You‘ve probably come across this term among our riding styles. We use this expression for snowboard and ski equipment that can be described as all-rounders. All-mountain products are suitable for the whole mountain –or rather – the whole resort.

They are ideal for beginners because they offer the possibility to explore different terrains.

My inspiration:

I really love spotting people wearing the clothes I bought. It is also amazing to see how trends keep coming back in new ways.

Favourite products:

My favourite products for this winter are the Volcom Guch Stretch Gore jacket, combined with the L Gore-Tex pant. It’s a great outfit with highly technical features.

What are the trends in your categories?

Bib pants are still the thing you need. However, everything is getting more baggy and oversized, so you will find some comfy styles in our stores this winter. If you are looking for more technical stuff, I recommend checking all the base layers and isolation items we offer to get the best out of your outfit.

My advice for you:

Go crazy, guys, wear baggies, different colours and funny prints. Life is too short to be boring. :)

Apart from fair conditions for everyone who works on their products, Picture rely on materials that are less harmful to our planet. 92 % of their cotton used is organic cotton that meets the OEKO-TEX 100 standard. 69 % of the polyester they use is recycled, using 2.5 times less CO2 and 6 times less oil than the production of virgin polyester. The BOA® system guarantees a bombproof fit and super-easy adjustment of your boot. This is ensured by the BOA® dial closures and laces. There are Single, Double and Triple BOA® systems, which allow you to adjust different zones of your boot separately, depending on the type.

How it works

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDINGS

All-mountain bindings have a medium flex to support you well in all terrains and provide maximum versatility. They are softer than freeride bindings, but stiffer than freestyle bindings.

However, please make sure that the flex also matches your board and boots. You will get the best performance when your equipment is perfectly tuned.

I tested the product already prepurchase from the BT Rent Your Ride shop. This way i found the perfect all mountain bindings for me. I really like the toe straps as they hug the tips of the boots and hold them tightly on place without me noticing. I have boots in size 10-10.5 and they fit the M sized Falcor perfectly. The fits is super nice and snug - less play, way more board feeling and control. The stiffness of the binding really stands out when going hard. The bindings do not let you down no matter where you snowboard. Although stiff you can still tweak grabs nicely, at least to some extent.

There are so many cool things coming this winter! Some new brands I bought are: ON3P, SURFACE SKIS, ICELANTIC SKIS, AUGMENT SKIS, core brands from the States and Austria. Very limited and very high quality.

What are the trends in your categories?

There is not really a trend in skis but freetouring evolved the most in recent years.

My advice for you:

Wax your skis, dry them properly, don‘t leave them in the car, extend their lifetime. Keep the mountains and the world around you clean. Climate change and skiing don‘t match and just like you, I want to have many more days skiing untouched mountains and shredding parks made of natural snow.

Crisis or no crisis, us winter sports enthusiasts have to play outside ...probably even more in difficult times!

And what could be more healing than a day in the snow with your friends? Besides fat smiles and high ollies, wide pants and retro colours should definitely not be missing in the park this winter.

The two of them can always be found in the park – as long as there is enough snow. There they test the latest products on kickers and rails and select the best for you. Boots for freestyle and jibbing

If you spend all your time in the park jumping kickers or riding rails you should look for a boot which compliments your style. With a softer boot, the flex will be more forgiving for

bigger impacts. A softer boot will also allow you to have more leverage over your board, to perform presses on rails, nose and tail butters and to tweak out grabs. Freestyle and jib snowboard

boots often feature shock absorbing materials in the heel, footbed or sole of the boot.

I ride mostly park and love to jib. That‘s why I prefer comfy and lightweight boots with a medium flex. The shock absorption of the sole works really well even on harder landings.

Bindings for freestyle and jibing

If you spend all your time in the park, you should look for a binding which compliments your style. Freestyle bindings are lighter and more flexible. The lightness helps you spin in the air

and flexibility allows you more leverage to perform grabs. The highback will also be shorter and the footbed more padded.

Ski Boots Sizing Advice

Most skiers have a horror story about ski boots they‘ve rented or bought –it doesn‘t have to be that way. Don‘t suffer any more in ski boots which aren‘t right for you. The most important thing about your ski boots is how they fit. Make sure to get the right size boot in both length and width.

You should start with your Mondo point size. This is the length of your foot in centimetres and the measure which all ski boots are made in. Forget about your US, EU or UK size. To get

an accurate measure of your foot in Mondopoint, stand with your heel against a hard surface and then mark where your big toe lies, from the surface to your toe is your measure ment in Mondopoint. You can also use a foot measuring device cal led a Brannock or ideally visit one of our shops to get your feet accurately measured.

Once you have found the right size, look for a boot which accurately mat ches the width of your feet. We have our range in three widths.

Narrow

Up to 99 mm, these boots give the best foothold for narrow feet. If you have narrow feet or want an aggres sive race-style performance fit, go for these boots.

Medium

At around 100 mm, medium boots fit the ‘average’ shape foot. A little wider and more generous, most people will fit a medium boot.

Wide

You’ll probably already know if you have wide feet. Wide ski boots are 102 mm upwards for really wide feet. They usually have an equally high area for the instep and wide calf.

The most important part of your setup is the outer layer. Your snowboard jacket and pants must ensure that snow, wind and moisture stay outside. Because one thing is certain: you don‘t want to get cold or wet on the mountain.

If you are now asking yourself: Do I need special clothing for freeriding? The answer is yes and no. There‘s nothing stopping you from enjoying powder with a regular snowboard jacket. All our jackets offer you good protection against the elements. In the backcountry, however, sometimes good is not enough, because there are different degrees of waterproofness depending on how exposed you are to nature‘s elements. Outerwear designed for freeriding is therefore particularly waterproof, breathable and also very robust.

We recommend that you buy the 3 layers, i.e. functional underwear, insulation layer and the outer shell, together. This way they fit together perfectly and offer you the best protection from the cold, snow and even sweat.

By the way: The water permeability of your jacket and pants is indicated by the water column. It describes how much water it takes to penetrate a fabric or membrane within 24 hours. The higher the value, the longer you

stay dry. Breathability is deter mined by measuring how much water vapour can be transported away within 24 hours. The higher the value, the better is your jacket “breathing”.

Snowboards are full of materials and technologies. Acting more sustainably here is not an easy mission. But some brands have been rising to the challenge for years and are developing ever better processes to make produc tion a little more eco-friendly and the boards more durable.

Already the choice of the company location has an impact on our environ ment. The production facilities of Mervin and Capita are strategically located in the USA and Austria. This means that the brands have the mountains right on their doorstep to test their snowboards and new technologies, they also reduce the distance to their suppliers.

Capita

Capita manufactures their snow boards with 100 % clean energy and by hand - in the middle of Austria. Their production facility, the “Mothership” in Carinthia, received the Energy Globe Award. The energy supply and opera tion of the Mothership are so sophisticated that it emits no CO2 emissions, does not attack the ozone layer and has no impact on global warming. 98 % of Capita‘s suppliers, are located just a 5 hour drive away, reducing their carbon footprint even further. The snowboards feature waterbased, solvent-free and non-toxic paints. Capita uses plant-based bio-resins and FSC-certified wood cores for all their models.

Mervin

Mervin produces boards for Roxy, Gnu and Lib Tech in the USA with 89.6 % electricity from hydropower and bio-diesel. No toxic waste is produced during manufacturing and the resulting sawdust is reused in agriculture. For their topsheets, they use plastics made from organic beans and their sidewalls are soy-based. Basalt fibres in their FSC-certified cores make sure the boards have a great “pop”

Burton

Burton has very high environ mental goals, which they com municate transparently and in an exemplary manner. They use a recycled, bio-based resin and FSC-certified wood for all their snowboards. They have joined the Responsible Packing Move ment and use at least 80 % postconsumer recycled materials in their packaging. These materials are also FSC certified. Step by step Burton is moving towards more sustainability, greener materials and cleaner energy .

Jones

Jones is looking at more sustainable production, less waste through better use of offcuts and recycled materials in the manufacture of their snow boards. In some of their boards they use basalt stringers instead of carbon to naturally increase the pop of the board. Varnishes used by Jones contain no solvents and they make their topsheets from castor beans. Finger jointed wood cores reduce waste and their base rotation reduces material waste with two die cut colours. Recycled steel edges, recycled ABS sidewalls and a biodegradable wax are used in all Jones models to further reduce the impact of manufac turing.

Splitboarding

Splitboarding is climbing a mountain to access the deepest, untracked snow. It‘s pretty similar to ski touring - just with a split snowboard. So if you want to discover new powder slopes without any tracks and people, then splitboarding is just the right thing for you.

So what makes a splitboard different to a regular snowboard?

A splitboard is a freeride snowboard which has been split vertically down the middle. The two halves act as skis and grippy skins attached to the base help you climb the mountain. At the top you remove the skins, reassemble the two halves and ride back down. Splitboarding is a physical activity –after all, you are climbing a mountain in your snowboarding gear. However, as you get better at ascending the mountain, it gets much more efficient. You can find more information about the technique in the Splitboarding How-To in our Blue World. Remember – Nearly all splitboarding takes place off the marked pistes. Make sure to get and learn how to use the avalanche essentials. Also, go first with a registered guide or an experienced backcountry rider. Safe to say, don‘t go splitboarding unless you are an advanced level or above rider.

Powder Surfing = snowboarding without bindings

This trend is taking it “back to the roots” of snowboarding – pow surfing is no new development after all. Snowboarding as we know it today is heavily influenced by the world of surfing. No wonder then that our snowboard pioneers wanted to translate that surf feeling on to the mountain with their first boards. Which explains the lack of bindings.

In recent times, there‘s been a profound increase in the amount of riders returning to the original art of snowboarding – without bindings!

A number of shapes and concepts have established themselves as the ultimate surf feeling on the hill.

But what‘s so special about pow surfing anyway? It manages to truly combine all three board sports –skating, surfing and snowboarding. The modern bindingless snowboard combines the knowledge that comes from countless years of experience riding on concrete, snow and water to build innovative boards the likes of which haven‘t been seen for years – or even ever before.

Powder surfers combine elements from all 3 primary board sports, Snowboarding, Surfing and Skateboarding and fuse them into something fresh, progressive, totally unique and above all fun.

Skateboarding in the snow

A snowskate is pretty easy to explain: it‘s a skateboard for the snow – and that‘s how it works. You don‘t need mountains or other equipment. But the sport is not simple at all: you need a lot of balance and skill to perform tricks on snowy streets with the snowskates.

Single or double?

There are two types of snowskates: single and bi-deck constructions. They differ, as the name suggests, in the number of decks. Single decks look almost like classic skateboard decks.

What are the arguments for a snowskate?

The binding-free design has a clear advantage: you don’t need specific snowboard boots and bindings. Just the snowskate, some snow and you‘re ready to go. You can also do it at any place where there is snow. So you are no longer dependent on mountains and gondolas.

With bi-deck snowskates, you stand on a top deck that is connected to a bottom deck which glides on the snow. Basically a double-decker. :) The topsheet is very grippy so that you don‘t slip with wet shoes.

For this season, I have bought L1 and Oyuki as new brands in the glove sector. Both brands are very on trend and cover every age group very well. The Oyuki gloves are perfect for powder days and keep you very warm, plus they are all Gore-Tex. I would recommend L1 for those who spend more time in the park.

It’s the layers that count …

1st Layer: Base Layer

The moisture-wicking layer

Base layers are worn either directly on the skin or over underwear. Base layers are insulating and wick sweat away from the body. Since sweat cools you down quickly, it is important that it is transported away as fast as possible. This requires functional materials such as merino wool or special synthetic fibres. Merino wool is a natural and soft fibre that regulates temperatures perfectly. It controls temperature by absorbing and releasing moisture.

Merino wool has antibacterial properties that reduce unpleasant odours and it is exceptionally breathable. Synthetic materials such as polyester and nylon are also used for base layers. They are robust, quick-drying and elastic. Another advantage is that they are easy to wash in the washing machine.

2nd Layer: Mid Layer

The insulating layer

A mid layer is a warming layer that is worn between base layer and jacket. For example, a cosy fleece jacket or a comfortable shred hoodie that keeps you warm even in cold temperatures. If you want maximum warmth on the mountain, an insulator jacket is the perfect choice. Here we differentiate between down and synthetic fillings.

3rd Layer: Outer Layer Protection against the elements

Warm hands at all times

There is hardly an accessory that is more important for skiing and snow boarding than gloves. Because cold fingers will ruin even the finest day in the snow. Whether it‘s lined and

waterproof mittens in the deepest winter, or thin and breathable gloves for spring shredding – we have something for every weather.

Gloves or mittens?

Both types are available for all weather conditions. The ”weakeness“ of one model is at the same time the strength of the other. Mittens have a higher insulation performance and fewer seams that can be prone to moisture penetration. So they are warmer and more waterproof.

Finger gloves, on the other hand, score with high freedom of movement and a secure grip.

Some brands also offer a mix of finger gloves and mittens. These models have the thumb and index finger sewn on separately, while the remaining three fingers share a chamber. This combines the advantages of both styles.

Which gloves for which weather?

We cannot give you a definitive advice on what is the best choice for you because everyone‘s perception of temperature is different. If your hands do sweat a lot, we recommend breathable and thinner gloves. If you tend to have cold fingers, thicker gloves are probably a better choice. There are also many models with separate liner gloves. These are very practical because you can easily adjust the warmth.

Unfortunately, I always have cold fingers on the mountain. That‘s why I usually wear thick mittens and thin, tight-fitting finger gloves underneath when snowboarding. When dexterity is required, I can quickly take off the mittens without my hands getting too cold. That‘s super handy when I want to quickly check my phone or blow my nose. When I‘m splitboarding, I just wear my finger gloves on the ascent and put the mittens on for the descent.

Why are functional socks so important?

For long-lasting comfort and maximum performance, you need socks that are specifically designed for winter sports. They are made from materials like merino wool, synthetic fibres or a combination of both. They have special padding in high-wear areas and an

ergonomic fit for best comfort. They are also breathable and transport sweat away from your skin. Functional socks are available in different thicknesses. There are very thin, but also very thick and thus very warm socks.

Of course, it is important that the socks fit your boots. Ideally, they should enclose your feet tightly and then form a unit with your boots. In addition to the fit, it is also important to put them on correctly. If there are creases, you can get blisters or pressure points.

In snowboarding and freeskiing, limits are constantly being pushed: faster, higher, further and even more spins. Not only does the wow factor increase, but also the risk of injury. That‘s why we really recommend that everyone wears the right protective gear. Which lens for the conditions?

The lens is the most important part of the goggle. The right lens is tailored to increase contrast in the right conditions. However, not every lens is for every situation. At Blue Tomato we distinguish between goggles for the amount of visible light (VLT) they allow through and their designated conditions. Take note of the weather you most frequently snowboard in and pick a lens accordingly.

A more general bright light lens. This lens is best suited to sunny days but will still work well if a few clouds appear.

The most common versatile lens. Engineered to work both in sunshine and clouds.

Very

brightest sun, often found when you’re riding on glaciers or long sunny days at the end of the season. These lenses are usually very dark or heavily mirrored.

This lens allows more light through in bad light conditions. When its snowing or the light is flat the increased light and contrast boosting tint will help you see. These goggles are often less heavily or non-mirrored.

The construction of snowboard helmets

Differences in helmet construction have an impact on weight, comfort and range of use.

ABS hardshell constructions are extremely robust and compact, while the lightweight in-mould construction

prioritises low weight and wearing comfort. In between lies the hybrid construction, which combines the advantages of an ABS hardshell with the low weight of the in-mould construction. Depending on the area of use, you can choose the helmet construction that suits you best.

Fit systems

Of course, it‘s not just the outer shell that counts, but also the inner values. The internal pads and cushions ensure the best fit and thus additional protection. Different sizes make it possible to adjust the helmet to the respective head shape and size. Highend products also offer antibacterial lining, which inhibits the growth

of bacterial colonies and thus also prevents unpleasant odours. For some time now, manufacturers have offered the option of wearing the helmet with a beanie underneath. This option is stylish and of course also safe if the helmet and beanie form a nonslipping unit.

What if my Goggles fog up?

If your goggles do fog up, don’t panic! Take a break in a mountain café, then bash off all the snow from the frame and take the lens out. Please never wipe the inner lens. This will damage the anti-fog coating. Get some air between the lenses and dry out the frame as best as you can. Once the fog has cleared, put the lens back in the frame and you should be good to go.

Our tipps for a fog-free life:

1 Choose the right size for your face – there shouldn‘t be any gaps between frame and face.

2 Pair your goggles with a well-ventilated helmet that fits with them.

3 Keep the goggle vents free from snow and material (beanie, cap or hood).

4 Never put your goggles on the helmet. Water will get in and then they will fog up.

5 Don‘t wipe the inner lens. It damages the anti-fog coating.

This year‘s collection of winter shoes features robust soles, weatherproof uppers and warm linings. To make sure you get the most out of your shoes for a long time, we‘ll give you some care tips along the way.

Tip 1: Waterproofing

I recommend impregnating your winter shoes well. That way your socks stay dry and the uppers are protected and last longer. I particularly recommend the protective spray from DFNS. It is water based, solvent-free and biodegradable.

Tip 2: Dry slowly

A popular mistake that many people make due to lack of time is to put wet shoes on the heater or to blow-dry them. The hot air can cause the material to crack or even discolour. Instead, stuff some kitchen roll in them and wait - unfortu nately, it takes time. That‘s why it makes sense to have several pairs of winter shoes that you wear and dry alternately. .

Tip 3: Store them properly

Store your shoes in a dry and clean place. Don‘t put them in plastic bags or squeeze them into overstuffed shoe racks. This can cause them to mould and deform. The matching shoe boxes are a very practical storage option. You can also label them to keep track of your shoes. By the way, shoe trees are an insider tip for keeping shoes in shape for a long time.

When parents go snowboarding or skiing, it’s obvious that their offspring will want to start at some point. It is important not to push the little ones and to give them time. With a lot of fun and patience, you can see the first successes after just a few hours. Kids make great progress very quickly, especially with the right snacks as a reward. If there is the possibility, we definitely recommend that kids go out with their friends. Because children learn the most from each other. And it’s not just about technology, but also about cohesion and social aspects. Our colleagues already have a few young shredders and therefore know which equipment is best suited for them. Before the season Hedi (11), Wally (10), Ferry (8) and Stani (4) hiked up the local resorts to pick up waste. A mountain clean-up with the whole family is a great outdoor activity for a good cause. And if you are lucky, you can spot marmots or a chamois.

This way the kids learn a lot about nature, about the importance of avoiding waste and how recycling helps to protect the environment.

One thing that is important to them: ”ride local” – the biggest carbon emissions come from traveling to the resorts. So you don’t necessarily need to chase the powder to remote locations, some of your best days will happen at your homespot anyway!

no matter if socially, ecologically, when it comes to education or snowboarding … changing little things step by step can make a difference!

Taking kids on splitboards is a great way to raise awareness. From acting responsibly in a group of people, to learning about snow conditions, weather and potential risks in the mountains.

It’s never too early to hear about safety in snowboarding, and riding with helmets and back protectors is something you get used to really fast, just like using sunscreen because of the UV light on snow. Of course, choosing save terrain when riding powder is mandatory. Avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes are always part of their equipment on every freeride session to stay cautious and get used to always having the important gear ready.

It’s getting easier each season to find sustainable products for kids. Many boards are “made in Austria” and factories working with clean energy (like solar or water power) are getting common.

There is more and more variety in kids’ clot hing using organic cotton and outerwear made from recycled materials. And there are a lot of items from boots over bindings to outerwear that have grow systems, so you can use them for more than one season.

There’s one more thing that makes a difference: passing on knowledge. Last winter the kids were coaching for two days at the local school to get pupils started in snowboarding!

When buying snowboard boots, it is important that they are comfortable and fit well. Measure the feet (wearing snowboard socks) in centimetres and write it down. Compare the value with the Mondopoint values in the size

charts for the respective products. If in doubt, rather round up than down. But do not buy boots that are too big –they will not give your child enough support and will cause blisters.

Splitboarding / touring:

The tourism industry is focusing on ever larger ski areas, additional offers and more intensive snowmaking. If you want a unique mountain expe rience, you can explore new terrain with splitboards, and there are now more and more options for kids! Alternatively, you could try snowshoes or other climbing aids!

Clean-up days:

Brands, resorts and even schools head to the mountains in summer to pick up trash.

NGOs / initiatives:

Most snowboarders already know about Protect Our Winters, but other initiatives like 1 % For The Planet or Plant-For-The-Planet also work for climate protection. Projects like Riders For Refugees collect used snowwear for social purposes.

Lifespan

Grow systems:

More and more jackets and pants have seams that you can undo and thus enlarge the items by one size. Kids‘ boots often come with an additional insole that can be removed without compromising comfort and cushioning. Bindings usually fit over many shoe sizes if you adjust the highbacks and straps accordingly.

Repairs / warranty:

In addition to the legal warranty, some brands offer lifetime repair services for certain parts (zips, seams, etc.).

Spare parts:

It is often sufficient to replace broken individual parts, especially for bindings. But also liners, helmet pads etc. are available from various manufacturers. Our team will be happy to help with any questions.

It is important that the snowboard fits your child’s ability and stature. To choose the right snowboard length, you can use their height and weight as a guide. We recommend that the board reaches between the chest and the chin.

In general, the shorter the board, the better it is for learning. If your child is already a good snowboarder, you can choose a longer board.

Kids bindings

Snowboard bindings are important be cause they are the connection between rider and board. Bindings also come in different sizes. Check the size chart before you order and make sure the boots fit snugly with the bindings. Ease of use is the top priority so that kids can open the bindings themselves, even with mittens. If that’s too difficult, the fun will fade and cause frustration on lift rides.

A snowboard helmet should fit snugly, without any hollow spaces between the foam padding and the head. We recommend size-adjustable helmets for the best fit – they will sit securely on growing heads for several seasons.

Goggle size

Snowboard goggles must fit both the small face and the helmet to prevent fogging and protect the eyes from the

cold wind. That’s why it’s best to always try on helmet and goggles together when buying. The kids can then jump and run to see if everything really fits well.

Back protector size

Back protectors also differ in cut and size from model to model and from brand to brand. There is only one thing that helps when buying online: check the size charts, measure the child and then try it on carefully. Don’t forget that the jacket and pants still have to fit comfortably.

You have the right to cancel this contract within twenty-one days without stating any reasons.

CONSEQUENCES OF CANCELLATION

If you cancel this contract, we have to return to you any payments which we have received from you, including delivery costs (with the exception of any supplementary costs arising from your choice of any means of delivery other than our standard most inexpensive delivery option), without delay and at the latest within fourteen days from the day on which notice of your cancellation of this contract was received by us.
