I
I think it is safe to say we were all ready to give 2020 a big ol’ ADIOS!! While there is no guarantee that 2021 will be better, there is always hope and optimism that comes with the new year. This past year has changed so much about the way we live, interact and function in our day to day lives. Here’s to a new start and not accepting this new normal, but instead, regaining what we’ve lost and coming out even better on the other side! As we enter into a new year we often find ourselves wanting to clean, organize and purge our homes and offices of the clutter that we have accumulated over the past year. While some of us are naturally gifted in this department, others of us (I’m in this group!!) are definitely NOT. Turn to page 8 to learn more about Sort It Out, Professional Organizing Solutions, who are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this month! Give Esmi and her team a call if you need some help getting your spaces in order. This time of year often has people looking to toss out those bad habits and
embrace a healthier lifestyle. Check out the tips from Ideal Health Boerne on page 20. If you need a little extra help or someone to keep you accountable be sure to give Traci a call! How about your finances? Could you benefit from creating some financial resolutions for the new year? Turn to page 27 for some great tips for developing healthy financial habits in 2021!

The organizing craze is on! With many people working from home these days, the home improvement business is at an all-time high along with home organizing! Shows like The Home Edit and books from Marie Kondo have the popularity of organizing sky rocketing. Local business, Sort It Out is celebrating their 10-year anniversary this month. Esmi Gonzalez, Professional Organizer and Owner, first read about the organizing industry in 2011 when she came

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZING SOLUTIONS L O C A L B U S I N E S S C E L E B R AT I N G 1 0 Y E A R S across an in-flight magazine article featuring a Professional Organizer in Dallas. “I had never heard of the industry and after reading the article I thought, this is so me!” Gonzalez said. After many hours of researching the industry she decided to get certified and opened her doors 10 years ago. “I must say it was tough at first. The organizing industry was not very popular in Texas let alone in San Antonio and the surrounding area,” added Gonzalez. But with her marketing background she decided to hire a public relations firm who pitched the organizing industry and Sort It Out to several local magazines. Word spread and Gonzalez was off to a good start. Her business has grown every year since, making her one of the busiest organizing companies in the area. It is a known fact clutter causes stress and anxiety and loss of time. The average person spends 54 hours a year looking for lost items such as car keys, paperwork or a dog leash. Being organized helps save time and money. People tend to purchase items they already have because the same item is placed in multiple locations throughout the house. A Professional Organizer helps bring order and simplicity to the lives of people they work with by setting up organizing systems that make sense for them. These systems are based on the client’s daily habits and weekly routines, basically their lifestyle.

Sort It Out offers many services; decluttering and paring down then setting up organizing systems that work for that client. They can organize one room, two rooms or the entire house. This includes storage units which many Professional Organizers find to be a waste of money unless the rental is short term. Gonzalez and her team will take an inventory of items and create a booklet with an itemize description list, dimensions of furniture and photos of items. Packing, unpacking and organizing a new home is one of her most popular services. Helping seniors pare down before downsizing into their new home. A couple of services that are really in demand these past few months due to the pandemic is setting up school stations and office stations in a home. They can drop off donation items for you to the charity of your choice. They provide shopping services for those clients too busy to shop or just prefer not to. Their services are endless, Sort It Out can do as little or as much as a client wishes. BBM

DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR
New, local Prime Texas Meat Company started from a need that they felt wasn’t being met within the cattle ranching industry. This past spring/summer there was a nationwide shortage of beef available to consumers, and yet there were plenty of ranchers with available cattle. There needed to be a better way to provide the consumer with a more direct purchasing route to the ranchers; a simpler way for customers to not only get high-quality meat but to support local, Texas ranchers while doing it. With that in mind, Prime Texas Meat Co. was formed. The Stumberg family comes from a long line of Texas ranchers and knows the importance of properly caring for both the livestock and the land it was raised on. That being said, it was important to them that the meat chosen for Prime Texas Meat Co.

be sourced from Texas ranches with the highest commitment to raising their cattle in a safe and humane way. All of their products are free of added hormones and antibiotics. The black Angus cattle are pasture raised, grass fed and grain finished prior to processing. They then go directly from the ranch to a USDA certified butcher, bypassing the large commercial process. The beef is then aged for a minimum of 21 days. This entire process results in meat that is not only healthy for you, but full of tenderness, marbling and exceptional flavors. Knowing where your food comes from is becoming increasingly important these days as well. This knowledge helps bridge the gap between farm (or ranch) to table, allowing people to understand, appreciate and respect all that goes into what they are eating. In addition, knowing what has or has not been fed or injected into the meat you are eating is of equal importance. You can feel good knowing that the cattle selected for all of Prime Texas Meat Company’s product lines is USDA certified to be free of added hormones and antibiotics. They believe that knowing what you are eating matters, from the genetics of the livestock to how it was raised, handled, packaged and shipped – every detail counts. Prime Texas Meat Co. currently offers their Premium Texas Beef line, which is chosen from the very top Choice graded cattle.

Shop individual cuts or one of their Carefully Crafted Packages for an artful assortment of fine beef. The packages come in all shapes and sizes and range from a fun Prime Texas Steak Sampler where you can try a variety of steaks to find your favorite all the way up to the gigantic Big Tex package that will certainly fill your freezer! Coming by this February will be their Signature Prime Collection. This will include a selection of USDA Prime Graded steaks including T-Bones, Top Sirloins, Tomahawk Ribeyes, New York Strips, Filet Mignons and Boneless Ribeyes. Prime is the highest quality beef classified by the USDA, with only about two percent of all the beef graded qualifying for the Prime distinction. Each steak offers abundant marbling that results in some of the most tender and flavorful beef available. Marbling is the amount of intramuscular fat that the meat contains. The meat offered in all of Prime Texas Meat Co.’s initial product lines is Certified Angus Beef, which are known to develop with better marbling than many other breeds of cattle. Also in the works for the company is the addition of other meat products such as lobster tails, chicken, pork and lamb, as well as a line of custom seasonings! LESSONS FROM 2020
2020 changed how we pretty much do everything. How we do business is just one of the many things that has been drastically altered during this past year. For many small businesses, surviving meant that they had to be creative and flexible, willing to make changes in order to meet the needs of their customers. Here are just a few of the lessons small business owners learned in order to stay afloat! PREPARE FOR THE UNEXPECTED Nobody ever expected what 2020 threw at us! And ever since it all began, the environment has been one of constant uncertainty. While it may seem impossible to plan for unexpected events, this past year has taught us the importance of being prepared for whatever comes our way! Doing your best to make sure your everyday operations are running smoothly is a good place to start. Next imagine if you knew now how Covid would impact your business what you might do differently to prepare. Think about what parts of your business were impacted the most by recent events and work to strengthen those. Shoring up the weak areas of your business will make it that much stronger should something else unexpected occur. DON’T BE SCARED TO TRY NEW THINGS Adaptation is key to small business survival! When things get tough you must be able to step outside of your comfort zone to learn new skills or offer new products and services. For many, 2020 meant taking their brick and mortar business online or exploring new and creative ways to do business.
TELL YOUR STORY This past year, small businesses headed online and took to social media more than ever to sell their products and services. While the internet offers a great way to get your company in front of millions of people, it also offers unlimited competition. Small business owners had to figure out how to tell their story, and set their brand apart. One way they did this was to make their message more personal and let their customers see what was happening behind the scenes. Customers want to support local, small businesses and especially when they feel a personal connection. Getting personal with your customers will win them over every time! Get Healthy in 2021
By the end of 2020 Ideal Health Boerne helped locals to be over SEVEN THOUSAND pounds healthier since they opened their doors. This spring will mark their two-year anniversary and they couldn’t be more proud of what their clients have accomplished. The have set their goals even higher for 2021 and are looking forward to their best year yet! Here are some helpful tips from Ideal Health Boerne to help you get on track for a healthy new year:
She’s high tech, I’m old school... We’re both happy at Sonora Bank. BOERNE EAST 1570 River Road 830-331-8300 BOERNE WEST 122 West Bandera 830-331-9118
DRINK UP! Drink water, we recommend a minimum of 64oz a day. However, if you are highly active or trying to lose weight we recommend 100-120oz a day. GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST. Shoot for 6-8 hours a day when possible. Using an eye pillow or weighted blanket to help with restlessness is a biggie! It will help you relax and keep you rested. STAY ACTIVE. We’re not talking hours at the gym, but go for a brisk walk or try to squeeze in activity when you can. Ideal Health Boerne recommends 120 minutes a week in whatever combination works for you – ten minutes here or there or break it up in to larger chunks. PLAN AHEAD. Whether it be meal prep for the week or just having your dinners planned out ahead of time, if you have a plan you are more likely to stick to it! Ideal Health Boerne suggests that even when not dieting to use at least one meal replacement a day. Everyone typically eats at least one meal a day “on the go” and that can mean upwards of 1,000 calories at a drive through! Replacing that “on the go” meal with a high quality shake like the ones from MoxiFit can bring that down to 120 calories with 20g of protein! If you are ready to look and feel your best everyday, Ideal Health Boerne can show you the steps to ensure your success! Give us a call to be on your way to a healthier lifestyle! BBM

On Saturday, December 12, members of Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club, in conjunction with Rotary Interact members of The Winston School of San Antonio distributed Christmas gifts with Santa’s help along with a Christmas turkey dinner and trimmings to residents and children of Shady Rest trailer park in South Boerne. David Dunne, president of Boerne Sunrise Rotary stated, “This is one of Boerne Sunrise Rotary’s key community events which has taken place for over 21 years. We were gratified by the response from the Shady Rest community.” Boerne Sunrise Rotary provided an early morning taco breakfast courtesy of Mama Margie’s of San Antonio for all the residents while the students and families of Winston School procured and distributed toys to each Shady Rest child. Some 90 children and 33 families were present for the event. The event was held outdoors in the Shady Rest park so social distancing, masking and other COVID -19 protocols could be followed.BBM

The Cottage Door Now Offering Elaine Brennan Skin Renewal Peeling System
L
The Cottage Door
Local boutique skincare spa, The Cottage Door, is pleased to announce it is now offering the world-renowned Elaine Brennan Skin Renewal Peeling System. “This peel offers some of the most dramatic results that I have ever seen from a peel. I am very excited to be able to offer this to my clients,” said Claudia Heyne, owner of The Cottage Door. The Elaine Brennan Skin Renewal Peeling System achieves a true skin rejuvenation resulting in dramatic improvement in ones skin texture, elasticity and skin tone. “One of the great things about this peel is that it is both extremely effective and safe and can be applied on all skin types. Another fantastic thing about it is that it is one of the only peels that can also be applied to the eyelids,” Heyne added. According the creators of the EB peel, their Skin Renewal Peeling is a deep, reliable exfoliation of the skin with no destruction of the living layers. It helps the rapid removal of several of the top dead cell layers and unlike many peeling treatments, does not remove even one layer of the epidermis. Only part of the dead, damaged surface skin cells are exfoliated in a thin crusty layer. Other treatments, may remove entire dead cell layers and go beyond into the living cell layers which can be affected and destroyed. Each of the EB peeling treatments in fact restores the skin, stimulating regrowth and the basal cells. Many skin layers are rejuvenated and thickened by the reaction triggered off by this peeling. According to Claudia, “This particular peel is recommended as a treatment for many skin concerns. It is a treatment for

aging skin, acne, pigmentation problems, blemishes, freckles, sun damaged skin, enlarged pores and the list goes on! What’s even better is that the effects of the process continue for up to one year as the collagen and elastin formation take place over time.” While the Elaine Brennan Skin Renewal Peeling offers outstanding results, it does require a bit of downtime. Be prepared to hide out for about five days while you shed your unwanted skin following the application. There are two applications that are 24 hours apart. Immediately following the first application the skin will be red, but not unsightly. The third day is when the peel begins to darken the skin on the face and it takes on a dark brownish tint and the face and neck will become very tight. Day 4 the tight skin will begin to crack and peel and continue to do so until about Day 7 when Claudia will remove any remaining skin. The entire peeling is safe and controlled and the skin is never raw as the client is not allowed to remove the skin. Doing so may cause skin to peel off that is not ready and damage the skin. “Once the peeling is finished, the client has a brand new, glowing, smooth and youthful complexion. The new skin will of course be sensitive and sunblock must be worn for protection,” said Heyne. “I never do anything on my clients that I wouldn’t do to myself. That being said, I applied the peel to my skin as soon as I completed my training and went through the whole process. It is an amazing peel that truly does offer incredible results!”

Time for New Year’s Financial Resolutions
M
article courtesy of Edward Jones
Many of us probably felt that 2020 lasted a very long time. But now that 2021 is here, we can make a fresh start – and one way to do that is to make some New Year’s resolutions. Of course, you can make these resolutions for all parts of your life – physical, emotional, intellectual – but have you ever considered some financial resolutions? Here are a few such resolutions to consider: DON’T OVERREACT TO EVENTS.When the coronavirus pandemic hit in mid-February, the financial markets took a big hit. Many people, convinced that we were in for a prolonged slump, decided to take a “time out” and headed to the investment sidelines. But it didn’t take long for the markets to rally, rewarding those patient investors who stayed the course. Nothing is a certainty in the investment world, but the events of 2020 followed a familiar historical pattern: major crisis followed by market drop followed by strong recovery. The lesson for investors? Don’t overreact to today’s news – because tomorrow may look quite different. BE PREPARED. At the beginning of 2020, nobody was anticipating a worldwide pandemic and its terrible consequences, both to individuals’ health and to their economic well-being. None of us can foretell the future, either, but we can be prepared, and one way to do so is by building an emergency fund. Ideally, such a fund should be kept in liquid, low-risk vehicles and contain at least six months’ worth of living expenses. FOCUS ON MOVES YOU CAN CONTROL. In response to pandemic-related economic pressures, some employers cut their matching contributions to 401(k) plans in 2020. Will some future event cause another such reduction? No one knows – and even if it happens, there’s probably nothing you can do about
it. Instead of worrying about things you can’t control, focus on those you can. When it comes to your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan, put in as much as you can afford this year, and if your salary goes up, increase your contribution. RECOGNIZE YOUR ABILITY TO BUILD SAVINGS. During the pandemic, the personal savings rate shot up, hitting a record of 33% in April, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economy Analysis. It fell over the next several months, but still remained about twice as high as the rate of the past few years. Of course, much of this surge in Americans’ proclivity to save money was due to our lack of options for spending it, as the coronavirus caused either complete or partial shutdowns in physical retail establishments, as well as dining and entertainment venues. But if you did manage to boost your own personal savings when your spending was constrained, is it possible to remain a good saver when restrictions are lifted? Probably. And the greater your savings, the greater your financial freedoms – including the freedom to invest and freedom from excessive debt. When we reach a post-pandemic world, see if you can continue saving more than you did in previous years – and use your savings wisely. These aren’t the only financial resolutions you can make – but following them may help you develop habits that could benefit you in 2021 and beyond.BBM

HCCARTS STOCKING STUFFER PROGRAM
T
The Hill Country Council for the Arts (HCCArts) partnered with local businesses to give a little brighter Christmas to the local ladies at the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center. They filled 110 Christmas Stockings, one for each of the moms at the Boerne and Comfort locations. The stockings were filled with bath bombs and costume jewelry, coupons, and personal care products. Something special, for the moms who always put others first. According to the HCCArts, “We wanted them to know that they were special too.” They would like to thank all of their supporters, the Cibolo Creek Quilters Guild for hand-making all the stockings,

and their sponsors: Kendall County Roofing, Vintage Reconstruction, Suzann Woodward, CPA, Penguin Suits Advertising Agency, Holt and Holt Funeral Home, Majestic Ranch, Bluebonnet Realty, Great Clips, Punkin Butt, Dream Image Tree & Landscape Service, Boerne Community Theatre, The Lobby Coffee Shop, The Comfort News, Maridean Jones, Bonnie Walshe, Susan Van Court, Georgia Davis, Kelly Skovbjerg, Karen Ragsdale, and Dress for Success San Antonio. “It is wonderful to see all the businesses pull together for such a great gift at this Christmas Season!” A special thank you to Olivia Jimenez at Dress for Success San Antonio. They receive donations throughout the year from their worldwide office. They had an overabundance of products and graciously donated them to HCCArts for the stocking stuffer program. “We want these wonderful ladies to have a bright and cheerful little Christmas,” added HCCArts. The staff at the HCPCC center were very excited to receive the 110 filled and bagged stockings. The organization had such a great response from the community that HCCArts is going to make the Stocking Stuffer Program an annual
Event. If you are interested in participating next year, they can always use your help. For additional information refer to https://www.hccarts.org/en/ partners/help-stocking-stuffer. Cash donations are welcomed and are tax deductible. Cibolo Creek Quilters Guild is a community of quilters and fiber artists who gather for friendship, sewing, and developing creative sewing techniques. They promote and advance the art of quilting by exchanging ideas on all aspects of quilting, as well as supporting the community with charitable quilts, service projects and events. HCCArts supports the arts in the Texas Hill Country. The programs include performance arts, education, public arts, visual arts, literary arts, and business and the arts. The focus is to enhance community awareness, develop opportunities for involvement, encourage individual and corporate financial support, and develop a long-range plan for promoting the growth of the Arts within the nineteen Hill Country counties. HCCArts is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization that has been nationally recognized as a regional Business Committee for the Arts under the Americans for the Arts. WHO IS TODAY'S SELLER, BUYER? TEXAS REALTORS SHARES INSIGHTS
Texas Realtors has released its 2020 Texas Homebuyers and Sellers Report, which examines details about real estate consumers’ income, ethnicity, age, and perceptions of the homebuying and selling processes. More than half of Texas homebuyers said finding the right property was the most difficult part of the homebuying process. One-fifth of Texas homebuyers stated their primary reason for purchasing was the desire to own a home of their own. For those who bought newly built homes (24 percent), the top reason for doing so was to avoid renovations or plumbing and electrical problems. Buyers who purchased previously owned homes mentioned value and charm as their primary motivating factors. The median age of Texas homebuyers was 52, five years older than last year. Nearly one-third of all buyers were firsttime buyers. The typical homebuyer spent eight weeks searching for a home, viewing nine houses in the process. Texas buyers had a median household income of $95,500. The majority of them (92 percent) purchased single-family homes. The majority of Texas homebuyers (67 percent) were married couples, followed by single females at 17 percent, single males at 10 percent, and unmarried couples at 5 percent. White buyers made up the largest share of Texas homebuyers. About 14 percent of homebuyers identified as Hispanic, with 5 percent black. The most popular reason for putting a home on the market was to move closer to friends or family, followed by job relocations and proximity to work. Sellers spent a median of 12 years in their homes. The median sales price was $64,050 higher than what they paid for their homes. Homes stayed on the market for a median of four weeks. Data from the 2020 report are derived from the 2019 Texas Profile of Homebuyers and Sellers by the National Association of Realtors.
