ENTRIES GUIDE 2025

Welcome to the Onboard Hospitality Awards 2025, one of the biggest and best in the history of these prestigious awards.

The standard of entries this year has been exceptionally high. With just shy of 200 products entered and five major airlines battling it out to be crowned Cabin Concept of the Year 2025, our judges have been handed a monumental task to select this year's winners.

Of course, helping them in their decision-making was our online readership vote, which plays a vital role in selecting which products make it through the first round to become finalists. This year we received nearly 2,000 votes – thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say.

On a personal level, I was thrilled this year to see growth in our two newest categories which focus on inclusive travel: Best for Accessibility Onboard, which we launched in 2024, and Best Onboard Special Meal or Product, a new category for 2025. This shows real commitment from the industry to enabling safer and more comfortable journeys for all. We love to see it!

Key to the enduring success of the Onboard Hospitality Awards is our unique judging process, of which we are extremely proud.

All entries are first voted for online by our international readership, allowing for informed peer-to-peer recognition.

Those eligible to vote are our readers, the buyers and suppliers of onboard hospitality who are best placed to recognise a good product or service, or a true innovation.

These are the people – you and your colleagues – who are the industry insiders with expertise in the field.

he A321XLR marks a transformative step for Iberia, enabling efficient transoceanic flights with a narrowbody, single-aisle aircraft for the first time, while maintaining the comfort of its long-haul fleet.

Iberia’s cabin concept for the A321XLR integrates sustainability, comfort, technology and exceptional service.

Comfort

The A321XLR brings the same high standards of comfort found on Iberia’s wide-body aircraft, such as the A330 and A350, to its narrow-body fleet. With 182 seats distributed across Business and Economy cabins, the aircraft ensures an elevated travel experience for every passenger.

The Business cabin features 14 Thompson Solo seats, each positioned by a window with direct aisle access. These seats can be converted into fully flat beds and are designed with wide leather headrests and generous storage compartments.

To enhance the sleeping experience, Iberia also provides a mattress to each Business class passenger for extra comfort during rest time.

In the Business cabin, wood finishes and unique textiles combine with foamed inner seat shells and leather accents to deliver a luxurious yet cosy experience. The Business class seats also feature integrated mood light details that enhance the environment and add a premium touch.

Both Business and Economy class seats have been thoughtfully engineered with lightweight materials, comfort and streamlined design in mind. Unnecessary components were eliminated, with this weight reduction focused on fuel efficiency.

Technology

Developed in collaboration with Panasonic, the next-generation IFE Next system combines advanced technology with an intuitive, user-friendly interface. The IFE Next system boasts vivid 4K resolution screens that also reduce eye strain.

In Economy, an innovative secondary screen below the main display ensures crew messages can be delivered without interrupting the content being viewed. The IFE system supports Bluetooth connectivity, enabling customers to pair their personal headphones effortlessly. While each seat has USB-A and USB-C ports, as well as universal power outlets to allow device charging.

A new “digital concierge” service, accessed via its website, provides passengers with detailed information about the menus available on their flights. For short- and medium-haul flights, Iberia has revamped its Gastrobar service, featuring a refreshed menu and new products. The “Gastrobar A Tu Asiento” feature allows passengers to order directly from their mobile devices.

Pre-order options have also been expanded; Google Pay and Apple Pay are among the smooth and secure payment options.

Sustainability

In 2024, Iberia launched new Business class amenity kits designed by Teresa Helbig. Each includes vegan cosmetic products crafted in Spain from surplus grapes used in the wines selected by Araex’s Wine Club. Packaging is made from sugar cane and certified by I’m Green.

By recycling 7.5 million 550ml plastic bottles, the initiative saved 1.2 million litres of water and reduced energy emissions by 70%. Packaging production is managed by Envera, an organisation employing over 400 individuals with disabilities.

To minimise waste, kits are provided upon request, allowing customers to select the full set or individual items.

By being one of the first African airlines to operate the A350-1000, Ethiopian Airlines is setting a benchmark for the continent’s aviation sector.

Interior Design

Key features of the A350-1000 include a spacious cabin accommodating up to 395 passengers across Business and Economy classes. All benefit from a quieter cabin, larger windows, wider seats and more legroom. Passengers in Business class can enjoy direct aisle access, privacy rooms and electrical dimmable windows.

Onboard enhancements also include better cabin air quality and unique lighting scenes that create a soothing and immersive atmosphere.

Technology

In March 2024, Ethiopian Airlines redefined luxury air travel by offering complimentary onboard Wi-Fi to its Business class passengers.

Powered by cutting-edge satellite technology powered by Viasat and Inmarsat, the service delivers reliable and high-speed internet access across the airline’s network. Passengers can simply connect their devices to the airline’s Wi-Fi portal using a personalised code provided upon boarding. Pushing the boundaries further, the launch of

the airline's AVANT Up IFE system offers a more personalised and engaging inflight experience through high-definition content, interactive features and seamless connectivity, allowing passengers to access a variety of media, including movies, TV shows, music, and games. This state-of-the-art technology features Samsung QLED screens, ranging from 11.6″ to 17.3″ inches, that deliver 4K visuals for a a truly immersive cinematic experience. GoJet gets creative with CRJ-550 rollout

GoJet Airlines and partner United Airlines were seeking a key differentiator in the regional aviation space. Their goal was to provide a one-of-a-kind experience for Business class and regional travellers while offering additional assistance and perks for regional flight crews, as well as meeting aviation demands and guidelines.

The cabin concept for the CRJ-550 came from a desire to offer the same options and luxuries for non-economy travellers through larger regional aircraft. GoJet Airlines wanted to differentiate the 50-seat aircraft market by offering First class and Economy Plus seating, something no other comparable aircraft has. The issue was that converting a current 50-seat aircraft would have made GoJet Airlines’ vision impossible. However, GoJet, partnered with United Airlines, had 70-seat CRJ-700s to spare, which created a unique opportunity. GoJet Airlines now had the space necessary for this type of conversion and seat offering while saving both time and money compared to commissioning new aircraft.

The GoJet Airlines team was tasked with designing an aircraft cabin within the CRJ-700 body that could accommodate all three levels of cabin pricing and use the additional space of the bigger aircraft to create a unique passenger experience and ease the burden on small flight crews.

Comfort

GoJet Airlines introduced three distinct seating options on the CRJ-550: First class, Economy Plus, and Economy, marking a significant improvement over its predecessor, the CRJ-700. These

enhancements were made possible through GoJet Airlines’ efficiency improvements to the original configuration. The redesigned layout not only provides additional legroom but also allows for the addition of eight premium seats, achieving a seating breakdown of 10 First class, 20 Economy Plus, and 20 Economy seats in the standard 1-2, 2-2 configuration.

Each seating class is distinguished by its colour palette, with rich tones and premium materials that reflect an updated and luxurious take on United Airlines’ branding. By blending spacious design,

premium amenities and streamlined service, the CRJ-550 redefines comfort in regional flying, delivering a truly customer-centric experience.

Interior design

A standout feature of the CRJ-550 is the addition of four dedicated luggage storage cabinets. Recognising the growing preference for carry-on luggage, GoJet Airlines installed these cabinets to minimise the need for valeted bags, addressing the limited storage space that is a common challenge on regional aircraft. By positioning the cabinets at the front of each cabin area, passengers can stow carry-on items before reaching their seats, reducing congestion and expediting boarding and deplaning.

Catering

The First class cabin on the CRJ-550 is designed with service excellence in mind, offering six seats in three rows on the starboard side and four single seats on the port side for an exclusive and spacious experience. One of its standout features is the innovative refreshment bar, located just in front of the first row on the starboard side. This unique addition provides First class passengers with convenient, self-serve access to an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages and premium snacks.

While alcoholic beverages continue to be served exclusively by the flight attendant, the bar enhances the overall delivery of service by allowing cabin crews to focus their attention more efficiently across the aircraft. First class passengers enjoy premium amenities on demand, while the streamlined setup enables attendants to provide attentive service to Economy passengers.

With a new Business class tableware range and an eco-friendly blanket, the objective was to reflect Morocco’s rich heritage while meeting the functional requirements of inflight service.

Catering

The brief given to Royal Air Maroc’s supplier Global Inflight Products (GIP) was to create elegant and distinctive tableware to enhance passenger comfort and enjoyment, leaving a lasting positive impression of their onboard dining experience.

The tableware was also required to embody Moroccan culture through its shapes, a design that is both modern and authentic, and the core values of Royal Air Maroc.

Dining with refined tableware enhances the overall enjoyment of the meal. Furthermore, appropriate presentation, such as using a bowl for soup or a tagine, is designed to make the meal more appealing and emphasise the colors and textures of the food.

The new tableware serves as a tangible representation of Royal Air Maroc’s dedication to excellence, innovation and quality. It is an innovation that seamlessly blends cultural representation with functional design.

By incorporating patterns and designs inspired by traditional Moroccan tableware into a contemporary format, this collection marks a

regional first, establishing itself as a unique offering in the competitive premium air travel market.
