BHS Key Clubbers, Fall is in full swing and Key Club is as well. The past two months have been filled with events and members. We could not be happier with how enthused members are to be coming to events and participating in Key Club activities this year. We hope this attendance continues, especially as our biggest event of the year approaches - Thanksgiving Dinner. It is a common favorite in the community and is a great way to connect to both younger and older generations in Bloomfield. After November, we begin our winter festivities. The service never stops in BHS and more events are to come throughout the seasons. Yours in caring and service, Jamianne Kelly BHS Key Club Bulletin Editor

Dear Key Clubbers, October has been a spooky month for Bloomfield High School Key Club! On October 7th, members from our club attended Fall Rally at Six Flags. Hosted by the New Jersey District of Key Club, Bloomfield High School members enjoyed an informational session about upcoming events and spent their Sunday riding roller coasters. Not only this, Key Club board members went on the first leg of the second annual Key Traits 4 Kids field trip on October 23rd. Going to every third grade classroom in Bloomfield, Key Clubbers taught lessons about empathy, kindness, courage, and tolerance. Our second visit will be on November 13th. To end our month, Key Club general members with five or more hours were awarded at the Pinning Ceremony on October 30th. The ceremony was meant to celebrate the dedication and hard work that these general members put in. The board members are very excited for the upcoming events we’re planning. The Key Club season is just beginning!

Fall Rally A district meeting followed by a day in the park! We lost (and found) Tito the tomato over the course of the morning.

Some Key Clubbers explored and found the turtle exhibit just in time to get some pictures.

Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner THINGS TO DO

After school, grab some food and come back to help set up for the annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner. If you can't make it, come later for helping with the event where you can serve food and drinks to the guests.

WISDOM

Ask the guests questions and introduce yourselves. They tell great stories if you ask respectfully!

KEY TRAITS FOR KIDS MAIN FOCUSES: KINDNESS AND EMPATHY

What did we do? Two Key Clubbers went to each third grade classroom in Bloomfield to read Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson and The Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena or The Sneetches by Dr. Suess and Ruby Bridges by Robert Coles. With each book, a lesson was taught to the kids about either kindness or empathy, along with activities such as skits and dropping beads in to a bucket to give them a hands-on learning experience. Key Clubbers also spent lunch with the children, reminiscing in their memories of elementary school.

October Updates

THE YEAR SO FAR This year so far has been busy with a lot of opportunities for Key Club members to get hours at the many events we have had, but in my opinion this year so far has been eye opening in regards to what Key Club is all about. As my first year as an advisor I’m really seeing so many students who are hard at work trying to do things to help the community and their peers within the school. It is pretty awesome! It has been a great start to this year! I look forward to the many events we have the rest of the year and the fun times as well!!

October Updates

ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE The year so far is going great! I have learned a lot since the September from Mrs. Gasparri and I know I still have more to learn. I as a new advisor need to find a balance with my new responsibilities but am figuring it out. Despite the fact that it has taken longer than I would like it to. What I have seen so far has been great and encouraging; I find it fascinating watching young adults help their community and reach out to students in the elementary schools, reading and teaching valuable lessons. I am sure there are plenty of things that need to be addressed, such as communication. However, what club, or even institution, doesn’t have these obstacles to overcome? Looking forward I see nothing but greatness for the 2018-2019 school year.
