Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet welcomes former world number one amateur and rising star Viktor Hovland to its Golf Dream Team. The 21-year-old player from Oslo, Norway, turned professional Henry Bennahmias welcomed Viktor to the family: “We are extremely the week after the U.S. Open, where he finished T12 and broke the championship’s 72-hole amateur scoring record. His performance at Pebble Beach gave him low amateur honours in a major for the second time this year after finishing 32nd in the Masters last April, for which he had qualified by winning the 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship. The promising talent from Norway is off to a great start into professional golf adding two T13 finishes in his first four tournaments as pro. “I’m very proud to team up with Audemars Piguet and be part of their roster of world-class players,” said Viktor. “The Manufacture is always pushing the boundaries in its domain, exactly what I’m looking forward to doing in the game of golf!” Audemars Piguet Chief Executive Officer François-

This unique space offered the intense experience of weaving through the darkness lit up by a post-modern symphony of fluorescent wires, to the sound of distinctive music. On the event’s highly sensory artistic trail, wonderstruck visitors also found themselves surrounded by veils softly blowing in an artificial breeze, and enveloped by a uniquely feminine aura of gentleness and sensuality. The sense of exquisite otherworldliness was further highlighted by a forest of mirrors encircling a Lamborghini; while a watchmaker demonstration offering a real-time insight into its world of unbridled creativity was a perfect illustration of the brand’s intensely dualistic nature.Artfully nurtured by these fascinating visual, auditory and tactile features, the journey culminated in a complementary taste explosion at a spectacular gala dinner, setting the finishing touch to an emotion-charged, unmistakably Mad but Swiss occasion.

Tag Heuer Unveils New Monaco Limited Edition At The Exclusive Event In Le Mans

E

dition. The setting for the exclusive big reveal couldn’t have been more fitting – in the 1971 film Le Mans, actor and “King of Cool” Steve McQueen sported the iconic timepiece, securing its place in horological history. As a tribute to the Monaco’s cinematic debut, guests – including Steve McQueen’s son, Chad McQueen – enjoyed a special screening of the famous film in the place where it all began. Every aspect of the Monaco timepieces design was radical and went where no other watch 16

had ever gone before in terms of design and technology. Not only was the TAG Heuer Monaco the first ever water-resistant square watch, it was also the first to feature an automatic-winding chronograph movement. In honour of the Monaco’s 50th anniversary, five limited editions will be successively revealed throughout the year. These new models are inspired by the different decades from 1969 to 2019 and pay tribute to a style icon now more contemporary than ever. The special collector’s


editions unveiled in 2019 pay tribute to the Monaco’s timeless design and TAG Heuer’s never-ending innovation. After the unveiling of the first model at the Monaco Grand Prix in May, TAG Heuer was proud to reveal the next limited-edition model celebrating the period from 1979 to 1989 in Le Mans, France. The first model took inspiration from the years 1969 to 1979 – the first decade of the Monaco’s history.

Red-hot racing through the 1980s Hot on the heels of the first of the five timepieces, the second model reveals a fiery design with a bold red dial synonymous with cutting-edge design and racing victory. Presented on a black calfskin strap punctured with holes lined in red, this special edition captures the speed and style of the Monaco’s second decade. The stainless-steel model, with its iconic square case, features a red sunray dial and two rhodium-plated subdials with curved edges. Black and white accents on the dial perfectly complement the black-tipped hour and minute hands. The hands and indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova® for improved legibility. As with the original, the pushers are on the right of the case while the crown is on the left – an unconventional feature that has distinguished the Monaco over the past 50 years. The caseback of this 1980s-inspired wristwatch is engraved with the “Monaco Heuer” logo as well as “1979-1989 Special Edition” and “One of 169”. Sporting a design inspired by the original model, the stainless-steel caseback has vertical and circular brushed patterns. The case houses the

renowned Calibre 11, a modern version of the automatic-winding chronograph movement that made its debut inside the original Monaco in 1969. This watch has been produced in an edition limited to 169 pieces.

Looking back on 50 years of the TAG Heuer Monaco and Calibre 11 When the Heuer Monaco (TAG was not part of the company name at the time) was introduced at simultaneous press conferences in New York and Geneva on 3 March 1969, journalists and watch aficionados around the world were amazed. With its never-before-seen water-resistant square case, the Monaco’s daring and iconic design made it instantly recognisable. The watch’s design was the perfect complement to the advanced technology being presented by the Swiss watchmaker at the time. Developed and commercialised by Heuer, the Calibre 11 was the world’s first automatic-winding chronograph movement.CEO at the time Jack Heuer believed that this groundbreaking innovation required a design that would demand attention. The Monaco did exactly that. What makes your collections unique in the industry?

The Rubeus Imperial Alexandrite Collection has been crafted by the renowned French jeweller and features one of the rarest and most mysterious gems known to mankind – the Alexandrite. It is indeed a rare gem with many mysterious qualities. It was discovered in 1834 in a mine of Ural Mountain Region by Nils Gustav Nordenskiöld – a renowned mineralogist of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. At first, he thought that he had found a variety of emerald, when the light of the wood fires that the miners lit to protect themselves from the cold, he saw that his discovery changed colours depending on the light: it was green in daylight and red in the light of the flames. More than that, depending on the angle in which it was observed, this gem would glow pink or orange, or even highlight a yellow line such as the one you see in cat’s eyes. This new

stone was dedicated to the young Grand Duke Alexander, heir to the throne of Russia, and was name Alexandrite – after the future tsar. In the 19th century, Alexandrite was honored and presented exclusively at Tiffany & Co by George Frederick Kunz, a famous American mineralogist who was its Vice President, and who, among other things, was one of the main inspirations for the carat unit for gemstones. We have been looking for these stones for many years and now we are delighted to have this opportunity to present it again to the world. Who is your inspiration above all these?

I found inspiration in my daughters’ smiles, as well as in the history, art and nature of Italy. My other passion is architecture – it gives me a lot of ideas. When I had my first master degree in Architecture, I felt so passionate about it.

A French Jeweler, Frederic Mane, created the Rubeus Imperial Alexandrite Collection. We have been involved every step during the whole process. My favorite piece is the Eternal Necklace, which was dedicated to the Russian tsarinas, its centerpiece resembles a stone flower, that features many tales and legends in the region of Ural, the place where the unique stone was found. Why the Middle East is so important to RUBEUS?

Since we launched our first collection in The Middle East, we were overwhelmed the level of interest to our brand in this part of the world. The journalists and bloggers started following us, admiring our collections. Most especially, our line of jeweled bags. We are grateful that we have established special relationships with many clients in the region. Every time we travelled in this part of the world, we met these incredible beautiful and sophisticated women, it is amazing.

Can you tell us about your latest Jewellery Collection that was launch during PARIS Haute Couture Week?

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to present a unique collection crafted with Alexandrite Gemstones, which are among the ten rarest, most expensive and most sought in the world. The collection that includes 47 Alexandrite Gemstones that are exceptional in size and quality, from 2.12 to 69.37 carats. As I mentioned before, the Alexandrite was discover in the Ural Mountains in Russia in 1830 and was name as a tribute to the future Tsar Alexander II. This exceptional gemstone is a variety of chrysoberyl. The unique feature is its bluish green color in daylight, which transforms through a wide range of colors and turns into a reddish purple or even violet in incandescent light. It›s magical. Its value is priceless, that includes the largest Alexandrite Gem unveiled to date: 69.37 carats. This stone beats the latest record held by a 66-carat Alexandrite gemstone exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington. So, yes, we are extremely excited about the collection and the warm welcome is received during Paris Haute Couture Week. The French Jewellery Post has included the Rubeus Imperial Alexandrite Collection as one of TOP 10 most important releases during Paris Fashion Week. 49

t›s not a walk. Much less a stroll. Inspired by Paris, by its architecture and culture, Boucheron›s new high jewelry collection explores viewpoints, perspectives and heights. Some pieces rise to breathtaking heights in a reflection of the vast capital, such as this set made in the image of the Grand Palais seen from above. Other pieces have their feet firmly on the ground, as they capture and sublimate a light, shape or adornment. The cobblestones of Place Vendôme, for example, are depicted in a pattern of precious stones, which is spectacular, but everyday at the same time, 50

A few months later, the new High Jewelry collection arrived as if to complete the building, like the last stone, highlighting both the history of the Maison and its desire to innovate.

astronomical display with a day/night indicator. To mark the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the LANGE 1, it is now being presented in an exclusive 25-watch limited edition in white gold with blued steel hands.


The LANGE 1 MOON PHASE “25th Anniversary” combines the moon phases with a day/night indicator. The moon stands out especially in the dark. By day, the sun usually outshines it, but even then, it accompanies us. The LANGE 1 MOON PHASE makes that visible. During the daytime, the moon is depicted against a bright blue starless sky; at night, it contrasts against the dark blue heavens with 383 sparkling stars. Thus, the moon always shows itself against a realistic background that doubles as a day/night indicator. This makes it easier to set the time because it assures that the date switches at midnight and not, inadvertently, at 12 noon. The combination of the moon-phase display with a day/ night indicator has two layers. It consists of a solid-gold celestial disc with blue gradation. The disc completes one full revolution about its own axis every 24 hours, mapping the rhythm of day and night. Against this background, the white-gold moon performs its synodic orbit in 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 3 seconds with such precision that it takes 122.6 years before a correction by one day is needed. An exciting interplay of silvery and blue hues unfolds on the asymmetrical, argenté-coloured dial. The thermally blued steel hands and the colour-matched inscriptions harmonise with the gradated blue tones of the celestial disc. The watch features a blue alligator leather strap with a solid white-gold prong buckle. Finished to the strictest Lange quality standards, the manually wound calibre L121.3 of the LANGE 1 MOON PHASE is based on the generic LANGE 1 calibre L121.1 launched in 2015. The 70 additional parts for the moon-phase display and the day/night indicator were integrated in the movement so compactly that the watch is only 0.4 millimetres thicker and has an unchanged diameter of 38.5 millimetres. It continues to stand out with the same technical features. They include a twin mainspring barrel with a power reserve of 72 hours, a powerreserve indicator with the UP/DOWN inscription and a precisely jumping outsize date display. The escapement, consisting of a campoised balance and a freely oscillating Lange balance spring, runs at a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour. Like all other models of the “25th Anniversary” collection, the LANGE 1 MOON PHASE is endowed with a special movement detail: The anniversary number 25 is integrated in the manually engraved, blue-filled balance cock. As regards typography and form, it corresponds to the Lange outsize date which is set to 25 in all photos. The same number also refers to the strict limitations of all anniversary models.

A paragon of robustness and elegance, the Oyster case of the Datejust 36 is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). Its middle case is crafted from a solid block of particularly corrosion-resistant Oystersteel. The case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The winding crown, fitted with the Twinlock double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case. The crystal is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire and is fitted with a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock for easy reading of the date. Perpetual Calibre 3235

The new versions of the Datejust 36 are equipped with calibre 3235, a newgeneration movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of technology, at the forefront of the art of watchmaking, this self-winding mechanical movement led to the filing of several patents and offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability. Calibre 3235 incorporates the Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic interference. The movement is fitted with an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy that makes it up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. The blue Parachrom hairspring is equipped with a Rolex overcoil, ensuring its regularity in any position. The oscillator is fitted on the Rolex-designed and -patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, increasing the movement’s shock resistance. Calibre 3235 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of calibre 3235 extends to approximately 70 hours. Jubilee and Oyster Bracelets

One of the new white Rolesor versions of the Datejust 36 is fitted with a Jubilee bracelet, the other with an Oyster bracelet. Supple and comfortable, the five-piece link Jubilee bracelet was specially created for the launch of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust in 1945. The Oyster bracelet, introduced in the late 1930s, is a particularly robust metal bracelet with three-piece links. Both bracelets are fitted with a folding Oysterclasp and include the Easylink comfort extension link, developed by Rolex, that allows the wearer to easily adjust the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm. A concealed attachment system ensures seamless visual continuity between the bracelet and case. Superlative Chronometer Certification

Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. After some days I always have a sort of evidence, meaning I know exactly where I want to go and I create the starting point of it, the first try. I love to start from a white page: freedom at its best! Which elements of terrible teddy inspired you?

When I knew the Terrible Teddy would be embodied by a rhinoceros, I immediately thought of leather. Plus his personality is very peculiar, he irradiates from this seductive charm, but with a certain moody roughness. To represent him in an olfactive way, I had to pick something raw, the leather then, but to make it very “civilized”. Teddy is from the traditional English society after all; he is someone who wants to catch the attention in a very subtle way, so it had to be as luminous and delicate as it is raw, sensual.
