COACHING COORDINATOR’S REPORT Mr. Lionel Brown

This season the coaching panel conducted three National Referees Accreditation Scheme courses at the Lakemba Services Club. Two of these courses were conducted in March, with a total of six candidates completing the training. There was also a third course conducted in June, with three out of four candidates completing the training. These courses are theory based first of all and then move to on field coaching conducted by Panel supervisors and field coaches. School boy candidates are developed by Tony Danks and Doug Keen through the NRAS high school program and candidates are then passed on to the districts for further development. Joe Attard from the CBRA Coaching Panel has assisted with a number of these courses. In February and October each year, Barry Ruttle conducts NRAS Level 2 courses over two days. Canterbury at present has three candidates moving through this Level 2 accreditation process. Course Level 2 1 1 1

The Safe Play Code, was highlighted through this season, it identified that all parties in our game need to develop a much greater understanding of the content and the implementation of this code. New team coaches must be exposed to the laws of the game and codes that are attached to the laws. The re introduction of this must be started at the team coaches accreditation course at the beginning of each season. Referees must also ensure that they follow through with these laws and codes, the referee is the font of knowledge on the field and they must keep a breast of this manner.
