DIAF - Dialogue exhibition with Harry Meyer and Woo Jong Taek
In its basic form, a dialog describes the exchange between two or more people by the means of language. The term dialog describes pure communication. A dialog arises when two mutual poles meet and thus come into tension. It is not just a pure exchange of information, but a contemplation, an interlocking of different positions. However, an essential prerequisite for any dialog is also a unifying component, a common drive.
The artistic dialog with the artists Harry Meyer and Woo Jong Taek reveals such an interlocking of seemingly different positions. Art from the most diverse cultural backgrounds, linked by the inner attitude towards aesthetics of the two artists, can reveal philosophical similarities, especially through their initially obvious differences. Mutual contemplation can only be achieved through the respective artistic creation. Painting functions as a means of overcoming worldly boundaries, allowing concentration not on differences but on similarities.
The German painter Harry Meyer (*1960 in Neumarkt) is known for his expressive landscape paintings, in which he attempts to capture the essence of nature through painterly means. However, his pictures of nature are not to be understood as mimetic or romantically transfigured, but rather the artist captures on canvas the forces that linger and arise immanently in nature. In his work cycle "Gipfelwelten" (translates to “Summit worlds”), the artist devotes himself to the motif of the mountain and in particular the summit itself. The artist captures the sheer size of the mountains, sometimes on a small scale, and yet his impasto application of paint and dynamic brushstrokes enable him not only to portray the sublimity of the mountains, but also to express it atmospherically. The mountains linger in a dynamic swirl of colors and
show the true power of our nature.
The South Korean artist Woo, Jong-Taek (*1973 in Yonging, South Korea) stands in direct visual contrast to this. The works and their depiction completely elude representationalism. The artist's expressive stroke, which develops eruptively from a moment of Zen, allows an insight into a moment long past. The monochrome works in the "Memory of Origin" series show the natural energies of our world and the artist's contemplation of the fundamental philosophical question of our existence: the origin of all life. The artist combines South Korean culture and the tradition of Zen painting and calligraphy with a modern expression.
The works initially appear to diverge, but on closer inspection, similarities can be discovered in both the respective philosophies and painting styles. The sublimity of the mountains and the atmospherically depicted sublimity of Harry Meyer go hand in hand with the almost tangible contemplation of Woo Jong Taek's expressive Zen painting. The different positions intertwine and open the viewer's gaze to a discourse between two cultures.

DIAF - Dialogausstellung mit Harry Meyer und Woo Jong Taek
Ein Dialog beschreibt in seiner Grundform den Austausch zweier oder mehrerer Personen mittels Sprache. Der Begriff des Dialoges beschreibt die reine Kommunikation, das Gegenwärtige. Ein Dialog entsteht, wenn zwei gegenseitige Pole aufeinander treffen und somit in Spannung geraten. Es ist nicht nur ein reiner Austausch von Informationen, sondern eine Kontemplation, eine Verzahnung verschiedener Positionen. Eine essentielle Voraussetzung für jeden Dialog ist jedoch auch eine verbindende Komponente, ein gemeinsamer Antrieb. Eine solche Verzahnung scheinbar unterschiedlicher Positionen wird durch die Dialogausstellung mit den Künstlern Harry Meyer und Woo Jong Taek offensichtlich. Kunst aus den unterschiedlichsten Kulturkreisen, verbunden durch die innere Haltung zur Ästhetik der beiden Künstler. Ein Austausch der Künstler ist über den direkten Weg kaum möglich, aber durch das jeweilige künstlerische Schaffen ist die wechselseitige Kontemplation erreichbar. Die Malerei als Mittel zur Überwindung weltlicher Grenzen, welche die Konzentration nicht auf Unterschiede, sondern auf die Gemeinsamkeiten zulässt.
Der deutsche Maler Harry Meyer (*1960 in Neumarkt) ist im Besonderen für seine expressiven Landschaftsmalereien bekannt, in denen er durch malerische Mittel die Essenz der Natur einzufangen versucht. Jedoch sind seine Bilder der Natur nicht mimetisch oder romantisch verklärt zu verstehen, sondern der Künstler bannt die Kräfte, welche in der Natur immanent verweilen und entstehen, auf Leinwand. In seinem Werkzyklus „Gipfelwelten“ widmet sich der Künstler dem Motiv des Berges und insbesondere dem Gipfel selbst. Die schiere Größe der Berge fängt der Künstler teilweise kleinformatig ein und
vermag es dennoch durch seinen pastosen Farbauftrag und dynamischen Pinselstrich die Erhabenheit der Berge nicht nur zu portraitieren, sondern atmosphärisch zum Ausdruck zu bringen. In sich gekehrt verweilen die Berge in einem dynamischen Farbenstrudel und zeigen die wahre Kraft unserer Natur.
Im direkten visuellen Gegensatz dazu, steht der südkoreanische Künstler Woo, Jong-Taek (*1973 in Yonging, Südkorea). Die Werke und ihre Darstellung entziehen sich der Gegenständlichkeit vollständig. Der expressive Strich des Künstlers, welcher sich eruptiv aus einem Moment des Zens entwickelt, lässt einen Einblick in einen längst vergangenen Moment zu. Die monochromen Werke der Werkserie „Memory of Origin“ zeigen die naturimmanenten Energien unserer Welt und die Kontemplation des Künstlers über die grundphilosophische Frage unseres Seins: den Ursprung allen Lebens. Der Künstler verbindet südkoreanische Kultur und Tradition der Zen-Malerei und Kalligrafie mit einem modernen Ausdruck.
Die Werke stehen sich in ihrer zunächst offensichtlichen Divergenz gegenüber, doch können bei genauerer Betrachtung Gemeinsamkeiten sowohl in der jeweiligen Philosophie als auch in der Malweise entdeckt werden.
Die Erhabenheit der Berge und die atmosphärisch gezeigte Erhabenheit von Harry Meyer, gehen einher mit der fast greifbaren Kontemplation der expressiven Zen-Malerei von Woo Jong Taek. Die unterschiedlichen Positionen greifen ineinander und öffnen den Blick des Betrachters für einen Diskurs zweier Kulturen.
