Access to the HSMC Library

Individual Library Induction

The HSMC Library is located at the Health Services Management Centre, Park House, 40 Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham B15 2RT.

The Library team are happy to provide you with one to one training on using the HSMC Library, or the Main library catalogue on the University Campus, please phone 0121 414 3672 or email hsmclibrary@contacts.bham.ac.uk/ to book a training session.

The ground floor of the building is accessible by wheelchair users, but if you experience difficulties in accessing the building, the HSMC library team are always glad to assist in any way they can. The main entrance of the HSMC Building is easy to access. There is one parking space available for users with disabilities adjacent to the main entrance. For security reasons the main entrance is always locked. There is an intercom to the right of the door, which will be answered by reception staff who will be pleased to arrange for a member of the library team to assist you. Alternatively, you can phone the Library on 0121 414 3672 /7060, or email the Library staff at hsmclibrary@contacts.bham.ac.uk before setting off, and arrange to be met at the main entrance. If you need assistance on leaving the building, please ask the library team so that they can arrange for you to be guided to the exit.

Using the Online Library Catalogue & Book Fetching Service If it is difficult for you to use the library’s catalogue, or, if finding materials on the shelf proves to be a problem, please ask a member of the library team who will be happy to assist you. It would be of great assistance if you can let us know in advance what material you would like to see, so that we can arrange to have it to hand when you arrive. You can do this by either phoning 0121 414 3672 or email: hsmc-library@contacts.bham.ac.uk Loans You are allowed to take out 6 items from HSMC library. All material can be loaned for 3 weeks, and you will be allowed to renew your books three more times as long as no one has reserved them. Photocopier

Toilets Toilet facilities for mobility-impaired users are provided on the ground floor, they can be reached by coming through the main door and turning left by the library, following the signs. Please note that this toilet is based within the female toilet area. Summer 2010

There is a photocopier in the library, which you can use. Please ask the library team if you need any assistance with photocopying.


IT Facilities There is an IT resource room within Park House which contains 11 PC’s, including one PC for disabled access, along with a networked printer. Library & IT Services: The services offered by Library Services and IT Services to users with disabilities include the following: Book fetching Extended loans Help with, for example, the catalogue and photocopying Stock transfer Assistive software in IT Services computer clusters Assistive Technology Booths Support from the Assistive Technology Officer Order copies of Library Services publications in alternative formats. Other Libraries on Campus In addition to the Main Library, the University Library Services has separate libraries for a number of specific subject areas. These libraries vary greatly in ease of access for users with disabilities so it is advisable to contact staff in these libraries before you visit.
