ELAN 380 ANNOUNCED Elan have just announced the completely new Elan 380, which is planned to be a high performance cruiser designed to please both performanceoriented sailors and offer comfortable cruising in style for family or friends at the same time. From the sketches released to the press by Elan, the 380 will be immediately recognisable as part of the performance line of Elans. She should share features and characteristics with the other yachts in this award-winning range which is targeting cruisers who want that little bit of extra performance from their yacht. Her elegant and refined lines with clean decks should result in greater freedom and safe movement on board. The side view of the new Elan 380 with its exceptional waterline length and designer hull and deck port lights contribute to her aesthetic and harmonious strength. The open transom with ef-

All lines, including the German mainsheet system will be led under the deck to the cockpit and to selftailing winches which Elan are describing as “powerful”, and the large diameter wheel places the helmsman in the optimum position for sailing efficiency, visibility and control. Elan sailing yachts come with a prestigious pedigree that is a promise of excellence and a commitment to quality throughout. Along the years we have seen the Slovenian shipyard win one award after an other, and at time of going to press, they had two boats nominated for this year’s European Yacht of the Year award. Below deck Elan will be offering layouts in 3 cabin, 2 cabin with 1 head or 2 cabin 2 heads, with the latter providing

enough space for privacy and relaxation. The fully equipped L-shaped galley should satisfy the toughest chef‘s demands. The spacious and airy saloon seems to offer comfort for the crew and plenty of storage, while the forward facing chart table serves the needs of both navigation and communication. World renowned yacht designer Rob Humphreys’ masterful configuration of the keel, rudder, rig and hull design produces a well-balanced yacht with optimum weight distribution along with a remarkably high level of stability and excellent response. The hull and main stringers will be moulded in a one-shot process using highly advanced technology based on environmentally friendly vacuum assisted lamination called 3D VAIL. This technique improves the strength and mechanical properties of the hull laminate by as much as 50%. The

hull’s powerful inner structure ensures that all loads from the keel and rig are distributed effectively with minimum hull flexing. Elan are claiming that the result of the extensive hydrodynamic research and attention to detail will give the

helmsman and crew a confident feeling of safety, control and comfort during navigation in every kind of sea and wind conditions, and from what we’ve seen in current Elans, we have every reason to agree. The launch is scheduled for Internautica Boat Show.
