PROJECT 1
TRIPTYCHS
Home is defined by the elements that are produced within a house or a dwelling area that generate domestic affection. As an introduction to the concept of triptychs, students were tasked with defining what makes their living space or housing area a home. Within my dwelling area, what made my house a home was the overall feeling one gained due to its surrounding environment.
List of spaces that defined my living area were specified within the project.

PROJECT 1
TRIPTYCHS
The next step of the project was producing three different triptyches that defined and changed the spatial organization of one’s housing or dwelling area. Spatial operations such as: stack, push, pull, reveal, detach, bloat, explode, and attach were incorporated within the design process of the triptychs ‘
TRIPTYCH 1
Finally, the triptychs were turned into conceptual dwelling areas that a group of people could ideally inhabit.

ARCHITECTURE Typology is defined as classication based on specific types or categories. Project 2 explores the conceptual analysis of typology and how it translates into design. In order to implement the aspect of design within the project, case studies were conducted. This allowed students to further understand typology, method of organization, and zoning.

Through design process, three different apartment dwelling units were created; single bedroom, two-bedroom, and a three-bedroom units
Specific elements that were taken into consideration during the design process were the building’s window orientation. Each unit possesses either single or double window orientation.

CONCEPT 1
Three unit aggregations were made as part of the design process. Each concept possesses a different approach to the overall design process and the low rise apartment configuration.
Revisting the design process, a final concept was made that demonstrated spatial organization and strategies applied to specific units.

PROJECT 4 URBAN APARTMENT
Housing Studio III - Fall 2017 - Jamil Nelson
45
As an introduction to the urban apartment project, students were assigned with visiting the site The site is located in the Johns Hopkins area near the city with close proximity to newly developed residential housing. During the site visit, students were instructed to sketch the overall appearance of the site, diagram important elements of the site and its surroundings, and what can be improved when implementing design choices individually. A major part of the site visit was conducting a site analysis and awareness of the importance of the site in relation to its context.

URBAN APARTMENT
Upon conducting a site analysis for project four, identifying important aspects of the site were done. This included identifying primary/ secondary views on the site, street networks, transportation methods, sunlight exposure, and outdoor spaces. After conducting the site analysis, students began the design process and developing concepts that articulated spatial strategies in relation to the context of the site.

URBAN APARTMENT
Three housing units were designed that made up the general composition of the urban apartment. Each unit contains spaces (bedroom & living room) suitable for living, utilities including: washing machine, laundry unit, bathroom, kitchen, and stove, along with closets for public and private use. Each unit contains an outdoor balcony area (space varied by unit type) for one to experience the natural environment from their dwelling units. Progressing further into the design of the urban apartment, the structural compositon and organization of the complex was created. Diagrams were created to identify the main attributes of the urban apartment.
