Foundation degrees are more vocationally-focussed Higher Education qualifications, developed in close conjunction with employers and usually involving some aspects of practical workbased learning. Students often progress to the final year (Level Six) of a bachelor’s degree upon completion. This is often called a ‘top up’ year. Bachelor’s degrees are three-year programmes or one year if studied as a ‘top up’ after a suitable Level Five qualification has been achieved. LEVEL

This includes developing CVs and interview techniques, along with other personal development skills. We also have outstanding industry links in all subject areas. Since graduating from the BSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Training course in 2008, Michael has travelled extensively working as a professional animal trainer in a variety of zoos and marine parks around the world.

Jordan had always loved playing sport, so when the opportunity came to study at Bishop Burton and be part of the College’s Rugby League Academy programme, he jumped at the chance.

Jordan Abdull

Professional rugby player

Combining academic studies with an elite training programme, the programme offered Jordan the chance to pursue his professional sporting dream whilst studying a vocational course, should his sports career not take off.

While studying garden design at Bishop Burton, Pippa was given the chance to enter a garden into the Harrogate Flower Show – the premier horticultural show in the north. Working alongside construction students from the College, Pippa teamed up with a local charity to develop the garden.

Pippa Snowden

Award-winning garden designer

The garden, designed for those living with dementia, aimed to create a safe environment for its users by reminding them of familiar smells using scented flowers and by incorporating pathways that brought them back to the start.

have been next to impossible in such a competitive field. His latest adventure has taken him as far as the Middle East, where he has had the opportunity to implement and co-manage a new animal encounter programme. Working with a team of professionals, he has successfully introduced a colony of King and Gentoo penguins into the U.A.E, helping to improve animal awareness across the region.

Jordan worked hard both on and off the pitch, taking full advantage of the access he had to state-of-the-art facilities and respected coaches, trainers and lecturers, and his dream became reality when he signed a professional contract with Super League team, Hull FC. A lifelong dream realised through hard work, ambition and determination.

The garden impressed the judges so much that it secured one of just three gold awards at the show. Praised for its consideration of its end users, and the quality of the building work, the garden became the highlight of the show, and following its win, it was donated to the charity that helped Pippa come up with the award-winning design. And for Pippa, the success secured a future with Hobson and Porter – a local building firm which now has its own landscape designer.

Tuition and Accommodation Fees

Tuition fees are £9,000 a year for full-time Higher Education students and accommodation fees are £4,920 a year, which includes £1,000 a year for food and is equivalent to a half-board basis.

For part-time Higher Education students, tuition fees are calculated on a pro rata basis and typically range from £3,750 to £6,000.

HE Student Childcare Grant

Campus Fee

If you have dependent children in registered or accredited childcare you could be entitled to this grant funding. It cannot be claimed if you are already receiving the childcare element of the Working Tax Credit from the Inland Revenue.
