Dear Key Clubbers, October brought spooky twists to Key Club as it does every year. Participation in events is important and as usual, the Thanksgiving Dinner turnout was extremely high and will most likely be the largest number of participants this service year. Next month will bring holiday events and hour opportunities. After that, there will be many more times to work on DCON projects to earn hours and help the BHS Key Club prepare for March!

Yours in caring and service, Jamianne Kelly Bulletin Editor of Bloomfield High School Key Club

October

Dear Key Clubbers, November has been great in terms of service! On November 21st, our club held our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. This event allows for senior citizens in our town to come and enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving meal that is served by our general members, as well as enjoy music provided by our schools select orchestra and choir. Members had the opportunity to not only earn service hours for helping but also were given the chance to talk to the people who attended. This was a great way to show what community service was about and how we were helping others. The event was a great success and everyone had a great time. November had lots of member involvement and i hope for this to continue for months to come. Yours in caring and service, Emilio Villegas

ANSWER QUESTIONS

Club Fair is one of the easiest ways to gain publicity for Key Club. At club fair, many new members visited the Key Club table and received a brochure. Students asked questions, which were answered by board members running the table. New members are now officially Key Club members due to Club Fair.

DIVISION 18 CRAFT FAIR

WHAT IS DIVISION 18? Division 18 is Bloomfield's division for the District of New Jersey Key Club. Our division's LTG is Alex Ryan.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

WHAT WILL BE THERE?

Tell your parents, friends, family, and overall advertise for the event. You can go yourself and buy holiday presents for friends and family as well.

There will be small businesses and crafters selling their products at tables in the BHS Main Gym. It will be similar to craft fairs at Brookdale park, only inside,

WHY SHOULD WE SUPPORT? Division 18 is connected to our school's club. It is a larger group of high school key clubs like ours within our area. By supporting the division, we are supporting Key Club International on a larger level than our relatively small club. If you go to District Convention (DCON), you can meet kids from other clubs not only from Division 18, but also from around the state. More information about DCON will be in a later issue.

Coffee House WHAT IS IT?

The Bloomfield High School Key Club will be hosting a coffee house at Oakeside Manor on January 12th. The proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of New Jersey, which is the District Project for the New Jersey Key Club: Hunger in New Jersey. Coffee will be served and members can bring in baked goods for a service hour. It will be an open-mic night and students can perform in many ways including singing, reading a poem, playing an instrument, or any other talent they wish. More information available next issue.

SPORTS AND KEY CLUB WINTER SEASON The winter sports started this month and while they are not typically as common as fall or spring sports, many athletes still participate in the various options. Activity period is important to keep your grades up and get work done, giving you more time to participate in Key Club events. Even so, running to a store and buying a box of cookies for a bake sale is an easy and fast way to get service hours. Being an athlete DOES NOT mean that you can not also be in key Club. Go for it!

HOW CAN YOU DO IT? Sometimes it's hard to find a balance between school, sports, and key club. Yet, it is far from impossible. Many students have done it before, and more will continue to through the years. To help you get started, here are some basic tips.

PUT SCHOOL FIRST If your grades don't make the cut, sports don't matter and neither should Key Club. If you have a tournament, bring some schoolwork and work on it in the extra time you have.

WEEKENDS AND EVENINGS Many events are run on Friday nights and weekends that are easy for athletes to go to. Weekends mean you have time to get schoolwork done, so hop over to an event after practice.

BAKE SALES AND DONATIONS Bake sales are an easy hour for everyone. Stop by a store and pick up a box of cookies after practice and bring it in for the hour. Or bring in any other donations we ask for.

From Your LTG Dear BHS Key clubbers,

LTG elections will take place January 13th. If you are interested in becoming the next Division 18 LTG of the New Jersey District Key Club contact me at ltg18.ryan@gmail.com or at 973-464-3368. You will have to arrive early and be prepared with a five-minute speech as to why you would be an optimal candidate as well as being prepared to answer various questions. These questions can be found in a flyer which I can send you should you reach out to me. Have two members who will nominate you for the position and second the nomination. I will also send you the packet of preparation questions and requirements. Be sure to dress professionally the day of. Each club in Division 18 must send two candidates who are prepared to vote for the next LTG of the division. You are not permitted to ask irrelevent questions that have no impact on the qualifications of the LTG nominees. Each of the two members will vote on the next LTG and welcome them to their new position.

Yours in caring and service, Alex Ryan LTG of Division 18
