A FAMILY AFFAIR
BY FAMILY AND MWR MARKETING
FROM THE DIRECTOR
COMMANDING GENERAL Maj. Gen. Stephen M. Twitty
Happy spring! I hope all of you have a smile on your face and a spring in your step. In this edition we celebrate and highlight “A Family Affair,” since April is the month of the Military Child, May is Mother’s Day and Spouse Appreciation and June is Father’s Day. Please take time out and celebrate the members of your Family. Those that do not have Families at Fort Bliss take some time for a personal phone call or handwritten card to send a hug in someone’s direction. I bet it will mean quite a bit to that person and will pay dividends for you. Your MWR team is hard at work with our daily operations but also working some new initiatives that will be promoted throughout the year. Our focus is on YOU as we work through the myriad of resource challenges and still bring quality programs. So, this spring get out and enjoy all MWR, El Paso and the surrounding areas have to offer in this great weather and camaraderie. See you out there!

MWR AWARENESS

Family and MWR Survivor Outreach Services
The term Gold Star Family is a modern reference that comes from the Service Flag. These flags and banners were first flown by Families during World War I. The flag included a blue star for every immediate Family member serving in the Armed Services during any period of war or hostilities in which the United States was engaged. If that loved one died, the blue star was replaced by a gold star. This allowed members of the community to know the price that the Family had paid in the cause of freedom. The United States began observing Gold Star Mother’s Day on the last Sunday of September, in 1936. The Gold Star Wives was formed before the end of World War II. The Gold Star Lapel was established in August of 1947. Today, the nation recognizes the sacrifices that all Gold Star Family members make when a father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, or other loved one dies in service to the nation.

Survivor Outreach Services is located at 241 Sheridan Road on West Fort Bliss.
The Survivor Outreach Services program (SOS), was established in 2009. The primary goal is to fulfill the Army’s commitment to Families of Fallen Soldiers “to be continually linked to the Army Family for as long as they desire.” Additionally, SOS staff provides various types of support on an ongoing basis helping Survivors with adaptation and change at different points in a Survivor’s life. This helps promote Survivor resilience and fosters Survivors’ well-being. There are several ways in which we recognize our Gold Star Families. The state of Texas offers state license plates that can be applied for at TexasDMV. gov. There is also the Gold Star Installation Access card and the Gold Star Decal both available at the SOS office. The installation offers designated parking spaces for Gold Star Family members, as well. The Army recognizes that no one has given more for the nation than the Families of the Fallen. Survivor Outreach Services is located at 241 Sheridan Road on West Fort Bliss. For more information, call 915-5685970.

Since 1986, the Department of Defense has declared April as the Month of the Military Child. It is during this month that we underscore the important role military children play in our armed forces communities and recognize their personal sacrifice. Fort Bliss and other military installations worldwide will celebrate our military children through various events and activities including fairs, picnics, carnivals, parades and more. At Fort Bliss, we hold our annual “Month of the Military Child/ Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (MCCASA) awareness campaign, and this year will mark the 12th annual walk which will be held on April 9, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The MCCASA walk is a 1-mile Awareness walk and event that will take place at Biggs Park located at 11388 Sergeant Major Boulevard. There will be jumping balloons, a fire truck display, McGruff the Crime Dog, SKIESUnlimited performances, prizes and food trucks.
The MCCASA Walk aims to enhance Soldiers’ and Family Members’ awareness of child abuse and to promote the healthy development of our military children. The Month of the Military Child is also an opportunity to recognize military children and youth for their heroism, character, courage, sacrifices and continued resilience. Community agencies, both on and off the installation will also partner with us to celebrate and honor our true heroes, our military children. Come enjoy this awesome annual event put on by Army Community Service’s Family Advocacy Program. Shirts will be available to the first 500 people. Those that registered online before the April 1 deadline will receive their shirts first. All remaining shirts will be available on a first come first serve basis on the day of the event. Strollers are welcome but pets are not allowed in Biggs Park. MCCASA Walk is open to all DoD ID Cardholders. For more information call 915569-4227. facebook.com/blissmwr
MWR MILO
Milo’s 1 year anniversary Hi friends, it’s me Milo your favorite MWR Mascot! Spring is here, spring is here, I am so happy that spring is here! As much as I love being bundled up under a blanket with my favorite red ball during the cold winter nights, I love spring time! I love to smell all the plants and flowers that are in bloom. I love that now I can roll around on the grass and soak up the sun without being all dirty. But, my favorite thing about spring is being able to get out and see all of my friends on Fort Bliss! Can you guys believe it has already been one whole year since I made my debut? Me either! I have had so much fun hanging out at MWR events, taking pictures and getting lots
of hugs and belly scratches! So far, in the past year I have been able to get out and get active at the 2015 Kids Day Fun Run, I got to hang out with other Mascots from all over the city at the School Liaison’s High Five School Recognition Ceremony, I got to enjoy the dog days of summer at Aquapalooza, and I was able to hang out with my friends at the Library. I also showed my patriotism at Pop Goes the Fort, wore my lederhosen at Oktoberfest, saw lots of ghouls and goblins at Monster Bash and met the Grinch at Holiday Fest! My friends at MWR really do a great job at putting on events for all of us to enjoy. But, I think 2016 is going to be bigger and better than ever! They have lots of fun and NEW events for the whole Family to enjoy. The Sports Department is doing an Under Water Glow Swim in April and a Movie Float in May. How fun, I love the pool and I always wear a life jacket. The fun doesn’t stop there, the Mickelsen Community Library is doing Paws for Reading for my little friends who are kind of shy and Saturday Stretch, a fun class to help with breathing and relaxing just in case you are dog tired. I’m pretty sure I am the luckiest pup around! I am super close to my friends at MWR and I love meeting Soldiers and Families at our events. What can I say, I am a very happy dog! See you guys around.

Meet Raul Reyes, our spotlight employee of the quarter. Raul is being recognized for his continued commitment and support to the Family and MWR organization. Raul began his career with MWR 28 years ago at the Recycling Center. Raul worked at the Recycling Center for 10 years and was responsible for picking up cardboard and recyclable materials around the installation and running the front desk of the facility. Raul then moved to the Family and MWR headquarters after the Recycling Center separated from MWR. He has been there ever since. As the official MWR Courier, Raul’s day to day responsibilities are pretty consistent. His main duty is to drive to approximately 40 MWR facilities every day and pick up and drop off mail. He also drops off books for the library and hand delivers important documents to Division Chiefs and facility managers. It’s a task that is often taken for granted but a much needed task nonetheless. Everyday Raul starts his route by stopping by the Marketing Office, and every day Raul is happy to see us! He walks in with a smile on his face and you can’t help but do the same. He has his special greetings for everyone in the office and always makes us feel like part of SPOTLIGHT Continue on page 23
The Underwood Golf Complex is blazing the trails with high tech advances found at no other course in El Paso. It started last fall with the addition of the 130 GPS systems installed across the golf cart fleet. The Visage GPS system is the first of its kind for Fort Bliss and the city. This mobile information system has many features to help improve not only the player’s game, but also their overall golf experience. These features include touch screen display with high-resolution graphics, fly-over videos of upcoming holes, electronic score card for up to four players, precise tee shot yardage, food and beverage ordering, direct messaging with the clubhouse and more. With the addition of all new golf carts this spring, Underwood Golf Complex is clearly setting itself apart from the competition. If that wasn’t enough to excite even the most novice golfer, coming early summer 2016 look for the introduction of Golfboarding! Is it a skateboard, is it a golf cart? Golfboarding is the wave of the future for the younger generation of golfers. This new mode of course transportation is meant to speed up the game and add a new dimension to the golf experience. Underwood will also become the only course in El Paso with a Trackman

Simulator. The simulator is just one of the new additions being installed into the remodeled teaching center. The Trackman system enables customers to track the full trajectory of any shot, from 6 foot pitches to 300 plus drives, pinpointing the landing area with an accuracy of less than 1 foot at 100 yards. It also displays the shot’s 3D trajectory together with 26 impact and ball flight parameters in real time data. The simulator will allow our customers to play golf indoors on some of the most famous courses in the world. “This is the best in golf technology out on the market today,” said Dallas Cooke, manager of the Underwood Golf Course. “The system is absolutely amazing and I’m excited to have the opportunity to bring this technology to the Fort Bliss community, our Soldiers, their Families, our members and guests.” Dallas and his team are paving the way for the newest innovations in the game. They’re hoping to reengage older golfers and inspire newer ones as well. His hope is to attract new golfers and increase the satisfaction of his loyal patrons who have been supporting Underwood for years. Dallas acknowledges that remaining stagnant in the everchanging game of golf is a course killer. Positive change is good and essential and that’s just what’s in store for the Underwood Golf Complex in 2016. facebook.com/blissmwr

The Bliss Bingo team cannot guarantee you cash but they can guarantee you’ll have a great time. An average of 20-30 players show up with their daubers and their good luck charms each night. Bingo Manager, Leesa Sheppard has been running the program for FMWR almost since its inception six years ago. Her ultimate goal has never wavered since day one. “I’ve always wanted to make the program fun. I enjoy my seasoned clients as well as newcomers; it is very exciting when a newcomer wins.” She accomplishes that by incorporating fun games and varying play for her customers. One of her favorites is called “Player of the Day.” The way it works is when the Player of the Day game is announced the last ball called on the winner’s card becomes the magic winning number and the winner becomes the “Player of the Day.” Every time that magic number is called throughout the evening $5 is added to a jar (with an initial $50 balance). At the end of the evening, the “Player of the Day” takes home the jar of money. Players are encouraged to take advantage of the delicious

Behind the scenes will be a quarterly series that takes a closer look at the inner workings of Fort Bliss Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR). It’s not easy keeping an organization like Family and MWR up and running effectively and efficiently. There are more than 50 “store fronts” and nearly 1,000 employees who work as a team to help keep Fort Bliss FMWR at the tip of the spear. Well-known for having some of the best quality of life programs and newest facilities in the Army, the reality is, it’s the people who make the magic happen in this organization. Let’s go “Behind the Scenes” with the Marketing department, where it begins with a simple idea that transforms

wholeheartedly in the important work that her team does each day. “I love the marketing department because we get to be the cheerleaders on the sidelines, shouting out all that is great about this organization. Our job is to sell you the idea that we are the best MWR in the Army with the best facilities, events and programs. It’s not a difficult idea to sell because it’s the truth.” Sarrah Morgan and Anna Sutton, marketing assistants, work with every department in FMWR to gather information about upcoming events around post. They are the link between the managers and graphic artists, Ray Sanchez and Kenny Broomfield. They design the creative posters, flyers and banners seen throughout the post. “I take what (Sarrah and Anna) give me in words and I make a visual representation of that,” said Sanchez. “You have to have a certain mindset, and all day we knock things out of what Martina Grise, office manager, looks through they give us. into a multilayered marketing campaign designed to get the word out about all of the amazing events and programs happening right here at Fort Bliss. The office consists of 11 individual employees, who function daily as one team. It is one of the largest garrison marketing departments in the Installation Management Command (IMCOM). The function of the marketing department is to ensure that eligible patrons of FMWR are informed and educated about all the organization has to offer. This is done through a variety of print, digital, and product marketing while capitalizing on all online, mobile and social media platforms. Michele Wiernicki is the manager of the marketing department and has been with MWR since 2010. She believes

Their designs are the basis for every marketing product that comes out of this office. Once the flyers are approved, Morgan and Wiernicki upload them onto social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the Bliss FMWR website. In addition to marketing, Morgan also writes articles for the Bliss NOW magazine and one special dog in particular. “I write all the Milo articles, I channel my German shepherd who is my muse when I write,” said Morgan. “A lot of the times I’m Milo’s handler too because I know the costume so well, and I know what Milo represents.” As the marketing products are brought to life, others are working throughout the El Paso area to enhance events through monetary contributions. YARD MWR LIFESTYLES

Spring time is here and for most of us that is a good thing, except of course if you own or rent a home. For those home owners or renters, spring time means breaking out the lawn mower, weed eater and bug killer. It also means spending our weekends on the yard instead of on the couch. Here at MWR we understand the struggle all too well, that is why we have decided to give our readers some easy tips on how to ease the pain this spring season. First, let’s tackle those annoying weeds. Most of us who live or work on post are not from El Paso, making the climate and the weeds something to get used to. Anytime there is a big or little rain for that matter you can expect to see weeds sprouting up in your yard. If they are left for even a day they can become a problem. But, no need to worry, you don’t always need weed killer to take care of the problem. Here are some tips on how to get rid weeds with household items.
the weeds and grass that are growing in cracks on your driveways, sidewalks or on your paved patios. Just sprinkle some baking soda onto the concrete and sweep it into the cracks, the sodium works right away to kill the weeds.
2-liter soda bottle
What if I told you a 2-liter soda bottle would help to get rid of weeds? Well, it can! If you have weeds growing in a garden or around grass or flowers just cut a 2-liter soda bottle in half and place the top half of the bottle over the weed you want gone. Then, spray or pour the weed killer into the top of the bottle. This helps isolate the weed so that your plants and flowers live long and thrive!
Salt
Lastly, we have salt. Salt is an excellent way to kill unwanted weeds in grass or between bricks. Just bring one cup salt and two cups water to a boil. Once the solution is hot pour directly on the weeds. Next, let’s talk about how to keep your grass green, probably the biggest struggle of them all! Baking soda Fort Bliss is right smack Baking soda is not just for in the middle of the desert, baking or cleaning. Baking making it almost impossible soda will also take care of to grow anything. If you have kids, then you know that April is the official month to celebrate military children, and what better way to do that than by attending a free Familyfriendly event? Stop by the Replica Youth Center Sports Field, on April 16 from 2-5 p.m. and participate in potato sack races, tug of war and a scavenger hunt. You can also test your balance on the wipe-out eliminator and get some energy out on the many jumping balloons and a 108ft obstacle course. It wouldn’t be a party without face painting! The fun doesn’t stop there, they will also have free hot dogs, chips and drinks for everyone in the Family as well as free t-shirts for the first 300 guests! Purple Up Block Party Coordinator, Carlos Calderon, a Child and Youth Program Assistant at the Replica Youth Center said, “Purple Up is a way to raise community awareness and support our Military Children.” Calderon also stated that, military kids go through a lot. They have to deal with deployments and go through Family PCS separations. They also see their parents suffer injuries while serving and unfortunately, some kids suffer the loss of a parent. “CYSS plays a great role in a military child’s life. Through programming of various recreational activities, sports, counselwww.bliss.armymwr.com

ing, and more, children are given the opportunity to step away from the reality of military life and enjoy their childhood,” said Calderon. “While their parents are working hard for our country, we are working hard by providing a clean, safe recreational and educational environment for their children.” Purple Up has been a major event for the Replica Youth Center for the last six years and it continues to grow! Calderon stated that the event has changed from 4-H activities focusing on nutrition to more carnival type activities. This year Purple Up continues to evolve. The Replica Youth Center has partnered with the Milam
Youth Center to bring you the Purple Up Block Party, a combination of Replica’s Purple Up and Milam’s Block Party. “Combining both events allows both facilities to collaborate, combine funds, manpower and staffing; it’s a great situation for everyone especially the kids!” Say “Thank you!” by wearing something Purple on April 16 and come and join us as we celebrate our Military Kids. Gymnastics team soars through
COMPETITION Angel Flores SKIES Program
The gym was silent; chalk dust was in the air as the crowd of parents held their breath. It was the first time ever, the SKIES Girl’s Gymnastics Team had an out of town competition. The girls hit the floor, making it roar, the gym was not so silent anymore. Parents filled the air with cheers, as the children tumbled and stuck their landings. This is just an example of the excitement that is brought forth by competitive gymnastics. In December 2015, the Fort Bliss SKIES Program put their skills to the test and registered for their first USA Gymnastics competition. USAG is the national based program for the United States that mandates national competition. The team was able to land a spot on the podium, bringing home the second place team trophy and a hand full of ribbons. The girls and their Families will remember this for the rest of their lives. Reading is fundamental, but for many children, acquiring the skill is a challenging task. Fortunately, thanks to an innovative program and a cooperative dog, the challenge is getting easier to meet. The Mickelsen Community Library has recently started “Paws for Reading,” a program that allows children to read aloud to a therapy dog in order to improve their reading, communication skills and to help alleviate self-esteem issues. Children read individually to a trained therapy dog in the library where they can feel comfortable, confident and have fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble. Though the children believe they are teaching dogs to read, in fact, with the dog as a comfortable, attentive audience (and with an occasional gentle assist from the dog’s handler), they are actually teaching themselves. As far as the child is concerned, however, reading is about the dog, not them. There’s no

Walking through the halls of the new CYSS Youth Sports Plex would make any adult wonder, “where was this when I was growing up?” The former Youth Plex previously housed Youth Programs for middle school and teens until they were forced to move to the Replica Youth Center (RYC) due to building damages and repairs. During the initial repair phase, a decision was made to permanently relocate Youth Programs to the RYC and to remodel the Youth Plex into a Youth Sports Complex instead. The construction and design phase is finally coming to an end and the grand opening is page 36
tentatively scheduled for early summer. Administrative Support Assistant, Laura Gillette, describes the center to be more about sports and fitness for all children at Fort Bliss. The goal is for children to declare “I’m going to have fun here!” when they enter the building. The CYSS Youth Sports Plex will have competitive and noncompetitive sports for children ages 3 through 18. The noncompetitive sports include soccer, t-ball, baseball, volleyball, flag football, basketball and tennis. The competitive sports are wrestling, cross country, track and field and tackle football. CYSS also partnered with El Paso Parks and Recreation, USA Track and Field Association and USA Wrestling to

play competitively around the city. The Youth Sports Plex will also offer many fitness options beyond organized team sports. Inside the center there are new fitness rooms such as weight lifting, mixed martial arts, cardio, and speed and agility rooms where children are able to train. Age limit restrictions have not yet been established for the different areas. Rene Nava, Director of the CYSS Youth Sports Plex, and Laura have been discussing the age limits. Safety will be the determining factor, however, there will be fitness opportunities for younger children to participate when accompanied by a parent. “At the Sports Plex we will

GET YOUR MASSAGE THERAPY AT SOTO PFC
Julia Petersen
Family and MWR Sports
The Enlisted military rank has been listed as the most stressful job in 2016 by Business News Daily, with a 25-point lead ahead of the second! The physical, mental and emotional demands of military service are a sacrifice that should not be taken lightly. Any tasks that can relieve or reverse these stresses are worth considering. Massage therapy is proven to be a beneficial factor to help reduce and reverse chronic pain for many people. Massage is recognized for its many healing properties proven to enhance sleep, mental performance and mood. Through regular massage, those with chronic pain from previous injuries can increase circulation, improve physical performance and recovery time, and create a better quality of life. The emotional demands for Soldiers is a topic many overlook, but is a very real part of military life. The responsibility and stress put on service members is immense which can wear down on the inside. Massage therapy offers a safe place to re-center and recharge. Additionally, for those service members suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, medical studies show that regular massage therapy can help reduce anxiety and improve the sleep quality. Massages can help progress toward a better mindset, dealing with stress in a more manageable way. It can
also improve the mood and outlook for those that struggle with depression. Family members who support and love our Soldiers have their own experience with stress of the military. Balancing Families, deployments, relocations, education, careers and everything else is an extreme undertaking. Having a chance to get away and recuperate is much needed for them, as well. Taking care of yourself is an important part in taking care of others. There is a saying, “you cannot give from something that is empty,” and it’s true! Inside the Soto Physical Fitness Center massage therapy services are offered with convenient times and fantastic prices. They have both male and female therapists who are educated, licensed and insured. It is a good idea to arrive 5-10 minutes early before getting a massage. There is a quick intake form for the therapist to learn about past injuries, goals for the treatment session, questions and concerns. The therapist will ask questions at this time to make sure that the massage will be tailored specifically to the person’s needs. Inside the treatment room, the client dresses down to their comfort level while the therapist waits outside. During the treatment it is encouraged to give feedback to make sure the pressure is correct for the client’s needs. After the treatment is finished the therapist will excuse themselves from the room so the client can redress. Afterwards, the therapist may discuss stretches or techniques to help maintain a better mechanical balance. To find pricing and book an appointment online, visit www.massageatsotogym.fullslate.com. BROWN BAG BOOK REVIEW OF ‘MY SOUTHERN JOURNEY’ Susanna Beirich Library Volunteer
This collection of stories is written by Rick Bragg, a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist and writer from Alabama. A regular guy with an extraordinary ability to tell a story, Bragg is captivating in these short stories about Family, food and the South. Bragg lived and worked across the southern states, and he shares personal experiences of the people and places. Some stories are bittersweet memories, such as his last trip he took with an elderly aunt; while others stories are laugh out loud funny. One story brought me to tears, about the old white dog in which his mother and brother rescued. The stories are very short, only a few pages each, making it an ideal book to
pick up and read when you have time. Bragg’s ability to draw you in with vivid descriptions of delectable food or a sunset over the Gulf of Mexico take you right back to where you left off. Yet the stories about his family – his aunts “made from whalebone and hell,” his strong and loving mother, and his stoic brothers – are the true standouts. His love and pride of his family is present throughout the book, yet he steers clear of heavy sentiment, telling his stories in honest, simple prose. By the end, you’ll not only want to visit every place he went, you’ll want to ask to be adopted by the Bragg family. Pick up a copy at the Mickelsen Community Library, and join us at the Brown Bag Book Club every third Thursday from 12-1p.m.

LIFE HACKS FOR YOUR
CLEANING NEEDS Marlo Brestar
Family and MWR Marketing
At one time or another, all of us have found ourselves frustrated with the ongoing and menial task of cleaning certain areas in our home. If you are short on time and looking for inexpensive cleaning products, this article is for YOU! Below you will find some simple cleaning hacks that will save you time and money using products that many of us will already have in our homes.
Bathroom Cleaning Hacks
Hard water deposits on your shower too hard to handle? Pour distilled white vinegar in a plastic bag and fit over the showerhead with a rubber band. Let soak for at least 1 hour then remove bag and wipe away what little residue may be left with a cloth.

Soap scum on shower door (left) and wall (right) before and after.
Soap Scum blocking your crystal clear view? Instead of scrubbing your day away, spray cooking spray on your door and tiles. Give it about 5 minutes and wash it off with soap and water. Just like magic, the oil in the spray dissolves the buildup. Slow drain, slowing you down? Drop 4 Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain, followed by 1 cup distilled vinegar. After 10 minutes rinse with boiling water. You will be pleasantly surprised at the difference.
Shower head cleaning hack.
Kitchen Cleaning Hacks
Kids and big kids alike refusing to cover their food when warming in the microwave? Cut a couple of lemons in half and place in a microwave safe dish with water. Microwave until water starts to boil. Let it sit and steam for a couple of minutes before opening. The food particles can now be wiped away with little to no effort. Does your smoke detector go off every time you turn on your oven? You can naturally clean your oven with a little vinegar, baking soda, and good ol’ elbow grease. Remove your oven racks. In a small bowl mix ½ cup baking soda and a few tablespoons of water to make a paste. Coat your oven’s interior surface, steering clear of the heating elements. Let it sit for at least 12 hours. Take a damp cloth and wipe out as
much of the dried baking soda paste as you can. To assist in removing the paste, put a little vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz where you still see baking soda residue. Repeat until all residue is gone. End result will be a clean and shiny oven. Do your sponges need a little refresher? Drop your sponges in with your next dishwasher load and they come out fresh and sanitized. This also applies to kid’s toy figurines and almost anything else that can withstand the heat. Do you have successful cleaning hacks of your own? Send us your personal, proven cleaning hacks for a chance to be featured in our next issue of BlissNOW! Summer 2016. Please include contact info, before and after pictures, along with specific instructions for your cleaning hack. Email to blissmwr@gmail. com and put CLEANING HACKS in the subject line.

it. Back in 2013 coach Jessica Guil and Angel came together and created an in house meet called “The Star Mountain Classic.” Children of all experience levels were given the chance to see what it feels like to be a part of a team and compete against themselves for a score on gymnastics apparatuses. They have successfully hosted this in-house meet annually for the past three years. The program helps train the children to compete at an entry level, which will give them the opportunity to continue on a competitive track. The goal is to get the children to continue in gymnastics at
higher levels, even after they move to another installation. “Begin here; go anywhere” is the motto of USA gymnastics. Angel was employed in September of 2012 and has helped evolve the SKIES Gymnastics Program. Angel provided the resources to expand the program from about 65 children to more than 300. In 2013, Angel launched a boy’s gymnastics program and in only one year that program became competitive. In 2014, the boys prepared for competition and successfully competed in 2015 in three USAG sanctioned competitions. For more information about the gymnastics program or other programs at SKIESUnlimited, call 915-568-5544.

to bring in outside sponsors and additional funding for the many Family events held annually on Fort Bliss. She does this by assuring the potential sponsors that Fort Bliss, “is where they want to invest their time and money to expand their customer base.” The marketing department is in a constant state of production and those products are not cheap. The marketing budget is not enough to be self-sustaining, that’s where Advertising Specialist, Marlo Brestar, comes in. She seeks out companies who are interested in advertising in a variety of print and digital options. The revenue that Marlo brings in offsets the high costs incurred by our robust department. The newest position to the MWR marketing team is Visual Production Coordinator. It was determined that someone was needed who could take on new digital challenges incorporating video, music and photography into our marketing campaigns. Chris Bohn has hit the ground running creating commercials, video web ads, 360 video marketing and much more in that short period of time. www.bliss.armymwr.com

“Part of the reason that we find so much success at Fort Bliss MWR is that we are always pushing the envelope. I hope to continue doing so in the way we communicate our messages to our customers,” said Bohn. Keeping the whole machine functioning is our Office Manager, Tina Grise. Tina is responsible for the daily operations and upkeep of the office from finances, budgeting and payroll to inventory, supplies and machine maintenance. And finally, you can’t have an article without a writer and you can’t have a magazine without an editor and that’s where I come in. As one of the newest additions, I’m excited and proud to announce that this is my first time writ-
ing, photographing and designing the Spring magazine. I produce layouts and write about many of the different programs that are coming up throughout the year inside Bliss NOW and also in the monthly calendar cards. I contribute weekly briefs for the Bugle, the El Paso Scene magazine and the El Paso Times. It’s not an easy job but it’s rewarding when we see the children and Families enjoying themselves at events that we advertised. We all take great pride in knowing that we helped get them there; we helped them make memories.
