had started as a homegrown sound turned into rays of pushing modern electro and funk music. This is how In On It, Planning To Tell Him and Ride On were released in 2012. Over their five years of existence, UhOh have played more than 100 shows around Europe and the USA: the North Side Arts Festival In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, the Design and Fashion Week 2012 in Milano, Badeschiff in Vienna, Theatron Festival in Munich, or the Lido in Berlin,

ina AC Casey, Red “El Nino Listo” and Bunny Buzz are UhOh. They play music that will make you dance and take you on a trip to a multicoloured neverland, diving head over heels into hypnotic bass lines, electronic beats and squirming synths, and exploding into a confetti rage. In 2008, after abandoning her conventional band outfits where she had played bass for a decade in power pop formations and indie rock bands like Miles, Crash Tokio and French-beatniks Phonoboy, Nina formed UhOh. Turning towards the microphone, she started sincere singing, dancing and composing her own private spherical pop-musical; and creating stage costumes. Teaming up for songwriting and some serious live action with Red “El Nino Listo” and Bunny Buzz, she then brought UhOh to the stage. In 2010, UhOh finally found a most perfect producer: Stockholm expat Anders Ehlin, who opened up his studio doors to let in the dance craze. His previous works include records of Soff y O., Paula and, of course, his very own outfit, Nom de Guerre. Together, they worked out the shape and sound of UhOh; what

ale skinned, blond haired, blue eyed southern chick Sophie spent a childhood of total artistic freedom, reading, writing and drawing whilst listening to Gainsbourg and Snoop Dogg, sometimes Nirvana, but mostly Dionne Warwick. Composer & songwriter, Sophie began playing with different bands, absorbing the patterns of sound around her. Something in her voice calls for the blues, with its melancholic sensuality and rough strength. But it was the decision of moving to Ber-
lin that began to feed Anything Maria‘s genesis, soon to become Sophie’s singing alter-ego. The young artist, inspired by psychedelic rock, techno, and electronica, enthusiastically first deploys her art in the sweaty nights of the German capital. This period suddenly opens the doors to dream collaborations with Nan Goldin for the Louvre Museum, Ernie Brooks from The Modern Lovers, Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth and Sabbath Assembly on their American tour.
She then won the SFR Young Talents award in 2010 and performed in front of 6,000 people at the Grand Palais in Paris. Her irresistible track Cook Him Up remixed by Yuksek pushed Sophie to decide to launch herself as a DJ, another of AM’s key components. After a few years traveling past Berlin, New York, and Seattle – being so eager to progress – Sophie is now back in Paris recapturing the essence of her bluesy voice while she melds an edgy electronic modernism. Supported by the young producer Henry Blanc-Francard; releasing a hot track together every three months – such as: Wild Heart, a feverish road trip through Texas; Holly Kiss, a funky electro gem, with a killer bass and a sexy dreamlike hook; Cold Smoke, the half nervous, half amused groove of vintage beats sewn together by a summer melody. These last few months, the young artist has scattered songs like Hansel and Gretel on acid. Or it may be just more of a nicely prepared musical striptease leading up to an album next year… Anything Maria’s brand new live DJ set The Bad Miss Tour starting in China in early 2013 combines her talent as a singer and musician with her skills as a DJ,
mixing and singing to her own releases, twisting and live-remixing the work of others with a touch of genius. One of the surprises of AM’s new show is that she now has a sidekick on stage, playing live drums & controlling effects. Together soundcloud.com /ACCa se y Facebook .com /ACCa se y
lots of other heavy equipment for the amusement of electronic music intellectuals, electro nerds and extroverted dancers alike since 2009. Krach usually has some dadaist treats for the audience in his metal hats; the whole show is mostly improvisation and pushes the public to react and participate to this encounter of another kind. The robot also offers sound workshops on the techniques of modif ying sound gadgets (circuit bending) and (feedback based) no-input music and entertains children with musical stories from his retro-future silver tray. Krach is a regular participant at Roboexotica, the annual Viennese fair for cocktail robotics and has already pleased crowds in clubs, art galleries and festivals such as .HBC, Raum, Madame Claude, R AW or Radialsystem in Berlin, Elevate Festival in Graz, Austria, Bent! in Los Angeles, USA, Rote Sonne in Munich or Hafenklang im Exil in Hamburg.

His passion for vinyl digging, collecting digital quirky old tracks, giving into niche genres and not being afraid of pop have led him to mix it all up in his sets from Hawaiian cumbia to old-school hip-hop and funk, 80s disco, 90s goodies and all the way to experimental kraut at renowned Berlin venues like Tausend, Prince Charles, KingKongKlub or Flamingo among so many more. nclassifiable and purely authentic with a little touch of tasty kitch, Aniaetleprogrammeur gather several influences under one style, their own. Berlin-based but originally formed in Paris in 2005, the band is composed of Hanrigabriel (direction/guitars/vox/synths), Tata Christiane (synths/machines) and Valquire Veljkovic (lights/synths/bass). The trio is a multidisciplinary art collective whose activities extend to fashion design (with the brand Tata Christiane), video, photography and graphic design. Their new and second album The Friendly Expectations of the Stars was released on Force Royale Records, Pale Music Int. (CD/digital, worldwide). A prolongation of their debut album Die Kir(s)che auf dem Kopf has been released in 2009 on Force Royale Records. Starting successfully, the album received critics of the international press and several songs have been featured on compilations and radio shows. Following the release, a 7” vinyl was released on Plastic Spoons Records, distributed via Rough Trade and Born Bad. On stage the enigmatic atmosphere is created by an immersion of effervescent smoke and dazzling stroboscopes. There is a perfect synchrony between stage design and sound as everything, including the lights, is programmed by the band. Aniaetleprogrammeur is a package of consistent contrasts, seducing crowds all over the world. They have already toured in venues and festivals all across Europe (for example, Fusion, Drop Dead and Moravian Industrial festivals, La Flèche d’Or and Batofar in Paris, SO36, Madame Claude, Urban Spree or W hitetrash in Berlin, Recyclart in Bruxelles) and in Japan.
In March your album War Songs was rereleased on Haute Areal. What feedback did you get so far from fans concerning the songs? Let’s twist the question around a little. Fans love the songs. But I was more interested in: 1. the approach to the clean recordings, vs. the home lo-fi ones (which was accepted by almost everyone, but I personally prefer the dirty home recordings), 2. those who are not fans – seem to at least fear me a little. Good. I like to keep em on a distance.
You’ve been raised in Tel Aviv. Are the lasting conflicts in Israel a reason why you wrote them? It’s rather the mentality that leads to these conf licts really. The macho-culture and the variety of discriminations. Yeepee! One of my favourite songs is Trampoline. Who is the girl you are describing in the song? Ever met her? Thanks, well, she’s a prototype really, based on the long-legged creatures that never say anything and hang out with us in the backstage at festivals, or wander around, hanging on someone’s arm. the ones I constantly get dumped for/in memory of- or compared with. Clearly, it’s a long lost fight – So what do I do? I wear my heels higher and my make-up bigger! (and become better at what i do). So what if I end up looking more like Divine than Jane Fonda! For better or for worse, I will never be one of these gals, but I will do plenty o’ things they will never be able to and will make their boyfriends fear me. That’s all I can do really, until someone who actually respects me as a human being will come along. Well, someone with a slightly less conventional taste.
Who or what inspires you to write music? What? Desperation, fear, loneliness, doubt, anger. But also – hope, lust, excitement, confidence. Who? A fantastic group of people, who all broke free from their chains, from intolerance and isolation to a world of glitter and moral support.
The best gig you’ve ever had. Where was it? About a month ago at the Venice biennale, I was invited by the Mother festival collective, who have been incredibly supportive over the last three years. The crowd was absolutely fantastic!

What about Mary And The Baby Cheeses? Can we expect something new in the future or do you prefer being a solo artist? What does Travelling mean to you? Where do you feel home? The Shrines’ drummer, Mirko, started coming to more and more shows and one day he invited Arish (King Khan) along. To my absolute wonder he liked it so much that he offered to record together and then produced almost the entire second album (except for the ambient tracks). And then it extended to all sorts of unexpected directions. We’ll see what happens later on. No idea. But it’s been amazing so far! He has a fantastic taste for everything obscure and eccentric and I’ve been a huge fan of his work for a long long time, hoping to meet him one day.
At the moment there’s more comfort in playing solo. But perhaps. Traveling solo can be a pain.little doo-wop number.
Was zunächst
I hope you’re travelling just fine / Home is where your heart is / Well mine is locked downtown.« Author: Stefan BuschFotos: © Sandra Thiedecke
