Preseidential Message

Hello everyone! Coming up this month we have the Giving tree (my favorite), Coat drive and Tea with Ms. Claus. Additionally there is a divisional event, Eliminathon. The Giving tree will continue throughout December, which gives everyone more than enough time to participate. The coat drive and tea with Ms. Claus happen to fall on the same day which means we need as many volunteers as possible. If you enjoy hands on service then the coat drive and tea are definitely your kind of event. We have had two major events so far this year and the help from the members has been great. The Halloween Event could not have been pulled off with out all of the help and supplies you guys brought in. The parents and children loved it! The Thanksgiving Dinner was amazing. Although the first two events went well we still have several more events planned for this year. Some events require more work than others, but we still need our members. Every year we try to change the events for the best and we are on the right path this year to do just that. The hard work you are putting in is greatly appreciated. Thank you, to all the members who come early and stay after.

Rosalyn Feliciano, BHS Key Club President

By Vietta Borbotti, Membership Director UNICEF is the 'United Nations Children's Fund'; and was founded to "work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease, and discrimination place in a child's path". UNICEF creates projects, such as The Eliminate Project, to end one of the obstacles facing children. The Eliminate Project was created with the plan in mind to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetnus, or MNT, from every country. For the past few years the K Family has teamed up with UNICEF to earn money for The Eliminate Project.

The students were eager to help, so we informed them the best way they could contribute is through Trick or Treat for UNICEF. All they would have to do was bring the orange Trick or Treat for UNICEF box around when they went Trick or Treating and ask for donations. If they did not go out on Halloween, they could also ask neighbors and relatives, since every cent helps. After the presentation, the children asked us questions they may have still had. We were pleased to see so many of the elementary school students willing to learn more about MNT and The Eliminate Project. It was amazing to see them all wanting to make a difference and help out. While at Demarest School, I learned that they had already set a $1,000.00 goal. As if that was not impressive enough; they had already raised over half of their set amount!

On October 29th, some fellow board members and I went to the local elementary schools to discuss with the fifth and sixth graders how they can help too. We discussed with them the back story of UNICEF and The Eliminate Project, and how it only takes $1.80 to save a mother and her future children. We mentioned how there were originally 59 countries battling MNT. The number has since gone While the trip to the local schools was meant down to 24 countries thanks to The Eliminate Proto be an educational one for them, it was also a ject, and the help of the K Family. great experience. I hope to have the same response from next years students!

By Josh Mariscal, Vice President On October 25th, 2014, Bloomfield High School held its annual Halloween event, this year entitled “Ghouls in the Schools. Children ages 5-8 were invited to our 3rd Floor, which was transformed into a spectacular Halloween adventure. The event, running from 9-2:30, included various Halloween-based games, Arts & Crafts, face painting, pumpkin painting, and concession stands. A total of $570 was raised, all of which went towards UNICEF. Along with our Halloween event, we went to the elementary schools around our town the week after to explain our partnership with UNICEF, and asked for them to help collect money around their neighborhood for this cause. I hope everybody who attended had a great time!

By Rosalyn Feliciano, President The Senior Citizens Thanksgiving was wonderful. The decorations looked amazing thanks to our creative members. We spent hours on the center pieces, pine cone turkeys and thanksgiving sign, but the effort did not go unrecognized. The Senior citizens loved it all. Everyone worked so well together with set up and clean up, which played a key role in the success of the event. It was great to see all of the members interacting with the not only the senior citizens but the Builders Club members as well. The members did a great job making a system to serve both the drinks and the food. Some people really stepped up during this event, and that helped out a lot. Key Club it all about volunteering and building leadership, seeing the club succeed in both areas made all of the hard work worth it. I hope the rest of this year goes above the standard we set with the Thanksgiving Dinner.
