Welcome
Welcome to our 2021 addition of the Wild Game Dinner magazine! There’s been a lot happening in the world and we are delighted to be back. This year, we joined forces with Kendall County Jr. Livestock Association. We’ve supported this organization for years and love everything this group stands for. We share the same mission and support the same kids. It was a natural fit for us to join forces and KCWGD to fall under their organizational umbrella. This event is a joint opportunity to raise the stakes and support our area youth – more scholarships, grants, sale funds and capital improvements. Since we are part of KCJLA, the event will take place at the home of our annual stock show. The Kendall County Youth Ag & Equestrian Center located right off IH-10 between Comfort and Boerne. We’ll take advantage of the big covered area and place the entire event under one roof! As always, we’ll have the finest food out there. We are welcoming back every one of our cook teams from the past and adding in a few new ones! You’ll find the fan favorites from the past: Bacon Wrapped Quail and Nilgai, Fried Alligator and Axis, and Wild Game Pizza. We also have a few new items for you to try: Swiss Sausage, Hunter’s Paella and Wild Boar Chili Verde. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! If you’ve been to one of our dinners, you know this group can cook! I say it every year and still mean it… we serve the best food in the State! As always, we’ll throw a great party, have a ton of fun, cook some amazing food and raise a bunch of money for the kids! Please join us on November 6th at the Kendall County Youth Ag & Equestrian Center located at 648 FM 289, Comfort. Gates open at 4:00 pm and we will begin serving at 5:00 pm! Many Thanks,
Beca Short WGD Committee Chair KCJLA Director

JOINING FORCES
Stronger Together
T
The Kendall County Wild Game Dinner has joined forces with the Kendall County Junior Livestock Association, a partnership that the two organizations see as a natural fit. According to Chad Upham, KCJLA Board Past President “Both organizations felt it was beneficial to become affiliated because they were already aligned in numerous ways. A number of people in leadership serve both organizations, there are a significant number of volunteers and resources that are common among both organizations and most importantly the mission of the organizations significantly aligned. Both the KCWGD and KCJLA are focused on serving the youth of Kendall County and promoting education, agriculture and other activities.” Beca Short, KCWGD Committee Chair and KCJLA Director added, “We have the same mission and serve the same kids. Together we have the opportunity to increase our programs, scholarships and activities for them! The Wild Game Dinner is honored to now be a part of this long-standing organization.” Through a combined effort, this partnership will bring greater benefits to the kids of Kendall County. As a result, both organizations will be able to streamline their fundraising activities and focus all of their volunteer efforts and resources on two major functions a year - the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show and Sale in January and the Kendall County Wild Game Dinner the first weekend of November. “We believe that the ability to focus on those two major events each year, as opposed to a number of smaller fundraising efforts, will allow us to continue to grow both events while raising more money to benefit our local kids,” Upham added. In just the last two years, the two organizations have awarded thirty-five scholarships that totaled $76,500. “These organizations are all about helping our local kids. By working together, they can raise even more money for scholarships, grants, capital improvements and assistance with stock show projects,” said Short. “Just one example of this year’s grant funds being put to good use is that through funds raised we are sending two 4-H judging teams to Nationals in October. In the past, it was the responsibility of the kids to pay their own way.” This partnership and the ability of the two organizations to share leadership, volunteers and other resources will contribute to the mission of both the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show and the Wild Game Dinner. Upham added, “Again, the common goal and mission of these two organizations has and will always be to support the youth of Kendall County and the community. We hope the affiliation will continue to grow support for Kendall County youth and continue to produce productive citizens and leaders for the betterment of Kendall County, Texas and our great country.”

COOK TEAMS
THE KENDALL COUNTY WILD GAME DINNER COOK TEAMS SERVE UP
Food & Fun
E
Each year the Kendall County Wild Game Dinner draws a crowd of approximately 4,000 people! Folks come from near and far for the fun times and the GREAT FOOD. “Our cook teams are the backbone of this event,” said Beca Short, Chair of the Kendall County Wild Game Dinner. “We have over 20 cook teams, each made up of a host of friends and family. These volunteers devote their time and energy into preparing and cooking all the fabulous food that this Wild Game Dinner is known for.” The majority of the cook teams are not professionals, just friends of the Wild Game Dinner who just so happen to know how to cook and are kind enough to volunteer! Not only is the food delicious, there is plenty of it! The quantities put out by each cook team are impressive! We’re talking numbers like 200 pounds of bacon, 600 pounds of quail, 700 pounds of venison, and that is just the tip of the iceberg!
WHAT THE FORK COOK TEAM When Dennis Asher and the members of his What the Fork cook team say they have bigger fish to fry, they mean it! By the looks of these catfish they’ve been catching there is sure to be no shortage of their delicious fried fish at this year’s Wild Game Dinner! Asher, along with the help of his friends and family, has been busy catching these giant catfish on both the pole and on jug lines. “We have mainly been fishing Choke Canyon and have caught over 1,000 fish,” said Dennis. “In the past we were buying the fish, but fresh fish is always better so the folks attending the Wild Game Dinner this year are in for an even bigger treat. Our fish is always delicious, but the fresh fish are really gonna add something special.” The What the Fork cook team is made up of Dennis Asher, Jake Asher, Chuck Hickman, Wayne Zoeller, Willie Bernhard, Little Eddie, Corey Bernhard, Mike Trefzer and Brea Asher. “The whole team works hard cutting up all the fish, seasoning, coating them in our special mix and then frying them up to perfection,” Asher added. “We fried up approximately 150 pounds of catfish at the last Wild Game Dinner and it was all snapped up as soon as we could get it on the table. We look forward to this event year after year and can’t wait to get cooking!”

One of our beloved cook team leaders, David Hohmann, passed away in May of 2020. Hohmann was a vital part of the Kendall County Wild Game Dinner as he and his team from Hohmann Welding & Supply mastered the pit and served up the brisket tacos and beans year after year. David’s presence will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on at this year’s Wild Game Dinner as his family and friends carry on the tradition. pictured: David Hohmann manning the pit and cooking up all those briskets for the Wild Game Dinner ; KC Wild Game Dinner co-founders Karen Daly and Beca Shor t with David Hohmann.

They do this through their extensive local knowledge, understanding of local market dynamics, and ability to deliver top-tier customer service by listening, equipping, and empowering their clients to make informed buying and selling decisions. “Another quality that really sets our agents apart is experience in farming, ranching and/or agribusiness in the market areas they serve. This knowledge and expertise is invaluable to our clients,” Frasier added. LBG feels strongly that it is their job to know the latest market conditions, government regulations, and upcoming developments in Texas — so that you don't have to! Legacy Broker Group currently has sixteen agents across the state of Texas, with seven of them located locally here in the hill country. According to Frasier, “Using the latest technology, we have created the most complete and up-to-date listing service for all land and ranch properties in Texas. Through both

Their agents have extensive experience in these types of negotiations, making the process less stressful and overwhelming. A love of the land is something that runs deep within the good folks at Legacy Broker Group. They believe that purchasing land in Texas is one of the best ways to secure something truly valuable and build a legacy that will last for generations to come. “Whether for business or recreation, the land available in Texas is vast and varied. Famed for its large ranches, beautiful rolling hills, and natural resources. Texas is rich in opportunity for those with vision. Here at LBG we know the value of this, but we also see the benefits of instilling this love and appreciation of the land in future generations,” said Frasier, who was an educator for 32 years. “During my time as a school teacher at Boerne ISD I always appreciated the qualities that were instilled in the kids that were involved in 4-H, FFA and Agriculture Mechanics. These are skills and values that they can keep with them the rest of their lives. We applaud the Kendall County Junior Livestock Association and the Kendall County Wild Game Dinner for their support of these students and are proud to support these organizations. We know it is a good return on our investment.”

expanding the ag experience
“After many years of showing animals, and many years of never seeing a child with special needs enter the goat ring in Kendall County, I decided to reach out to our Boerne ISD special needs coordinator and see if there were any families that were interested in showing an animal,” said Caroline Holmes. “I was quickly put into contact with the Whitaker family, whose son Colton has PTSD and Down Syndrome. From our first day working together I understood that both Colton and myself would be presented with many challenges. However, now I know that the rewards of this experience far outweighed any difficulties we may have faced along the way.” After countless days of practice, many mock shows in Caroline’s yard and trips to the show barn to familiarize Colton with the sights, sounds and smells he would experience on show day, the day finally came and it was time for Caroline and Colton to enter the show ring. “Right before it was time to show his goat, Colton became all too aware that there were many eyes on him. He became upset and I was afraid he wasn’t going
20
WILD GAME DINNER | 2021
to go through with it. Thankfully, when the ring cadence called for him, Colton bravely grabbed the collar and walked his goat into the ring,” said Caroline. When it was time to sell his goat, the good folks at the KCJLA Sale rallied around Colton and Caroline. According to Caroline, “We raised a significant amount of money that year which allowed us to start a nonprofit organization, Show Partners, to allow other kids to be able to have the experience that Colton and I had.” “Watching the bond that was formed between Colton and Caroline was really special and we knew we needed to find a way to share this with others,” said Caroline’s mother, Jamie Holmes. Show Partners is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a board of adult directors and a board of carefully selected teen ambassadors. The organization helps to pair experienced showmen with disabled children in Kendall County, allowing other showmen to form their own unique bond with a child with special needs, give a wider variety
of children an opportunity to show an animal and participate in 4H, and to gradually bridge the gap between the stock show community and the special needs community. Within a year of founding Show Partners, the organization was able to successfully pair 13 disabled children, or Friends, with ten host families, all of which showed together at the Kendall County Junior Livestock Show. That number has grown and for the upcoming year there are now 16 Friends who will be participating. The organization is even starting a satellite program for Kerr County. “Our host families come back year after year,” said Colton’s mother, Jessica Whitaker. “It’s a major commitment to be a host family, but when these families experience how fulfilling it is to see their kids stretch beyond their comfort levels, while simultaneously witnessing the growth and achievements of our Friends, there is no denying that this is a truly special experience.” According to Jessica, “Through Show Partners we have seen remarkable improvements among our Friends. Some of the kids have picked up new speech or built muscles that even years of professional physical therapy has not been able to accomplish.” Show Partners helps with providing their Friends with animals, primarily goats, to show. When sale day rolls around, all of the proceeds are put into the Show Partners account and twenty percent is kept to cover the expense of animals and any reimbursements for the host families. The rest of the funds are then split evenly with all of the Friends to help them with the cost of special equipment or therapies they may need. Caroline added, “To anyone wishing to get involved, I would absolutely encourage them to do so. This experience has definitely changed my life
because
forever. However, I would ask that both the host family and the Friend’s family be prepared for consistent work with their animal, flexibility, and patience with one another and the animal. After all, Show Partners is not about placing well each time, but rather the learning experience from both parties and the growth achieved in the process of showing together.”

a favorite hunting cocktail This one is pretty simple. All you need is vodka, Bloody Mary mix (our favorite is Zing Zang), bacon (“duck bacon” would pair beautifully), and deer sticks or jerky strips. You can spruce it up further with celery, pickles, olives or the peppers of your choosing. Enjoy this as an appetizer while dinner is cooking. Just make sure to pour the chef one, too. Be sure to check out our silent auction item at this year’s KC Wild Game Dinner to make this drink at home...or the deer lease. RECIPE BY GRAND VIEW OUTDOORS

BBQ
COMFORT HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION BARBECUE TEAMS ARE
Fired Up!
I
It’s ten minutes til 5:00am and the buzz of generators fills the early morning air as students from all across the state start loading wood into smokers that range from kamado-style grills, think Big Green Egg, to rusty charcoal smokers. When the clock strikes 5:00 am, an iron triangle hit with a mallet signals that it is time for these young pitmasters to start their fires. The competition has begun! With fires lit in the smokers, the opening prayer completed and cuts of meat selected, the students get to work preparing their meat. This is the typical scene from the State High School BBQ Championship. Last year there were 61 teams who competed, transforming the parking lot at the John L. Kuykendall Event Center and Arena in Llano, Texas into an open-air competition cooking kitchen. The Comfort High School BBQ Teams have designated Team Captains. These kids have several barbecue competitions under their belt, know fire management, how to prepare various meats prior to cooking and how to present their entries for judging. They have earned the right to be Team Captain. Each of the other team members have various responsibilities, all working together to create their perfect meat, dessert and bean entries. According to the state contest rules, teams of up to five students prepare dessert, beans, chicken, pork ribs, and the king of Texas barbecue—beef brisket. Each category requires different cooking skills: dessert calls for an understanding of the chemistry of bak-
26
WILD GAME DINNER | 2021
ing, beans need a knowledge of flavor and seasoning, and brisket asks for fire-management skills and a hefty dose of patience. The judges who consist of local city council members, county commissioners, police officers, and others who reached out to volunteer when they hear a whole lot of barbecue is coming to town, rate each plate on appearance, smell, and taste. Winners are awarded prizes in each of the five food categories, but the coveted prize is the overall State High School BBQ Grand Champion, which comes with scholarship money for students to continue their food educations. Last year, The Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, a culinary school in Austin, awarded each member of the winning championship team a $5,000 scholarship and the HSBBQ Inc. also gave each teammate a $1,000 scholarship to the school of their choice. Comfort High School entered three BBQ Cooking Teams last year and expects to do the same again this year. Comfort placed 17th and had a third place Ribs, 4th place Beans, 7th place Chicken, and 29th Place Brisket. The Comfort High School BBQ Team was started six years ago when Comfort High School Agriculture Science teach, Ron Krobot, introduced his students to barbecue competitions. Krobot and a couple of Burnet High
School Agriscience Teachers, Brandon Evans and Joe Vann, and one Burnet High School Culinary Arts teacher, Mike Erickson had worked to host the first BBQ Cooking competition for High School students at Burnet High School. That first year Comfort High School had one team entered and ended up winning Top Grand Champion Pit from a barbecue pit the students had made in their Welding Classes. The first year, there were only a couple dozen of teams competing. After that year, the event has grown so much that Regional Qualifying Events now have to be held. Comfort has hosted the South Texas Regional for the past three years. “Students like coming to Ag Class each day, and especially on days when they are cooking some BBQ,” said Krobot. “The Comfort BBQ Teams are always looking to win that prized BBQ Contest, so the best part of the class is that students get to taste and evaluate their own cooking assignments.” Krobot recalls that their first competition was a complete disaster. “When it came time to take the brisket off of the pit, all of the team members were sleeping and brisket didn’t get taken off in time and was over done. The team members also cooked the way they would in a backyard setting,” he explained, “but cooking for a competition means the pitmasters have to pay close attention to timing, appearance and plating.” Realizing they needed professional help, Krobot enlisted the help of a veteran at professional BBQ cooking competitions, Mr. Rick Santos, to teach the students how to cook for sport. “We’ve come a long way since that very first competition,” said Krobot. The barbecue competitions provide high school students with another type of after-school activity. “Not all these kids are going to be athletes,” added Krobot. “I tell them these are skills they can use for the rest of their lives. It is something they will always be able to share with their friends and families.” Many of our cooking team members tell me that they’ve already taught their dads how to cook a brisket. Many of the students come to me with ‘Grandpa’s recipe for cooking the Brisket’ or ‘Grandma’s Bean Recipe’. I learn a lot as well. Working with kids doing something they
like to do is so rewarding. One of these days, I’ll decide to retire and this is one event that I’ll definitely miss.” Comfort BBQ Cooking teams cook several times throughout the year and have already started preparing for this year’s cooking season. Comfort HS has been invited to host a National BBQ Cooking Regional Event on Saturday, March 26th, 2022 and will again host the State of Texas South Texas Regional BBQ Cooking Competition on Friday, April 8th and Saturday, April 9th, 2022. The State High School BBQ Cooking Championship is scheduled for April 28-29, again in Llano, Texas. With so many high school students learning the best ways to smoke meat, the future of Texas barbecue looks bright, especially in Comfort, Texas!

Fishing
In a world of video games and cell phone scrolling it is more important than ever to get kids outside! The Boerne Bass Club and the Bass Club of Champions are two local clubs that are dedicated to helping local kids get involved in the sport of competitive fishing! Both local fishing clubs are associated with the Faith Angler Network, an organization that looks to build character one fish at a time. The Boerne Bass Club and the Bass Club of Champions are fairly similar in their goals and structure. Each club offers monthly meetings with guests speakers such as professional anglers, representatives from fishing gear companies and Texas game wardens. “The hope

is to give these kids the opportunity to learn about all aspects of fishing while fostering a network that is dedicated to sharing faith, fishing and friendship,” said Jed Mazour of the Boerne Bass Club. The Bass Club of Champions is made up of students from Champion High School, Voss and Boerne Middle School South in Boerne. The Boerne Bass Club is open to local students in six to twelfth grade. While primarily associated with Boerne High School and Boerne Middle School North, students that are home schooled, attend local private schools or nearby districts that don’t offer a fishing club are welcome to join. “We take these kids to tournaments all across the state to compete against other high schools. Some of the tournaments have 75-150 boats in the water, so the competition is pretty steep. The kids have the opportunity to win scholarships, fishing gear, trophies and even belt buckles. We are there to help them take it as far as they want to go,” Mazour added.

PROFILE
T
The Kendall County Wild Game Dinner is wildly popular for many reasons. The event is a fun time for a great cause, but what keeps folks coming back year after year is the fact that the food is fantastic! The cook teams for the event do an outstanding job at making good food and lots of it. But have you ever wondered where all of that wild game comes from? “We always say that the backbone of our event is the cook teams, but many of them couldn’t do what they do without all the work that Klein Smokehaus does before the cooking ever gets started,” said Beca Short, president of the Kendall County Wild Game Dinner. “Klein donates 100% of their services and has since the very first Wild Game Dinner!” It takes about 30-40 head of deer to get the amount of venison needed
48
The Next Generation of a Hill Country Tradition for the cook teams. The deer are donated by local hunters and dropped off at Klein Smokehaus to be processed. Klein will produce 100 pounds of marinated venison fajita meet, 150 pounds of venison cutlets, 100 pounds of axis stew meat, 800 venison sliders, assorted sausages and the bison sliders for this year’s Wild Game Dinner. That’s not all, they also handle the orders for the specialty meats such as the Nilgai and alligator, too. “The Wild Game Dinner is close to our heart. We like the event’s close connection to the community and their focus on the scholarships for kids involved and interested in agriculture, hunting, 4-H and FFA. All of that makes us happy to support and be a part of the Wild Game Dinner,” said Claire Klein. Klein Smokehaus was established in 2006 when Barret and Claire Klein purchased the popular Farmer’s Meat Market in Boerne, Texas. This year, a new generation will be taking the wheel. Barret and Claire’s son Clayton Klein, along with his friend and business partner, Colton Sells purchased the business in May of 2021 and are ready to sharpen the knives and take on the task. Clayton Klein, youngest son of Barret and Claire, grew up in the business, or quite literally in the meat locker. From a young age, after school and every weekend Clayton was hanging, skinning, grinding, and packaging deer. After graduating from Boerne High School, Clayton continued his baseball career at Seminole State and Galveston Colleges before finding his home at Texas A&M University in College Station Texas. Clayton graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, but found the knife handle fit better than a hammer and he returned to his roots at Klein Smokehaus to peruse his passion for smoking meat and working with hunters. Colton Sells, also a graduate from Texas A&M University, obtained a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in Meat Science. Colton, wife Beth, and three kids are

WILD GAME DINNER | 2021
excited to carry on a family business tradition. Colton’s work experience before taking on the business was with some great companies including Texas Meat Purveyors, J Bar B Foods, Harris Ranch Beef Company, and Hudson Sausage/Klein Smoked Meats. His career has taken him full circle as he has worked with the Klein Family for several years, but also allowed him to gain extensive experience and diversity in meat processing. Clayton and Colton, both Hill Country natives, bring new energy to the business but remain committed to producing smoked meats that even Oma and Opa would appreciate. Their history and knowledge with the business and processing sets them up to seamlessly continue producing the same traditional Hill Country products we all love. “Each year, Klein Smokehaus processes thousands of head of deer in addition to prepping and cooking hundreds of hams, turkeys, prime ribs, crown rib roasts and special cuts. Our outstanding smoked meats and sausages are made in small batches with fresh products and aromatic smoke from native oak hardwoods. It’s a big task but we are definitely up for the challenge,” said Colton. The Aggie co-owners also have energetic ideas for business growth and improvements. According to Clayton, “We plan to streamline the check-in process to make the experience more efficient and enjoyable. There are even talks of a possible kegerator and football on TV.” In the barbeque and meat market
front Klein and Sells are exploring options to expand the retail area and add a dining room, along with more options for fresh hand-cut meats and a place to cool your heels while enjoying the best barbeque in Boerne. Klein Smokehaus has won the Boerne Star’s Best of the Best Barbecue for thirteen years in a row! “Our shelves are stocked with pickled vegetables and relishes, salsas, marinades and rubs to perfectly season and complement our tasty meat selections. We try to carry unique, local selections not available at the big chain stores. All of our products are Go Texan,” added Colton. In addition to the vast selection of meat, Klein Smokehaus offers full meals to-go that include barbecue bundles, meat and cheese trays, ready to eat beef and chicken fajitas and even fresh hamburger patties. When it comes to Klein’s deer processing, the numbers are pretty impressive. Hunters drop off their deer, which are hung and put in the cooler as quickly as possible. “We have two coolers available for deer, the second of which holds 200 head,” added Clayton. Klein’s deer processing price list is available online. Products made from USDA Inspected Red Stag from New Zealand are also available for purchase should the hunters want a taste of the product prior to placing their order. Klein Smokehaus can turn your deer into backstrap medallions, bacon wrapped chopped steaks, hamburger ground venison or chili meat, and an array of smoked sausages, summer sausages,
links, snack sticks and jerky that you’ll be enjoying long after deer season is just a memory. Klein Smokehaus has been on Main Street Boerne for over six decades, and Clayton and Colton look forward to maintaining that small town feel. The guys added, “We want our customers to walk in and see familiar faces and a warm greeting. Stop in, swap a story or two, and enjoy the taste of this hill country tradition!” Stop by the Klein Smokehaus cook team at this year’s Kendall County Wild Game Dinner, grab some of their tasty wild boar queso and be sure to thank them for everything they do to make this event a success! It wouldn’t be possible without them!

ART
I
DENA SYZMAREK “I have found that I love all kinds of artistic media, drawing, painting, sculpting and scratchboard. I paint with oils and sculpt in clay that is produced in bronze. I also etch in an art medium that is called scratchboard,” said artist Dena Syzmarek. Scratchboard is where you scratch through an ink-covered clay board to reveal the white surface below. Dena can then paint different colors into the scratched areas with India ink. “I love to show detail in each of these mediums, especially when I am depicting animals. My love of wildlife is apparent at home where we have raised both domestic and exotic animals. We have everything from cats, dogs and birds to impala, wildebeests and zebras, just to name a few. My inspiration is all around me and it keeps me following my dream,” said Syzmarek. Dena was born in Reno, Nevada but considers herself a Texas girl since she has lived most of her life in the greater San Antonio area, with the past 35 years in the Boerne area. She and her husband Paul now live in Boerne at the ranch called “El Rancho Not So Grande.”

Search out that unique angle, find that special curve, and direct the eye to capture intense emotion and acheive that special connection that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. As an award winning artist, known for both his Equine Portrait Series - “Alure of the Horse” and Wildlife Portrait Series, alongside his series dedicated to the World of Heritage Site San Antonio Missions, Bill offers a wide range of subjects. From Country Backroads to Scenic Landscapes and even a few surprises along the way, his hope is to offer artwork reflective of his own vision while evoking reflection, and possibly even a smile, as you drift back in time.
BILL SCHEIDT Bill Scheidt creates many of his paintings from his personal experiences as a hunter, farrier and the ranch life of his earlier years. His portrayals of wildlife in their natural surroundings engaging in their activities without human interventions, are the product of his many ventures throughout the Western United States. Light and color are critical in his work, in their relationship to each other throughout the piece. These elements seem to strike the viewers eye and then hold their attention to the story.
MORGAN HAMPTON Morgan Hampton’s college education in architectural engineering and industrial design led, after graduation from Texas Tech to Ling Temco Vought in Dallas where he was an aerospace division technical illustrator. Due to the nature of his work, he began development of his artistic realism style. Ultimately his professional career took him from Texas to assignments in New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California thus allowing him an opportunity to experience the scenic beauty of the southwest U.S. and as a result to further develop his interest in art and continue his drawing and painting style. Today, his prefered mediums include pencil, pen and ink, watercolor and acrylics. His subject matter focus is primarily centered on ranch life, hill country communities and coastal scenery. His work has been exhibited in Arizona, The Lodge in Cloudcroft, NM, the San Antonio River Art Gallery, Rainbird Gallery in Blanco,Texas,The Art Gallery in Wimberley, TX and in Boerne at Texas Treasures River South Gallery and various Boerne businesses and the Yellow Rose Gallery in Rockport, TX. Morgan serves on the Board of the Hill Country Council for the Arts and is the founder of Morgan Hampton Arts in Fair Oaks Ranch.

WILD GAME DINNER | 2021

Dena discovered her passion for art during her high school years when she started sketching cartoon figures and sculpting in clay. It was an enjoyment for her to see how close she could copy the original piece. However, she put aside her art while she managed three family-owned businesses and raised her four daughters. Gladly, Dena was able to rekindle her interest in art after she took a painting class in Arizona. Since then she has taken painting classes and workshops from
nationally acclaimed artists such as Jeffrey Watts, Carolyn Anderson, Larry Prellop, Nancy Bush, Sally Maxwell, Jay Hester, Sidney Sinclair, Bill Scheidt and Linda Sioux Henley. Her thanks go to each one of these fine artists, each of whom has taught her something of value that steered her along the way to fulfilling her dream of becoming a fine artist. Szymarek currently exhibits her work at The Carriage House Gallery in Boerne and the Helotes Gallery.
