MULTI LANE ROADS

Search: You are traveling along a multi-lane highway in heavy traffic. Following distances are very close and your space cushion is reduced. Searching this chaotic traffic pattern, you observe all of the following hazards: other vehicles, reduced space cushion, inadequate following distances, and reduced space to both sides. A hurried-looking driver is in the lane to your right, tailgating the car ahead of him and obviously looking for an opportunity to pass. He begins to change lanes into the space that you presently occupy. Evaluate: Immediate action is required. Decide to communicate with the other driver and take action to protect your space. Execute: Execute by sounding your horn. Steer to adjust your position away from the offending automobile, cover your brakes and clutch, slowing or speeding up as necessary to avoid the car. Scott Kessler and Jimmy Gannon are instrumental in staging events, bike shows, and all sorts of biker activities. Thanks guys for all your hard work; I can’t wait for the Anniversary Party on May 14. I hope you enjoy the ride I put together. It will take you on some nice back roads in Manatee County. Heading east on FL-64, you will go north on Rye Rd. If you look off to the right a few miles up Rye Rd, you might catch a glimpse of where Hollywood Circus keeps their camels, giraffes, and other wild animals. They will have free food, live music, vendors, a cash bar, and always something special inside the dealership. Every month I have to come up with a special ride for the magazine, and this month I couldn’t resist creating a selfguided scenic ride starting and ending at this dealership. The event will be going on all afternoon, come enjoy all the activities, go take a ride, and come back for more fun. The fire has been lit in Florida with a new action-thriller that is destined to be a hit amongst the biker family—Nation’s Fire has started to take shape. Ron Galletti, producer/publisher of Born To Ride TV & magazine will be on the creative side, taking his new film venture by storm, with his role as producer of the upcoming film that will star (also be produced by) the very beautiful and talented Krista Grotte who starred in The Emerging Past, Lazarus: Apocalypse, (both available on DVD and streaming services) and the upcoming Check Point film. If Ms. Grotte looks very familiar to the Born To Ride magazine she should … she was a former on air host for the Born To Ride weekly television show. The film will be written, directed, and also produced by the multi-award winning independent filmmaker, Thomas J. Churchill. Mr. Churchill has written and directed the last BTR 12 | BORNTORIDE.COM

three films that Krista has starred in. However, this is the first time Mr. Galletti and Mr. Churchill will join creative forces, but their backgrounds suggest an action-packed film with some serious twists. This new power trio has big plans with their first project together–Nation’s Fire. They have been scouting all over Florida, looking for special locations to film. When asked on his vision for this new exciting biker thriller, Mr. Churchill replied, “Easy Rider is the Holy Grail of biker films … I would love to make a film as great and beloved as that … we plan to come real close.” They have been tight-lipped on the story and who will be involved, but if Mr. Churchill’s most recent film Check Point is any indication, stand by for some action. The trio plan on shooting a slate of films in and around the Florida area with other joint projects to be named later. When asked

about Hollywood coming to Florida, Mr. Galletti replied, “We here at Born To Ride are very excited to have Hollywood come to Florida and maybe make Florida ‘the place’ to shoot films.” Born To Ride will be along to document the making of Nation’s Fire and will be first to bring you exclusive up to date information on the making of this exciting film. Kind of like the Nation’s Fire journal. Stay abreast and updated on casting, locations shooting, and on the new power trio of Galletti, Grotte and Churchill (GGC). Go and like the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for the film, as well as Nation’s Fire.com for further information on this action-thriller. Last month I took you along on the beginning of my road trip through northern Arizona with my best friend Rob. We camped and rode horses in Monument Valley and cruised through the Utah desert to Mexican Hat, riding dirt roads surrounded by stunning red cliffs. Several times while sharing the journey with you last month I mentioned Forrest Gump, but it really was just a tease for this month’s edition of my ride for Lakota’s Memorial Ride for Pets and Wildlife. One thing on my bucket list that I intended to check off on this trip was riding Historic Route 163 in southern Utah just up the road from Monument Valley and on the way to our next destination, Utah’s Valley of the Gods. One location that is the iconic shot of this road for all travelers is a pullover looking BTR 18 | BORNTORIDE.COM

south back towards Monument Valley. Tourists, photographers, and travelers of all sort always want to stop and take a shot showing their version of this iconic stretch of road. And apparently international travelers are no exception. When we pulled off the road to take some shots of our own, a gentleman with a camera similar to mine walked over to me and started to chat a bit about who he was and what he was doing there. He said he was an Englishman traveling through the American southwest working on an article for a European travel magazine and wanted to know if he could take some shots of me alongside my Road King with the iconic desert scenery stretching out behind me. My favorite part of his request was why he wanted to take my picture. He said, and I quote, “You look very

Americana to me.” Well, if I’m representing the good ol’ USA how could I refuse. So he took some shots of me in various poses on and around my bike then we exchanged contact information and said our good-byes. That wasn’t even on my bucket list, but I think I’ll check it off anyway. I’m sure that most of you have seen Robert Zemeckis award winning film, Forrest Gump. If you haven’t, please remove yourself from under that rock and watch it … and hey, it was filmed right here in Georgia. Anyway, for those who have seen it you may remember the scene where Forrest just stops running while being followed by a large group of fellow runners. That scene was shot along this stretch of Route 163. Before I went on this road trip, I had planned on trying to duplicate this scene

What do you have on your Bucket List? Let us know. info@borntoride.com

from the movie using Rob to fill in as Tom Hanks’ character. Rob is a bit of hippy and it had been a while since his hair had been near any kind of clippers. Those who have seen the movie know that Forrest also had shunned the barber while running across the country. So I found a jacket that was similar to Gump’s and I used an orange Harley hat to replace the red Bubba Gump Fish Co. hat worn by Tom Hanks. I had pulled up a still shot of the movie scene and saved it on my smartphone, so once I framed up the shot I had Rob give me his best Forrest Gump impersonation. I think you’ll agree that other than the absence of the other runners we nailed our interpretation of the scene. I do know it was a very popular post on our personal Facebook pages ... insert smiley face here.

Our next destination and campsite was Valley of the Gods in southern Utah. This was a last minute add-on to the trip and I will say that was a mistake. Not because of something bad about the location, no far from that. It’s more about how spectacular this place is, and we only had scheduled one night of camping in this showcase of the American southwest. Located on BLM land, a 17-mile long dirt and gravel road winds through this beautiful secluded valley. Sandy and bumpy, with steep sections, when it’s dry it provides a great ride through an area that is usually deserted. It is a great place to get away from civilization, to get away from the bothers of modern life. But unless you’re in a four-wheel drive or an ATV I wouldn’t attempt it during any kind of wet weather and even that would be a challenge.

Tell us what you think about this travel feature. info@borntoride.com

After doing a partial ride through the valley we found a spot to set up camp and then we each went our own separate way exploring the valley, Rob on his mountain bicycle and me on the Road King. I wish it was possible to express on these pages the feeling I had slowly riding along trying to take in the sheer majesty of the red rock cliffs and buttes. To see all around me the contrast in the red desert sands against the green and gold flora and the Cottonwood trees that sprung up along the seasonal Lime Creek. To me, riding my Road King through land like this has to be the best way to experience such beauty. Out in the open, breathing in every smell the desert can bring forth, the sun bright on the landscape but the breeze from the ride keeping me refreshed, feeling alive.

BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 21

I’ve always imagined a motorcycle as a modern day version of riding a horse and riding through this majestic landscape only solidifies that imagination. After an afternoon spent exploring the valley Rob and I met back at the campsite to watch a beautiful sunset followed by a starry night enhanced by a full showing of the Milky Way across the sky. This is why I travel! The next morning after a camp side breakfast we packed up and headed for the next destination. We traveled back into Arizona and headed towards the north rim of the Grand Canyon. But there was another stop on the way. We knew of a campsite below a place called Vermillion Cliffs with much to be experienced nearby. The campsite is located in a state park BTR 22 | BORNTORIDE.COM

where the Grand Canyon officially begins and the Colorado River first starts to show its force as it enters the canyon. On the way we cross over the twin Navajo Bridges that span across a narrow canyon as the Colorado River flows hundreds of feet below. We sat on the edge of a 1000’ ledge as this mighty river courses through Horseshoe Bend. Here, as the Colorado River cut down through the layers of sandstone, it created a 270° horseshoe-shaped bend in the canyon. We walked through Navajo dwellings hundreds of years old and walked with wild horses below Vermillion Cliffs. We experienced a fiery red sunset sky reflecting in the calm waters of the Colorado River before it becomes the roaring river of lore as it enters the Grand Canyon.

We chose the north rim of the Grand Canyon for our next camping location because it is the least visited yet most spectacular portion to experience. The southern rim is much closer than the northern to several major metropolitan areas, thus more people visit that side of the canyon. And anyone who knows me knows I will always go where the fewest people are. Don’t get me wrong though, I do like persons, it’s people I don’t much care for. Anyway, I don’t really think anyone can express in words the feelings one gets while sitting on the edge of a cliff overlooking this almost unbelievable place. As much as I love photography, not even pictures can come close to giving the Grand Canyon its due. The canyon stretches nearly as far as

So tell us your dream ride and we just might send you there. info@borntoride.com

can be seen. The horizon at the top of the canyon is straight as an arrow with a few mountains here and there. Looking into the canyon you are looking back in time; the Colorado River cutting its way through this mesa country on its way to the gulf revealing all of the different colors in the cliffs representing different eras of our planet. As the afternoon sun makes it way towards the horizon, the changing light enhances the colors in the cliffs that literally surround you. As the sunset gave way to night, I sat on the edge of a cliff, my feet dangling below me looking across this vast canyon landscape and I had the feeling that at this very moment I was the luckiest person in the world. This was our final destination and now BTR 28 | BORNTORIDE.COM

it was time to work our way back towards Atlanta. But I had two more places to visit that would help make this a road trip of a lifetime, as if it wasn’t already. Every biker longs to ride along Historic Route 66—the road that made traveling the highways and byways of this country a national pastime. And traveling along Route 66 one can find many old school attractions and quaint small little towns. One place that every road tripper on Route 66 should stop is called the Cadillac Ranch. Back in 1974 two architects and an artist halfway buried 10 Cadillacs representing different eras of this classic American car. Over the year’s graffiti artists have added their own personal touches and it has become a road trip landmark. Now before I leave you, I want to share

the final check off of my bucket list. When I was a teenager the Eagles were one of my favorite groups. One song of theirs in particular always has me singing along and remembering those teenage summers of road trips and cruising down county roads. Take It Easy is that song and I’m betting most of you have the same reaction. Well, Route 66 cruises through a small Arizona town called Winslow. Are you beginning to see where I’m going? Yes, there’s a line in that song that we all know by heart, “Well, I was standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona, such a fine sight to see. It’s a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford slowing down to take a look at me.” Yep … check one more thing off the list. Photos by Rob Horne and Eric Albright

MEANING OF MEMORIAL DAY NEVER FORGET OUR VETERANS WHO SERVE

I have approached this subject several times over the years, Memorial Day is not the official start of summer, nor should it be the reason for a 3-day long weekend of parties, barbecues, or car sales. Memorial Day has had several names over the 150 years of its existence; however, the reason for Memorial Day stays the same. The day is for honoring and showing respect for those who have been killed while serving in the military, beginning with the Civil War through current military engagements. Over the years Memorial Day has BTR 30 | BORNTORIDE.COM

diminished as a national holiday and has became the unofficial start of summer and big box store specials. Why has it gotten to that point? Simply stated, people don’t seem to care as much as they have in the past. With only 10% of the American population having served in the military, the other 90% seems to have forgotten what the actual cost of freedom is, those who have given their lives. Cemeteries will have small American Flags placed on the final resting places of our warriors and American Flags should be flown at half staff from dawn until noon

at which time they will be brought back to full staff (or to the top of the pole). To properly bring the Flag to the half staff position the flag should be raised to the upper most position on the staff and then lowered to the half way position. Now you should have some idea as to what Memorial Day represents and what respect and dignity the day should be shown. Please say a special prayer for those who we have lost over the years. God Bless America and those who serve in uniform. It’s not about the war; it’s about those who serve to protect us. Terry Longpre

Remember and Honor our Veterans and Never Forget the meaning of Memorial Day.

As many of our readers know, Susan has been with us for many, many years. She is the one who gets our cover stories written, has been instrumental in writing many stories for our Women’s World column, and takes pleasure in attending many biker events where Born To Ride is set up at. What some of you may not know is that Susan has gone through some pretty immense and trying times. But thankfully, her positive spirit and cheerful attitude has turned her once upside-down world up to huge and remarkable horizons where the sun shines upon Susan. We wanted to take some time and share with our readers how she’s doing and what she’s up to these days!

BTR: September 2, 2015, was a very difficult day for you and all of us here at Born To Ride. Susan: Oh, yes … that day will be forever etched in my memory. A drunk driver took the life of my husband, best friend, soul mate, and business partner, Johnny Martin. I’m doing much better these days thanks to my wonderful friends and family. Unfortunately, the guy who killed Johnny is still free and hasn’t been charged with anything yet. The Florida Highway Patrol says this can take up to a year. So, to say the least, I haven’t really had any closure with this disgusting nightmare. BTR: You have decided to do something that

you and Johnny talked about doing for many years! Susan: Yes! We were doing our biker vending business, Krazy Biker Katz, on weekends. Both of us worked full-time jobs and fit the shows in when we could. But it wasn’t the same after Johnny died. There was something missing in my life that lacked substance and appeal. I didn’t enjoy my current work life. So, I took the BIG step; On January 4, I decided to quit working for someone else and work for myself. So far, it’s been great! I’ve been going to shows here in Florida and have events already booked in Alabama, Pennsylvania, and New York during the

summer months. I’m still working on booking other shows as we speak. I prefer the smaller venue shows versus the larger biker events; the smaller ones are more personal and enjoyable. Plus, the vendor fees are where you don’t have to take a second mortgage out on your house! Dang, some of those large events have vendor fees that are insane! BTR: What does Krazy Biker Katz sell? Susan: Leather and denim vests, jewelry, leather belts, leather purses, etc. I’m constantly updating my inventory to make it fresh and new. I never want to have the same things all the time. I love to find new items for my customers! BTR: You were working on your new book, “Women and Motorcycling – Past, Present, and Future.” How’s that going? Susan: When Johnny died, everything came to one, huge screeching halt. He was doing all of the research for my book. At one point, I just wanted to trash everything and crawl into the nearest hole I could find and bury my sorrow and intense pain. But, I couldn’t find a hole deep enough for my 5’10” frame! (laughing!) After a few weeks, I decided to take a different path. BTR: And what was that path? Susan: Johnny was an immensely talented man. Very gifted in many areas especially music and writing. He was working on two books when he passed. So, I’ve decided to continue on with his work and finish these two books! My book can wait. I want to finish his work and share it with the world. BTR: What are these books about? Susan: They are both fiction, biker related, with fast-paced and intense plots. I’m honored to be able to complete these books for Johnny. Born To Ride will be getting the first copies once they come off the press! BTR 34 | BORNTORIDE.COM

BTR: So, you’ll be heading up north with Krazy Biker Katz during the summer months. What do you have planned? Susan: In addition to attending various biker events, I will be blogging on our Born To Ride Women’s World website. I will let everyone know what’s going on in the locations I’ll be travelling to. I will also be updating our Women’s World Facebook page as well. I hope to meet some intriguing women riders while I’m out and about and write about them. I’m very excited about this new chapter in my life! BTR: You also had another devastating blow

recently. Susan: (Big sigh … ) Yes … when it rains it pours. My beloved father passed away a few months after Johnny. I received a call from my mom asking if I could come up to New York and spend time with the family and dad. I made arrangements for my dog and cats and got the next flight out up to the cold and snow of New York. I was thankful to spend time with dad. We shed some tears together and told each other how much we love one another. He passed five days later.

There was a part of me that wasn’t ready to deal with yet another death in my family. But, I came to the realization that no one has that “free pass” card where you aren’t going to die. We all have to go someday. I’m just making sure that the days I live are productive and positive ones. BTR: Have you been getting many miles on Nunya? (Note: Nunya is Susan’s cherished Kawasaki Vacquero Bagger 1700cc motorcycle) Susan: (Laughing) Oh my! I just bought a new home, moved, now doing renovations in my home, and going on the road with Krazy Biker Katz. Nunya is sitting patiently in her garage waiting for me. I did take her out for a few hours the other day. I just stopped working on my house and said, “It’s time to go for a ride!” It was nice just to get the wind in my hair again and the sun on my face. A Place FOR GIRLS Preventing Delinquency Since 1957

As the Boys Ranch grew in size and structure, praise for the success of the program spread across Florida. Everyone knew the Sheriffs’ strong commitment to these deserving boys, but what about the girls? The need was clear but the path was not. Fortunately, the sister of Pinellas County Sheriff Don Genung had carefully watched his efforts to help develop the Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch. With his help, she approached the Sunshine State Women’s Chamber of Commerce to enlist their support to raise money for a “sister” program to the Boys Ranch. The group agreed and immediately

launched a focused fundraising effort to build a place for wayward girls. Their tenacity and determination soon paid off. In 1969, the Sheriffs of Florida formally adopted the idea of establishing the Florida Sheriffs Girls Villa. A search committee was formed, and by 1971 they had secured a beautiful piece of property formerly known as Peace River Park. Through the efforts of Polk County Sheriff Monroe Brennan and other community leaders, the Mobil Corporation, the City of Bartow, and Polk County Officials agreed to a 99-year lease of over 125 acres of land for $1 per year. The local community

in Bartow responded in a very positive way through the Bartow Classic, a longstanding gala event to support the Girls Villa. Groundbreaking for the new building began at once, and soon the campus was overflowing with deserving girls in need of a good home. Over the years, the Florida Sheriffs Youth Villa (formerly known as the Girls Villa) has grown to include five cottages, and Activity Center, Learning Center, Pool, Chapel, Towey Administration Building, Izard Barn, and other facilities to help young women become productive members of our community.

This past month I have met some really wonderful people during the travels of Wall Street Rides during all the bike events. One of the things that stood out in all of the conversations I have had with many of you is that not very many people truly understood all of their investment accounts or how to protect themselves and their family financially. You should really know where your money is, and at a minimum have an understanding of how financial markets work. It can be very overwhelming and I understand that. Most people I talk to just let someone else do the work for them. What you do not know can hurt you. With so much going on with the economy, the political environment, and the situation around the world it is critical you understand who is investing your money, why they are investing in certain areas, and wondering where it really is? Do you remember 2008 and how long it has taken to recover from that disaster? Probably not, because we all tend to forget. The majority of people I speak with, especially here in Florida, don’t understand there are vehicles that can help you shelter your dollars. I was also astounded at how many people do not have a will, power of attorney, or provisions for their children. As a fellow rider, I am here to be your voice of reason. Your family is depending on it and/or at minimum, leave it to your favorite charity. Some people asked me, well how do you know when markets may turn or should I leave it under the mattress or even just as bad the bank earning nothing. With the average rate of inflation over the years running around 3%. Why would you want your money to earn nothing? So what is the answer? If you don’t know or cannot tell someone where your money is invested then you need to call me. I would love to sit down with you and explain in simple terms what this all means. I work with individuals like yourself every day and have for many years. Markets move in cycles and almost without fail they have had corrections about every 7 years. With the up coming presidential election you really need to know more than

ever what makes a market move one way or another. It could be a simple statement from a political candidate on a certain subject or news about the global situation. Interest rates have been very low for many years and with the Federal Open Market Committee meeting on a quarterly basis they are looking to start raising rates again, which has a very definitive affect on the average consumer because of the trickledown theory. In other words, if a company has to pay more for the working capital they borrow to use, then their prices must go up and the stock/bond markets are affected with the ultimate price paid by the average consumer. If you have money in the bank, don’t look to start making better returns on those monies any time soon. The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee is sitting quiet during this political year and it will take a long time to effect savings interest rates when they do begin to raise rates again. Inform yourself, keep your money safe. All of your questions are important. If you are working with someone whether it is your advisor, accountant, or attorney ask questions. We can help you work with your other advisors as well, or call us and we can walk you through the maze of information. Hey, I could not repair my motorcycle to save my life. I go to an expert for that

BTR 42 | BORNTORIDE.COM

If you have Questions, Call Michelle, 844-WS-RIDES

and I ask lots of questions because I know I need to be informed. Do that with your investments or your 401k, even your bank accounts. If you don’t understand ask! Every question when it comes to your financial health is important to your future. Did you know that there are so many opportunities that you do not have to pay a fee for? Or that you could get the upside of the markets with downside protection. If you are paying fees that is eroding any gains on your money. Safeguard yourself and arm yourself with knowledge. It is not a secret. I pride myself in making something very complicated, simple to understand. It would be like me taking my Harley to the dealership and them telling me how to repair the engine. Nope, I want to know what the simple part is and can it be fixed. Because I want to be safe on the roads. Ask yourself; do I have another 7 years to regain any losses? If the answer is no call me and I will walk you through all of your options and explain clearly what they are. Knowledge is power: I can help you ride without worrying about whether you are losing the money you worked so hard to earn.

A Salute to Women Riders

May is a significant month for women riders. So this month I am going to devote my story to the International Female Ride Day© (IFRD). It is a campaign for women motorcyclists with the purpose of ... HIGHLIGHTING & PROFILING the female motorcycle and scooter rider. Their Facebook story states: Its mission is that of building and underlining broad-spectrum (and public) awareness of female motorcyclists of every culture around the world, while simultaneously encouraging other women to take up the activity; demonstrating the ease of the activity. The history of the event, as reported from their website, is 10 years in the making. The International Female Ride Day is a MOTORESS initiative—“connecting women with motorcycling” and known as the place for the woman motorcycle enthusiast. The concept was a much earlier idea, yet finally and enthusiastically became reality with its introduction in Canada in 2007. This is where MOTORESS International main offices are located. It was promoted initially as a national event with the goal of becoming an international campaign. During the first year run in 2007, women motorcycle riders in Canada, United States, and European locations joined in! The event was immediately embraced by thousands of BTR 48 | BORNTORIDE.COM

women motorcycle riders, making its introduction international! “The day was born with the purpose to underline the fact that many women ride and enjoy motorcycling. By implementing a day where female motorcyclists simply got on their motorcycles and rode would truly underline this fact,” states Vicki Gray, founder and director of MOTORESS International. Additionally, International Female Ride Day promotes women in motorcycling and encourages other women to take up the activity. The numbers of women motorcycle riders have steadily increased over the years and certainly more so in recent decades (women’s social values have changed—advanced). International Female Ride Day provides a platform for women riders to bond, grow, and continue enjoying motorcycling! In its conceptual design it was the goal to firstly introduce a campaign, additionally a synchronized day where women globally would simply JUST RIDE. Event coordinators thought of similar successful campaigns such as Live Aid, the famed coordinated music concerts to benefit HIV/Aids; the American Motorcycle Safety Council Ride to Work Day campaign, and traditional events such as Mother’s Day were useful role models for the International Female Ride Day concept. “When you introduce a unique new concept or campaign, you really don’t know how or even if it will be received. The success was overwhelming and not just within Canada! Women riders in the United States jumped at the idea and provided unexpected participation as they too rode on Female Ride Day,” expresses Vicki. In 2008, aside from seeing the number in North America expand, the campaign observed women riders in Australia, England, Greece, and Netherlands. There were even a few women at locations in Russia who promoted the day and participated. Within one year, International Female Ride Day has been embraced by women riders themselves. It’s a campaign that is here to stay, and each year the campaign continues to expand and grow. International Female Ride Day© shines a spotlight on women motorcyclists while asking each woman rider to be a role model for motorcycling on this one global day. This is achieved by the single unified IFRD action of JUST RIDE©. It’s a day for and of women motorcycle, scooter, and trike riders everywhere. A day emphasizing the many numbers of female’s who ride motorcycles; supporting their diversities, agelessness, limitless abilities, and the enjoyment women embrace in the activity of motorcycling. The principals of the event are a shining example of the EQ Lifestyle. Don’t just live ... Live your life with a passion! Hayley B. Colina, Esq. Founder EQ Women Succeed, LLC

The Smallest Most Advanced Fire Suppression Unit InThe World!

DON’T GET CAUGHT UNPREPARED

One time many years ago, I and a couple of friends were enjoying a weekend ride on our motorcycles. Like most motorcyclists, we chose to take advantage of the “quieter” back roads still available in parts of Central Florida. As we came around a bend we immediately noticed three motorcycles pulled off on the side of the road with all three riders furiously throwing sand and dirt onto one of the bikes. This bike had black smoke billowing out from under its seat! We stopped to see if we could help and pretty soon all of us were looking for anything we could use to help put out what was rapidly becoming a fully fledged fire! Two minutes later……. we were all standing on the other side of the road watching this once proud soft-tail burn to the ground. To this day I don’t know if it was a fuel leak or something flammable that came into contact with an exhaust pipe. All I know, is that was the first time I wished I had a fire suppression device of some type with me. That was over a decade ago and since then I have been witness to backwoods brushfires from my ATV, car fires on the side of the road and a few more motorcycle fires that all started out as small and controllable……..if I had only had access to a portable fire sup-

pression device small enough to be carried with me. Well now such a device exists! It is called the Extinguish Stick and it was developed to fight fires in space. It is small but packs a big punch. It is about 10.5” long and 1.25” in diameter. It weighs less than a pound. Overall, it is about the size and weight of a good flashlight or road flare. It is the perfect size to fit in a pannier, saddle bag or backpack. Yet amazingly it carries enough fire fighting payload to outperform 20 pound, full size fire extinguishers! The average full sized fire extinguisher will exhaust its payload in 10-20 seconds when initiated and in significantly less time if it has not been properly maintained. The Extinguish Stick comes in two “run times.” One is a 50 second unit and the other one is a 100 second version. They are the same size with the 100 second unit weighing a bit more due to it carrying a larger fire suppression payload. The Extinguish Stick is approved for A, B, and C rated fires. It is environmentally friendly and has an extended shelf life. Since it is not pressurized…..it never has to be serviced or recharged. Hence, it is always ready to go. This is a one-time use fire suppression device. This means that

once you use it, you simply discard it. It is very simple to use. You pull the red cover off the top of the unit and insert it into the bottom of the blue handle. Then you pull the yellow “ring-pin,” located at the top of the unit. This initiates the ignition procedure and within a couple of seconds a jet of white gas is spewing forth under pressure. The chemical reaction that takes place uses potassium nitrate as the fire suppression agent. This agent has a voracious appetite for oxygen. Hence, once the gas comes into contact with a fire, it starves it of oxygen and “snuffs” it out! It does this without leaving any messy residue or harming the user or the environment. You can visit the Extinguish Stick website at www.extinguishstick.com to learn more about this advanced technology and actually see videos of the unit in action. You can purchase the product on that website or by asking for it at your local bike shop. While the manufacturer has a five year warranty on the unit, it will remain fully functional for longer than that. They start at $79.00 MSRP. That is a steal in my opinion. When I think of the cost of not having this type of emergency tool when you need one……it is cheap insurance indeed!

were places that we went to race.” In 2007, Lea started riding the Suzuki Hayabusa. “I got much more involved in racing and went to as many events that I could attend. If there were events in Florida, we tried to make as many of them as we could.” Then tragedy struck. Lea was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma. Mammary ductal carcinoma is the most common type of breast cancer in women. It comes in two forms: invasive ductal carcinoma, an infiltrating, malignant and abnormal proliferation of neoplastic cells (abnormal growth of cells) in the breast tissue, or ductal carcinoma, a noninvasive, potentially malignant, neoplasm that is still confined to the milk ducts, where breast cancer most often originates. “It was devastating. You don’t know what’s going on, what’s going to happen. It’s just plain scary. I was extremely lucky they caught it so early. With the diagnosis and them catching this early, I elected to have a double mastectomy. Two weeks later, the test results come back telling me whether I have to go through chemo or radiation. I was beyond lucky! I didn’t have to have either chemo or radiation!” This is why Lea is so passionate about her racing and spreading the word about breast cancer and the importance of yearly mammograms and self-checks. “I raise awareness because that mammogram saved my life! I went ahead and pushed on with the reconstructive procedures which took quite a bit of time. Now, I am cancer free!” Lea makes it a point to attend as many events as she possibly can to promote her racing and her cause. “Just recently, I was at Quaker Steak and Lube for the Bikers Raising Awareness events (BRA). I brought my race bike and talked to people about my racing and more importantly, bringing awareness to breast cancer and that both women AND men get it. I love BRA because they help those that really need the help. When I was sick, I couldn’t get food stamps because my husband made too much money at his job. I couldn’t even get temporary disability! My employer had even called unemployment to try and help my case. They still denied it. I ran into brick walls everywhere I went. I tried to do whatever I could. It was very difficult.” Lea has an interesting race she’s going to participate in! “I’m going to be involved in a race in July that a friend coordinates. It’s held within another race called, ‘Paint the Quarter Pink.’ All funds from this event will be given to the breast cancer research foundation. I’m the only survivor involved in this race. This event will be held in Maryland on July 21–22.” Lea is a public speaker, discussing her racing and her devotion to finding a cure for breast cancer. “A friend of mine got me to speak at a women’s event in Daytona. They have a ‘Women Ride’ feature and it’s not for women only. I spoke about being a survivor of breast

There is a very cool woman that has inspired many people that cross her path. If she’s not out on the drag strip racing her Hayabusa, she’s out and about promoting the importance of breast cancer research. Lea Martinez is a name I will not forget, nor will you. She’s a cancer survivor and a remarkable human being! So, how did you get involved in motorcycling, Lea? “I had moved down to Florida in 2004. I met my husband here, and together we decided to buy a motorcycle. Within 6 months I was learning how to drag race!” As a child, Lea’s dad used to race pro stock cars, a brother who races motorcycles, and a stepsister who races motorcycles. So, I

guess you can say she’s keeping her passion alive via her family’s love of the sport! “This has been something I’ve always been interested in. I finally have the opportunity to do that and, most importantly, having someone to support this passion of mine. “Lea and her husband started going to the racetracks and meeting people that were into the sport of drag racing. She got some great pointers on what to do on the racetrack, how to handle her bike, and all the good stuff that comes along with drag racing. At the time, I knew nothing. I got involved into AMA Drag Bike Series. Whenever we could afford to go to these races, we would go. Orlando, Lakeland, Bradenton, West Palm—as well as up and down the east coast—

A THANK YOU TO YOU MOM

I’d like to thank my mom for the unconditional and inexhaustible love she gives to me and my children. I could not dream of a more selfless person than my mother. Without her, I would never be in the place I am today. I would not be able to juggle kids and work without her undying support. I don’t know where she finds the energy to do all she has done for me growing up - driving around Long Island to violin, piano, ballet and tap lessons. You name the sport and I played it, because she supported me in everything I wanted to do. Now she is doing the same things for my two little boys and I am so grateful. cancer and my motorcycle racing. It was a lot of fun and I met some great women. Whenever I get the opportunity, I will talk to people about raising awareness. Prevention is what helped me. In actuality, I skipped a year in getting my mammogram. I’m so lucky this was found. It could have been a lot worse. Statistics say that 80% of breast cancer can be cured if found in time.” Recently, Lea had a fundraiser at FJ Motorsports in Tampa. “This was an event to raise money for the breast cancer research foundation and Martinez Racing. FJ Motorsports is one of my sponsors. The cost of getting to these races is very high. FJ Motorsports is helping me along this route so that I will be able to attend the Maryland race and provide money for the breast cancer research foundation.” Lea has been fortunate to win various trophies over the years. What’s exciting is that every year, more and more women are coming into the staging area for racing! Lea added, “I was in a money round and the race got rained out at Orlando Speed World. I was the number 1 qualifier at another event. I do what I can to get my name out there! I went to North Carolina. I was on my 2nd qualifying pass and blew my motor. There was a huge hole in my motor block. It was devastating. The following month, I went

to another racing event because they were doing a memorial for a friend who passed away. While I was there, I spoke with a good friend of mine, Larry ‘Spider Man’ McBride. He told me ‘I’m going to help you. I’ve known about you, your racing, your bike problems, and you’re a breast cancer survivor. I’m going to call all of my sponsors and see if we can get your bike put back together.’ Not only did he get all the parts I needed to put my bike back together, it’s now a bigger motor than it was before!” In closing, Lea shared with me the following. “A lot of good has come out of the bad. For me, all the angels and race family have brought me back on track with my racing and bringing awareness to breast cancer. More and more men are coming up with breast cancer now. It’s not just a women’s cancer anymore. I have to stress that getting a yearly mammogram is crucial! It will save your life.” Thank you, Lea, for an inspiring and motivating story! As much as I ride, I want to be comfortable. There were times in my riding life that I would have the “stock seat from Hell.” You know the seats I’m talking about; the stock seat that comes with your bike. These horrible seats would make your butt goes numb, and at times, pain would radiate down your leg. You would be one miserable, unhappy person on your trip. There are lots of seat manufacturers out there that will take your money and promise you the sun and the moon if you buy one of their seats. Thankfully, I have met a person that knows what is involved in getting YOU the comfortable seat you deserve; not one made from the proverbial cookie cutter manufacturing companies. Carol Hunt, also known as CJ, is a soft-spoken woman with the knowledge to rebuild your seat specifically for your butt and no one else‘s. She is passionate about her craft and is a fellow motorcyclist too. “I’ve ridden for years with my husband as a passenger on his motorcycle. After a day of riding behind him and banging my head against his head and constantly looking over his shoulder, I decided it was time for me to get my own bike. I know how to drive a car, I know how to shift gears, I know how to ride a bicycle, and I’ve even ridden horses in competition, so I knew I could certainly ride a motorcycle! This was on a Saturday. Two days later on a Monday, I called up and made a reservation to take the motorcycle riders course. That started it. That was my birthday present to me on my 59th birthday.” CJ took her passion with riding her motorcycle and went with a group of fellow motorcyclists as they ventured north to Niagara Falls. “I rode to Niagara Falls and was gone for two weeks. It was raining most of the trip. There were 13 of us and when we got up to Pennsylvania, three groups went three separate ways! I was in a group where we got caught in

another HUGE rain storm. It was two-lane road in the mountains where the road was cut in such a way that the shoulder just fell away to a cliff. There was no place to pull over. I was in the middle of the group. By the time we got to a campground, we found a cabin and stayed there for three days until the weather cleared. Once we got back on the road, my bike wouldn’t start. Due to the immense amount of rain, the water ruined my electrical system. We had to get a wrecker to come and pick up my bike. Thankfully, the dealer had the same bike I had and he just took the wiring harness off that bike and put it into mine! It was a beautiful ride that you can’t appreciate when you’re in a car! Just feeling the air and becoming one with Nature was something that I will always remember.” This trip to Niagara Falls was the maiden voyage of Carol and her new gel seat. “This was one of the first rides I made after I installed the gel in my seat. I rode that seat for over 45,000 miles before I sold the bike. When I decided to sell it I took the seat apart to make sure it was still ok and it looked just like the day I put it in. I had ridden in rain, heat, cold, and long distances and still it was the best ride out there. I would not ride a bike without installing one of our gels inside the seat.” CJ was born in North Alabama and moved to Michigan. Her dad moved the family to Florida in 1961. “I’ve lived most of my life in Florida.” I was interested to hear more about this intriguing seat business. When I asked CJ to share more with me about her successful seat business, she laughed and said, “That happened as an accident. Not long after I started riding, a friend of mine, Mike, had one of those thrownon gel inserts on top of his stock seat. He was comfortable riding but once he stopped, the gel insert moved around. I looked at this and knew that I could probably do something to help him, since I had been in the upholstery business for many years. We spent all day working on that seat! Pulling the foam out of the seat was hilarious. We had foam in our ears, in our hair, and in our eyes. We finally figured out a way to put the gel into the foam. We went on a really long ride the next day and Mike said how his butt didn’t hurt. He was bragging about his new seat to everyone. Our friends asked how they could get a seat like his and he just pointed to me and told them that I could do that for them. That’s how it started.” CJ’s process is a secret and one that she doesn’t share with anyone, other than there is a special gel that is being made just for her and her business. If a customer asks to have the seat changed to make them higher or lower, CJ can make that happen as well. People started bring their seats to CJ to fix. CJ and her husband, Howard, were doing this at their home then ventured out, attending biker events as vendors. “I really enjoy building seats. I love to visualize the new seat, sculpt it, and watch it come alive with the motorcycle.” She can build a new seat or customize the seat you have on your current ride. Pricing depends on the gels and the build-up. The seats are built just for the person riding the bike. It’s a custom business. She gave me a great example of this: “It’s like going to a dressmaker. The dressmaker makes the dress to fit you and only you. Fabrics, trim, and glitter, etc. She may also use some distinguishing add-on specific to your personality. That’s how I do my motorcycle seats. The seat is built for the person riding the motorcycle and no one else. I recently delivered a seat out to a Marine that I did a custom seat for. The seat should be comfortable and a compliment to the bike’s personality as well. He was very happy with the finished product.” CJ does her work at home. She did have a shop but retired. “Last year we bought a new trailer and started again. There’s been so much demand for these seats that we started again. It’s something that we really love to do together and make people happy.” CJ’s enthusiasm and dedication to her skill and trade are remarkable. Women’s World “Living Backwards to Really Start Living”

Have you ever avoided something you really wanted to do because of fear of what others would say or think of you? Have you held back because you doubt your capabilities? Ever felt inferior? Many will relate to this one; do you remember being a teenager and not wanting to wear something because you did not like some parts of your body? Do you now wish you looked like you did as a teenager? Yup! I know many, myself included, who can relate to that one! Have you wanted to ride a motorcycle but not dare fearing your skills or what others would say? Yup! I can relate to that one too; however, I did it anyway. When you find yourself facing possible death, as I have with lung cancer diagnosis, you realize that there is a whole world out there for you to live, much greater than you have allowed. You realize how important it is to take action now because life is not forever. You realize how wasteful and useless some self-imposed thoughts have held you back. I too fell into some of these to some extent. Don’t wait until a possible end to begin to really live. Instead imagine the end with all the things you woulda, coulda, shoulda done and really start living while you still can. For example are you: 1. Holding back from what you really desire 2. Staying in relationships that are toxic or simply dead 3. Staying in a job/career that you dislike 4. Living daily as a robot simply existing without passion and excitement 5. Feeling lonely, helpless and hopeless for change 6. Prisoner of your own comfort zone 7. Pretending and smiling as if life was perfect to hide the sad truth 8. Settling for mediocrity 9. Conforming to what your family and friends expect of you 10. Living someone else’s life 11. Putting yourself last as if you were not a priority 12. Wasting precious time getting upset over things that really do not matter 13. Being bitter, angry, or seeking revenge when you are the only one who is getting hurt by not letting go When you are faced with possible death your entire life is played before you. You realized what really matters and what just sucks life out of you. People constantly hear that life is too short, live full, etc. … However, that takes on a completely different meaning when facing death. Stop to really hear, feel, and see those words so you BTR 64 | BORNTORIDE.COM

can digest it into your soul. Don’t allow something so drastic to happen before you wake up and start to live full throttle with all your passion. LOVE TO LIVE Realize that you only need your own self-approval. Do what you want with your life because you only have ONE life. I have surprised many people in my life and riding motorcycles was definitely one of them. Not as extreme but surely shocking. I had to ignore and fight against all the naysayers, friends and family alike, who insisted it was a bad image and bad example because I am an attorney. I was told it was dangerous and simply not something for a professional to do. It showed me how much ignorance there is about bikers. Bikers are from all walks of life; doctors, lawyers, accountants, regular family man and women. Bikers are some of the nicest most caring people I have ever met. I will admit some have been the scariest looking, but many of the scariest have been the sweetest people on earth. Never judge a book by its cover is so true. Simply make sure not to hurt anyone, help others along the way and go live. Don’t stay stuck in places and with people that hold you back. Decide what you want and set out a plan to live it. For example if your career/job is one you are fed up with don’t quit if you have bills to pay. However, set out a plan to end it at some point where you have an alternative you do love.

If you have an inspiring story for Womens World, we want to know.

DOES IT REALLY MATTER Furthermore, do not waste your time and energy on things that don’t matter. Before you get worked up over someone or something stop and consider what it accomplishes and does it really matter. How many times have you gotten upset because you are stuck in traffic? Instead of getting a ll worked up think of it this way; how lucky you are that you are able to drive because many are so ill they cannot get out of bed or in a wheelchair? When someone cuts you off driving don’t get all worked up. Instead of getting angry be thankful you did not get into an accident. If you get all worked up and upset over someone cutting you off do you think it bothers them? NO it’s only hurting you and accomplishes nothing good. Let it go! Let it go! It is not worth your time and stress. FREEDOM Let go of the materialistic world. Material things are nice but don’t be attached to them. Seek freedom from objects to enjoy life. Simplify your life. Less is really more! Be real regardless of who will or will not like you. Leave superficiality out of your life. UNDERSTANDING/COMPASSION Take time to understand others and be compassionate. Put yourself in other’s situation and seek ways to lend a helping hand. Imagine if it were you how you would feel, what you would want. There is a lot

of pain and suffering out there where you can be someone’s angel from heaven in times of need. A great example is when someone is in the hospital. I use to do my best not to go as I dislike hospitals. Now I see that is an awful excuse. There is nothing that filled my soul with joy as when I stayed at the hospital and my room filled up with amazing friends and family. I saw other patients that had no one visit them and it was heart breaking. LIVING LIFE Start living backwards by imagining being on your death bed and how you would have wanted to live. Is what you are doing or not doing keeping you from really living? Love hard and passionately with your soul and in all you do! Don’t allow fear, doubt or anyone hold you back. You have all you need within you. Don’t doubt yourself. Be responsible, you were born to ride this journey of life so do it and don’t look back! DARE YOURSELF TO LIVE YOUR LIFE! Hayley B. Craven Moorehead Angry April, MAY be better…

“Anger – he smiles towering in, shiny metallic purple armor.” According to the late Jimi Hendrix, and although the song was titled “Bold as love” there has been very little love shared around here lately. We all have our ups and downs but it’s been a sort of a weird month. April may be known for “April fools day” but debauchery and deviance seem to be afoot in the trailer park. Fools live forever evidently … I am above mentioning names! Hang on for a hell-ride of weirdness that will (sort of) be explained in this, another article written for you, my dedicated readers. Terror in the Tech-mode In an effort to support my beer and cigarette habit, I went back to work at Cody’s American Motorcycle doing my usual thing—working on motorcycles. I’m not necessarily the fastest or the greatest, but I did realize that I am better than most. Due care, concern, and maintenance must go into your ride and if you are not personally capable of performing the required repairs and service, you must bring it to a reliable and competent shop. Seriously folks, I have a huge electronics background and a seriously vast knowledge of the inner workings of all motorcycles (especially Harleys) to extents that I would not attempt to explain. Today’s case was that of someone making a serious mistake by engaging an entity other than a qualified technician to perform a vital repair. A simple customer complaint that included turning the handlebars to the left causing half the electrical system to shut down turned into a 5-hour search for a bad repair in the main wiring harness. Please don’t risk your life using a crimp-on butt-connector on a main power feed that can and will shut down everything on your bike including YOU! The correct way to fix an important harness (especially the main) is to find the break, cut, twist, solder and heat shrink that thing so it doesn’t come loose again. A nice simple crimp-on connector may work great for fixing the taillight on your Ford Pinto but it ain’t good for your bike! And, I know mini apes on a bagger look cool and a lot of people love it, but if you’re gonna go that route—make sure your technician follows the above advice! TechMode column OFF!

Social Media Meltdown I know that a lot of y’all follow all my junk on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and a host of other ‘social media’ sites that are out there. There is a plethora of ways to waste your personal time banging away at your computer or (phone nowadays) gawking at, viewing or otherwise perusing someone else’s crap that particular person posts to—whatever social media site. If one had a mere modicum of sense, perhaps they would turn their eyes and minds away from the addictive and damaging effects o f this so called ‘social’ stuff and go back to the simple way of life. I admit that I am certainly guilty of wasting too much time on these platforms but all of us are pretty much the same. The only difference is that I do NOT attempt to do any of this social media crap on my cell phone. It’s ridiculous. I would be lucky if I could get a call or a text message out much less try to do any of this on a hand-held device. I’m not downing any of you that do, but I can’t afford a really cool phone that does a lot of fancy crap. I’m really pretty much ‘old school’ and perhaps I’m stuck with a secondary carrier, but I would really rather sit at the computer and use a real keyboard. My fingers and thumbs are too fat to do anything right on the phone that I currently have! I will say that one of the good things about social media (there aren’t too many) is that through the efforts of people involved in this wasteland, Spyke and Mike are now reunited as discussed in last months article. Since we all do it, let’s make it positive! Facebook Fiasco I have been involved with this particular ‘social’ site for around 10 years. Facebook at least allows more than 140 characters in a post unlike some of the other platforms. I have always had somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000 friends on that site—which is of course is the maximum limit. Some of those people love me, some of them hate me and recently a lot of rat-ass bastards have been taking hits at some of my posts and attempting to get me shut down. Well, they finally succeeded in their ridiculous hatred and got my account cancelled. This was somewhat interesting to me because now that I am not able to see what my friends are up to or to post promotional information regarding my live music performances, bike nights, radio shows and etcetera, I have extra time to clean my guns and work on motorcycles and electronic stuff. But the anger is still there. Why is it that in this technologically advanced world can’t people just be real men and women and step up from behind the keyboard? Why is it that everyone is a giant when they are hiding behind the computer or their fancy smart-phone? Be real people! I know as bikers we are absolutely real and aren’t afraid to enjoy a face to face conversation or confrontation instead of a Face-book fake-out! Anyhow, hate isn’t going to make a positive change in the world whether it’s on the road, at the local tavern or in cyberspace. Everyone needs to simply be righteous and enjoy each day we live, as the time here on earth and in this life is short! I will continue to fight the good fight with the Bots at FB but should I succeed then you may once again enjoy my un-savory comments, images and humor. If not, well, it wasn’t like I didn’t go out fighting! This alas, is my life and I will continue to live it as I always have. Anger mode OFF!

Cool, Calm and Collected

when life is tough

For 40 years, I’ve assisted the best athletes in the world and corporate executives meet adversity head-on in some of the toughest arenas on the planet. From The Masters, World Series, Super Bowl, NBA Finals, Wimbledon and boardrooms from the Fortune 500, I’ve provided concrete tools to be cool, calm and collected, especially during “moments of truth” when the next move you make can decide your fate. Here are three proven tools and techniques that you can deploy in any aspect of your life to bring an instant feeling of calm when you need it most. ™ The Palm Tree The sun sinks down across the horizon,

painting the sky with beautiful pinks and purples. The waves playfully reach their way up the sandy beach with a calm, bubbly rhythm. The graceful palm trees sway with the evening breeze. It’s just another sunset in Maui. If you’ve ever been to a sunset on a beach, I’ve brought you right back to it. It’s the ultimate in relaxation. Why? Do you ever associate stress with a palm tree? Of course not. When the hurricane comes however, the first line of defense is the amazing palm tree. Just like a “real life” hurricane such as a road rage experience, an angry significant other, or a crisis at work, the palm tree in you needs to absorb the devastating winds of adversity. As soon as a circumstance, condition or event displeases you or disturbs you, think of the palm tree. Have a palm tree thought before the life hurricane reaches full force. The palm tree reacts to a hurricane or violent storm by allowing the negativity to pass through it by bending with the wind. It absorbs the wrath of the devastating force. After the storm dissipates and leaves, the palm stands up straight to see another day of sunshine. It symbolizes all that’s good about the sun, beach, ocean, recreation and pleasure. As stress, anger, negativity, or disappointment

BTR 70 | BORNTORIDE.COM

builds, most people brace themselves like an oak tree to battle the immediate adversity. Of course, there are no oak trees on the beach. An oak tree would easily have its branches broken and its trunk uprooted. This is why your first thought in times of stress is the palm tree. With this positive imagery, you will lower your breathing by taking several deep breaths and not negatively react or overreact to what’s in front of you. Be the palm tree.

™ Breathe Like a Baby Do you ever get nervous or anxious before a

big event, presentation or meeting? Do you ever get uptight just before a potential confrontation? If the answer is yes, you may need to breathe like a baby. Do babies get anxious about the future? Never! Babies close their eyes and breathe with their stomach. It’s not long before they’re fast asleep, whether they’re in a crowded restaurant or at a noisy family event. Here’s how to get calm. • Unhinge your jaw • Place either hand over your belly button • With each inhale, allow your stomach to move your hand After several deep breaths, you’ll feel your shoulders relax and a feeling of calmness will prevail. Before any potential stress situation, breathe like a baby.

Duck on the Pond When are you least comfortable? It’s usually

when you have a zillion things to do with the least amount of time. With deadlines pending and everyone wanting your time and energy, what should you do? Act like a duck, gracefully gliding its way across a pond. Yesterday I watched a duck on the pond behind my home. It appeared effortless as it moved through the water. It reached its destination

with ease. And when it felt like it, it took wing and flew away. Isn’t it fascinating watching a duck on a pond? In reality, a duck’s webbed feet are paddling at full speed. What if you could look and feel as calm, cool and collected as the duck while you paddle full speed, accomplishing all your tasks and goals within their deadlines? Here are 10 ways to be the duck on the pond: 1. Prepare exactly where you want to go. 2. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly tasks to be accomplished in order to reach your destination. 3. Envision each task in its completed state. 4. Focus only on what you want, as opposed to what you don’t want. 5. Maintain slow deep breathing under all circumstances, conditions and situations. Stay comfortable! 6. When obstacles arrive, keep your mind on where you want to go. 7. Prepare to adjust with a calm demeanor in case your pathway is blocked. Decisively change course, change speed, change strategy, temporarily abort the mission or stay the course. 8. Think solutions. This will be easier when you replace the word “problem” with the word “challenge.” 9. When reality and expectations don’t mesh, stay optimistic! 10. Enjoy the swim! Enjoy the pond! Now you’re armed with three proven, concrete tools and techniques for relaxation. Remember, your greatest gift is free will to think any thought and consequently act any way at any time under any circumstance, condition or situation. When life presents tough challenges, meet them head-on by being calm, cool and collected.

Biker Movie Review the money, it’s because he’s just plain mean. The zombies are released when a curious little boy opens a door in the apparently abandoned mine, thus releasing the un-dead, and of course this act is his un-doing. In the mean time, the girls are in town, and decide to split up and go look for some meat. One of them is run over by the mortician, and is turned into a zombie, while the others find their way into various sexual situations with the local guys. This is where we first meet Billy Bob who plays the ex of one of the chopper chicks. They meet in a church where the dwarf is attempting to shoot her, and retreat to his trailer for some fun. Another mistake for the midget, and more punishment later, the zombies are still marching on, and they are getting hungry! On the way to town the zombies encounter a group of blind orphans, who are stranded just on the outskirts after their bus breaks down. Luckily for the kids their bus-driver always keeps an Uzi on the bus (for sentimental reasons) and while the driver seeks help the kids (shooting blindly) manage to hold off the zombies until the chopper chicks arrive to rescue them in a hearse. Even though the girls are doing some good deeds, the locals don’t seem to like them too much and repeatedly attempt to run them out of town. That is until the town is overrun by blood thirsty zombies! But wait – the town folk refuse to help the girls fight the zombies because “they are all family.’’ Hordes of zombies begin eating their relatives as the girls fight them off. The dwarf decides to turn against the mortician, and tells the girls that the only way to kill the zombies is to “cut their heads off.” The chopper chicks use baseball bats, chainsaws, and other devices to do away with many of them, but just when they think they have won, dozens more arrive. The girls devise a plan to lure all the remaining zombies into the church using raw meat as bait. They load the meat truck with dynamite, and crash it into the church. The timer on the dynamite goes off and the church goes up in Out of all the ‘biker exploitation’ movies I have reviewed, this one flames burning up most of the remaining zombies. may be the funniest! The 1991 film features Billy Bob Thornton, MTV In the final scenes the Cycle Sluts are rewarded with a sack full VeeJay Martha Quinn, and a few other B movie celebs. This movie of cash and induct the dwarf and several of the blind orphans as has it all – hot chicks, lesbians, motorcycles, midgets and a troop honorary members of their gang. They then ride out of town with of blind orphans - who wouldn’t love it? First off I must tell you some of the men folk (their new ‘bitches’) on the back of their bikes the Chopper Chicks don’t actually ride “Choppers” but they do ride Sportsters, all equipped with engine guards and various custom paint and toss wads of money into the wind as they roll down the road to a jobs. The girls in the film are members of an all female motorcycle new destination and adventure. This review could not possibly expose you to all the hilarious gang called the “Cycle Sluts” which in itself is funny. They do have the usual trappings of women traveling in groups, such as being on action that this film provides. It is sometimes so ridiculous that you would find yourself rolled up in a knot from uncontrollable laughter. the rag, and searching for meat. It takes shots at old films, TV and life in general, but it never leaves Anyway, the film begins when the Cycle Sluts cruise into the you bored. I admit that I have a sick sense of humor, but for some small town of Zariah looking for a good time. In Zariah, an evil scientist turned mortician has been killing local townspeople with the unknown reason, I actually liked this film! (I usually don’t) Try this one help of dwarf that he continually abuses. After turning the folks into out. It’s available on DVD from Troma Films, www.troma.com or at your local ‘strange DVD dealership.’ I have to give this one 4 out of 4 zombies, he uses them as labor at an abandoned mine. The mine stars just because it’s super-funny. … Till next month. ... is too radioactive after underground nuclear testing to be mined by living people. He later admits the real reason he’s doing it isn’t for The Phantom

Spyke & Mike BEST NAIL JOB ... EVER

Hey there my BTR friends, after a few good evenings of wind time Mike has finally blown the really bad memories from Spike week out of my head. Now I can concentrate on telling you, my friends, all the crazy things my captives did to and for me. Yes, I was passed to various people over the week. To set the story straight the sanitation deprived, liquor breathing, nature loving freak who took me from the scoot was not the one who got me back to my daddy. He was the first of three or four that I can remember. Mike blurts out, “OK Spyke, what did I tell you about being politically correct? With him, just don’t do it. He was a local derelict scumbag OK?” I reply OK, I’ll go along with that, but the next dude with the cage wasn’t much better. He never did give me anything more than bread and water. And that cage really sucked. It reeked of women’s perfume, deodorant, and had lacy things strewn across the bottom. “Oh brother Spyke” Mike babbles, “he was either a human trafficker or he liked caged dancers. So from your description of clothing and smell, I would go with the latter.” I also remember the house was very small. It wasn’t much bigger than Craven’s double wide littered with lots more beer cans, liquor bottles, and fast food bags. During the day there were two little curtain-climbers running around. He and the rugrats would poke at me with sticks. I would squawk loudly and they would scream louder. Eventually, a woman dressed in a schoolgirl outfit came in, told him to stop, and took the youngins away. She would occasionally come back into the room where the dude was watching T.V. and bring beer or food. Right before she would

leave, he would spank her with a stick or leather strap. I thought it was odd when she kept yelling “more, more” before getting up and leaving the room. Once it got really weird. He reached into my cage, picked up one of my feathers that had fallen out from my continuous efforts to get free, and started stroking her with it. … She then screamed “harder, harder.” I’ve never heard you say that when your ex-exgirlfriend use to hit you. I recall you would always holler “stop, stop” then run out of the room. Mike bellows, “Good god Spyke, you’re describing the environment of a sex slave. Later I’ll fill you in on the difference between my relationship and his.” Well, I don’t know what she was but she must have liked me. Every time he left the room, she would come over and say, “You look like a nice birdie, here’s a treat for you!” She would put a piece of apple or banana in between the bars and I would devour it. I heard him say he was leaving for a while. After he drove off, she came over to the cage and stroked my talons. She whispered, “I want to help you. I’m going to take you with me when I go get my manicure. It looks like you could use one also.” I thought any way out of here is a good thing, so when she opened the cage, I went right onto her hand gently. She could tell I did not want to bite her. She smiled and we got along well. As we were riding in the car she says, “I’ve got gel nails but you’ve got jail nails, this is going to be fun! I don’t want to see you back in that cage, afterwards I’m taking you with me to work.” We get to the salon and go inside. She announces, “Deborah darling, I remember hearing you did animal nails also. Well, here’s customer for you!” Deborah says, “I have done animals, not birds. I’m a nail technician not a magician.” Then my friend states, “Come on! She’s really a nice bird, why not? I want her looking all nice for me at work tonight.” Deborah replies, “OK, I’ll give it a shot. I just happen to have my Dremel in the car.” Let me tell you, she gave me one of the best filings I ever had. When Mike does it, I usually end up bleeding. She was so gentle, it barely hurt and I never bled! While waiting for my new friends’ nails to dry, she leaned over to me and whispered, “A true lady is only helpless while her nail polish is wet. Even then, she could pull a trigger if she needed to! And if I had it my way, that S.O.B. of a roommate would be dead after the way he’s treated you.” I was happier now. I was with someone who cares. I thought, maybe she’ll help me get home. We leave the salon and she takes me to her work, the Pink Pony. I’ll be damned! She was a stripper. Perhaps one of her girlfriends will recognize me from my previous escapades there. Well, no such luck. All night long I was kept in a closet. With the dull roar of pole dance music in the background sounding like jungle noise, I quickly fell asleep. I do remember dreaming of better days: when Mike would plop me on the scoot, getting my wings in the wind, his knees in the breeze, and the Fat Bird’s wheels rolling down the road. SPYKE

“Thank You to the Biker Community and everyone who helped get Spyke back to Mike.” Ron Galletti

Happy Mother’s Day!

Christian Motorcyclists Association Recently I had the opportunity to spend several days in Daytona Beach riding around, taking in the sights, and eating some good local food. Yeah, the traffic was unbelievable, but the weather was great and the temperatures were wonderfully cool. As so often happens in Daytona, I wasn’t careful enough and got a real redneck sunburn! On the fourth morning we packed up and headed home, the quiet twolane roads home were a joy after all of the crowds. When we got home we hurt in some new areas, and after unpacking the bike we dropped into the Lazy Boys and collapsed! Man, what a great trip, but now it was time to recuperate, our energy was gone! After a short while of chilling out it occurred to us that the bike was covered not only in road grime, but worse than that, there was a film of dried on salt spray all over the bike. Now there are three things I’ve learned about Harleys: keep the bike full of clean oil and premium gas, carry an emergency tool box kit for things that rattle loose, and if you leave salt spray on your bike, it’s going to start rusting almost immediately. BTR 80 | BORNTORIDE.COM

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been blessed with a bike that I really like the looks of, and rust is not a color that fits my color scheme for the bike. So, you know what I did, I scrubbed the bike down until it shined! Not only did it look better all cleaned up, I found that one of my slip ons was slipping off, and fixed that issue. The bike wasn’t going to sit in the garage and clean itself up; it needed the hands of one that cared how it looks and functions. Like our bikes, our lives need a good scrubbing as we get dirty riding because of our attitudes or actions through life. On a bike, we may get drenched in sweat and salt on a hot ride, or our hands may get greasy from maintaining our ride. Our spiritual life is much the same; at times we need someone to lift us up and clean us off. Try as we might, even though we can clean our physical bodies, we are unable to clean our hearts and minds but Jesus can and will. The Bible tells us, in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Jesus lived a perfect life in order that He could pay the price of your sin and mine and make our hearts and souls clean before God. He’s always there to lift us up and wipe us clean, all we have to do is trust in Him as our Savior. Just like my bike after a good scrubbing, your life can sparkle with the love of Jesus in your heart!
