeding
And beseeching of
The One Good Man.
Cross-bound‌
In that mutinous unit
7
I saw myself
Howling like the rest.
Disgusted at the sufferings.
Not knowing their import.
Until His gaze fell upon me.
Not condemning, but reassuring
That I could do better.
Would do better.
8
There was still time.
I awoke.
One full minute before
The front desk’s calling.
I reached out.
The bedside drawer held
One of those Gideon Bibles.
A concerted search
9
Had been birthed
Out of merciful terror
And longing.
I would become
That New Creation.
In Christ.
The greatest of businesses
Now very clear.
10
In the Order of Melchizedek
Father I wear them on my heart
A delightful burden
For the priestly call
I love them all.
As parent for a tumultuous Clan
11
I know what’s in Man
Been there for the whole ambit
Suffered, bled, died
Rose with laughter
The Grave a humbled foe.
Father might they all know
Did it for them
Would do it again
But thankfully “once” was enough.
And Spirit conveys the right stuff
To hungry, thirsty ones.
12
Your daughters and sons.
(Read Hebrews 7 through 9)

I Was There
Had I seen the torment
And ridicule you suffered
Had I seen the demons
Behind the cast of men.
Had I seen the lashings
And piercings rake your body
13
Could I ever lightly
Regard your Cross again?
Could I go on living
As if the sin were trivial?
Could I enter worship
With casual thoughts in mind?
Would I rather fall down
And plead the Father’s mercy
Knowing in that foul crowd
My leering face I’d find.
Yet you uttered ‘Father
14
Forgive them in your kindness.
They do not yet fathom
The awesome thing now done.’
Scarce could I believe that
God heeded your petition
Washed my record clean
In the bleeding of His Son.
Morbid, some will say at
My point of view now altered
‘He’s one of us
And we try to live aright.’
15
Jesus, there’s still time
For the breaking and the blessing
Visit these dear loved ones
And give them Gospel sight.
Music the World Over
We wait for that feeling
As hearts open wide
Perhaps it’s an old tune
Remembered inside.
Or come from a far land
16
Still hearts beat the same
And melodies settle
And troubled thoughts tame.
It seems to be boundless
For older folk too
They meet us in music
As kinship comes through.
Some laughter escaping
Some tears shed as well
A wave of emotion
We’re lost in the swell.
17
Oh might it continue
This tryst in our song
A family in music
Who must get along.
The final strains building
And bursting with love
And we are told singing
Is paramount Above.

True Majesty 18
APRIL 22, 2016 / ISSUUDOTCOMSLASHDEWANE /
Show me a king
And one without compromise
One who is truly
In touch with the poor
Training their children
19
And filling their pantries
Bringing real justice
Like none seen before.
Show me a king
Who can see through all postures
Scorning the bribe
And the fawning of frauds
Quick to decide
20
‘Gainst the trickster or bully
Sifting things righteous
Like no other gods.
Show me a king
Who would die for the wayward
Meekly accepting
The wicked’s cruel scorn.
And I will show you
21
A sure way to Heaven
Christ’s throne to share
With all gladly twice-born.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, these writings are mere facets of shimmering from the Diamond that is Jesus Christ. Out of the ground; released from immense pressures; alive evermore; proving dazzling and wonderful in ever-new revelations to the hungry, searching and contrite. Please draw many to the life-giving impact of your Four Gospels, Acts of Apostles and Psalms. Filled with light, comfort, help and hope. This I ask in Jesus’ Name. (Acts 4: 9-14) Amen
