Dear Key Clubbers, October brought spooky twists to Key Club as it does every year. Participation in events is still extremely important and as the year progresses, fewer people will sign up for events so be sure that you continue to get your hours in. Hopefully you all had a great Halloween and are ready for November. Thanksgiving is coming up and soon after... winter break! Be ready for upcoming holiday events. Key Club week was the first week of November. What will you do to promote service?

Yours in caring and service, Jamianne Kelly Bulletin Editor of Bloomfield High School Key Club

October

Dear Key Clubbers, October begins the service year for our beloved general members! On October 3rd, our board held Membership Night where new members of Key Club could sign up and learn more about the organization. On October 8th, our club attended Fall Rally (run by the New Jersey District Board) at Six Flags. After being updated about the district service projects, our members rode roller coasters and enjoyed the day at the amusement park. October proved to be a successful time for our club and I hope it continues just as well as it did this month. Yours in caring and service, Emilio Villegas

HAUNTED TRAIL

Annual Scares Key Club is asked to help run the Haunted Trail by the Civic Center each year. It is a great opportunity for hours, and our members had plenty of fun scaring trail walkers and guiding the tours through the "haunted" trail.

H O W T O H E L P Bring in baked goods, whether you make them yourself or buy them from a store. If you can't do this, spread awareness of the bake sale and make a purchase there.

Bring extra money for dinner at the concourse at Rockefeller Center and be ready to take pictures with or of the Rockefeller Tree.

FALL RALLY

WHAT IS FALL RALLY?

WHAT DID WE DO?

WHAT IF I MISSED IT?

Fall Rally is a District Key Club event held annually at Six Flags Great Adventure. New Jersey District divisions meet and have fun.

We first had a district meeting, including announcements, reminders, and the spirit stick. After the meeting, everyone was released to have fun in the park.

There will be another Fall Rally in the Fall of 2018, also held at Six Flags Great Adventure. DCON will also be held this spring and be longer than Fall Rally.

WHAT'S NEXT? DCON is a themed district event held every year at Ocean Place resort in Long Branch. This year's theme will be announced later this year. Last year's theme was space, and the jokes and puns were endless. They will certainly be at this service year's District Convention as well. There will be two dances, a free t-shirt, district board elections, and more. Fall Rally may be gone, but DCON is just beginning.

THANKSGIVING 11/21 DINNER

Join us November 21st at 3:30 in the BHS cafeteria to earn service hours at our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Talk to senior citizens (they love it) as you serve them dinner. The BHS Select Orchestra and Madrigal Choir will be performing as well.

OFF SEASON TIME PRACTICES ARE OVER and that means more time for Key Club! While that may sound dorky or biased, it's true. November has plenty of hour opportunities for members who participate in fall sports and may have missed many events during the season. Bake sales, the Thanksgiving Dinner, and volunteering at the Soup Kitchen are all fantastic ways of earning hours while you can. One day of a missed workout for volunteering is not wasted. Have fun and take your chances.

HOW CAN YOU DO IT? Sometimes it's hard to find a balance between school, sports, and key club. Yet, it is far from impossible. Many students have done it before, and more will continue to through the years. To help you get started, here are some basic tips.

PUT SCHOOL FIRST if your grades don't make the cut, sports don't matter and neither should key club. If you have a tournament, bring some schoolwork and work on it in the extra time you have.

WEEKENDS AND EVENINGS Many events are run on Friday nights and weekends that are easy for athletes to go to. Weekends mean you have time to get schoolwork done, so hop over to an event after practice.

BAKE SALES AND DONATIONS Bake sales are an easy hour for everyone. Stop by a store and pick up a box of cookies after practice and bring it in for the hour. Or bring in any other donations we ask for.
