SOLITAIRE
DESERT
Just outside of Desert Hot Springs, California and back in the desolate, rock covered hills that surround it, lies the Nude Bowl. An abandoned kidney bean shaped swimming pool that once was part of a nudist resort named “Desert Gardens Ranch. The Nude Bowl was a popular spot for skaters from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, often sessioned by iconic pros at the time and featured in several videos and magazines, but after numerous complaints about guns, fighting and partying the local law enforcement had it filled in with dirt. In recent years it was dug out and repaired and has once again become a destination for skaters of all generations. Taking advantage of cooler weather this time of year, the RVCA team decided to make a mission out there and enjoy the desert solitude and a piece of skateboard history.

SOMEWHERE With the transition from summer into winter reminds us of season change. When the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier while the arrival of day becomes noticeably later. During the Fall season, it’s the layers that count the most.

“In a time when gender lines are more blurred than ever and the need to be defined as either male or female is dissipating, we are inspired to explore the idea of the undefined. Clothing is used as a form of self-expression, with this collection we intend to bridge the gap and provide a Neutral platform for people to do just that. We have taken a minimalistic approach, with comfort and wearability at the forefront. Using soft hand fabrics, heavy laundering and indigo dyes to create worn in timeless pieces. With subtle hints of workwear and utilitarian styling, each piece is designed for versatility, to look good and wear well on anyone and allow the wearer to style their own way.

STEVE POWERS Stephen Powers was born and raised in Philadelphia. Known by his graffiti name ESPO, he moved to New York City in 1994, working as a magazine publisher and graffiti writer before opening his studio in 1999. That year, Powers stopped writing graffiti and tending bar to dedicate himself to being a full-time artist. His work has been shown at Venice and Liverpool Biennials, as well as numerous shows (TO BE FAIR: 2.75 shows) at Deitch Projects. Powers was a Fulbright scholar in 2007. He used the grant to paint in the streets of Dublin and Belfast. His work in Belfast’s Lower Shankill area was inspired by the area’s political murals; Powers told the New York Times that he was “taking the form of the murals, which are powerful for all the wrong reasons, and trying to retain some of the power and use it in a really good way.”

No Wave is a compilation of creative design input and this season, we worked closely with Ellis Ericson. His experimental approach to surfing makes him unique, as does his sense of style. He hand picked pieces as inspiration for the line and shot the campaign in VHS‌the result is a rough but wearable look that fits perfectly into the unique No Wave collection.

ENDLESS FUN One of the best things about skating is the friendships it creates. Skateboarding, at it’s best, is a creative expression of how you view the environment around you and adapt to it. There’s no rules, no coaches, no scores and no right or wrong way to do it. You don’t need a brand new board, a perfect ramp or a top tier skatepark. Sometimes all you need is an empty parking lot and a couple of friends for endless fun. It’s this unique perspective of the world that creates a bond between friends and skaters of all types and generations that can last a lifetime.
