College Support
Excellence The College teaching teams have been consistently praised in reports by External Verifiers, Ofsted and QAA in the subjects we offer at higher level. Our records for achievement and success are outstanding and every year our pass rates are above national averages.
We offer a wide range of Access courses, Higher National Diplomas, Higher National Certificates, Foundation Degrees, BSc (Hons) and professional qualifications in partnership with prestigious local universities and we aim to continually expand our higher education courses to offer as much choice as possible. As a majority of our higher education students’ progress directly onto the second or final year of an honours degree at one of our partner universities, we aim for students to spend some time at our partner university sites, so they can truly appreciate what it is like to be a university student. Our latest survey of higher education students revealed that their main reasons for choosing Birmingham Metropolitan College were: • Superb facilities • Friendly and supportive environment
Top quality teaching At Birmingham Metropolitan College, students will benefit from expert tuition, taught in small university style seminar groups. Most of the teaching staff have worked in industry before working for the College. This means they are able to relate the theory to the practice. Our staff teach on both A Levels and Higher Education University programmes, which means that there is no wasted repetition of what has already been covered at BTEC or A Level. Help with your course Students who enrol at the College as a higher education student will be allocated a personal tutor who will act as personal contact, monitoring
Sutton Coldfield Campus
progress and offering support during the duration of the course. Students will spend some time with their personal tutor each week to review their progress throughout the course. Help with your studies The College provides a full range of student support services so students can access • Impartial course and career advice • Help with applying for the next stage of your education or training • Help with your financial queries • Confidential support with personal matters Help with any problems The College offers a personal counselling service to help students cope with any difficulties they are experiencing within or outside College. It is confidential and can help with emotional, relationship, personal and study problems. Our counsellors are experienced, qualified professionals. This service is available to all students, free of charge.
University support If the chosen course of study is accredited by one of our partner universities, students will normally have full access to that university’s resources and facilities, including the library, IT centre, recreational facilities and student services. Higher education administrators The higher education administrators play a key role in student support and act as a first point of contact for students with issues surrounding their studies. The administrators also control the handing in of assignments and the publication of exam results.
