Dear Key Clubbers, Welcome back to another September! It's a bit disappointing that summer is over already, however your BHS Key Club board has prepared plenty of events to help out our community and beyond this year. There will be no shortage of service hours to earn, and some are coming up soon. Look on page 6 for what events you can sign up for or help out with and earn hours early on! Fall Rally is October 8th, and with that date comes the excitement of who is going to be able to go. 30 tickets are available and more information will be available as the date comes closer. Key Club provides many benefits to its members. Not only does it show community involvement on college applications, but it teaches high school students to be selfless and caring. Key Club provides opportunities to be with friends, have fun, and help your area. If you have not already, recommend Key Club to your friends and freshmen to include them in BHS activities. As the year progresses, more plans from the board will be revealed, and this year will prove to be more fun than the past. Stay tuned!

Yours in caring and service, Jamianne Kelly BHS Key Club Bulletin Editor

President and Advisor Notes

Welcome back Key Clubbers! We all hope you are ready to get your hands dirty and get involved in our community service projects coming up! First thing that is coming up is our annual car wash which is September 23rd from 9AM to 2PM at the BOE parking lot! This is a super fun service event and a super easy way to get hours so early in the school year! After that we will be volunteering at the Walk for Pediatric Cancer Research and Awareness, this event will be held at Oakside Manor and it is on September 24th. We ask all volunteers to bring $2 or $3 dollars so we can donate to the cause and all the donations will be going to the Megan's Miracle Makers. Be on the look out for the volunteer spots that will be sent out via remind. If you ever have a question or need an agenda stop by the Key Club office because someone will always be there!

Sincerely from your president,

Emilio Villegas

Hello Key Clubbers! Happy September! Welcome back to school! We are so excited to continue with a brand new service year. Since the beginning of a new school year can be hectic, please make every effort to stay connected so you receive the most up to date information about our club. Our general meetings will continue to be held every other Tuesday, right after school, in the cafeteria. If you are unable to attend, please ask a friend to grab you an agenda or stop by the Key Club office at any point to pick up a copy. Make sure you are constantly checking our social media sites, along with receiving our very important Remind101 messages that are sent out with important information. If you cannot access any of these updates, any of our board members would be happy to assist you! Just stop by the Key Club office before or after school, or even during your lunch period. Our membership night will be held October 3 at 6pm in the BHS cafeteria. This is where current Key Clubbers can renew their memberships and brand new students can join. Lastly, don’t forget to start earning those service hours right away at our Car Wash on September 23 or The Pediatric Cancer Awareness Walk at Oakeside on September 24.  Hope to see you there! Mrs. Gasparri

LTG NOte

Div. 18 LTG Alex ryan Hello, Bloomfield Key Club! I am excited to see the beginning of another school year. A quick introduction of myself for any new Key Clubbers – my name is Alex Ryan, I am a junior here at BHS and I am the Lieutenant Governor of our Division. Now that the summer has come to a close, it is time to return to work. For us Key Clubbers, it is a fun thing – we get to return to service as well as enjoying our friends. While the back to school chaos of September can make it hard to find time for donating your precious time, do not worry – here are some tips to help you with back to school service! First of all, it is worth mentioning that even the slightest amount of time helps! Even if you can only volunteer 10 to 30 minutes at a bake sale or only attend half of a meeting, you are still helping. Second, it always helps to establish a routine. At the beginning of the year, it is easier to establish a routine because your daily schedule is new. Be sure to allocate some time in your day or week to include service – if you forget about it now, it is easy to slide down the slippery slope of forgetting entirely! Third, plan ahead. If you know a Key Club event is coming up in a week or two, try keeping your schedule clear for that date! (This one has helped me a lot). Lastly, as a last resort, don’t be afraid to step back from Key Club for a while. While we love all the help we can get, we also want you to be the best ‘you’ you can be! Key Club is always here, and we are always welcoming, so even if you need to step back for a while, there is always room for you to come back! I hope that all of these tips will help you guys make the transition back to school and Key Club easier. If you have any questions about these tips or in general, don’t be shy! Email me at ltg18.ryan@gmail.com, and I will be sure to get back to you! Sincerely, Alex Ryan LTG Division 18

OCTOBER 8

Fall Rally! Come to Six Flags and join hundreds of Key Clubbers from across the District of New Jersey Key Club. Be warned... Fright Fest will be in full swing.

Car Wash and Sunset Classic Our car wash June 10th was very successful, and we had a visitor who was not a member of Key Club yet helped out as we washed cars and had fun. We also were visited by immediate past president Jimmy Keseling. Our members who volunteered would highly recommend wearing shoes and clothes that dry quickly and would not be bothersome when wet. We hope to see some of our volunteers again on September 23.

June 29th, Key Clubbers volunteered with the Sunset Classic to run water stations for the runners. They greatly appreciated our help, as it is an annual event we help out with. Keep an eye out for next June to get service hours to overlap to your next service year. We had a great turnout this year and next year should be even better.

NEW MEMBERS THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT JOINING

WHAT IS KEY CLUB? Key Club is a club designed around helping your community. The four core values of key club are leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. Every club has a board of leaders who are more than willing to help out new members and get them involved so be willing to reach out to any of us! We all build each other and caring is our passion, whether it is for other members our community, or our world. Everyone is included and welcome to join.

2%

HOURS FROM BAKE SALES (51 HOURS)

9%

HOURS FROM AFTER SCHOOL PROJECTS (205 HOURS)

Why do these matter? Active members are how we keep our club running smoothly. Without members volunteering their time and effort, we won't have a Bloomfield Key Club. To have so many inactive members means our club is not as successful as it should be. Bake sales and after school projects are two of the easiest ways to earn hours, so be sure to be involved and pay attention to them.

We have opportunities to earn hours every month. Check your email and stay on our Remind to know about these hours. We have simple after school projects, you can bring in donations when we ask for them, or sign up to volunteer at an event for hours. No matter what, make sure to sign in or write your name on your donation.

At every event, we have someone with a sign in sheet where you write your name, grade, and time you got to the event. At our meetings with service projects, we will pass around one of these sign in sheets. If you bring in baked goods for a bake sale or any other donations we ask for, be sure to put your name on it. If you do not do this, you will not get the hours.

And as always, welcome back to another service year from your BHS Key Club Board!

MEMBER INCLUSION

Why it's Important Our club runs on member support. Without the members, we have no club. It is important to have the members involved, from the board members to the general members. There are more ways than simply volunteering to be involved in Key Club. In my editorials, I attempt to include members through showcasing their artwork, providing a contest, and providing an easy access to contact information. Never be afraid to reach out to any of your board members at any time. We are all ready to help!

ARTWORK

Send pictures or copies of poems or artwork including drawn or digital art to Jamianne Kelly at any contact.
