Presidential Message October is always a great month in Key Club! This time of the year is the best time to really become involved in the club because of the multitude of events taking place. October began with one of my personal favorites-- Relay for Life. We raised money for the American Cancer Society while spending a night celebrating those who are battling and survived cancer, or have passed in their fight. We also spent an incredible day at Six Flags with Key Clubbers from all over New Jersey for Fall Rally. Although the weather was pretty bummy, I am sure all who went enjoyed themselves! Committee meetings for the Haunted Hall-Ows have began. Our club has been working hard in preparation for the event by brainstorming ideas for each room and bringing in decorations. We also have some town events this month that Key Club will be participating in such as Scream on the Green, the Soccer Tournament for David Loza, Movie Night for Christina Lembo, and the Halloween Math Night! I cannot wait for the Haunted Hall-Ows to come! It always a satisfying feeling when I see all of the club's hard work come together and become a success. October is almost over and I am enthusiastic to see what the rest of the year will bring. I believe that we have a great group of members this year who are willing and able to participate in all that Key Club has to offer. Our Freshman this year are especially notable. I applaud the club this year for an increase in membership (we have about 240 members this year!), unprecedented commitment, and an incredible amount enthusiasm!

Advisor Comments For those of you who are still trying to figure out what this “key club” thing is all about, let me fill you in on what you have become a part of! Key Club is an international organization comprised of thousands of high school students in over 25 different countries. We are the largest high school community service-based organization in the world! Our goal is to help those in need throughout our home, school, and community. Bloomfield continues its tradition of being the #1 club in the New Jersey District of Key Club International and occasionally places on an international level. I am telling you this because you should know that this is the premier organization to belong to in our school and how our commitment to serving our community is recognized both at the local and international level. So you might be wondering how we are the #1 Key Club in NJ?! Well, think about what you have done since the school year began and you will start to understand what I am talking about. I am most proud of everyone who has stepped up to work on our second annual Haunted Hallows. I am sure we will have a great turnout on Saturday, October 27 th when we transform the high school into a kids Trick-or-Treating extravaganza! The proceeds from this event will benefit UNICEF. In conjunction with the Haunted House we will be presenting this cause to the 5 th and 6th graders in Bloomfield to raise even more money for this organization. Further down on the calendar, I am very excited to say that we will be planning our first ever Membership Induction Night and of course our longest running event – the Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner. I hope everyone has enjoyed being in Key Club so far…if so tell a friend to join! Yours in Caring and Service, Lou Cappello

Congratulations Sasha Mendez! Sasha, on behalf of the whole Bloomfield High Key Club Executive Board and I, we would like to take the time to thank you for your hard work. We saw your enthusiasm and determination and noticed how interested you were at events and getting involved. You are truly a dedicated member and is the main reason why we chose you to be our Member of the Month. Keep it up and thank you for your hard work!

Haunted Hall-ows The Haunted Hall-ows, the main Halloween event of your own Bloomfield High School Key Club, has been a tradition to our Key Club for many years. With a wide Variety of items, this event is a club favorite. It includes arts & crafts, a game room, movies in the media center, a touch & feel room, face painting & tattoos, a nice hallway, and finally the scary hallway! All profits or donations go to UNICEF. We've held this event for kids k3 in the past, but this year we made a little change and added 4th grade as well! This year our

haunted hallows event will be held on October 27, from 11-3pm.

Throughout the years, the kids, as well as the adults have had a great and enjoyable time! Please tell family and friends to donate and help this event be a successful one this year! Joel Shaji Membership Director

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Hello fellow Key Clubbers, as you know Halloween is right around the corner and it is time to get your costumes and get out there and trick-ortreat. Since 1994, Key Club has partnered up with UNICEF to help raise money to support Iodine deficiency programs worldwide, HIV and AID programs in Kenya and Swaziland, as well as teen centers around the world. This year we are focusing on "The Eliminate Project", which will provide resources as well as supporting the

elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus with UNICEF and partners. Just $1.80 can help save a life. So on October 31st go out and Trick-or-Treat fro UNICEF! For additional information please visit: www.TheEliminateProject.org Manny Diaz Historian

Fall Rally Recap On October 7, 2012 all Key Club members of New Jersey came in union for the annual Fall Rally! For those of you that have not experienced this event, Fall Rally is an amazing New Jersey District event held at the Six Flags every year. When you come join us, you will be part of thousands of other dedicated Key Club members who come to cheer and praise our club. This is a fun way to gather or make friends outside of school. We also get to meet the inspirational District Board who speak about the wonders and goals Key Club is participating in. For example, Key Clubbers learn about our new goals for the District Project. At the Fall Rally, you can express your enthusiasm to battle against other districts for the Spirit Stick. This is a group participated competition to cheer and shout louder than the other

divisions for the Spirit Stick. This is a group participated competition to cheer and shout louder than the other districts. Soon after the encouraging Fall Rally ceremony, within moments, the great adventure begins. A whole day of thrilling rides, carnival games, and food is to be enjoyed with fellow Key Club members. Come join our next Fall Rally to mingle with Key Club, learn about our upcoming events and goals, cheer for our great Division Seventeen Lieutenant Governor, Ashna Bhatia, and have a great time with the whole New Jersey Key Club District. Hope to see you all next year at Fall Rally Rina Hahn
