Fighting out of his native Campina Grande, Paraiba, Brazil, Silva was a veteran of the UFC heavyweight division, having picked up victories over Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne, while also beating Fedor Emelianenko and Ricco Rodriguez on other MMA promotions on his way to compiling a 19-12 professional MMA record. Silva has won heavyweight titles for EliteXC, Cage Rage and Cage Warriors and has faced top fighters including Daniel Cormier, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum. Originally from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and now fighting out of Ludlow, Massachusetts, Gonzaga had a long and successful UFC run that began with wins in his first four UFC bouts. After losses to Randy Coutoure and Fabricio Werdum, Gonzaga stuck for years as a solid contender at heavyweight. He fell in bouts against Stipe Miocic, Matt Mitrione and Junior Dos Santos, but still compiled an overall MMA record of 17-12. www.instagram.com/bareknucklefc/ on YouTube at www.youtube.com/ channel/UCEeMsInLdrUbIkbEcNm7g-A and on Facebook: www.facebook.com/ bareknucklefc.

There is a huge secret that you may not know of, located in beautiful Ft. Myers, Florida. Haus of Trikes and Bikes is your absolutely one-stop shop for bike repair, rental bikes, new and used motorcycles, and their specialty – building trikes. I spent a wonderful afternoon with owner Manfred Glanzner and sales consultant Mike Tinneny. Both gentlemen are very intelligent professionals that love what they do at Haus of Trikes and Bikes!
Manfred shared with me why he started this business. “I started Haus of Trikes and Bikes in 2000. As you can imagine at this point, everyone was laughing at my trike business. When I went to Daytona, people were like ‘What the hell is that?’ Long story short, this picture has changed. This is the fastest growing industry over the last couple of years. In addition, trike sales are growing whereas motorcycle 2-wheel sales are falling nearly 20%. Because we are strong believers in trikes, in 2005 we added motorcycles to our business. Today we are selling ATVs, UTVs, and side-by-side vehicles.” From day one, they totally specialized in trikes. They have also excelled in custom builds, choppers, and unique fabrication projects. Haus of Trikes and Bikes was also dealers for Big Dog Choppers and Big BearChoppers. Because of the diversified programs that they had, they survived the hard years in 2007-2008 when the market crash happened. “A lot of bike dealers went out of business during that crash. We never lost focus on the trikes and were able to stay in business.”
BTR 16 | BORNTORIDE.COM
Manfred’s business is absolutely unique, with many different levels of expertise and skill. “I am from Germany and always came to Florida for vacation. I wanted to do something here in Florida after one of my friends moved here. I was always a motorcycle guy. In Germany, we were used to riding trikes. In 1999 when my buddy and I went to a local dealer to ask if we could rent a trike, the guy behind the desk looked at me like I was from another planet! At this point I went to the Germany trike dealer called Boom Trikes and asked them if we could start a distribution business for trikes here in the USA.” Haus of Trikes is one of the largest trike conversion company’s in Florida. “I grew up with trike companies like Motor Trike, California Sidecar, Hannigan, and Road Smith. We all met each other on the manufacturing/distributionside because I did shows with my trikes and these guys tried to push the conversion trike market. They knew me from day one as a manufacturer and importer and that I already had an established shop. That’s when I became I dealer for them.”
Manfred went through all the trainings at these manufacturer’s factories. “We are all trained, got certified, and became specialized trike technicians since day 1. We are deeply rooted in the trike business which I am very proud of.” In general, many folks that want to own/ride a trike don’t know
Born To Ride Magazine, Real Editorial Content, Real Value every month for you the Reader
much about them other than they want one. And because we offer so many different Trike Kit Manufacturers, we take our time with every customer to find out what he or she is looking for. “All of our kits are independent suspension, air ride, rake kits, etc. We have at least 6-8 different kits for Honda Goldwings and 4-5 kits for a Harley Motorcycles,as well as for Indians, Kawasaki, Yamaha and even for Scooters. I have different set ups where I can make this trike special for you. You don’t have options when you purchase a stock, manufactured trike, other than letting the sales person know what color you want.” Mike mentioned that they have 11 trike kits on order at this time!
Selling and building trikes is something that Manfred and his staff do on a daily basis. What’s special, in addition to their knowledge and vast experience, is they also work building trikes for folks that have disabilities. “We can make a trike specific to the needs of the customer. If, for example, they can’t use the foot shifter, we can install an electric hand shifter. Or if you need a bracket for a wheelchair, our fabrication shop can build that as well. We are not limited on what we can or can’t do! For example, we are building a scooter with a side car! The customer wants to travel with his dog. You can’t take your scooter to any dealer out there and say build me a side car for my scooter!” Manfred and his team put the concepts and ideas to paper then they make sure that those ideas produce
a road-worthy, safe and secure vehicle. Besides regular trike conversion builds, they also buy new and used motorcycles and trike them so that there are trikes ready to go from the sales floor. Manfred added, “At any one time, there are at least 20 trikes on the floor.” Haus of Trikes and Bikes is also the dealership for Royal Enfield motorcycles, too! Manfred shared, “What many people don’t realize is that Royal Enfield motorcycles started their company back in 1901. This is the oldest and largest production company in the world. When times were tough, this company never went out of business. Last year, they sold over 800,000 motorcycles! These days, younger people don’t have the large budgets to step out and purchase a $20,000 bike. He or she wants a commuter bike to ride back and forth to school or to work. Starting at $4,500, you can get a beautiful Enfield that will be the talk of the local bike night due to its classic 50s look. It also comes with ABS, road-side assistance, 3-year warranty, and still half the price of similar.” When you come to visit Manfred and his staff at Haus of Trikes and Bikes, you will be amazed at the beautiful 30,000 sq. ft. building housing all the trikes, bikes, clothing, fabrication shop, repair shop, and more! This is the only independent dealership, non-franchise two story showroom in the area. Manfred and his business partner, Herbert Baum, have been longtime friends. Herbert is another motor-head who loves this business as much as Manfred.
The good news today is that Haus of Trikes and Bikes are opening up a NEW showroom and shop in Sarasota! “Our new facility is 15,000 sq. ft. There will be a fully loaded service area for regular motorcycle
BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 17
service, tire changes, motor work, etc. The big builds will still be located in our Ft. Myers location because we are completely set up for that.” The doors will be open sometime in November and a HUGE Grand Opening Party will happen in December! (Stay tuned to Born To Ride for that update!) Manfred is a hands-on shop owner, I still build trikes on my own as well. I have 14 lifts in the shop. We are so busy that I need to step in and help out with all the orders that are coming in. I train my mechanics, one-on-one. I make sure that the knowledge is never leaving the company.” Manfred is at his shop every day!
Why Born To Ride? “Number one, I need regional coverage and advertising. There isn’t a lot out there. We do a lot of stuff for our community, the Veterans, and various charities. I’m sure there are some out there reading this article that feel they will never ride again. Some Veteran organizations even help out financially with trike builds. Getting the word out about what we do and all that we can help with is very important to us.”
Thank you, Manfred and Mike, for a great conversation about Haus of Trikes and Bikes and sharing your superb story with the readers of Born To Ride Magazine! Susan Hurst

There will be a super huge Halloween Party at Haus of Trikes and Bikes on Saturday, October 26! “We call this party, Haus-O-Ween Halloween Party. There will be live music, free beer, free food, bikini bike wash, motorcycle stunt show, and a costume contest at 1:00p, where there will be cash prizes up to $500! In addition, there will be a year-end store wide blow out sale!”
Haus of Trikes and Bikes will be set up at the Speedway during Biketoberfest! “I will be running the motor-trike show on the Speedway.” Stop by and let Manfred know that you read about him and his business in Born To Ride Magazine! Last thoughts? “We have mechanics that repair Honda, Kawasaki, BMW, Suzuki, we have fabricator guys, and the old-school Harley dudes. We are booked solid for weeks. There is a reason why people come here. No one build trikes around here the way we build trikes. I’m also building Indian trikes for several Indian Dealerships in Florida with California Sidecar and Motortrike Kits.

Relics Retreats, A Collision of Dreams
©
Dedicated to Clint
Years ago, I awakened from a dream knowing that my pursuit for happiness would in part be wrapped within writing. Who knew that this pathway would give me so much in the creation of a family who wanted nothing more than to love me. To this day my life is fueled with words that leap off the page for my children and those I hold near and dear to my heart. It is through writing that I have been given the privilege to elevate those who take the time to read my work. From subtle to direct the underlying premise is to follow your dreams because you can make them your reality. And in doing so, you realize that this is God’s plan too. So here it goes, let me take you on a ride to parts unknown. It starts with a place called Relics Retreats. A 30-acre paradise nestled within the wooded forest and along the babbling banks of Grave Creek and
outside of Eureka, Montana, this unique find offers a piece of paradise for the discerning type. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine a silence that comes over you where you can feel the presence of minds and spirits through the air. It’s a place where you can touch the untouchable and dance the “cerebral tango” with a special someone even if they physically aren’t with you. Relics Retreats offers a place of contemplation in the magnificence of true raw beauty in an undeniably well-engineered creation like no other. It is a place where time and space are insignificant distractions against the dramatic backdrop of intense peace and awareness. Imagine the possibilities if you truly let yourself embrace it. Here is where dreams become reality. I met Danny of Baja Moto Tours through happy coincidence when we were both

on a path to live out our dreams. Who knew that our shared dreams would live on so many years later with friendship and respect. It all started with a project in Baja, Mexico and from there, Danny’s dream has successfully grown. For the past 20 years, I have been living out my passion for writing while thousands of miles away Danny was on the same path pursuing his dream to offer guided motorcycle tours in Baja Mexico and Montana USA. Add another being to the story, and I introduce Willow, whose early start in alternative medicine, years of charitable work, and the love of motorcycles, created the platform to manifest two dreams, Relics Retreats, and The Mount Marston Biker Rally. If that wasn’t enough, let’s introduce someone else to the mix. German entrepreneur, certified motorcycle tour guide, BMW instructor and trainer, Arndt started BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 41
living his dream more than 10 years ago to create a motorcycle resort. So, what’s the connection you ask? Read on, but what I can say it is a beautiful collision of circumstances. My editorial “Baja. Life. Death.” was published in HOG magazine and in several other publications in 2013. Around the same time, Danny and Arndt met sharing their passion for motorcycle touring. Willow met Danny and Arndt later and the three conspired to reach out and ask me to review Relics Retreats. Do you see how life has effortlessly orchestrated us all to meet by the sheer force of the pursuit of dreams? It’s like a domino effect with the multiplicity of powerful connection. There is another very important dimension to this story underpinned by the annual Mount Marston Biker Rally i.e. MMBR (#83-4142578) which raises funds for veterans. The profits go to BTR 42 | BORNTORIDE.COM
The next day we rode about ~140 miles in the surrounding mountains near Glacier Park through Yak, Trego, Wolfe Prairie, Libby etc…
Braach Shepherds 4 Veterans Inc 501c3 (#83-2446928) led by Pamela. The organization honors veterans who suffer from PTSD. They train dogs as emotional support and suicide prevention companions for qualified veterans who participate in the training. Imagine that this phenomenal venture is fully supported by donations, and Jerry’s Saloon is where the rally begins and ends. It is the meeting place for minds and hearts that ride their bikes in appreciation of
heroes who have supported our community and country without being asked. … After riding across the vast landscape, we returned to the retreat center to enjoy a catered dinner before meditation in the “Maa” sauna. The sauna is built inground, reminiscent of Finnish tradition and heated by a wood fire. With temperatures reaching 230+ degrees, Willow ceremonially laid scented ice on the rocks as I readied for the “heatwave.” It is a ritual where a towel is wrapped and then forcefully “fanned” emitting massive ambient hot air in your direction from about two feet away. The air is so incredibly hot and intensely humid it feels ice-cold for a few seconds. Most can handle only about three blows, but I was left asking for much more. Ten strikes later, I was filled with complete existential awareness. Right after, you submit your body to an icecold shower using water from 200’+ in the
ground. The experience was a breakthrough of spiritual healing and awareness I will never forget. The next day we rode about ~140 miles in the surrounding mountains near Glacier Park through Yak, Trego, Wolfe Prairie, Libby, etc. … Serpentine roads with breathtaking landscape offered a feast for the eyes. This is land where it is not uncommon to see bison, moose, bears, coyotes, wolves and wild cats. The wildlife offered haunting sound effects at nighttime against a full moon on
I will post on my Night Train fan page. Turns out, the original owner Jerry died accidentally shot by local law enforcement after he called for help suspecting a burglary. The bullet holes are still displayed on the wall. Imagine that! Relics Retreats is equipped with authentic Finnish Valo, Rusuu and Maa saunas, a seasonal outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor whirlpools, pedi-tubs, hydro-room and plenty of “RELICSation” stations for rest between sauna sessions. The timeless,
go from here you may ask? Jerry’s Saloon and Relics Retreats are gearing up for 2020 fundraising for Braach Shepherds 4 Veterans Inc through MMBR. Arndt is in discussions with bike manufacturers to bring their fleet of bikes for the savvy motorcycling adventure seeker. I can’t wait to see which manufacturer will successfully convince Arndt and Baja Moto Tours and Relics Retreats that they are the best long-term option to partner with. I continue to ride the open air and dream of days gone by and all that is
that Friday 13th. Frankly, it was hypnotic, and I couldn’t help but look up into the sky and blow a kiss or two saying a prayer for my children and my soulmate. On the journey back we stopped at the legendary haunted Jerry’s Saloon in Fortine (~300 population) owned by Craig and lovely Travis. I saw surveillance video footage proving spiritual manifestations which
healing energy of authentic stones and fossils leave you in awe as you take in the unique ambiance. Add on a yoga class, full body massage, hair masque or meditative sound bath to customize your experience. Relics Retreats is that all-inclusive oasis that offers more than you could ever hope for. So, if you want the experience, it’s there for the taking. Where does the road

CravenNeed Moorehead A Lift I, at one time had a small motorcycle shop on the lot next to my house. Although after years of living there, the robo-signer mortgage scam caused me to lose that particular piece of property, but the lot still belonged to me, and regardless of the city’s continuous attempts to eliminate my ownership through fines and harassment, the day came when I was able to sell the lot and liquidate the tools and equipment that remained there. One of those particular pieces of equipment (and the subject of this story) was a very nice pneumatic motorcycle lift. This wasn’t one of those ‘cheep-o bargain tool store’ lifts, it was one of those that you would see in your local dealership—very nice and VERY heavy. I had moved the lift to a storage warehouse near the trailer park while I attempted to sell it. One day, I was sitting in the local tavern shooting the $#!t with some friends and the topic of the motorcycle shop came up. One of my friends “Greasy” expressed an interest in having such a piece of equipment and we soon struck up a deal for him to purchase it. Greasy is an auto mechanic but an avid H-D rider and he stated the fact that he needed a lift to do a major job on his Harley. I told him that I and my partner Rick had done a ton of bikes on that lift and that he would enjoy having it to use for his own service problems. Unfortunately Rick had some medical problems and some surgeries that prevented him from continuing with our plan of moving the shop. Rick is doing well, and our prayers are with him! He will survive but will Greasy? After the initial conversation regarding the purchase of the lift, Greasy and I went to the shop to see the item. We both decided that the thing was way too heavy to load into his truck Once upon a time, and long, long ago I used to have a house with just the two of us plus, when I moved the lift to the shop it had that I lived in that was made of bricks and wood. I had to bury some locked itself into the raised position making it almost impossible to wheels under it so that I could sleep and I would feel comfortable. move. Knowing this we returned to the bar to recruit some help. No When the economy crashed, and they took my house away I felt a problem! After a few beers and a little BS we had four helpers that little upset, but I had already put my contingency plan in place. I were dedicated to getting the lift onto Greasy’s truck. That’s when it got kinda funny. … bought another trailer. Once trailer trash, always trailer trash. In an expose’ of macho stupidity, I rolled the lift out of the shop Looking back at it, I don’t miss having all the expenses that come along with owning property, and I despise the thought of being onto the tarmac behind the truck. I said “The problem here is that taxed for simply owning something. It seems that there is little or no we won’t be able to load it in the upright position” and everyone freedom from the bureaucrats who continue to take and take from the agreed that we needed to lower it all the way down to get it in the people and provide little or no support to those very same folks that pickup. While our ‘helpers’ watched, I once again executed another need representation. This, my friends, is the reason that I am Trailer feat of superman ignorance by lifting up on the table portion of Trash, and for the first time in my life I can actually enjoy being a free the device while Greasy kept his foot on the lower part of the unit man in a free life. Judge me if you will, but as we all recall from last which probably wasn’t a good idea. We released the locking bar month, Spyke and Mike visited me here in the trailer park to discuss that held the unit in the upright position while I alone holding the the content in his column regarding some silly rules. I hate rules, but table watched in agony as Greasy’s foot was crushed between the table and the lower unit. “I’m alright – I’m alright!” Greasy hollered always try to offer advice. … The Trailer Trash Court however is based upon sensibility, as everyone else stood laughing at us, “it only got my shoe!” – righteousness and the opinions and dedications of those of us whom Okay that’s fine but as I stood there with the weight of the lift and have decided to live our life on wheels instead of concrete foundations Greasy’s leg in my hands I had to holler out for a little help! The and brick walls. Ask Spyke and Mike about that, as we had a session guys still laughing their collective asses off eventually came over of TT Court last month regarding his predisposed opinions regarding to try to lift the table just a little while Greasy untied his shoe to women, men and in his case - BIRDS. I’m sure that Mike probably escape. He got his foot out and there were no missing toes or blood learned (just a little) from hanging out with some folks who live in the thank God, but the shoe was still stuck. We were finally able to gap between homelessness and financial security, but we all have retrieve the shoe and our composure. Needless to say that incident to respect the fact that no matter your monetary wherewithal we ALL was one of those “you had to be there” situations but at the time it have to live together in this messed up society that we so love. If was fairly hilarious, and has been talked about amongst us for quite we spend all our time despising the government, the city, and our a while. It’s Great to Have Friends
Fall is upon us, my Born To Ride friends. It’s that time of year for cooler days and perfect riding nights. Mike has finally started his PT, and I’m looking out the window daily for a friend to show up and take me for my PT. It was a blessing in disguise that Mike’s left leg was the worst casualty and he doesn’t drive a stick shift. He can now get around in the truck. For me, being in four-wheels and hanging out the window like a dog gets me some wind therapy, but it’s just never enough. His girlfriend, Reann, has become our saving angel. I’m still getting used to her being around all the time. We have somewhat bonded by her taking me for a couple of rides to help with my withdrawal. As for Mike, he’s been going in the pool, helping me improve my surfing while doing Aqua therapy. Besides sleeping a lot, he’s also hanging out at the arcade. That crazy man has been riding the sportbike simulators and the one Harley machine, just to get the feel of something between his legs, off his feet, and on the road. He even went as far as bringing in a small fan and placing it in front of the simulator, just to imitate a little wind therapy. BTR 70 | BORNTORIDE.COM
Mike breaks in, “Damn Spyke, you give away all my secrets. And yes, I just got into PT. That is what most people call Physical Therapy. At the clinic, they call it Pain and Torture, and they say it with a smile. I’m just glad to be getting out a little more and working my way back to being normal. Four-wheels or fake two-wheels, it doesn’t matter. Right now, I’d like to thank everybody who has helped me in getting this far starting with Ron and Debbie Galletti, my parents from the other grandparents. The Fran Haasch Law Group, especially Fran and Rhett. Valerie Smith at Rider Now Magazine, Lew and Gail in Daytona, Louie, Fran, Brad, and the gang at Scooter Haven. Then there are the thousands of friends around here who have donated time, money, or a helping hand to get Spyke and me through this. People like that make life worth living and the world a better place. It just sucks there aren’t enough of them out there to go around. Speaking of being out there. I can’t wait until Halloween bike night at Quaker Steak & Lube. Dr. Paul Bearer is planning on being there and so is Ron and Debbie with a special TV taping and magazine shoot. Bill Church and the Lube is giving away a Harley that night. To win it, all you have to do is go to a bike night before then and fill out an entry form. Then, show up and you could be a happy camper, or should I say a happy biker, if your name is called. Plus, you’ll get to see a lot of crazy costumes.” CoralHead Musicfest is November 2nd. There will be one helluva flashback from the past going on with Vince Neil, Sebastian Bach, Slaughter, and many more. This is one show not to be missed. It’s $34 in advance, but Ron is giving away tickets! All you gotta do is go on the Born To Ride website and find out how to get yours. The following weekend is the infamous and best old school biker party in Florida: Roscoe’s Chili Challenge. We’ve been part of that event many years and it’s always lots of fun. That’s one good time where there are a thousand Kodak moments taken of me lost in the middle of all that biker debauchery. Unfortunately, this year it conflicts with the Salty Shamrocks’ Live on the Rock 2 Biker Bash. With your friends Big Engine jammin’ and my good buddy Sharpy running the show, there’s guaranteed tons of fun happening here. Whichever you choose, I and Reann are along for the ride. Mike babbles, “Yes, I look forward to getting you two back out and into the scene. It will all be good therapy for me. Craig is in the process of building the Fat Bird 3 as we speak. It’s going to be many months in the future, but at least there’s a new vision and a new ride on the way. Until then, we’ll just have to keep your friends coming ‘round and getting your wings in the wind, their knees in the breeze, and a different set of wheels under you, rolling down the road.” SPYKE
