The Jones Christmas Ranch features over 3.5 million synchronized light in their drive through display. This is a passion project for the Jones family, which includes Mike, Mandy, Micah and Mykala. They have been doing a light display to music for 16 years and every year the display had become larger…as did the traffic in their neighborhood! Once the family was featured on ABC's Great Christmas Light Fight show, the traffic grew significantly! The Jones family knew it was either Go BIG or Go Home, so in 2022 they sold
their "forever home" and bought this 32 acre property that used to be a private school in order to be able to continue to bring joy to the local community. The Joneses always loved giving back to the community and those in need, so when the new property had a full gymnasium, they decided to start a nonprofit called Shine Bright Ministries. In their first year they were able to serve over 600 women & children's homes and help make their CHRISTmas a little brighter!
This year they have over 13 private Christmas Celebrations scheduled for local shelters & will serve approximately 700 kiddos!! At least 10% of the profits are given to SBM and the space is open to any non-profit that could use it during the year.
The Jones family hopes you feel God's love for you while driving through the lights and appreciates the support of their customers so they can continue to do this for years to come!

B School News
Boerne Independent School District is proud to announce that Rich Sena, a long-time member of the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees, has been elected to a one-year term on the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors. Sena will represent TASB Region 20, Position D. The election took place during the TASB 2024 Delegate Assembly on September 28 in San Antonio.
Since his election to the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees in 2014, Sena has been a dedicated advocate for public education, serving on numerous committees and in various officer positions, including president, vice-president, and secretary. He is currently serving on the Facilities and Budget Committees, while also chairing the Legislative Advocacy Committee.
A 2019 graduate of Leadership TASB and a Master Trustee, Sena brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role on the TASB Board of Directors. His leadership and dedication to the Boerne community make him an invaluable asset to both the district and TASB.
Sena’s educational background includes a degree in political science and international relations from Colgate University. He spent over 20 years in advertising sales, eventually overseeing operations in eight sales offices as vice president of sales and marketing. In 2004, Sena launched his own insurance agency, specializing in health insurance for small businesses.
In addition to his service on the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees, Sena is active in several local organizations, including Hill Country Daily Bread, the
Stand By Me Mentoring Program, the Hill Country Mission for Health, the Boerne Chamber of Commerce, Boerne Sunrise Rotary, and the Kendall County Republican Club. Boerne ISD congratulates Rich Sena on his election and looks forward to his continued service to both the district and the state of Texas in this new leadership role.
BBoerne ISD theatre programs hosted their fourth annual Thriller in the Park community service event at the Champion High School football stadium. Nearly 500 students decked out in zombie makeup and costumes gathered to perform the city's largest-ever synchronized Thriller dance and musical performances for a good cause - collecting food for local families in need.
Commitment to Service is one of Boerne ISD’s Core Values, and the annual event brings students from the District’s middle and high schools together to use their art to serve and enrich their community. Attended by over 1,000 family and friends, the Thriller in the Park event solicits donations of canned goods as admission cost for the massive performance. Over 1,200 lbs. of non-perishable food was donated to Hill Country Family Services and will directly benefit Kendall County families.
Bryce Boddie, Senior Director of Behavioral Health at Hill Country
Family Services, greeted the crowd, saying, "We really appreciate it! We have a food pantry in town, and we provide case management services for families and individuals in crisis and counseling services. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Ken Peach, BISD Fine Arts Coordinator said, “This type of service project only strengthens our belief that you learn more than just acting or memorizing lines in theatre, you learn about supporting your community. Thank you teachers, parents and students for a wonderful collaboration. Each year we host this event, it reminds our students that building that sense of community is important.”
Despite being rained-out in 2023, this is the fourth time BISD theatre programs have collaborated on this event. Initially held in the Boerne town square, it was later moved to the Patrick Heath Public Library Amphitheatre. BISD Theatre programs and public interest in the event have since outgrown both venues.

Did you know that neglecting to clean your dryer vent can lead to devastating fires? Each year, thousands of homes are affected by dryer-related fires, primarily caused by lint buildup in the venting system. It's crucial to understand thatproper maintenance of your dryer is not just a matter of efficiency; it's a matter of safety.
The Facts:
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), failure to clean the dryer vent is the leading cause of home dryer fires.
Lint can accumulate in the dryer vent and duct, blocking airflow and causing the dryer to overheat. In addition to cleaning the lint trap after every load, homeowners should also clean the entire dryer vent path at least once a year.
How You Can Help:
1. Schedule Regular Maintenance:Hire a professional to inspect and clean your dryer vent system annually.
2. Know the Signs: Be aware of warning signs such as clothes taking longer to dry, a burning smell, or the dryer feeling unusually hot.
3. Educate Others: Share this information with friends and family. Awareness is key to prevention.
4. Join Us in Our Awareness Campaign: We invite community members, local businesses, and organizations to participate in our campaign aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of dryer maintenance. Together, we can reduce the risk of fires and keep our families and homes safe.

WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT TO Shop Local
TThe holiday season is a time when people express their appreciation and love for one another through giving gifts. While online shopping and big retail chains may seem convenient, it is crucial to recognize the significance of shopping local during this festive time. Here are just a few of the many reasons why supporting our local shoppes is so important:
STRENGTHENING LOCAL ECONOMY:
Shopping at local businesses directly invests in the local economy, helping it thrive and grow. Unlike big retail chains, local businesses are more likely to spend their earnings within the community, contributing to job creation and overall economic stability. By supporting local vendors, we can provide a significant boost to our local economy during the holiday season.
UNIQUE AND PERSONALIZED GIFTS:
Local businesses often offer a wide range of unique and personalized gift options that cannot be found elsewhere. From local artisans and boutique stores to specialized food markets, shopping local allows us to discover one-of-a-kind gifts that carry a special
touch and reflect the distinct character of our community. These gifts not only enhance the holiday experience, but also make the recipient feel valued and appreciated.
PRESERVING COMMUNITY IDENTITY:
Local businesses play a vital role in preserving the distinctive identity and charm of our community. They contribute to its cultural fabric, providing a sense of place and uniqueness that big chains often lack. By patronizing local businesses, we contribute to maintaining the vibrant and diverse character of our community, making it a more attractive and desirable place to live and visit.
BUILDING PERSONAL CONNECTIONS:
When shopping at local businesses, significant opportunities arise to meet and interact with the people behind the products. Local store owners and employees often possess a wealth of knowledge about their merchandise, allowing for personalized recommendations and helpful advice. This personal touch fosters a sense of community, enhances the shopping experience, and builds lasting connections between customers and local businesses.

First Families of Kendall County
Leo Nesselhauf 1855 – 1937
Sponsored by the Genealogical Society of Kendall County (GSKC), The First Families of Kendall County project began in 1999. The purpose of this project is to recognize the living descendants of persons instrumental in founding and settling of the area encompassed by present day Kendall County, Texas and to preserve the history of their families and the county.
To date, 586 applications have been approved for 318 different individuals. One hundred seventy (170) Founders and one hundred four (104) Early Settlers have been documented and recognized. They represent one hundred thirty-five (135) different families in Kendall County. There are two hundred sixty-two (262) volumes of First Families notebooks on the shelves at the Family History Place.
Here we will share with you some of the stories of those First Families who settled this beautiful area of the Texas hill country. We hope you enjoy!
Louisa Baumann 1862 - 1950
by James Hurst
IIt was a stamped metal trade token that spurred amateur historian Bryden Moon to track down Kendall County's early settler, Leo Nesselhauf (Noesselhauf). A local artist/historian, Betty Edmonds, briefly summarized Leo Nesselhauf's family in Rivers, Ranches, Railroads and Recreation, a History of Kendall County in 1984. Betty recorded that Leo was born in Genabach, Germany, about 1857, migrated to America in 1880, settled in Boerne, married Louise Baumann in 1889, and made his living as a shoemaker.
The trade token, discovered in some old family belongings by an Austin-area lady, was good for a two-and-a-half-cent trade discount at Leo's shoemaker shop. Since it had L Noesselhauf's Boerne stamped on it, she asked Bryden if he knew anything about L. Noesselhauf. Bryden checked with his usual sources and struck out. Then the lady upped the ante by offering to give him the token if he could find out about it. About this time, one of his local sources, Kate-Skinner Klee, returned to Boerne from a trip to Guatemala. Kate had done extensive work transcribing old county probate records and told him she had found a Louise

Nesselhauf nee Baumann mentioned in a probate record for Mathias Baumann. The probate record got Bryden back on the hunt, and he wrote an excellent article about Leo Nesselhauf which appeared in GSKC's journal, Keys to the Past, Volume 40, Number 2.
Leo arrived in New York from Germany aboard the ship Labrador on July 20, 1882, at the age of twenty-nine. He first appeared in Kendall County in the 1886 tax records, where he paid his poll tax. Bryden thinks he was most likely working for the railroad. His arrival corresponded to the arrival of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad's expansion from San Antonio into the Hill Country. There are two railroad bridges on the spur from San Antonio. The first, which crossed the Cibolo, was completed allowing the tracks to reach Boerne by March 12, 1887. Next, they installed a major bridge over the Guadalupe between Welfare and Comfort, and the railroad tracks arrived in Comfort later that same year. In 1900, he listed his occupation as a Bridgeman for the railroad.
On October 5, 1889, Leo married Louise Baumann, the youngest daughter of Boerne founder Mathias Baumann, who had a blacksmith shop on Main Street and owned several other lots in town. The 1890 Texas Gazetteer listed Leo as
a shoemaker, and he was also working for the Post Office Department, where he was compensated $143 for "Mail Messenger Service" in 1890. Leo's grandson, Howard Nesselhauf, remembers his father Felix sharing that Leo "always went up to the railroad station to get the mail – took his old wagon – the horses knew the way." In September 1890, Leo and Louise welcomed their first child, Rudolph. Leo purchased the house pictured here in 1898, and it still stands in the 200 block
of South Main, at the corner of Main and James Streets. The picture, likely taken in 1901, features Louise, Rudolph, and her second child, Felix, born in July 1899. Louise was probably expecting her third child, Helen, born in October 1901. The family lived in the house until 1903 when Leo sold it to Ludwig Ort and moved to a 3.7-acre lot south of Cibolo Creek in the Dietert subdivision. The home was on the western corner of Bandera Road and Schweppe Street.
In December 1906, Leo sold his property to William Kuhlmann, packed up the family, and left Texas for Arkansas to work for the railroad. By 1910, the family was back in Texas, living at 703 Westfall Ave in San Antonio's 7th Ward. Louise's sister, Phillipine, was living with her stonemason husband, James Quinn, in the same Ward, which may have influenced their choice of residence.
Leo was not working in 1910, but Rudolph worked as a carpenter. In 1920, the family was in the same house. Leo was doing odd jobs; Rudolph was still building homes, and Felix was an automobile mechanic. Between 1920 and 1930, the family moved a few blocks southwest
to Drexel Ave. Leo was 75 years old and worked for the City Parks Department. Rudolph was 38, had been married and divorced during that time, and was still building houses. Felix was 30, still single, and continued to work as a mechanic. Helen was 28, single, and did not have any occupation listed. The family lived there a few years, but by 1935 they had moved to 335 Bailey in the same Ward, about a mile from the house on Westfall. Leo died Christmas Day, 1937, and was buried in Mission Park South in San Antonio. The family continued to live on Bailey, and sometime around 1947, Felix married and moved to a house at 322 Bailey. Louise died on March 24, 1950, just weeks before the 1950 census. She was buried beside Leo in Mission Park South.
BBoerne Performing Arts will cease operations after a Grand Finale Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 12, 2024. The cumulative impact of COVID-19, a sluggish economy marked by high inflation, and lagging ticket sales, made continuing its volunteer, donor-based organization financially unsustainable.
Boerne Performing Arts thanks its many corporate sponsors, individual donors and community partners who enabled Boerne Performing Arts’ mission of “bringing the world of performing arts to Boerne by presenting concerts that feature internationally acclaimed artists, educating through student outreach programs, and enriching the quality of life in the community”. We especially would like to thank Boerne Independent School District and the staff of Boerne Champion High School for allowing us to host our performances in their first-class auditorium and facilities and for their unwavering support since the beginning.
It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year to join The Four Phantoms for a joyous holiday celebration.
