Best Ever Results >> Students and staff celebrated the best ever A Level examination results in Summer 2011. The results showed an overall pass rate of 96% across all A Level subjects with 19 A Level subjects achieving a pass rate of 100%. Over 1,800 students studied AS and A Levels and the excellent results achieved reflected the hard work of both students and staff. Studying at college is not all work and no play. We believe in having a healthy balance between your studies and the social life a college brings. Our students love the College atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff and fellow students, and the fact that there’s so much you can do in your free time. All campuses have a real feeling of community and a reputation as friendly places.

Careers and Student Advice The Student Services team provide an array of high quality services for you to use during your time with us. Specialist staff are available to give

careers advice and guidance and to provide you with information about financial support. If you are unsure which course is best for you, then you should discuss your options with one of the careers advisers, who will provide impartial advice and guidance to help you to choose the course that is right for you. We provide a wide range of careers information, where you have access to higher education resources to help you make well-informed and realistic decisions about future career plans.

Tutorial System During your time at college you will be allocated a Personal Tutor who will support your academic and personal development, and respond to your

different needs for help, advice and information. The College has developed a pastoral care system designed to offer you the correct level and type of support you may need. This is achieved by maintaining close links with students so that any problems, whether academic, personal or social are quickly identified and appropriate solutions offered.

The mentor scheme operates on a one-to-one basis and is designed to remove any possible barriers you might have that are stopping you from reaching your maximum potential, whether the reasons arise from within College or outside. The mentors offer support with, for example, study skills, motivation and time management, and they are committed to helping you overcome any issues you might encounter on the path to successful completion of your course.

Your Personal Tutor will also liaise with your parents so that they are kept fully informed of your progress.

The College offers the qualification to students whose APS Score is 5.6 or above as an additional qualification to enhance their A Level Studies. It is research-based and it is more usual for students to take this qualification in the second year of their A Levels, but students who submit a good proposal will be considered during their first year of AS Studies. The Extended Project supports the learner’s UCAS application, and there will be the opportunity to investigate a topic behind the normal confines of their A level qualifications. Learners will be able to: • Devise, design and plan a project • Research, critically select, organise and use information • Demonstrate independent learning skills • Produce a really substantial piece of work in their area of interest The Extended project is graded like A levels - Grade A* to Grade E, where A* is the highest achievement. It can therefore attract up to 70 UCAS points. There are no examinations. The project grade will be achieved from the project submitted. Universities are keen on students who undertake an Extended Project, mainly because the skills involved are important for students to successfully study and succeed on their degree courses.

The EBACC programme provides students with the opportunity to top up their academic GCSE subjects which will support their application for higher education or employment. The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) will be awarded to any student who secures good GCSE passes in English, Mathematics, the Sciences, a Modern or Foreign Language and a Humanities subject.
