Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Kicks Off 2025 Girl Scout Cookie Season
Boca Raton, FL – Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida has kicked off the sweetest time of the year with the 2025 Girl Scout Cookie® season, inviting fans everywhere to satisfy their cravings while supporting girls as they build their entrepreneurial skills and strive toward brighter futures. This beloved season returns in full swing, promising both classic favorites and innovative opportunities for girls to achieve their goals.
This year’s lineup features the iconic flavors fans know and love, including Thin Mints®, Samoas®, and Tagalongs®. However, cookie enthusiasts should take note: 2025 marks the final season for the much-loved Girl Scout S’mores® cookie, so this is the last chance to savor this treat.
When girls participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, the largest entrepreneurial program for girls in the world, they learn essential business and leadership skills, including goal setting, money management, decision-making, people skills and business ethics. Each box of cookies sold not only helps to support girls’ ambitions but also strengthens their courage, confidence and character as they take on new challenges and embrace life-changing experiences.
“Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, our girls develop skills that prepare them to take on the world,” said Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida. “Every cookie

purchase fuels unique opportunities for Girl Scouts to explore their passions, make an impact in their communities and gain experiences they’ll carry for a lifetime.”
Every dollar from cookie sales stays local, helping Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida troops fund inspiring activities, including outdoor adventures, service projects and travel opportunities. Community members are encouraged to support their local Girl Scouts by ordering cookies or visiting a cookie booth near them. Girl Scout Cookies are on sale in South Florida now through March 2.
How to Purchase Girl Scout Cookies in 2025
From a Girl Scout You Know: Reach out directly to a Girl Scout to purchase cookies either in person or online.
Online Orders: Starting February 21, those who do not know a Girl Scout will be able to enter their zip code into the Cookie Finder to purchase cookies for direct shipment to your home.
In addition to supporting Girl Scouts locally, community members can participate in the 17th annual Cookies for the Military program. This initiative allows customers to donate cookies to service members both domestically and overseas, sending them a comforting “taste of home.” Last year, more than 57,798 boxes were donated, and Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida aims
to reach 75,000 boxes in 2025. Since the program began, over 813,000 boxes have been shipped through partnerships with nonprofit organizations that provide care packages and support to troops and their families, including Forgotten Soldiers, Operation Homefront, the American Legion, and Soldiers’ Angels.
To support Cookies for the Military, donations can be made by purchasing a box ($6) or case ($72) from a Girl Scout or by visiting www.cookiesforthemilitary.org.

How 3rd Trump Trip to PB May Affect Boca Airport
By Marci Shatzman
A VIP Temporary Flight Restriction was just issued, meaning President Trump’s expected back to his Palm Beach winter White House over President’s Day weekend plus from Friday Feb. 14 to 19. TFRs are subject to last-minute changes.
What exactly does that mean, and how will it affect Boca Raton Airport?
“The FAA reroutes arrivals and departures out of Boca Raton Airport to avoid the 10-nautical mile ring that is centered over Mar-A-Lago when the President is in residence. So, flights are routed farther east and west depending on direction of travel. This means that certain communities that don’t typically see flights over their area may see temporary shifts in overflight activity,”

each presidential visit to Palm Beach due to temporary flight restrictions over Mar-A-Lago,” Bennett said. “It’s hard to predict, but overall, on certain weekends and holidays when the President was in town, there was a doubling of jet activity.”
Just in case…“we have coordinated parking procedures with our FixedBase Operators and are working with the FAA to ensure an efficient flow of aircraft arrivals and departures. The airport has limited aircraft parking space, but coordination will allow aircraft to land and drop off or pick up passengers as long as space is available.”

“Jesus said, ‘No procrastination. No backward looks. You can’t put God’s kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day.”’ Luke 9:62 (MSG)
The Bible tells the story of a blind man named Bartimaeus. One day, as Jesus and his followers left Jericho, they came upon him begging by the side of the road. When he heard that Jesus was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:47 NIV).
When Bartimaeus got up that morning, he had no idea that this was the day Jesus was going to walk by. He thought it was just another ordinary day: same place, same cry for help, same situation.
But suddenly Jesus was there. Bartimaeus had no time to prepare or think

Some time ago I read this intriguing statement from Winston Churchill, the one-time prime minister of England: “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” Consider that for a few moments.
The quotation resonated with me because people who know me are aware that I typically have lots of enthusiasm. But not always. This quote reminded me that I am to get back up in the midst of failure and keep climbing the hill – maintaining the same level of enthusiasm! This can be difficult, especially in our culture that in many ways will tell us that any failure is final. However, as Churchill pointed out, success is borne out of failure; success will be inevitable if we persevere.
Growing from failure. God’s Word says that we become stronger facing our failures – actually growing from them!
Reading 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, written by the apostle Paul who experienced more than his share of failure and adversity, tells us all we need to know: “‘My

through his response. It was just an opportunity that dropped in his lap. And he chose to seize the moment. He decided not to delay or procrastinate. He was going to do it—now.
That’s the first key to a fresh start in your life too: Whatever you’re going to do, do it now. Don’t say, “Next year I’m going to make a fresh start,” or “Next month I’m going to make some changes,” or “Tomorrow I’m going to make that a priority.” It’s now or never. Seize the moment!
Every day, we have opportunities for a fresh start, but we don’t take advantage of them. Why? We procrastinate.
Procrastination is a strange phenomenon. You think it will make your life easi-
er when it actually does just the opposite. It’s a stress generator!
When you know the right thing to do, today is the time to do it. Don’t assume you can wait for tomorrow.
The Bible warns over and over about presuming upon tomorrow. I’m not guaranteed a tomorrow, and neither are you. Jesus said, “No procrastination. No backward looks. You can’t put God’s kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day” (Luke 9:62 MSG).
You have no guarantee that you will live tomorrow. Whatever you’re going to do, you better do it now.

grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, Idelightin weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
When failure comes, my human nature says, ‘Take it easy. Just don’t try that again, Jay!’ However, the quote from Churchill reminds me not be deterred with a failure, but to press on and try again. And at the same time, I should maintain a high level of enthusiasm!
Learning from failure. The Bible does not say we should necessarily be excited about failures. However, God’s Word gives us the strength to learn and grow from our failures, even in the midst of them. The Apostle Paul explains why in Romans 5. He states we should “glory in our sufferings” (Romans 5:3). Another translation says we should “rejoice” in them. This gives us an incredible formu-
la to consider: Suffering + Faith + Time + Trust in God = Hope
Another apostle, James, even goes as far as to say not only are we to rejoice in sufferings but we are also to “consider it pure joy…whenever I face trials of many kinds.” But he does not stop there. James continues, “because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4). Without failure and adversity, we would never learn how to persevere.
Coping with failure. Every day we can find ourselves dealing with suffering (also known as failure) in various forms. These might include such things as: difficulties in communicating with people we work with; dealing with demanding, even unreasonable customers; failing to close an important sale or losing a major client; or facing disappointment and discouragement when our day does not proceed as planned. How do we cope with such

times in an appropriate manner? The key is to realize and act upon the promise that God’s grace is “sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
What are we to learn from all of this? I believe God wants us to stay focused every day and pray diligently for each day to be successful, without loss of enthusiasm, despite the failures and setbacks that will inevitably show up. We need to remember that Jesus Christ has us and will not let go. He alone can provide enduring hope amid our daily failures.

FAU Just Announced Hasner New President
By Marci Shatzman

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2025) – The Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees voted unanimously to select Adam Hasner the university’s eighth president, his start date is to be determined pending confirmation by the State University System’s Board of Governors. As the university’s next president, President Hasner will build on FAU’s legacy and growing national recognition, while working with faculty and staff to chart new strategies for FAU’s future.
“Florida Atlantic University is a shining example of what a modern university can achieve – academic excellence, cutting-edge research, student access and success, all while maintaining a strong connection to the communities it serves,” said Hasner. “I am honored to be chosen to lead this incredible institution and work alongside its talented students, top-tier faculty, and dedicated staff to drive FAU’s mission forward.
Together, we will continue to innovate, inspire and make a lasting, positive impact in the lives of our students, our community and the state.
“My primary focus will always be on our students — ensuring that we are providing them with the best possible opportunities for success, both during their time at Florida Atlantic and beyond. I have proudly championed Florida Atlantic for many years, and I am excited to continue advocating for its academic excellence and pioneering research.
“I also want to extend my sincere gratitude to Interim President Stacy Volnick for her leadership over the past two years, as well as for her remarkable service to Florida Atlantic spanning more than three decades. She has provided invaluable stability to the university during challenging times. I look forward to collaborating closely with her to ensure a smooth and successful transition, and to working alongside her and the Florida Atlantic faculty, staff, and supporters to advance the university toward excellence across all six campuses, from Fort Lauderdale to Fort Pierce, in the years ahead. Florida Atlantic is my hometown university.
“During my time in the Florida Legislature, I made its priorities my own, and I take great pride in having maintained a strong connection with the university for over the past 20 years. Jillian and I are thrilled for the opportunity to serve the entire Florida Atlantic community in the years to come.”
Hasner served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010,
including two terms as House Majority Leader, where he championed initiatives in health care, education and economic development. His legislative accomplishments include working with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to establish Florida’s life sciences industry with significant funding for biomedical research, while leading the efforts to secure funding to establish FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine.
Hasner also championed FAU’s ocean energy initiative, sponsoring key legislation in 2006 and 2008 that laid the foundation for creating the Office of the Ocean Economy at FAU. He also played a pivotal role in securing $43 million for FAU’s current College of Engineering building, the first state-funded higher education facility to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
Beyond his career, Hasner is active in community service, serving on the board of trustees for Boca Raton Regional Hospital; on the dean’s advisory board for FAU’s College of Business; the board of directors at People’s Trust Insurance Company; and on the board of advisors for Gogig Jobs, Inc.
A native of Palm Beach County, Hasner is a product of the local public school system and the son of two educators. He earned a juris doctor from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland. He resides in Boca Raton with his wife, Jillian, who is the chief executive officer of the nonprofit organization Take Stock in Children.
“I would like to thank the entire
search committee, and especially chair Sherry Murphy, for running an organized, transparent and efficient search process,” said Piero Bussani, chair of FAU’s Board of Trustees. “They worked tirelessly to consider numerous highly qualified candidates, bringing us an excellent group of finalists to interview. I am proud of all the work they have done, and I am confident Adam Hasner will make an excellent president. I look forward to working with him to continue FAU’s amazing trajectory.”
In recent years, FAU has climbed the rankings while earning national recognition for its commitment to academic excellence, groundbreaking research, and fostering a dynamic campus environment.
As the university’s chief executive officer, Hasner will oversee an institution that currently serves more than 30,000 students with more than 170 degree programs across six campuses spanning from Broward County north to St. Lucie County. One of the largest employers in South Florida, FAU has nearly 3,500 employees with an annual operating budget of more than $1.2 billion. The university’s funded research is valued at more than $75 million in critically important fields such as neuroscience, drug discovery, biotechnology, ocean engineering and marine science. FAU also sports 21 Division I athletic programs, with its men’s basketball team making it to the Final Four in 2023.

The MICHELIN Guide Welcomes New Cities in Florida Expansion

Palm Beach, FL — Today the MICHELIN Guide announced it will be expanding its selection in Florida with three new destinations being added in 2025. In addition to Miami, Orlando and Tampa, the 2025 selection will include restaurants in Greater Fort Lauderdale, The Palm Beaches and St. Pete-Clearwater. Beginning in 2026, the selection will grow further to become a state-wide selection covering all of Florida.
“Florida continues to raise the bar with its emerging culinary talent, international influences and the palpable passion of its local restaurant communities,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “Over the past three years, we’ve seen the Florida selection grow and strengthen as our Inspectors shined a spotlight on their discoveries. We look forward to exploring these new destinations and highlighting the excellence of their local restaurant scene.”
The MICHELIN Guide’s anonymous Inspectors are already in the field, making dining reservations and scouting for culinary gems in the new territories. The full 2025 restaurant selection will be revealed at a later date during the annual MICHELIN Guide ceremony for Florida.
“The MICHELIN Guide’s expansion into three additional Florida destinations in 2025 and statewide in 2026 further cements the state as a premier culinary destination for both locals and visitors. Florida’s rich and diverse culinary scene has long been a cornerstone of the vacation experience, and we are thrilled that more talented chefs and exceptional restaurants across the state will now receive the recognition they deserve,” said Dana Young, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA.
The MICHELIN Guide is constantly observing the evolution of culinary destinations around the world. The Guide’s selection process is de-
termined by anonymous Inspectors and remains completely independent. The MICHELIN Guide is working with Visit Florida on marketing and promotional activities only.
History and methodology
The upcoming restaurant selection will follow Michelin’s historical methodology, based on five universal criteria, to ensure each destination’s selection equity: 1) quality products; 2) the harmony of flavors; 3) the mastery of cooking techniques; 4) the voice and personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine; 5) consistency between each visit and throughout the menu (each restaurant is inspected several times a year).
The MICHELIN Guide remains a reliable companion for any traveler seeking a great meal. The Guide was first published in France at the turn of the 20th century to encourage tire sales by giving practical advice to French motorists. Michelin’s Inspectors still use the same criteria and manner of selection that were used by Inspectors in the very beginning, now applied in destinations around the world.
Michelin announced its first North American Guide in 2005 for New York. Guides have also been added in Chicago (2011); Washington, D.C. (2017); California (San Francisco in 2007, statewide 2019); Miami/Orlando/Tampa, Florida (2022); Toronto (2022); Vancouver (2022); Colorado (2023); Atlanta (2023), Mexico (2024), Texas (2024), Quebec (2024) and now Greater Fort Lauderdale, The Palm Beaches and St. Pete-Clearwater, Florida (2025).
Michelin, the leading mobility company, is working with tires, around tires and beyond tires to enable Motion for Life. Dedicated to enhancing its clients’ mobility and sustainability, Michelin designs and
distributes the most suitable tires, services and solutions for its customers’ needs. Michelin provides digital services, maps and guides to help enrich travels and make them unique experiences. Bringing its expertise to new markets, the company is investing in high-technology materials, 3D printing and hydrogen, to serve a wide variety of industries—from aerospace to biotech. Headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, Michelin North America has approximately 23,500 employees and operates 35 production facilities in the United States and Canada. (michelinman.com)

FAU High School Student Secures Victory at Incubate Debate Tournament

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, high school students from Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Collier counties competed at Incubate Debate’s Winter Championship at Miami Dade College. Students engaged in rigorous debates on whether the electoral college should be replaced with a national popular vote and whether or not controversial historical statues should be removed.
David Arutyunyan of Florida Atlantic University High School secured victory by arguing that “it was time for the electoral college to go,” and defended his arguments against vigorous pushback from fellow debaters who had spent the past two months preparing for Saturday’s debate.
In his acceptance speech, David
said “I really believe that Incubate Debate is a place where we can learn public speaking and debate skills that are going to be incredibly valuable in not only our near futures but also our longterm growth.”
Dr. Robinson Reyes, Professor of Business at Florida International University, said, “Incubate Debate is doing something truly special—giving students the platform to develop sharp reasoning, articulate arguments, and engage in the kind of rigorous debate that will serve them for a lifetime.”
Incubate’s Founder, James Fishback, described Saturday’s debate as “electric,” and “a shining example of the rigorous, civil debates that America needs more of.”

Tennis Fans Support a Worthy Cause at Delray Beach Open

DELRAY BEACH, FL – Tennis fans have an awesome opportunity to support a worthy cause while cheering at Monday’s Delray Beach Open. This year, attendees who donate 10 canned food items will gain free entry into the tennis games as part of the annual effort to address food insecurity in the city’s schools. This initiative reflects the event’s commitment to not only providing thrilling sports entertainment but also making a meaningful impact on the community.
“The generosity of our fans and community continues to inspire us,” said Adam Baron, director of the Delray Beach Open. “By coming together for this important cause, we can help ensure that no child goes hungry, and every student has the opportunity to thrive.”
All food items donated at the February 10 day games will support pantries at area schools. This effort is crucial in addressing the widespread issue of food insecurity that affects many children in Florida.
“We know first-hand that, like falling dominos, childhood hunger can impact
everything from a child’s physical and mental well-being to their academic experiences,” said C. Ron Allen, CEO of KOP Mentoring Network. “So, by providing these foods to these schools, we can attack this issue before it arises.”
With 21 percent of Florida children currently experiencing food insecurity, learning can be a daunting task, Allen emphasized.
“Hunger is not something we can measure; it’s something we experience,”he said. “We know that children without consistent access to nutritious meals are more likely to have a future filled with uncertainty, health issues, and personal challenges.”
The Delray Beach Open invites everyone to join in this meaningful effort and enjoy a day of exciting tennis. Fans are encouraged to bring their canned food donations to the event and help make a positive impact on the community.
For more information about the event and how to participate, contact Allen at 561-665-0151.

Boca Council Picks Government Campus Partner
By Marci Shatzman

Terra Frisbie got the nod from four of five Boca City Council members as the “dance partner” for a new government campus.
Going under the name Boca Raton City Campus LLC, the combined Terra Group and Frisbee Group was voted No. 1 with major developer Related Ross the second choice. The other two proposers were considered tied but will not be considered.
Calling this a “tough decision” at their Feb. 11 meeting, Mayor Scott Singer polled council before the vote on a public/private partnership. Councilman Andy Thomson chose Related Ross, saying they had a “slight edge” because of the firm’s “history, experience and local presence.” He called his decision “a very close call,” adding, “we’re not picking a plan, we’re picking a partner.”
The multi-million project expects to relocate city hall, the main police department and reinvent the downtown as a destination with walkable greenspace. City hall and the community center next door are “at the end if their useful life,” as Councilman Marc Wigder put it. “We can’t have our city council meetings there anymore,” he added. Council now meets at the city’s 6500 Congress Ave. building and remotely.
Deputy Mayor Yvette Drucker said she chose Terra Frisbie as “the best choice for the community.” Their scaled down master plan vs. Related Ross’s for more office space and a hotel was also cited by some of 28 speakers during public comment. Among
them were well-known city architects George Garcia and Juan Caycedo in separate remarks. Related Ross had backers, too. Some residents expressed concerns about losing playing fields and tennis courts downtown. Others asked the city to slow down. “No one knew about this and it’s not what most people in Boca Raton want,” the 18th speaker said.
But the mayor and council members like CRA chair Fran Nachlas took exception, noting a new government campus has been a priority and discussed for years. The city launched a designated website on the proposals with a timeline and an email for feedback at https://myboca.us/1431/Government-Campus
Singer noted there’s public comment at city meetings. The next opportunity for formal community feedback is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Public Forums for Resident Input on Ranked Proposals at The Studio at Mizner Park. “We’ve done our best to get the word out,” Singer said.
Council members emphasized picking a partner is just the first step. “As this is a multi-year plan, the current timeline addresses only the initial proposals and proposer selection process. Once the interim agreement is executed, the parties will negotiate a comprehensive agreement covering all project details—such as financing, design, and scheduling. After the final agreement is signed, the project will advance to the next phase, which may include aspects such as detailed design, permitting, and construction,” according to the website.

Maikel Martinez: Dream Worlds on view in Boca Raton

Boca Raton, FL — Maikel Martinez: Dream Worlds is now on view through March 1 at Rosenbaum Contemporary’s Boca Raton, Fla. gallery (150 Yamato Road). The exhibition features new paintings by popular Cuban artist Maikel Martinez.
While at first glance Martinez’s works appear to be photographs or photorealistic paintings, upon closer inspection they are revealed to be places that do not actually exist. In each painting, Martinez’s memories of places from his past combine with his dreams and internal dialogue to create landscapes that have been reinvented in his mind. As he paints and plans where to place each element, he transfers the emotions he is feeling in the moment to the canvas. Through the process of painting, Martinez achieves a sense of calm, which is reflected in his works. His resulting “dream worlds” are reduced to their minimal elements.
“The images that appear on the canvas represent a kind of magical dictation from my unconscious,” Martinez said. “Throughout the creative process some of these images are transformed while others remain true to the image as originally dreamed.”
Martinez was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba. He received the Landscape
Award at the 2000 Salon Nacional, sponsored by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and held in homage to Tiburcio Lorenzo, the Cuban painter recognized as the Cuban “Lord of the Landscape.” His work has been exhibited in institutions and galleries in Europe, North and South America and the Caribbean including the Royal Bank of Canada and the Museo Provincial de Historia in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
Maikel Martinez: Dream Worlds can be viewed during Rosenbaum Contemporary’s regular Boca Raton gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on its website www.rosenbaumcontemporary.com.
Rosenbaum Contemporary, founded in 1979, is based in Boca Raton, Fla., with an additional gallery at 2 Via Parigi • Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Fla. The gallery caters to international collectors interested in investment-quality works by Postwar, Modern and Contemporary masters and presents nationally recognized museum-level exhibitions throughout the year. The gallery also offers a wide range of free services to collectors worldwide including acquisition advice, art consulting, sourcing of artists, art collection building and management and resale of select works of art.
