Why It’s Important To Drink Water?
You may remember your health class teacher telling you, way back when, to drink eight glasses of water a day. But do you know why? When considering water intake, it’s important that people remind themselves of why. When we understand why we need to drink more water, we are more likely to act. There are several reasons why uid (speci cally, water) intake is important. These include, prevention of infections, such as those in the urinary tract (especially in older adults); it helps get rid of waste through urination and sweat; it reduces muscle fatigue (especially for those who are active); it improves skin appearance; it aids with bowel movements; and it prevents headaches (which can lead to a di cult day). It’s important that we respect and listen to what our body needs. We are the managers of our body and our organs are the employees, treat them well and they’ll treat you well back.
Of course, you’ve probably heard about adding lemon to your water before, Drew Barrymore and other celebs do it, too, and there are many health bene ts. Lemons have been shown to help detoxify the liver, and the liver is where we either convert hormones, such as thyroid T4 to T3. It helps us to excrete excess hormones, such as estrogen, which can lead to weight gain and sleep and mood issues if it builds up. Plus, it can help keep your skin clear and stave o bad breath. A pinch of Himalayan or sea salt can also help. It promotes better hydration and electrolyte balance, which is important for hormone and bodily functions. The magnesium, sodium, and potassium in the salt nourishes the adrenal glands. These largely produce cortisol and the DHEA hormone, and contribute to the production of adrenaline, estrogen and other hormones, as well.
And why warm water? Warm, or room temperature water aids in the absorption of the lemon and salt nutrients into the
body. It also promotes digestive function and bowel movements, which is how we excrete toxins that can impact hormone balance or excess hormones themselves. There are bene ts to drinking water in the morning. It may aid with weight management, cognitive function, especially if something like an exam is coming up, and mental health, avoiding symptoms such as headaches, which may a ect an individual’s frame of mind.
When it comes to how much water to drink each day, how much is enough?
The general recommendations advise is dividing your weight (in pounds) in half to determine total ounces per day, various factors also a ect the body’s needs. This includes age, physical activity level (duration and types), chronic diseases (such as heart and renal failure), and even acute illness that may include fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. Although the general calculations can be used as a start, it’s vital that people listen to their bodies, too. They are designed to survive.
Think about the last time you felt dehydrated, how did it start? You may have developed a headache or dry lips, that’s our body’s way of letting us know we need to drink uids. Signs of dehydration begin at about 5% of body uid loss. It’s bene cial to drink water throughout the day to continue hydrating your body. That said, for individuals who may have gastrointestinal issues or a history of gastric bypass surgeries, they may bene t from drinking uids before and after meals to aid with uid intake and limit possible discomfort.
And if you’re worried you’re not drinking enough water each day, an easy way to make sure you always have some with you is by getting a water bottle handbag, you’ll not only up your health game, but it’s a cute fashion accessory, too. And you’ll have no excuses as to why you’re not drinking enough H2O!

What exactly does gender identity mean? What is biological sex vs. gender? And how do gender identity and sexuality relate?
Genitalia does not equal gender. The sex characteristics a person is born with do not signify a person’s gender identity. When people have ‘gender reveal parties,’ it really should be called a ‘genital reveal party,’. The concept of gender really is a social construct.
Forget about the two-gender binary. Gender is a term that relates to how we feel about ourselves, the way we choose to express our gender through makeup, dresses, high heels, athletic shorts, sneakers, and more. Our society has convinced us that there are just two options for gender identity, “male” and “female,” based on biological sex. But in reality, there’s more uidity.
Gender identity is on a continuum. It’s not just the male/female gender binary, there’s a spectrum of gender identity. Most people lie in between the binary, with personality traits that relate to gender identity, expression, and biological sex. Gender identity can change over time, and it is not necessarily xed. Just because you identify one way at one point in time, does not mean you will always choose that identity, or that your identity won’t shift and evolve.
Sexuality and gender identity are not the same thing. Gender identity is how you feel about yourself and the ways you express your gender and biological sex. Meanwhile, sexuality refers to who you are emotionally, physically, romantically, or sexually attracted to. In summary, gender is how you feel about yourself, while sexuality is how you feel about others.
Gender identity and the spectrum
A person’s gender identity is not restricted to being either a man or a woman. Some people do not identify with any gender, while others identify with multiple genders.
A person’s gender can consist of the following....
G ENDER IDENTIT Y
This term refers to the personal sense of an individual’s own gender.
Some people identify as a man, while others identify as a woman. Others may identify as neither, both, or somewhere in-between.
G ENDER EX P RESSION AND P RESENTATION
This refers to how a person expresses themselves to others and how they want the world to see them.
A person may present themselves as wholly masculine or wholly feminine. Or, a person may present themselves as androgynous or nonbinary.
Gender expression and presentation involve aspects such as mannerisms, clothing styles, names, and pronoun choices, to name a few.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
by: Dr. Charla Waxman BS, MBA, EdD
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Can Really Help CBT is a fairly short term treatment that is a type of talk therapy proven to make an impact on a variety of mental health conditions. The tools taught in CBT create increased awareness and techniques for the user to better understand how thoughts can cause behaviors and how changing one’s thinking can change behaviors and solve problems.
Here’s an overview of CBT: As stated above, CBT identi es that the way that we think will determine both how we feel and how we act. Thinking is a BIG in uencer. Remember that and you just about have this whole CBT thing licked. Well, maybe it is not quite that simple, but you de nitely are moving forward if you focus on your thinking and thought patterns.
Now, you are probably are already realizing that thinking about things in a negative way might lead to emotions that will not drive you toward successful behaviors and interactions with others. People who manage themselves highlighting the foundation of CBT will learn how to automatically look for the reframe; nding the positive way to think about stu : people, their intentions, your job or just things that have happened to you. Once you have conquered the “reframe”, you will have a skill for life that will change many things. It will change your outlook,
your stress level and you may even nd that people are drawn to you and your positivity.
The way you approach CBT will depend on what you want to accomplish. Know that, even armed with the incredible information here in this article (nice reframe), you can probably use a therapist (ask if they know CBT techniques) to help get you started and moving in the right CBT direction. When you meet with your therapist share any speci c problems that seem to make you feel stuck or particularly unhappy and negative when you try problem solving around them. Think about any role models who may have provided some negative thinking patterns and share that with your therapist, too. Find the thinking that has been unproductive for you and created unhelpful patterns in your thinking, emotions and behaviors.
Babysteps!! Have your therapist practice reframing simple concepts. Remember all new behaviors need practice to become second nature. Don’t get frustrated. Success takes time. Break those big problems into small problems and solve them that way. Again, journaling may help you see just what you can do when you are not focusing on the worst that can happen. Be patient. Change takes time.
Your therapist is probably going to help you re ne your approach to change. You will be exploring your patterns of thinking. For instance, are you a catastrophizer? Are you always assuming that whatever happens, it will be the worst-possible-outcome?

Get it? These kinds of assumptions cannot create a positive outcome. They just can’t.
Your therapist may ask you to walk through some scenarios to help you develop your CBT skills. You may also want to follow the best case scenario path even if it is uncomfortable and seems unrealistic for you. Take a situation. Look at what can happen, and predict a positive ending. You may have to journal this so you don’t fall into negative thinking and so you can see in writing where you may be struggling.
Spend time talking to your therapist about people, places, and situations that invoke anxiety and fear. This may be scary, but getting some support in nding your “coping sweet spot” can only make things better for you in the future.
Be honest with your progress. Keep procrastination away by letting your supportive friends and family know what you are trying to do. Give them permission to help you reframe negative thoughts and overgeneralizations.
If you have engaged in therapy as suggested here, no doubt you will be o ered some training on stress and relaxation. Even your health club may be able to share some meditation ideas and classes. Best advice, just try it!
After practicing for a time (and every person is di erent), you may be ready to set some goals. This writer really likes the IDEAL method for problem solving and the SMART method. Both are easy to remember and are perfect for journaling.
Identify what you want to change. This is your chance to brainstorm! No idea is wrong or too weird.
Decide who can help, identify supportive people early on. No one has to solve problems alone.
Evaluate/eliminate ideas that are not the best match for you.
Act on it! Ready, set, go! Give it your best shot.
Learn from what happened. Spend time examining the outcome, but don’t beat yourself up. Move on.
SMART goals are:
CBT has documented success and putting your e orts into CBT can help with emotions you may have tried to avoid, that seemed overwhelming, or the skills you needed to cope were not within your grasp. It can also help you manage many levels of trauma and grief and many levels of communication. Anything that requires coping tools and techniques can be helped with CBT. Whether it is a mental health condition or a physical ailment, utilize CBT. It is like easy- access thinking skills at your ngertips. It might be just what you were looking for, so give it a try.

Provincetown
by: Joey Amato
I think it’s safe to say that I found my new happy place. I had visited Provincetown, Massachusetts once before during the winter season and even then, I enjoyed my time there. Of course, P-Town is much slower during the colder months than it was during my most recent visit, but I still enjoyed the small-town charm of this iconic coastal destination.
Provincetown is one of the most LGBTQ-friendly destinations in the country, if not the world. From the moment you arrive by ferry or by car, you are quickly transported into a rainbow oasis which makes it seems as if you are on an island where you are free to express yourself in any way you please.
ferry from Boston, I checked in to the Foxberry Inn, a beautiful property located less than a mile from the heart of P-Town. Most of the destination is walkable, but biking is also common if you prefer. The sta at Foxberry Inn was lovely and quite attractive, which is always an added bonus. My corner room came complete with a water view as well as a separate seating area and balcony to enjoy some morning co ee.
Each morning the sta prepared a delicious hot breakfast, which is included in the price of the room. The breakfast burrito was de nitely my favorite and possibly one of the best I’ve ever had in recent memory. Every afternoon, guests are welcome to enjoy freshly baked cookies and a hot beverage if they desire in the common area.
One of Provincetown’s most famous attractions is not a physical attraction, it’s a dance. More speci cally, a tea-dance. The concept of a tea-dance began in New York in the 1960s. Gay men would meet at o -the-beaten path locations around New York City on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy tea, as it was illegal to serve

alcohol to people known to be gay. How times have changed!
These tea-dances quickly spread around the country and today, the weekly tea-dances held at Boatslip Resort have become legendary. The waterfront property features a large outdoor deck plus an indoor section with multiple bars and plenty of room for dancing. The drinks are a bit more expensive than I am used to coming from the Midwest, but the pours were heavy, so it balanced out. My guest Michael and I sipped our cocktails while grooving to the sounds of Sylvester, Donna Summer, and Chic. The people watching alone was worth the visit.
After the dance, walk over to Liz’s Café, just a few blocks away. The quaint restaurant gives o an island resort vibe and the food didn’t disappoint either. We both began our meal with the ceviche containing a variety of fresh sh served with homemade tortilla chips and followed that up with the pan seared cod prepared in a mouthwatering broth.
If you are in the mood for some after dinner drinks and entertainment, head to Provincetown Brewery Co. or the Post O ce Café & Cabaret for the Anita Cocktail Variety Hour. Hosted of course by nonother than Anita Cocktail, the hour-long show also features performances by cast members Jona Williams, Abby Cummings, and Raquel Blake. My favorite part of the show was when Anita Cocktail sang live, something I rarely see drag performers do.
Keep the party going at Atlantic House, or A-House as the locals call it. This is the only dance club which operates for the entire year as some establishments shut down during the winter months. The complex consists of di erent rooms including Little Bar, The Macho Bar, Provincetown’s original leather bar as well as the Big Room where people go to dance.
Wake up early the next morning and head to Boy Beach, which is located close to the Foxberry Inn or jump on Art’s Dune Tours to explore the Cape Cod National Seashore. Access to this area is seasonal and only authorized vehicles are allowed to operate in the park.

Provincetown
The company, now in its 76th year in business, brings guests through the rolling dunes to various picturesque vantage points. Spend the afternoon strolling around the town and exploring the dozens of boutiques and art galleries along Commercial Street. A bit further away is the Provincetown Art Association & Museum, a space housing a collection of works by artists from the Cape. The organization was originally established in 1914 so it’s a great place to learn about the cultural history of this destination.
If you are in the mood for some exercise, journey to the top of The Pilgrim Monument, a 252-foot structure built to commemorate the Pilgrims’ rst landing. Since many of the properties in the town don’t o er tness centers on property, visitors can purchase a day pass and workout with the locals at Mussel Beach Health Club or Provincetown Gym.
P-Town is home to under 4,000 full-time residents, however this number swells to over 60,000 during the peak summer months. If you aren’t a fan of huge crowds, I would recommend visiting during the shoulder season. This may also be a more budget-friendly time to travel as daily room prices tend to decrease.
For your nal dinner in Provincetown, go to Café Heaven and begin your meal with their delicious Lobstertini made with lobster salad served atop an avocado and tomato salad tossed in a citrus vinaigrette. This was one of my favorite culinary treats of this vacation as the vinaigrette complimented the sweetness of the lobster perfectly. Michael and I decided to share the Provincetown Bouillabaisse for our main entrée. It tasted similar to a classic bouillabaisse, with the exception of linguica which is a nod to P-Town’s Portuguese heritage.
Provincetown is an all-in-one destination, meaning there is something for everyone. Whether you choose to party or just relax on the beach, you will nd your tribe in P-Town.
Enjoy the Journey!

The Metaverse is now a topic of conversation. There’s currently a lot of hype and potentially a bit too much hype in particular on the decentralization web3 aspect of the Metaverse with NFTs. Aside from this overhype, we believe there’s real potential in web3 and the Metaverse, that will enable new bene cial experiences not just for consumers but also for corporations with their own branded Corporate Metaverse spaces. Another interesting avor is the Real-World Metaverse, the AR Cloud, essentially a Digital Twin of our world, a digital content layer that is persisted and mapped to real objects and locations in the physical world. Virtual content can be anchored in the realworld, shared cross-platform, between platforms and over time.
assets are needed. Thanks to 3D AI models, these assets could potentially be synthesized from text input, imager or re ned based on rough 3D scans from user’s mobile phones. It doesn’t stop there and market researchers are also seeing potential for industries like manufacturing, healthcare, life sciences, automotive, material science, entertainment, media, aerospace, defense and energy.
It’s just the beginning of the Metaverse with the puzzle pieces of AI, Spatial Computing and decentralized protocols like blockchain becoming mature enough.
Generative AI (Arti cial Intelligence) will play an important role in the Metaverse where large catalogs of
Homomorphic Encryption is de antly a tech trend that’s hard to ignore. Cyberattacks are increasing, even for AI security in the cloud and on the edge and it is important that companies start to apply Zero Trust models and become more proactive for cybersecurity threats. As a result of increased cybercriminal activity, data theft and general data privacy considerations data privacy regulations are also increasing. GDPR for example has strong regulations when it comes to data privacy and data processing. Data processing is being outsourced more and more which comes with strict regulations when client data is being handed over to a third party data processor. The best option would be to use encrypted data so that external processors don’t know the content, but of course, that counteracts the purpose of the processing.
Homomorphic Encryption is a solution to that problem as it can perform computations and analytics directly on the encrypted data without having

With the growing demand of data processing and strong privacy laws, the need is there and analysts believe future SaaS o erings will leverage Homomorphic Encryption as a core technology. This is also not just a futuristic vision but has already been implemented today, for example, by leveraging the Microsoft Azure SEAL open source library that enables certain arithmetic computation directly on encrypted data.
since 2015. In 2022, we are going to expand our Quantum footprint (more to come) and we will also continue the Quantum knowledge sharing with QuBites, our video podcast series where expert guests are interviewed to make the topic approachable for everyone. Season 3 had a partial focus on Quantum Security since in the next 5 to 30 years experts expect we will see Q-Day happen, the day when Quantum Computers are powerful enough to make today’s encryption algorithms obsolete (the basis of our security and privacy). The time is now for business leaders to prepare their (security) infrastructure for that with resilient Zero Trust models and crypto agility.
Many have been talking about Quantum Computing and Quantum Machine Learning for quite some time now, but we are just at the beginning with tremendous breakthroughs predicted for the coming years on both the software side and the hardware side, with new Quantum computer expected to have 433 Qubits by the end of 2022 and breaking the 1000 barrier with 1121 qubits in 2023. Analysts are also seeing that use cases are getting real already and the progress is just going to increase exponentially in the coming years, continuing the activity and investments in quantum computing that are sky-rocketing
Currently we are publishing QuBites season 4 where we talk with a few experts in Quantum Machine Learning (QML), a rather new and promising discipline that is showing quite some bene ts already, even with the Quantum hardware infancy today it can already outpace classical Machine Learning. In the below episode for example, I talked with Johannes about QML for image classi cation and the surprisingly good results that he got with a hybrid model approach.
We believe 2022 will be another good year for digital transformation based on our industry knowledge and analyst’s market research. We will see lots of new emerging technology trends become mature and new ones on the rise. Regardless of what technology, all of these will have an impact on everyone and transform how we live in this modern hybrid work environment.
