AGUS “BAGUL” PURNOMO
Gallery favorite Agus does with numbers what a Michelin star chef can do with vegetables. In some cases, you can’t even tell that he’s painting numbers until you closely examine the paintings—which tend to draw you in like a show window. His works are in the collections of many of our clients and friends.
We have represented the award-winning Indonesian artist Agus Bagul Purnomo for more than twelve years. Agus ‘creates abstract works painting primarily with numbers.
Each painting is so different and Purnomo works with the broadest palate of any artist we work with. In photos I’ve seen of him, he’s standing or sitting in front of the canvas with more than 20 paint cans at his side. The two works on the following page are paintings on paper and are framed with a white frame. Signed by the artist on the front with date.

ALICE NEEL Alice Neel (1900-1984) is widely regarded as one of the foremost American artists of the twentieth century. As the avant-garde of the 1940s and 1950s renounced figuration, Neel developed her signature approach to the human body. Working from life and memory, she created daringly honest portraits of her family, friends, neighbors, art world colleagues, writers, poets, artists, actors, activists, and more. Neel was born in 1900 in Merion Square, Pennsylvania, and died in 1984 in New York. In 1921, she enrolled in the fine art program at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women (now Moore College of Art and Design) and graduated in 1925. Her most recent exhibition Alice Neel: People Come First, originated at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, is currently on view at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao through February 6, 2022, before traveling to Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in 2022. Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, will exhibit Alice Neel: Un regard engagé. Other solo presentations include those held at National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC (2005); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2008); The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2011); and the Talbot Rice Gallery, The University of Edinburgh (2016). Work by the artist is represented in permanent collections that include the Art Institute of Chicago; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Tate, London; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
ALICE NEEL A scene-stealing iconic print by Alice Neel. Neel depicts John Rothschild, a wealthy and well-connected man. Neel and Rothschild had a famous friendship, one complicated and often painful. Rothschild left his wife and children in hopes of marrying Neel, but disappointment with a previous marriage made her determined not to remarry. Regardless, Rothschild was a friend, lover, and supporter to Neel. Their extensive relationship gave her intimate access to his struggles and flaws, which she captures in this portrait. Stripped of wealth and grandeur, Neel’s art renders her figures raw and unvarnished. Portrait of John Rothschild Lithograph in Colors on Arches Paper 27.5 in x 21.25 in 69.8 cm x 53.9 Edition of 150 Signed front with edition number , Unframed ¥ 550,000 | $4800 USD
ALICE NEEL A portray of love and caring. Neel had painted the growing family of contemporary artist and friend John Evans (1932-2012) since 1978. Her oil Margaret Evans Pregnant, 1978, now in the Institute for Contemporary Arts, Boston, portrayed the powerful physical transformation and selfassuredness of the pregnant woman, a topic artists had historically overlooked. The twins from that pregnancy are the subjects of the current screen print. In this print, Margaret Evans, a close friend of Alice Neel’s, sits on the floor with her twin children.. Margaret’s and her children’s bodies overlap, suggesting that children are an extension of their mother.
Evans Twins Color screenprint on Arches Paper, 1982. 805x1069 mm; 31 5/8x42 inches (sheet), Signed, dated and numberedin pencil, lower margin. Edition of 75 Signed front with edition number, unframed ¥ 550,000 | $4800 USD
The figures are placed to the right side of the composition, leaving a large white openness to the left, which is relieved by the projecting feet of the baby on that side. The viewpoint is elevated, as if the artist were standing above her subjects when she rendered them.

JUN OGATA
Jun Ogata’s vision transport the viewers into the realm of minimalism and harmony. His works are perfect for creating the feeling of Japan in your home. Jun is one of our gallery favorites and brings us on a journey that is tactile and conceptual. His works displays ancient Japanese sensibility of divulging a convincing and refined relationship between the rigid sense of geometry and the freedom of association within the domains of memory and imagination. His process is a personal evolution in the realm of abstraction and minimalism, conveying both representational and abstract elements into an unfailing harmony. The works in this exhibition give focus to the beauty of nature and the artist’s belief that “All things are in a state of Flux”– all things and events are constantly changing – a view that he truly values. The dialogue established by texture and his use of colors is captivating in his works, and it is a crucial part of his creations. With vague images of nature, the imaginative use of colors and textures; and seemingly simplistic gestures, Ogata brings us along the entire life-cycle of flowers and the seasons in Japan. Jun Ogata’s works have been exhibited worldwide and his most recent shows have been in London, Sweden, Singapore, Hanoi, New York and Tokyo. . 〔 EDUCATION 〕 1991 Graduated from Musashino Art University. 1993 Graduated from department of art of Wako University. 1995 Completed the graduate school of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts

ZANDILE TSHABALALA . Representing the African woman with power and passion. The artist taps into topics of beauty, sensuality and the relationship between the black female body and the landscape. An outstanding print from award winning artist Zandile Tshabalala who has recently held sold-out shows in German and the UK. Zandlile Tshabalala was Born in Soweto, South Africa, 1999 where she continues to live and work. Zandile Tshabalala’s arresting figurative works write new narratives around the roles that Black women play in art history. A painting perfect for these times. Confinement and limitations take many shapes—physical and psychological. During the times of this pandemic we have all experienced different levels of confinement. Like many of us, the crouched figure really tries to escape. Although our situation may be different, there is a certain universality to this painting. The eye Tran Trong Vu casts is not of one of scorn but of understanding. His art pushes us think, make us consider our own lives and may inspire us to take bolder steps.
