Turkey: History, Culture and Civilisation BMHC is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of its latest book Turkey: History, Culture and Civilisation. BMHC published its first work, Arabia: Cradle of Civilisation last year and both books are written by the same renowned historian Dr Salah E Djazairi. The book on Turkey, which is just over 200pp in length aims at informing the public, academics and others, about the main contributions that Turkey has made to modern civilisation. Initially the book examines the history of Turkey, giving a brief outline of the major events and figures within Turkish history from the rise of the Ottomans, late in the 13th century until the early 20th century, and culminating with the demise of the same Ottoman realm.

NOT TO BE MISSED: JOURNEY THROUGH MUSLIM LANDS II: Al-Sham: Birthplace of heavenly religions.
The book then proceeds to highlight the various aspects of Turkish culture and civilisation. This includes a chapter on the Turkish economic system, including trade and economic institutions as well as the main Turkish industries such as ship building. Turkish society and the place of minorities in Turkey, together with Turkey’s traditional care for wildlife and domestic animals. The book then makes a substantial study of Turkish contribution to modern sciences and civilisation, focusing on medical studies. The final chapter is devoted to Turkish gardens and Turkish contribution to botany in the West. The book ends with a large reference section and an extensive bibliography. This publication is probably the only one book in any Western language that makes an overall study of Turkey and is accessible to all. The book is also beautifully illustrated which makes it very attractive and ideal as a coffee table book.

These rockets were later used by the British Navy, including the battle for McHenry’s Fort.

Report on 1st Event
Journey through Muslim Lands Arabia - Cradle of Civilisation This was probably the only event in a long time that has celebrated Arabia and its legacy in Manchester or anywhere else in the UK. In Dr Al-Shamahi and Dr Al-Shayyal, the event was truly inspired by two scholars of great quality. Dr AlShamahi brought along not only vast knowledge, but also a great enthusiasm which was very captivating as well as inspiring. Dr Al-Shayyal, on the other hand, is by far one of the current eminent scholars of the Muslim world with regards to historical knowledge, and this was quite apparent on the day. There are not many people who have mastered the intricate details of early Islamic history as much as Dr Al-Shayyal has. His knowledge of the present state of both scholarship and the reality of the Muslim world combined with his interaction amongst other faiths, as a result of his extensive experience, is extremely important, and was clearly evident on the day. During the question and answer session, Dr Al-Shamahi o tackled some tricky issues extremely well, most particularly those related to the status of the Muslims in the West, and how Muslims can relate and interact with non-Muslims. A number of neutral observers present on the day recognised this great contribution by Dr Al-Shamahi. Additionally the speakers were very fluent in the use of language especially in relation to complex scholarly and historical matters. At the same time, the information was disseminated with a great degree of clarity and simplicity which engaged most of the audience. Finally, the three talks harmoniously complemented each other, as each speaker added on the previous one. The result was a comprehensive and enjoyable presentation of Arabia’s early history, its culture and civilisation, and its contribution to modern civilisation.
