WINTER BOOK
Choose your playground!
Before you dive into our new Winter Book, we want to share a few lines with you.
For us, this edition is a special milestone because we are celebrating the 21st birthday of the Winter Book.
Since 2012, it has been created every year with lots of snow, sweat, and above all, love. For that, we can pat ourselves on the back, right?
But we don‘t print this book for ourselves - we make it for you!

ELASTIC CUFF SNOW PANTS
Folks, this is it!
Ultimate streetwear comfort (à la sweatpants) and technical snowwear have joined forces in the Elastic Cuff Snow Pant. These are snowboard pants with elastic cuffs that radiate absolute retro vibes. With these pants, everything was done right: just slip in, start shredding and collect style points.
By the way, this applies to both men and women – these pants are usually cut in a gender-neutral way. So not only do the brands on this page get a big thumbs up in terms of style – but also for inclusion and diversity. Cheers!
LAYERING
It's lIke cozy!
Layer 1:
The base layer – moisture-wicking and heat-insulating
The base layer is worn either directly on the skin or over your underwear. It is heat-insulating and breathable. As moisture can cool down your body quickly, it‘s important to wick it away as fast as possible. For this, you need functional materials like merino wool or synthetic fibres. Merino wool is a natural, smooth, finer fibre which is brilliant at regulating temperatures. It offers the best temperature control by absorbing moisture and releasing it to the outside. Its antibacterial properties reduce unpleasant odours. Synthetic materials like polyester and nylon are also used for base layers. They are durable, quick-drying and elastic.
Layer 3:
The outer layer – protection against wind and moisture
Jackets, pants and overalls make up the outermost layer of your snowwear. They face the changeable and often harsh moods of Mother Nature. Extreme weather conditions in the mountains make robust ski and snowboard clothing indispensable. You can choose between lined, soft shell and thin shell jackets. Lots of models offer you a highly functional membrane which keeps your outer layer breathable. In addition, snow clothing is often coated to prevent moisture from getting in.
Layer 2:
The mid-layer – the insulating layer
The mid-layer is a warming layer between the base layer and the jacket. A cosy fleece makes the perfect midlayer. For maximum warmth on the mountain, use a padded insulator jacket as a second layer. It can be easily stored away if necessary as it is packable and lightweight. These insulators are either made of down or synthetic padding.
GLOVES
Trends for hands
Gloves used to be low-key accessories in a simple black uniform look. Over the last few years, however, they have developed into true fashion statements. Warm mittens especially have officially replaced full-fingered gloves as a snow essential. This year two opposing trends are making the headlines: highperformance leather gloves and crazy mittens in striking colours.
High-quality and robust
Many snowwear designers have placed great emphasis on high quality when selecting their materials. They combine leather, Gore-Tex and functional fabrics to create timeless designs that last for many seasons.
Hot shit for cold paws
Fresh colours, fun animal prints and wild materials are used by talented glove designers to create eye-catching styles. The motto is simple: the more individual, the better. Pick your style and ride on!
SNOWBOARDING
Blue Tomato was born out of the love for snowboarding. This passion is also reflected in our product range.
We are so excited about the upcoming season and don‘t want to keep the latest hardgoods from you any longer. So flip the page and slide into the good stuff.

Choose your shape
Twin Tip: symmetrical freestyle shape
Nose and tail have the same dimensions and also the flex is symmetrical. The board rides equally well both forward and backwards. Perfect for kickers and rails.
Directional Twin: the perfect all-mountain snowboard
The shape is symmetrical but flex and profile are mostly designed for forward. A setback of the inserts is also possible. Directional twins work in almost any terrain.
Directional: freeriding and carving
The shape is meant for riding in one direction. The binding position is set back to create a longer nose for more buoyancy in deep snow and more power for carving. Most all-mountain / freeride boards are directional.
Directional Tapered: maximum float in powder
Tapered means the nose is wider than the tail. This gives you excellent float and gliding performance for freeriding, without your feet getting tired too quickly. Designed for powder riding, it also works fine for carving.
Choose your profile
Camber: power and grip
Camber describes a convex preload between tip and tail. When you stand on the board, you create even pressure over the entire length. This provides maximum edge grip, aggressiveness and pop.
Hybrid Camber: The freestyle blend
A hybrid camber usually has a camber between the bindings. Outside it leads into a rocker towards nose and tail. You get the grip and power of the camber for high speed and powerful jumps. The rocker will forgive small mistakes.
Zero: stable and balanced
A Zero board lies flat on the ground. It combines the advantages of rocker and camber: You get more grip than a rocker, but also more manoeuvrability than a camber. Freestylers and jibbers trust it as well as beginners.
Rocker: float and agility
Rocker has a concave bend from tip to tail. The contact point with the snow is between the bindings, tip and tail lift up. With the central pivot point, rockers are playful, easy to turn and have better float. Great for beginners, for jibbing and in powder.
Hybrid Rocker: combination of stability and flexibility
A hybrid rocker usually has a rocker between the bindings and camber right underneath your feet. The rocker makes the board turn easier, the camber offers grip and pop. A hybrid rocker is suitable for all conditions.
Asymmetric: riding experience
The power transmission through your heels is different than through your toes. This is compensated by different sidecuts on the two edges for a more natural feel. Interesting for every riding style.
Powder Rocker: ultimate buoyancy and control in powder
A camber in the rear binding area provides control, while an extended rocker from the centre to the nose creates massive buoyancy and smooth gliding. Simply the perfect profile in deep snow.
3D: float and playfulness
On 3D snowboards also the lateral edges in the tip and tail areas are uplifted so they form a kind of spoon. This makes the board extremely easy to turn, forgiving and provides a massive buoyancy in deep snow.

AFTER SHRED SHOES
After Shred Shoes - The comfy allrounders
We‘ve all experienced it: that feeling when we free our feet from the constraints of those tight boots. Amazing! It‘s even better when we can put our feet directly into comfortable and warm shoes. And to make that feeling even better than ever, brands like THE NORTH FACE, Vans and LINE have come up with After Shred Shoes.
After a long day on the mountain, they are the ideal alternative to sneakers. You can choose between slippers and high-top models. They both have one thing in common: They‘ve got a warm lining and they‘re super soft. Thanks to the grippy outsole you can wear them everywhere from the couch to the campsite. We love this versatility. “Get a pair and treat yourself!“

PROTECTION
We‘ve heard of ”safety first“ plenty of times. But when it comes to snowboarding and freeskiing, things always get pushed to the limits and beyond: faster, further and more spins. As the wow factor grows, so does the risk of injury.
Protective equipment like helmets, back protectors and crash pants have saved plenty of riders over the years. That‘s why it‘s so important to us to focus on safety.
Stay safe and ride on.

Buyer‘s Guide
The best protection throughout the season
Snowboard helmets are inspired by the style of the skateboarding scene. They offer robust protection, cosy warmth and plenty of features. Self-regulating ventilation, audio-compatible ear pads and different fit settings are all used here.
TECH HELMETS
Different constructions
The construction has an influence on the weight, the wearing comfort and where the helmet can be used. ABS hardshell constructions are extremely robust and compact, whereas the in-mould construction is lightweight with excellent wearing comfort. In between there‘s the hybrid construction which combines the advantages of an ABS hardshell with the low weight of the in-mould construction. You choose the helmet construction that suits your riding style.
Even more protection thanks to MIPS®
MIPS® is a safety system for helmets. It‘s developed to reduce rotational motion to the brain in the event of a crash. These rotational impacts involve a greater risk of brain damage than straight hits. MIPS® works with a low friction layer inside the helmet which allows the outer shell to move slightly. This technology actually mimics how our body protects our brain. Brilliant!
Learn more about helmets in our Buyer‘s Guide.
Here you can find a selection of helmets that are sure to bring you through the next season safely.

Footwear is not just a matter of style – quality and comfort also play a vital part. Especially in winter, we should pay attention to warm linings and grippy soles. This way, our feet can carry us safely through the cold season. SHOE LOVE IS TRUE LOVE

WINTER SHOES
Your toes will thank you
The times where winter shoes don‘t suit streetwear outfits are long gone. You can count on our streetwear and skate brands when it comes to stylish AND functional footwear. Vans and DC in particular design models suitable for snow that look strikingly similar to your sneakers.
These ”Winter Editions“ have thick, water-repellent soles and a warm lining while keeping up the classic sneaker style.
For wild adventures with mother nature, we recommend high cut winter shoes. They offer the ideal p rotection against cold and wet conditions.

YOUTH
Kids on board!
There‘s nothing better for parents than being able to share a passion with their children. Plenty of our employees have been able to experience this fantastic feeling. So we speak from our hearts: Shred time is family time And with the right gear, this time together in the snow can be even better. Why? Because we can rely on staying warm and dry all day long. Also riding the right boards and skis is a lot more fun, too. And that applies to all ages – from the shred kid to the slope superstar. You can find a small selection for your offspring in the next few pages.

TODDLERS SNOWWEAR
→ More information
Toddlers in the snow: Only the best for our little ones
Are your kids ready to spend their first days in the snow? Then we have got just the right products for you. Burton has always had our little ones in mind and produced outerwear in mini sizes. In the meantime, more brands have joined in the action and created cool snowwear for toddlers. Warm, baggy jackets and practical onesies with extra-long zippers (”diaper access“) are right at the top of the list of must-haves.
Noteworthy features for durability
include reinforcements on the knees and buttocks, high-quality manufactory and ”growing“ sleeves and pant legs. This keeps our little ones warm over several winters and doesn‘t stretch your wallet. Most styles are gender-neutral too, which makes it easier to pass them on to siblings and friends. Our buyers are also trend-aware parents and have tested the collections for their style and snow suitability.
late november swells and a smooth transition into snow: Hedi (12) enjoys empty line-ups just like quiet powder days.
Hedi (12) kathi (47) lilo (48) ferry (9) Wally (11) stani (5)going with the flow and enjoying march powder days: wally (10), Ferry (9) and mum benefit from having their legs after lots of riding days!
seasonal
have you ever thought about flow, rhythm and cycles? over the last years THE Snowboarding Family was riding at their pace in sync with seasons. And made them rethink traveling habits!
It’s only a big coincidence that Hedi (12), Wally (11), Ferry (9) and Stani (5) have names with their beginning letters being the same and in order of the seasons:
"Herbst", "Winter", "Frühling" and "Sommer"
So let’s take a quick look at the calendar, as everyone is waiting for winter to drop! Tourism makes people travel as early as possible but creates a shifted view on reality.
Winter actually begins on December 21st and ends March 21st! Considering this you will see that most years the snow base is pretty solid until April (which is known for rapidly changing
weather and has to do with how Africa and Europe heat up at different pace).
Just as with food it makes sense to think seasonal! Winter vegetables are nice and so is riding pow instead of artificial snow.
If you have the possibility to ride a spot in the real season, it makes sense to do this. We recommend getting everything sorted out in time though, especially looking for your gear. Nothing is more annoying than having the snowfall of a lifetime but your favourite powderboard is already sold out. And you definitely want to keep your flow ;)

april is turning a riding day into a fairy tale for wally (10): Rainbow sessions are rare!
ferry (9) learns about state of aggregation as water turns nature into a playground.
after about 5 months on snow dad switches to skateboarding, the tricks stay similar: stelmasky plant.
is hedi (12) surfing like a snowboarder or snowboarding like a surfer?
SNOWBOARDING WITH KIDS
The times when there was barely any suitable snowboard equipment for kids are long gone. Most brands agree: Kids are the future of snowboarding! We support them wholeheartedly and have increased our range. It is broader and more advanced than ever before. We offer special freeride and freestyle shapes and even children‘s splitboard sets.
Kids need more than a snowboard set for a perfect day on the mountain. To make sure you think of everything, we have put together a checklist for you. In addition, you will find a few tips to make sure your start to snowboarding together is a complete success.
Kids snowboard day checklist
o water-repellant snowboard jacket, snowboard pants and gloves
o warm fleece pullover or isolation jacket
O beanie and neck warmer (a storm mask on really cold days)
O breathable base layer
o snowboard socks
O protective snowboard helmet
o well-fitting snowboard goggles
O flexible back protector
O snacks, snacks, snacks!
o insulated bottle with tea or water
O tissues, lip balm, sunscreen, waterproof cream
o fun, patience and understanding ... and obviously a snowboard set (board, bindings, boots)
On the mountain, set, go!
To get even the youngest comfortable with the board we recommend learning with the “Burton Riglet Reel“. This is a special leash that you attach to the snowboard to pull your child on the flat. With older kids you can practice on a small hill that runs flat. Ideally, one person should go up with the child and the second “catches“ them at the end. That way, kids learn to ride sideways. And once that works well, you can start with sliding and braking on the edges. The best thing to do is to practice both directions alternately – both toeside and heelside. That is the basis for safe braking and the first turns. You should only try the first turns once your child can brake itself.
After that, all you need to do is: keep at it!
Plenty of fun and no tears
Good weather and suitable equipment make learning much easier. Of course, your child has to be in the right mood too! Plan enough breaks. As soon as your child is tired, cold, hungry or even scared, find a lodge or call an end to your day on the mountain. That makes sure snowboarding remains a fantastic experience. Shred time is family time.
BLUE TOMATO
Kids Snow Events
It is important to us to share our fascination and passion for winter sports and to pass it on to children. Together with our professional partners we therefore developed a variety of programs for the younger generation. From beginner courses to snowboard festivals and camps to competitions, there is something of everything that offers the ideal introduction to the world of snowboarding & freeskiing. Since the responsibility towards the mountains and the environment is becoming more and more important, the kids not only learn new tricks with our partners, but also how to deal responsibly with our nature and the mountains. We are looking forward to many snowy days on the mountain.
